Chapter 7
After spending another few days in the hospital, Chris was finally discharged and was free to go. Of course being his usual stubborn self, the next day he was back at work, despite Jill's protests. The agent that they caught and Alana interrogated had been booked and sent to the slammer, awaiting his trial date. But for a certain Captain, he knew it was not going to last long if Umbrella got involved. But then again, he was left behind so he was possibly considered expendable in the eyes of Spencer. Things settled back down in the office and mostly returned to normal. Joseph goofing off sometimes as usual, Barry asleep at his desk, Chris chatting it up with Jill while working on reports and Alana sitting happily in Wesker's office, drawing away on the notepad she got.
"Alana." The young girl perked up upon hearing her caretaker's voice. "I want you to do something for me. I want you to give these to Captain Enrico Marini and Miss Rebecca Chambers. You know what they look like?"
Giving a nod, she took the two folders in her small arms after placing down her drawing pad. "I'll be right back!" she chirped before starting to leave.
"DO NOT let Irons see you," Wesker added as a warning and Alana nodded again, her smile disappearing for a moment.
That was the last thing she wanted; it was bad enough he was giving her glares that made her feel uncomfortable and angry. As much as she wanted to do something, she couldn't. With that, she hurried out of the room and headed towards Bravo's office, careful not to let the fat man see her. She watched herself around the other police, being so small, as she did not want to be accidentally stepped on.
Finally managing to make through the hallway, ducking and hiding whenever she saw Irons coming into the vicinity, she slipped inside and closed the door. Forest Speyer looked up from his computer and grinned. "Hey there kiddo!" He would wave, gaining Enrico's and the others' attention.
"Hi guys. I have something for Captain Enrico and Rebecca Chambers," Alana spoke up as she walked amongst the desks.
"Is that her? Aww, she's adorable!" Rebecca Chambers squealed with a beaming grin as she stepped out from behind her own desk, making Alana giggle a bit with a slight blush.
"Geez, Chambers, chill. It's like you're seeing her as a baby," Edward Dewey spoke with a playful roll of his eyes while smirking a bit.
"What? She's a cute girl," Rebecca replied with a slight indignant tone before turning back to Alana and kneeling down before her. "I'm Rebecca. Rebecca Chambers. But call me Becky if you want to."
"It's nice to meet you, Becky," Alana says and the two shook hands before she handed her the folder from Wesker. "This is from Captain Wesker."
"Oh ok. Thanks," Rebecca nodded before taking it and ruffling her hair a bit, making the young psychic laugh a bit before going over to Enrico, who accepted his with a nod of thanks and a smile of his own.
"By the way, we brought some fresh chocolate cookies from the bakery down the road. Want one before you go?" Forest asked her, who eagerly nodded and immediately took one from the small box on top of the middle desk.
"Thanks guys!" She then hurriedly left, not wanting Irons to see her in case he happened to come in.
Enrico smiled after her, which made Rebecca cock her head a bit to the left in question. "What's on your mind Captain?" the young medic would ask.
"… Nothing Miss Chambers. It's nothing," he would say with a shake of his head. But in his mind, he can see that Alana was going to be one lucky girl on her birthday, which happened to be in a few months.
Back now in Alpha Team's office, while Alana had been away, Wesker had just now finished some paperwork and stuffed a few sheets into another manila folder and placed it into his drawer. 'With this, I can further protect her and make sure Umbrella doesn't get their hands on her,' he thought to himself. With a proud look on his face, he would nod to himself before looking to the black leather book resting within another drawer below the one he had the papers in. His gloved fingers brushed against the front of it almost.. reverently. Only he knew why. Just then, the door opened up and Alana came back in. "Mission accomplished," she says with a playful salute.
"Well done. Thank you my dear," Wesker nodded back to her before closing the drawer, hiding the book. Perhaps later...
A bit later, however, Joseph would come in with a groan. "Bad news, Cap. Just got word from a few of our buddies downstairs. AC blew out awhile ago," he said and Wesker took off his sunglasses, pinching the bridge of his nose in annoyance.
"And knowing Irons, he is going to pitch a fit about it if it is not fixed soon," growled the Captain with minor irritation in his voice. "Tell the boys downstairs to make sure that AC gets fixed. Otherwise, we're going to have one angry Chief breathing down our necks."
"Don't need to tell me twice," Joseph nodded before closing the door and going to tell the rest of the two teams. This garnered an almost synced reaction: groans of annoyance both from the rising heat that was inbound soon and also with Irons possibly about to get on their backs about what's going on.
After Frost left to relay the message, Chris and Jill brought up a chest full of ice and bottles of water for the incoming rise in temperature that would come within a few hours. What would they give to go to the pool or to the beach right about now instead of being stuck in the office when the full hot atmosphere would sink into the confined space. But for Chris, to hell with what Irons thought.
"Well I say fuck it. Let's get the hell out of here and head for the pool or something. I'm not gonna sit on my ass and melt just because that fat bastard won't pay for the AC repairs," he said while crossing his arms with a defiant tone.
"I'm with ya on that one. I am not going to bake like a turkey in an oven while we wait God knows how long for Irons to get the damn thing fixed. That's like, what, the fourth time this happened?" Jill would add with a nod in agreement.
"I wouldn't mind putting a turkey in your oven," Chris muttered and Joseph, having just got back, heard what he said and snorted at his playful jab. Barry, from his place at his desk, tried to stifle his own laughter.
"Captain, what do we do? Do we HAVE to stay here or can we leave?" Brad would ask Wesker. "I don't want to stay in here and roast alive. I am going with the others on this one."
Wesker was silent for a moment. For once, he silently was agreeing with their opinions. Irons was a stingy bastard and his purse strings were tighter than a nun's virgin hole ('Damn you, Chris,' Wesker thought) Sighing after a few moments, he would nod. "I suppose we could head out early-" This earned a cheer from the group. "BUT!" He would interrupt before the group got too loud. "We make sure we keep this quiet. If someone wants to, they may alert Bravo team and invite them if they wish to come with us. At any rate, Irons is probably too busy sat in his office fanning his disgusting self to notice."
Laughter and snickers ensued before they unanimously agreed. Brad would be the messenger and of course, Bravo team was all too eager about leaving the quickly stifling office. Packing up their stuff, they quietly left their respective areas and out of the police department, heading off their separate ways to get their swimsuits and towels and whatever they needed.
The two teams convened back at the garage near their vans. "Now that we are all here, where should we go? The lake or the pool?" Rebecca asked.
"The lake," Jill piped up. "Think about it. On a hot day like this, the pool that is close to the RPD is going to be packed with officers on their breaks or are off duty. So our best bet is to head up to the lake."
"Sounds like a plan to us. Ok, guys. Pile into the vans and let's go," Chris said before getting into the Alpha Team's van with Joseph, Brad and Barry right behind him with Jill and Wesker bringing up the rear. "This is better than my plan."
"What plan was that?" Joseph asked him.
"I didn't have one," Chris shrugged, making some of the group groan at this and the sharpshooter gave a slight laugh before Barry took the wheel and the two teams were off.
Raccoon Lake
The two vans pulled up to several picnic tables and the teams piled out. "WOO HOO! LAST ONE IN IS-" Joseph started to race for the water, but a hand grabbed his arm and yanked him back.
"Joseph!" Jill held up a bottle of sunscreen. "I am not going to hear you complain again of sunburn just because you decided to be an idiot and not put some on."
"Aww come on Jill! It was just a little sunburn," Joseph pouted, hands on his hips.
"Little, my ass. You looked like barbeque'd pork. You were bitching and moaning about how much it hurt every time you touched it. And how much it hurt when you touched yourself.. down there," Chris piped up with a smirk.
"Redfield, watch your mouth!" Wesker snapped, gesturing with a nod of his head to Alana, who was busy putting on sunscreen.
"Bite me, Wesker!"
"Fuck you, Chris!" Joseph barked back at him, shooting him a dirty look. However that earned him a good hard SMACK! to the back of his head from Wesker. "OW!"
"Language!" The Captain reprimanded again. "You won't be warned again."
"She's going to hear curse words sooner or later, Wesker. Get over it," Joseph snapped back.
"I'll give you something to get over. Maybe over my knee in a second," Wesker growled, narrowing his eyes behind his sunglasses.
"Sheesh... someone needs a nap.." Joseph muttered, thinking he was out of earshot as the Captain seemed to be walking back to Alana to help her out.
"I heard that," Wesker said suddenly, making the bandana wearing male jump a bit. How the hell did he hear that from all the way over there?! "I'll let you get away with that once. Do it again.. and you'll find yourself on the unemployment line. If you are going to act like a brat, Frost, I will put you over my knee and spank you like one."
"No thanks," Joseph squeaked, subconsciously clenching his butt.
After the team settled down and placed their things on the tables, some of the guys hurried towards the water and jumped in, hollering excitedly. Alana tottered to the shore and dove in from there, swimming out to the deeper part. As for Wesker, he managed to sneak away from the group and slipped into the water on the other side, away from their eyes. He would visibly relax as he sighed in relief.
'At last..' he thought to himself, allowing a small smirk to cross his face before diving under the surface, barely making a sound.
As Joseph would jump in.. he would forget two things. One, his clothes were still on and two..
HIS RADIO WAS STILL IN HIS BACK POCKET.
Soon after cannonballing into the water, there was a minor POOF and a plume of water would shoot from behind Joseph, startling him. "The fuck!?" He gasped before immediately getting out and finding out what made the explosion. But then he heard some of the boys starting to lose themselves in laughter, followed by a comment from Chris.
"Hey Frost, nice briefs!" Looking behind him he saw a small charred circle and immediately remembered what was still there and was not anymore.
"Goddammit, my radio!" This would bring about another round of guffaws and bellowing laughter from the guys still in the lake.
"Did you have the beef burrito for lunch?! That's a butt burner right there!" Barry hollered between bouts of laughter.
"Hey Joseph, I can see the crack in your defense!" Chris laughed.
"SHUT THE HELL UP!" Joseph yelled back at them, blushing heavily from embarrassment.
"I have seen the ring! And now I wish I didn't," Richard piped up before using Forest as support, his sides and face hurting from laughing so much.
"I see London, I see France! I see Joseph's underpants!" Alana sang out before busting into a fit of giggles.
"Kid, not you too!" Joseph cried out as he tried to adjust his pants to hide the hole in them. "Goddammit, this is so not cool!"
"Maybe you should have remembered your radio was still in your pocket before you jumped in, you stupid idiot," Jill would scold him.
"Hey Joseph, the 1980's called. They want their chaps back," Forest called out before the guys lost it again and Joseph growled in irritation while Chris gave his friendly rival a high five.
"Men.." Jill would shake her head before heading for the water herself and diving in after them.
Little did they know, the group was being watched by seven pairs of eyes, of which one pair a certain member of their group was familiar with. Despite being able to sense their presence, the one connected to the group watching would smirk to themselves.
