DISCLAIMER: I OWN NOTHING
A week had gone by since Toby's birthday and Anne still hadn't been feeling well and it was worrying Mike more than before. So he said that if she wasn't better by the end of the week then he was taking her to the hospital to get examined. Normally Anne would dismiss her husband's concern, but not this time. She was always sick in the mornings, had weird mood swings, and cramps, and had to go to the bathroom a lot. The brunette whined as she curled up on the couch as another cramp rippled through her body.
She wished Mike was here, but something was going on at their travel agency and her husband had to go ahead to investigate what was going on.
With an irritated and tired groan, she got up to do some investigating on the internet. Anne typed in the symptoms on the computer and when she saw the results, she was greatly surprised. She quickly picked Toby up, waking him from his nap, strapped him in his car seat, and drove to the store. It was a trip that would have only taken her five minutes at the most, she would never just leave a one-year-old alone in the house. When she got home, she put Toby in his playpen with his toys and went upstairs with her purchase.
Anne looked at the item in the bag and she saw what it said on the box.
It was a pregnancy test. Her hands shook and she almost dropped the box but she took a few deep breaths to calm herself down. She rubbed her head feeling a headache coming. She didn't think she could ever have a baby and she hadn't intended to get pregnant again and suffer yet another miscarriage. She had assumed that the pills she was on would prevent pregnancy. Mike had disagreed. Though he wanted a bit of a honeymoon period before they tried having kids again, he had made it clear that he wanted to have more children.
When Anne had reluctantly brought up the difficulty they had had children, Mike said he believed that Toby had finally broken that horrible streak.
She still didn't have the heart to say anything after that and they never brought up having children again. That was two months ago and it seemed fate was mocking her with this scare. With a heavy sigh, she went into the bathroom to take the test. She was so nervous and she almost felt sick while she took the test. But deep down, the thought of having a baby, Mike's baby, was nice. After she had taken the test, she put it on the table and had to wait two minutes to see if she was having a baby.
She was so scared.
Anne had always wanted children. The fear of never having one was the main reason for her taking Toby. But the knowledge that she might be pregnant again and would more than likely result in a miscarriage, or worse, a stillbirth, was terrifying for her. She couldn't stand it. Just then the test beeped and Anne picked it up to look. The test said pregnant. Anne was one month pregnant with her and Mike's baby. She dropped the test on the floor and she had to sit down and took a deep breath.
She was pregnant again.
She couldn't believe it. She was scared and wondered how Mike was going to take it. She was worried about what would happen with Toby. Although she didn't think this baby would survive, there was still that chance. She was worried that if she did manage to give birth to her child her feelings about Toby would change. She loved that boy since she first brought him home, but deep down she knew he wasn't her son. Despite that, however, Anne knew she couldn't give him back.
But would having a baby of her change that?
Toby was only a year old and he would be close to two years old if this baby made it through the pregnancy. He wouldn't remember being kidnapped. If Anne did hand him back to his birth parents, then maybe she would just get a slap on the wrist. She wasn't an idiot. She knew that the truth about Toby's true family would come out one day. Yet the thought of going to prison scared her. The thought of being separated from her family, including Toby, was nightmare fuel to her.
Also, if this baby did survive, what would happen to it if she went to prison?
Anne was suddenly brought out of her thoughts when she felt an arm around her which scared her at first but calmed down a bit when she saw it was Mike. She had been so caught up in her mind that she hadn't noticed he was home.
"H-Hey sweetie," She stammered with a small smile. Mike just smiled back and kissed Anne's forehead.
"You seem worried about something; do you want to tell me what's wrong?" He asked as he sat next to his wife and waited for her to talk. Anne took a deep shakily breath. She then handed Mike the test. He was confused at first, wondering what she was trying to do.
"Y-You know what that is, right?" She asked in a worried voice and he nodded slowly. "M-My symptoms match that of a pregnant woman; s-so I bought this and I took it and... and... Mike, you're going to be a father." She finally said, looking Mike in the eyes. Mike's eyes widened at this news. He decided to look at the test and he saw it said pregnant. He was completely blown away. He couldn't believe it.
"I'm gonna be a daddy again?" He asked with a smile forming on his face. Anne looked relieved that he wasn't upset with the idea.
"Y-Yes... and I'm gonna be a mama; you're not upset are you?" She asked with a worried voice. Mike grabbed his wife and gave the brunette a huge hug. While hugging her, he kept kissing Anne's neck.
"Of course not! I'm so happy I'm gonna get to be a father again! You just made me the happiest man in the world! Thank you, Anne, I love you so much!" He smiled as he moved away from her so he could kiss her. Anne smiled into the kiss and wrapped her arms around him to hug him closer. Mike broke the kiss to look at Anne with a smile. He then rubbed his hand on Anne's belly, trying to feel their unborn child.
"So do you want to keep it, dear?" Mike finally asked. After contemplating for ten more minutes in total silence, Anne nodded her head with tears in her eyes.
"Yes, I want to keep it... my baby." She said as she hugged her tummy with a smile. Mike smiled and hugged her close to himself as well.
"That's amazing honey, and I bet Toby will be thrilled to have a brother or sister." He beamed brightly at the thought of Toby playing with his baby brother or sister, failing to notice the worried frown on Anne's face...
A month later, back in Malibu, Johnny and Sarah were at the bank to create a trust fund for their missing son. A week ago they received word that they had won the lawsuit. They had been awarded 1.5 million dollars after settling the lawsuit against the hospital. After talking about what to do with this money, they both decided to put the money in a trust fund for their son, if or when he returned to them. They agreed that this was Aidan's money.
If and when their boy returned to them, they hoped that this money could help him in his life.
Whether it was for college, a car, a new house, anything. They wouldn't care as long as their son was there to take the money. As they were waiting, Johnny was fighting the urge to tug at the collar of his suit. He always hated wearing ties and suits. Sarah hadn't bothered to get dressed up for their visit to the bank. She had had a shower and thrown on a jumpsuit, but that was it. She was slouched down in her chair, glaring daggers at the desk in front of them.
Johnny didn't have the heart to say anything.
He was just thankful that Sarah had shown up for the meeting. After a few more minutes of sitting there waiting, an accounter finally arrived and with a welcoming smile, they began the meeting.
"So, I understand that you wish to open a bank account, is that correct?" The accountant asked as they handed him their IDs.
"Yes, a trust fund for Aidan O'Brian," Johnny replied, fighting the urge to tug at the collar of his suit. He always hated wearing ties and suits.
"And who is he?" The accountant asked as he wrote everything they said on a piece of paper.
"He's our son; he's a year old now." The noirette replied, side-eyeing his girlfriend as he saw her face grizzle out of the corner of his eye.
"Well, that's perfect planning." He smiled, very pleased with these parents' planning. Many people want to make sure their family was taken care of. Since they can't outright give the money to their minor children, they establish a trust fund on their behalf. When done correctly, these trust funds could help children through rough patches, pay for medical bills, fund college expenses, put down payments on houses, establish businesses, and much more.
"So where is the little one now?" He asked innocently, but this was probably the worst thing he could have said.
"Do you see him anywhere?!" Sarah suddenly snapped, looking like she wanted to rip this man's head clean off his body.
"He's not with us right now, but he will be soon." Johnny quickly said, trying to defuse the situation, only to flinch when Sarah fixed her glare on him. Thankfully she didn't say anything else and stormed off before anybody could stop her. Johnny apologized for his girlfriend's behavior, but the man dismissed it and they continued the meeting without her.
"The minimum deposit is $100 per account, is that okay?" The accountant asked and Johnny nodded and handed him the check they had received. The accountant's eyes widened when he saw that it was a check for a million and a half dollars. He didn't want to sound too judgemental, but he hadn't expected these two teenage parents to have this much money. Especially when one was still in school and one was an ex-convict.
"What do you have to do to make that kind of money?" He asked out loud without thinking.
"It was a settlement," Johnny muttered with little to no emotion in his voice. The accountant wisely kept his thoughts to himself after that and finished setting up the trust fund, saying that it was up until Aidan was twenty-five years old. Johnny thought that would be more than enough time to find their boy; because if Aidan hadn't returned to them in the next twenty years, he felt they might have no hope left...
