This is a heavy chapter and a huge deviance from what happened in the show. I'd like to remind everyone that this whole story is AU and that for anyone who suffered the loss of a pregnancy or a child, this chapter might trigger you.

Huge Drama ahead! You've been warned!

This is the AU chapter for a different shade of pink and King For A Day. I guess that's it for warnings. Read on and I'll see you at the bottom.

The Garden

Kimberly stood over the little concrete angel. It had aged just a little in the years since it had been placed over the spot where the little box was buried; it's stony angelic face was stained from all the years of rain that had graced her garden like tears from above. This was sacred ground for her, there had been no remains to bury, but the little box with its symbolic contents were enough…

"Hey Beautiful, they're waiting for us."

Kim nodded, but didn't turn around. Feeling her sadness through their bond, he walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. In the quiet, they thought back to that bittersweet moment when they'd buried this symbol of loss.

"We really have the best friends ever."

Kim nodded and then took a deep cleansing breath. "Okay, I'm ready."

They stood there for another moment before Tommy led Kimberly out of the garden and towards the crackling fire pit. Everyone was there; even Trent. Connor and Kira were away on their impromptu road trip and the younger kids were all in bed for the night. Autumn and Kyle were also there and looking pretty cozy in the light of the flickering flames.

He sat down in the big chaise lounge and then helped Kimberly sit down in front of him.

"So, I guess we're all ready for this next part of this story?" he asked asked as Kim watched them all.

When everyone nodded, Kim blew out a breath.

"By this time in our story, I was the longest serving ranger on the team and had given three whole years of my life fighting evil…and I was tired. I didn't want to admit it at the time, but losing the baby, though we hadn't known about her existence, was a blow to my heart and mind. As much as I loved being a ranger, I began to realize that my time in the spandex was ending."

~Flashback~

Kimberly stood at the tiny sink in the mobile home, washing the few dishes they had to their names. In their modest room, Tommy slumbered in their bed. It had been a long day of school followed by a difficult battle against King Mondo.

Kimberly put the last dish in the draining board and dried her hands on the kitchen towel. If she were honest with herself, she was feeling tired. The life of a ranger was never easy, but all these years spent protecting Earth from the forces of evil were weighing her down, not to mention the horrors she faced at the hands of those stupid bitches that had robbed her of something so precious…

Kim shoved those thoughts away and refocused her thoughts.

She was just done…

Sure, fighting alongside her mate and piloting the zords were great, but between that, going to school, and trying to move on with their lives, she felt as if she were becoming a zombie.

The truth was, that she just simply wanted be Kimberly Hart; the bride-to-be.

Pulling out a cold bottle of water from the mini fridge, she sat down at the little table and and took a long sip. With every passing moment, she was warming up to the idea of hanging up her morpher and spending every day working in the garden that held so much potential. The boys had so kindly broken up the dry ground and watered it for her and had even now the ground stood ready for her green thumb.

She was so ready to get started on it!

She could hear Tommy moving around in his sleep; She knew the instant he woke up.

"Kim, where are you?"

"In here, Handsome."

She heard the slide of fabric as he pulled some shorts on and then heard his footsteps as he walked toward the little dining area. He sat on the other side of the table and looked into her eyes.

"What are you doing up? Tomorrow's a school day."

Kimberly gave him a tired smile. "I'm thinking about hanging up my morpher."

Tommy looked at her grimly. "I had a feeling this might happen." At her startled look, he pointed to his chest. "I can feel your fatigue."

Kimberly sighed. "I don't know if I'll ever get used to that."

"You got to admit that it's helpful. I know the moment when you're upset with me. Most men have to do all the guesswork to figure that out."

Kimberly smirked. "And the amazin,g mind-blowing sex doesn't hurt either?" The first time they had sex after their battle against Ivan Ooze, they'd realized that the sensations coming from their coupling was amplified. They could not only feel their own pleasure, but they could feel each other's too. It made everything just…more extreme.

Tommy shrugged giving her a shameless grin. "Hey, I'm a guy. Being able to make you feel that good is a big bonus."

Kimberly shook her head with a grin on her face. "You are so shameless."

Tommy shrugged again. "Can't help it. I have no control when it comes to you."

~End Flashback~

"The biggest problem we had once we talked things out, was that I couldn't leave the team without a pink ranger. All I could do at that point was hang on and take each battle as it came and wait for the next transition."

I was glad when Mondo bit it, but knew better than to relax; it was almost predictable when a last minute bad guy showed up. I just didn't expect for things to blow up like they did."

"That's an understatement." Rocky said with a grimace. "It was the first time since the soul fusion thing that anyone had been separated from their mates. Before then, I thought I understood how the soul fusion thing worked, but when Kim snapped…" he trailed off shaking his head. "That was an eye opener!"

Adam nodded with a grimace and looked at his daughter. "This was one of the reasons I don't do anything to stop what is happening between you and Kyle. I've witnessed the result first hand with Kim and Tommy and have no desire to repeat the experience."

Kim leaned into Tommy's arms. "That was a one-time thing; and it was my last battle as a ranger."

"What happened?" Trent asked.

Kim sighed "It all came to a head when Prince Gasket and his wife Princess Archerina came into power after King Mondo was destroyed. He made the really stupid mistake of abducting my mate and taking him away from me."

~Flashback~

His vision was blurry as he came to. Jason slowly sat up and squinted his eyes, trying to figure out what the pink blur was that was standing in front of him.

He blinked a few more times and saw the bad ass version of their pink ranger. She now wore an upgraded version of the ninjetti costume. While the basic pink layer was still there, it was now accompanied by hardened armor that seemed to be sculpted to perfectly fit all her vital areas. The armor was a darker pink and on her head was a matching helm that resembled a bird's head.

Power radiated off her as she forced the mechanical prince to his knees. His ascot looked like it was stained with motor oil and he was shuddering in his distress.

Adam looked to his right and saw the monster they'd been fighting was now a smoking heap.

Kim lifted her head up as if addressing someone in the sky.

"Archerina, If you really value your husband's life. You'll bring my mate back in perfect condition! I have all day to stand here and…"

A moment later, the mechanical princess was standing before her with a crumpled Tommy in front of her,

"How dare you touch the prince! You'll pay for this!" She screeched.

"You should have thought twice before stealing my mate from me!"

Archerina seemed to calculate her chances and she seemed to feel confident. "I don't scare easy, you want your mate back, then you'll have to fight me!"

"Bring it, you glorified sex doll!"

Archerina seemed confused at the insult being thrown at her. A moment later, she called out. "Cogs! Attack!"

Within moments they were surrounded by the mechanical foot soldiers of the machine empire and the rangers sprang into action. Though they were a little out of it from the noxious gas they'd inhaled, they managed to destroy every cog on the field.

All the while this was going on, Kimberly faced Archerina who seemed overly confident that her cogs would win. Kimberly gave her a cold smile and eyes flashed a bright pink as she hurried to fire a volley of arrows at the mechanical princess. Within moments she'd vanquished the female counterpart and she lay smoldering in the sand.

"Nooo! What have you done to my queen?" Prince Gasket wailed.

Kimberly said nothing as she pulled back the string of her bow and let another arrow fly. This time, Gasket was smart enough to get out of the way. However, while all this was happening Tommy had recovered and he morphed quietly. Just as the evil prince swung his sword at Kimberly, he intervened and shoved Gasket down. As the prince lay on the ground, Tommy jabbed his sword downward, impaling the prince who erupted in a shower of sparks.

Once the sparks died down, Kimberly collapsed on the sand and Tommy knelt next to her. "Come on, Beautiful. Let's get you out of here."

~End Flashback~

That was the end of my time as a ranger and it was the end of the conflict with the Machine Empire. We have no idea what happened to the queen or sprocket. Best guess is that they ran away. We didn't hear anything more from those guys, and we didn't ask questions.

Instead, we used the break to finish up school and work on the manor. By the time Divatox showed up, we'd moved in and taken over the top floor; we'd coupled off and were officially living together. In our case, we took up residence on what's now the kid's floor.

Tommy kissed the back of Kimberly's head. "That summer was one of those important milestones for us as a couple. The wound that came from losing that pregnancy was festering and at the time, we both buried it for fear of becoming vulnerable. At the time it made sense; the safety of the world lay in our hands and we couldn't risk showing any weak spots incase the enemy found some way to exploit it."

"With the enemy vanquished, we enjoyed the quiet time; then the day came that we were forced to confront that wound and finally begin to heal it. As usual, it started with something innocent." Tommy blew out a breath and held his wife closer.

"That day, we'd decided to have an old-fashioned BBQ to break in the big grill that had been given to us by Rocky's parents. They were busy getting things ready and Rocky asked us to make a trip to the store to get the essentials."

Jason and I split up to make the shopping go faster and he went off to the meat department and I went to get the buns and condiments. It was when I was passing the candy section that I saw a father and a little girl that couldn't be anymore than two. She was babbling at him and he was carrying on his side of the conversation."

"It was adorable, but the sight was hard for me to witness and I moved on from there as fast as I could. I got the buns and everything, but I don't remember what happened after that. I think I went into autopilot and Jase had to stop me before I accidentally walked out with the cart full of unpaid groceries. I'm sure we had a conversation on the way home, but I must have blocked it out. I only knew that Kim and I needed to talk."

Kimberly took up the story when her husband fell silent. "I could feel the moment that they got onto the property that something was wrong. Tommy was shaking really badly, and he didn't even answer me when I saw him. he walked right passed me and up to our bedroom on the second floor."

~Flashback~

"Tommy, what's wrong?"

Kim locked the door and sat on the bed looking at her fiancé who looked absolutely heart-broken.

"What's wrong?"

"I can't do this Kim. I can't go on pretending to be okay. We lost the baby and I'm hurting, and I don't know what to do!"

Kim gave him a long look. "Where did this come from?"

He sat on the bed and told her everything and at before they knew it, the dam busted open and they finally began to grieve over everything. When they couldn't cry anymore, they fell asleep.

~End flashback~

"We all felt the loss to varying degrees." Billy said softly. "But we were clueless on how to help them heal." He gave his wife a loving glance and she ducked her head. It was no surprise that the girls found a way.

"It was a group effort." Aisha said softly. "We put the BBQ on hold and worked to prepare a special spot in the garden to create a memorial for baby Oliver. While the guys worked to really prepare the ground, the girls and I went on a small shopping trip. We found an unfinished wooden box at the hobby store and then went to the local flower shop and bought a bunch of pink carnations and white roses. The last stop we made was to a baby store; we bought a white infant dress and shoes." She trailed off and leaned into Rocky's arms.

"When we woke up and came down the stairs, the next morning, the others were waiting for us." Tommy took up the story as Kimberly teared up again.

~Flashback~

"What's all this?" Tommy asked as they walked into the kitchen.

Rocky had been up for a while and had prepared a breakfast feast with all the fixings. "It's breakfast. We have something special planned for the both of you and it starts with getting something to eat. So, dig in."

Kim gave them all a look as she sat down at the table. "What did you do?"

Aisha gave her a stubborn look. "We're not saying anything till you eat. Just know that what we did came from a place of love and a desire to help you heal."

Tommy gave them a look but said nothing as Tanya and Kat began to serve them food.

When they'd had their fill, they asked again what was going on.

"We're holding a funeral for baby Oliver. Billy answered them. "A person is a person no matter how small and that involves tiny babies that we didn't know about."

I know it won't make any of the pain lessen, but we thought it might help you along if you have something to bury. We've set up a special place in the garden and everything is prepared."

Kim's breath caught in her throat. "You did that for us?"

Billy nodded. "We love the both of you and when you hurt, we all hurt."

~End Flashback~

We held the funeral in the back corner of the garden. The box had been waterproofed early that morning and after we put the dress and shoes in the box, we sealed it shut and buried it. David showed up in full tribal gear and he spoke a prayer over the grave and we decorated it with the flowers. Later on, when we had more money, we bought a concrete marker for the grave site."

"Every year on Mother's Day, we come back here to decorate her grave with the pink flowers." Kim added. "This next year, we're going to tell Kayla the story and explain to her what Rainbow Babies are."

At Ethan's confused look, Kimberly added. "Rainbow Babies are babies born after the death of an infant from an earlier pregnancy. Kayla has heard me refer to her as one, but she's never asked me what they were."

"Is that why you waited so long to have Kayla?" Melanie asked softly. "It hurt too much?"

Kimberly smiled at her. "Part of that was it, but don't forget that not long after that, Aisha got pregnant and soon after so did Adam and Tanya. I guess I got so busy helping them plan for their babies that it helped me deal with the loss of my own.

"It's not that we gave up on having a child of our own." Kimberly stated. "We did try on several occasions to conceive, but it just never happened for us." That's why when we found out we were expecting Kayla, we were overjoyed. She was a miracle baby and when Maverick came along, we were truly surprised! We didn't think that it would happen twice, but it did."

"Looking back at that dark time, I have to admit to myself that though it hurt to go through that loss, it worked out for the best." Tommy added. "I was still in the spandex and we hadn't even talked to Kat about taking up the vacant spot on the team.

"Is that what's next in the story?" asked Ethan.

"Yeah, but that's a story for another night." Kim answered. I know it bothers Kat to think about that time."

Thanks Kim." Kat said as she leaned back in her husband's arms. "I'm going to need a couple of days to prepare for that."

"Take your time." Kimberly said giving her an understanding look. "We're not on a schedule here."

"Thanks, Kim."

They sat for a few more minutes before the group started to break apart and go their separate ways.

Soon, it was just Tommy and Kim sitting before the fire. "What do you need from me?"

Kim looked up at him. "Just you."

"Okay, I'll go get Mav. I'll meet you in the nest and then I'll make things better."

After another heated kiss, Tommy got up and headed for the house.

This chapter took a lot out of me, so I don't have much to say. I'll see you guys next chapter.
