Chapter 15

December 31st, 1998

Adam's POV

6:30 pm

I had gotten all cleaned up and upon our return to the house had checked on my gift for Gunnar. Tomorrow we were celebrating our 16-month anniversary just a little late. It was the 27th, Gunnar asked if we could delay until the 1st. Because with Christmas and the intense practices to get ready for the holiday tournament. He didn't even have time to go and look for a gift. When I asked him why he didn't get the gift while he was shopping for Christmas gifts. His excuse was that he didn't find anything that he knew that I would like. I had made my gift for him at Lakeshore a little birdhouse. I know cheesy and babyish but that was the only thing that I could build that I know that he would like. You had a choice between a cross, a birdhouse, a jewelry box, a wall shelf, key hook thing or a wall saying hanging. We were watching Lethal Weapon 4; we had gotten past the house fire scene when:

"Gunnar you have a phone call it's your mother," Genny said.

"Oh, Ok I will take it upstairs," Gunnar said.

I followed him upstairs. I was hoping that maybe he would introduce me to his mom, and let me say hi to her.

"Halló mamma hvernig hefur þú það? (Hello mother, how are you?)" Gunnar said.

"Gott og gleðilegt nýtt ár til þín líka (Good and Happy New Year to you as well)," Gunnar said.

"Var flugeldasýningin góð í ár? (Was the fireworks show good this year?)," Gunnar said.

"Mjög gott. Já, Ameríka er með svoleiðis en það er sýning vikulega. Hringt í Saturday Night Live,

(Really good. Yes, America have something like that but it's a weekly show. Called Saturday Night Live)," Gunnar said.

"Nei ekki enn. Við ætlum út að borða eftir að myndin er komin niður, (No not yet. We are going out to dinner after the movie is over downstairs.)," Gunnar said.

I stared at my boyfriend and held my hand out to signal to him that I wanted to say hello. He waved his hand away from him.

"Nei, ég hef ekki dagsett marga, það er ein manneskja sem ég er að sjá. Ég lofa að við höfum verið góð, (No, I haven't dated many people there is one person that I am seeing. I promise we have been good)," Gunnar said.

I held my hand back out to him, again. To signal to him that I wanted to say hello and he waved his hand away again. I begged him and he turned his back to me.

"Allt í lagi, ég mun gera það. Gefðu mínum elsku allir sem þú átt góð nýár. (Ok, I will. Give my love to everyone you have a good New Years,)" Gunnar said.

"Elska þig mamma. Bless, (Love you, mom. Goodbye,)" Gunnar said.

Once Gunnar hung up and turned around to me, I said. "I wanted to say hello. Do they know about me?"

"Of course my parents know about vou," Gunnar said.

"I am starting to think that they don't with the way you waved my hand away and turned your back," I said.

"Adam, sweetie. I love vou, they know about vou. Besides vou would not understand what my mother is saying, she only speaks Icelandic. Only my father, Astrid, Ingrid, and myself speak English. Although the girl's English, isn't particularly good, vet," Gunnar said.

"I thought you said that you had 3 siblings?" I asked.

"I do, Keldan is only 6 years old. Astrid is 12 and Ingrid is 9," Gunnar said.

"Gunnar if you and I are together forever and something happens to you. I am going to have to tell them," I said.

"I vnow that, Adam," Gunnar said with his arms crossed.

"Don't you think that I should be able to talk to them?" I asked.

"Yes. But my mother only speaks Icelandic. Do you want to learn?" Gunnar said.

"Would you teach me?" I asked.

"Yes, but can we wait until after vou move home?" Gunnar asked.

"Ok, fine," I said.

He kissed me on my temple and then said, "Það er kærastinn minn. Ég elska þig."

"What's that mean?" I asked.

"That's my boyfriend. I love vou." Gunnar said.

I smiled at my boyfriend.

After we had gotten back from dinner we had taken the celebration outside where Coach was trying to light a fire in the firepit so we could have a bonfire.

"Oh come on," Coach said to the fire.

"Problems, Coach?" I asked.

"Yeah, I am having a problem getting it started. Gunnar are you sure you want this?" Coach asked.

"Ves, its tradition in my country. Please?" Gunnar asked.

"I don't know it might be too windy, to be doing this. Maybe we should move it inside," Coach said.

"No that vould defeat the purpose, please?" Gunnar asked.

"Alright, but I am going to need your boys help," Coach said.

"Sure what can we do?" I asked.

"I need you to point your backs that way and block the wind from attacking the fire," Coach said.

"Sure," I said as Gunnar and I started to move.

While Coach was attempting to relight the fire I asked, "So what else would you do, during New Year's eve and day?"

"Vell, eat dinner early. Tell family and local stories, usually mother tells about each of our births and several funny stories from us growing up. Then ve would have a bonfire, then it vould be home to vatch a show that makes fun of the different events. It's put on by the state broadcaster, not like SNL," Gunnar said.

"Oh, what else?" I asked.

"Then ve have a gigantic firework show, much like there was in Sacramento on July 4th. Remember that?" Gunnar asked.

"Yeah we got to see it from my room, sort of. I only heard the booms from my bed," I said.

"Then we raise a glass and party into the night. Sleep in extremely late the next day. Then during the afternoon on New Year's Day, we go for a swim outside," Gunnar said.

"WHAT?" I asked.

"YA," Gunnar said.

"You're crazy, a swim outside? Isn't the pool like a block of ice? Brrr," I said.

"Oh no the pool is heated," Gunnar said.

"God I would hope so," I said shaking my head.

"Some take a polar plunge dip in the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon," Gunnar said.

"That would be cold," Coach said.

"I am getting chills just thinking about it, I think my cock kind of went in my body," I said.

"Here I vill varm vou up," Gunnar said as he wrapped an arm around me and pulled me close and rubbed his arm up and down on my coat.

Once the fire was started Gunnar asked, "Are vou better?"

"Yes a little bit," I said.

"My uncles are crazy. They will actually jump into the lagoon, but they also drink a little too much brandy," Gunnar said.

Coach laughed at that, I smiled.

Soon everyone was out here minus Baby Hans who was being monitored by a baby monitor. We had cups of coffee for the adults and hot chocolate for us kids.

"Vhat do you do again on New Year's," Gunnar asked holding my hand, we were sitting across from my Grandma, luckily the fire blocked out what we were doing.

"Well usually we party it up, watch the ball drop, in Times Square. Then sleep in on New Year's Day. Watch Football, there's like 6 or 8 college football bowl games on that day. Hang out at home. There's the Rose Bowl Parade, it's alright I guess," I said.

"Usually I pray," Grandma said.

"For what Grandma?" Bella asked.

"For the New Year, for our country, our leaders, my family, my friends, my church I thank the Lord for all that he has provided during the last year and I pray for a good year to come. This year I am extra thankful, because I get the chance to start over with my grand babies that I have missed out on," Grandma said.

"Excuse me, I need to go and visit the restroom," I said, then I went inside.

Gunnar soon followed me in. "Adam, vhat's vrong?"

"Nothing, I wanted to spend some time alone with you, I miss you," I said and then we kissed. Soon we were fumbling with each other's pants and my cock was starting to harden. I needed the sex. I haven't had sex with Gunnar since October, when we got caught by Charlie and Bella. It was enjoyable at first, but after Bella and Charlie walked in, it was over, we just couldn't finish.

"Maybe ve could finish vhat ve started back in October," Gunnar said.

"We would have to go downstairs to finish what we started. Come on," I said as I led him through the house to the basement. Soon we were naked on the couch I was sleeping on, thanks to my stupid back, having sex. I was on top of him giving it to Gunnar.

We heard the backdoor open and close multiple times; I knew that our time was getting short.

"Adam, Gunnar come upstairs you are going to miss Dick Clark," Tom said.

"We should probably go back upstairs," I said.

"Ya," Gunnar said.

When we got upstairs everyone was gathered around the tv watching New Year's Rockin' Eve with Dick Clark, I pulled my boyfriend into the kitchen with about a minute to go until the ball dropped.

"Vhat?" Gunnar said.

"Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. Happy 1999!" Dick said on the TV.

"This I want to kiss you," I said.

"Vell what's stopping vou?" Gunnar asked.

We kissed long, hard, slow, and kept going for two or three minutes, Gunnar had pushed me up against the refrigerator. It was perfect. Well for us, Coach had Michele, Tom had Genny, Tom Junior brought his girlfriend Valerie, Ollie brought a date over Lynette, Bella had Charlie, Connie had Guy. I heard that two of Connie's sisters were planning on kissing their younger brother. I thought I had heard someone shuffle into the kitchen, but I was so into kissing my boyfriend I just could not care. 1999 was going to be a great year for us both.

The party broke up at about One a.m., Ollie had taken Grandma home and then was going to drop Lynette off at her house. I think that Grandma was dropping subtle hints about marriage, luckily Lynette told her she wasn't ready for that step yet. Casey had to work at the diner, Fred was going to spend New Year's with her. Gunnar and Charlie spent the night with us guys in the basement. Gunnar had started on the floor by the couch and then after just about everyone fell asleep, he crawled up onto the couch with me, it was a tight fit, but we made it work.

January 2nd, 1999

Adam's POV

We didn't have to get up early to head back to California this morning, as we did to come here. Yesterday, Gunnar gave me a ring for our anniversary, complete with a silver chain. I nearly cried when I saw it. He loved the birdhouse that I gave him. Jan let us have a picnic lunch at his house for our anniversary since Michele and Coach were running around trying to get samples for everything that they would be putting into the house. Jan was working at the store yesterday, I had everything all made up for Gunnar and told him to meet me at Jan's after practice and to bring his ice skates with him. It was too cold to rollerblade so we would have to walk to the pond to go skating. We ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, Apple slices, some chips, and a few cookies. It was the best that I could do for him.

"I am going to have to cook for vou," Gunnar said after lunch.

"Really you do. Since when?" I asked.

"Since last fall, I have been taking a cooking class," Gunnar said.

"I didn't know that Eden offered such a class," I said.

"They don't, it's through a cooking school. My father insisted," Gunnar said.

"What about hockey or class?" I asked.

"It's on Sunday afternoons," Gunnar said.

"Wait a minute, you were with me last Sunday afternoon," I said.

"I know that, because of the holidays. Ve have a class on Sunday. It's too bad that vou are leaving tomorrow," Gunnar said.

"So what can you make?" I asked.

"Vell not much, brownies, cookies, cake, pie that sort of stuff," Gunnar said.

"God I can feel the pounds creep back on," I said.

"That's the beauty of Charlie being my roommate, Goldberg and Averman on one side of us and the Bash Brothers on the other side. Total farbage visposals," Gunnar said with a smile on his face.

I laughed before I said, "I can see it, especially Goldberg. It serves him right for what he did to Julie."

"Vhat did he do?" Gunnar asked.

"Freshman year he tried to get Julie to become slower and fatter. Just so he could be the number one goalie again," I said.

"Talk about stupid," Gunnar said as he rolled his eyes.

"I know, I felt bad for Julie when I heard about this," I said.

I leaned back and laid on my back, "Mmm… I am going to miss this. These last few days have been bliss," I said.

"I know, I vill miss vou. I hope it will go quick," Gunnar said.

"Me too, I already have a calendar purchased and I am going to put a circle around the date, when we are going to be together," I said.

"Maybe I should do that too," Gunnar said.

"Come on lets go for a skate," I said as I got up.

We went for a skate and we huddled up together kissing each other I was in heaven. Then back to Jan's for a tumble between the sheets.

I was sad to say Goodbye to him this morning when he and Charlie showed up at the Moreau's for breakfast before the 11 O' Clock game today. I didn't want to let go of Gunnar when it was time for them to leave for their game. As we were winging our way to the west coast, I felt my heart breaking repeatedly.

"Cheer up, Banksie! It will go fast, July will be here before we know it," Coach said.

"I hope so, Coach, I hope so," I said as I clutched Gunnar's ring in my hand. That I would hold each time that I thought of him and believe me it was a lot!

A/N: Yes, I researched it, Icelander's do go swimming on the 1st of January. Crazy right? Please don't hurt me for the use of the one sided conversation in Icelandic between Gunnar and his mom. So what do you think? Please leave a review! Thanks!
