Chapter 27
May 7th, 1999
Charlie's POV
Pre-Calculus was going so slowly today. Every time I looked at the clock, I swear it only moved 2 minutes if that. I was so tired of school, and we were 2 weeks until the last day of school. I still had 5 plus hours of homework a night. I knew if I were going to Southwest with Jesse and Terry, I knew that I would not have as much homework. Jesse could not believe the amount that I said that I had until he showed up last Friday, wanting to play some schoolyard puck, which I couldn't anyway because of my broken hand.
"Damn, Conway. That's a lot of homework," Jesse said.
"It's this way from the first day of school until the last day of school," I said.
"What the hell is this, High School or College?" Jesse said.
"I know the worse one that piles the work on is Dr. Madigan, where every Monday we would have a practice quiz, every Wednesday we would have a real quiz, every Friday we would have an exam and anytime she felt like it, we would have a surprise quiz or exam," I said.
Jesse's jaw dropped and then he said, "Damn I am never complaining about 2 hours of homework a night again."
"I know," I said.
Finally, the bell rang dismissing us from Pre-Calculus and school for that matter, "Hold on I still have to give you your homework," Dr. Anderson said.
The class collectively groaned.
"Don't give me that, I know there is two weeks left of school, you have 2 weeks until your final. I still have 2 weeks to teach you! SIT DOWN CONWAY!" Dr. Anderson barked.
I sat.
"Now your homework quick review chapter 9 lesson 6 questions 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10. Exercises 2 thru 52 even numbers only. Read lesson 7 for Monday, all right have a good weekend.
"When I finally got to the English Classroom JFA 216, I saw that Paddy, Bella and Dr. English came out of the classroom. I kid you not, her name was Dr. English and she taught English, life is sure full of ironies.
"Hey Bella, Paddy you haven't seen Reese, had you?" I asked.
"No, I did hear her grumbling that she had to pick something up from parenting class. Not sure what it is," Bella said.
"Oh ok," I said.
As I was walking towards where Reese had her parenting class, I had met her in the courtyard. She was carrying something.
"Hi," I said and then I kissed her on the cheek.
"Hi," Reese said and then she rolled her eyes.
"What's that?" I asked.
"Our child for the weekend," Reese said.
I did a double take before I said, "What?"
"It's my assignment for parenting class,' Reese said and then pulled the blanket off what she was carrying. It was a plastic baby strapped into a car seat, 'may I introduce you to Charles Alexander Conway, Junior."
"Oh, how adorable," I said.
"Yeah, how much of a pain in the ass," Reese said.
"You're not happy about this?" I asked.
"Nope, but it's either I do it or I fail. I don't have a choice," Reese said.
"Gotcha sweetie," I said.
"You're going to help me, right?" Reese said.
"Uh," I said.
Reese rolled her eyes before she said, "Typical, get me pregnant and then leave."
"I am sorry sweetie. Of course, I will help you this weekend. Isn't that right, Junior?" I asked.
"Ugh, I hate that," Reese said.
"What? If I am Charlie and you named the baby after me. You can't have 2 Charlie's running around," I said.
"I just hate the word, Junior," Reese said.
"You're kidding me, right?" I asked.
Reese looked at me like I was dumb.
"I guess not. What about your parents aren't they home this weekend?" I asked.
"Nope they are at a Marriage retreat in Georgia. Come on Charles, you know you want too," I cringed at Charles. Only mom would use that usually when she was mad at me.
"Mom's expecting me home this weekend," I said.
"I knew it, you are such a selfish jerk!" Reese said as she threw the blanket back over the car seat and started to walk off in a huff.
I quickly caught up to Reese and said, "Well hold on, maybe I can. I would have to get someone to be the fall for me.".
"Ok," Reese said, and we walked up to my dorm room. My bag of clothes was sitting on my bed ready for me to go home for the weekend.
"Hey Gunnar," I said as I walked into our room.
"Charlie, Veese," Gunnar said.
"Hey, I need a favor, I am going to be at Reese's all weekend. When my mom calls could you pretend that I just stepped out for a minute?" I asked.
"Vou vant me to lie to vour mother?" Gunnar asked with his eyebrows raised.
"Yeah, that's the gist of it," I said.
"I can't do that, I von't," Gunnar said.
"Okay, then I could call Adam and tell him that you're coming out there when school gets out in two weeks and visiting him," I said.
"And vuin Ollie's suvpvise? THAT'S NACKMAIL!"
"You've got it Gunnar!" Reese said.
"I don't delevie this," Gunnar said.
"So, what do you say Gunnar?" I asked.
"Do I bave a choice?" Gunnar asked.
"Nope," Reese said.
Gunnar sighed heavily and took a long look at a photo of him and Adam on his desk before he said, "Vine."
"I could almost kiss you Gunnar," Reese said.
"Ekki koma neitt nálægt mér brjálaður tík! (Don't come anywhere near me you crazy bitch!)," Gunnar said.
"Well, that's only half of our problem, now I have to sell this to mom," I said as I called Mickey's Dining Car.
"Mickey's" I heard Matt say.
"Hi Matt, It's Charlie can I talk to my mom?" I asked.
"Yeah, just a minute! CASEY PHONE!" Matt said.
"Make it quick, Charlie! I am kind of busy," Mom said.
"Yeah, I have a ton of homework to do this weekend, preparing for finals, do you mind if I stay here for the weekend instead of coming home?" I asked.
"What's wrong Charlie?" Mom said.
"I'm fine, I just have a lot of studying to do this weekend," I said.
"What about your laundry?" Mom asked.
Usually when I came home for the weekend, I did my laundry at mom's house. "Um I think that Gunnar has to do laundry this weekend. So, I will borrow the money from him to do the laundry. If not, there is always Portman or Russ," I said.
"Oh, Okay I suppose. Study hard and I will see you in 2 weeks?" Mom said.
"Yeah, sure," I said.
"Can you come over sometime next week? We need to plan for Fred's 40th birthday party," Mom said.
"But Fred's 40th birthday was last year," I said.
"I know that, Charlie. I promised him when we made up that I would throw him a 40th birthday party on his 41st birthday," Mom said.
I shook my head, before I said; "You guys are weird."
"That's what happens when you become a parent," Mom said.
Just then Charlie, Jr. started to cry. "Charlie, what was that?" Mom asked.
I mouthed to Reese, "to take care of it.' before I turned back to mom and said, 'It's one of those fake babies, you know that you have to take care of it for the weekend. Gunnar wanted some extra credit." Gunnar glared at me.
"Oh, I see. You sure you don't want to come home? I think you would get more studying done at home," mom said.
"Yeah, I am sure," I said.
"Well Okay, Charlie! Have a good weekend and study hard!" Mom said.
"I will mom, I promise! Goodbye," I said and then I hung up the phone.
"So, vow vhat?" Gunnar said.
"I go to Reese's and anytime mom calls you cover for me," I said.
"Okay," Gunnar said.
"I am going to grab the rest of my stuff together. Can I borrow some detergent from you?" I asked.
"I am sure that Maria went to the store today to get stuff for the weekend, I'll bet she picked up some laundry soap," Reese said.
"Vhose Maria?" Gunnar asked.
"Our housekeeper," Reese said.
"Oh," Gunnar said.
After Charlie, Jr. was ready to go, and I had finished packing we were walking out to Reese's convertible. "Uh Reese, the car isn't big enough," I said.
"What are you talking about Charlie? It is too," Reese said.
"Uh the baby has to go into the back seat, and you don't have a back seat," I said. I knew that from when Gunnar had The Baby Think It Over and we had to run to Hans skate shop to get Gunnar's skates sharpened. Jan shook his head at Gunnar having that baby.
"So just stick it on your lap," Reese said.
"Maybe we should take my jeep," I said.
"Just get in the car, Charlie! It's not like the baby knows what is going on," Reese snapped.
When Reese snapped like that, I did what she said. I felt guilty while we were driving toward Reese's house.
Once we got to Reese's I helped Reese inside with the Baby and then went out to get my stuff and brought it into the house.
"Shouldn't you pull the baby out of the car seat?" I asked.
"Please it will be just fine," Reese said.
"Should we order a pizza for dinner tonight?" I asked.
"OH YUK! THAT IS FULL OF FAT AND CALORIES. I AM TRYING TO LOSE 5 POUNDS. GOD DAMN IT CHARLIE YOU ARE SO STUPID!" Reese yelled at me.
"I am not stupid, I am just trying to figure out what we should have so we can study together," I said.
Baby Charlie cried a few more times and Reese attended to the Baby. Just before it was time for us to head upstairs for bed. Reese left baby Charlie by the door still in the car seat.
"Uh, Reese," I said.
"WHAT?" Reese said.
"Uh Baby Charlie," I said.
She gave me a look of disgust, then rolled her eyes, grabbed the car seat, flipped baby Charlie out of the seat and the baby hit its head on the floor. It cried. "SHUT UP!" Reese said to the baby. Then she threw the baby back into its car seat and carried it upstairs.
"Uh Reese, I think you have to comfort the baby," I said. I didn't know much about babies, but I knew that when baby Hans cried, he was comforted by either Coach or Mrs. Bombay. I wasn't sure what to call her since she married coach.
When we got up to her room, I noticed a lack of a crib for baby Charlie. "Uh Reese, shouldn't you have a crib for the baby?" I asked.
"It will be fine in the car seat, it's not like that thing knows what is going on," Reese said.

Charlies POV
Baby Charlie started crying again. The crying had been going off and on for hours. "Reese," I said, shaking her.
"What?" Reese said.
"I think you better attend to Baby Charlie," I said.
"Oh, it will shut up here in a little bit," Reese said and fell back to sleep. After two or three minutes of Baby Charlie crying and Reese not doing anything about it, I decided to get up and do something about it. I grabbed baby Charlie and held him like I thought you were supposed to hold a baby and took the key that was attached to Reese's arm and placed the key in the back of the baby to do whatever it needed to be done. Once baby Charlie was back to sleep, I grabbed the paperwork diary that needed to be filled out and noticed that Reese didn't fill out the paperwork at all. I shook my head at this and filled out the line that I filled out. I knew that I had to speak to Dr. Cooper who was Reese's teacher on Monday before class, since Reese was being a bad parent. I know I need to dump her; I just don't know how yet.

Gunnar's POV
It had been quiet while Charlie was away for the weekend, Casey called a couple of times to talk to Charlie and I told her that Charlie went out for various things. Like asking Bella a question on Pre-Calculus or went down to the vending machines for a snack or a soda. There was a knock on the door. I opened the door and saw who it was, Fred and Casey.
"Mr. and Mrs. Jackson. Nice to see vou," I said.
"Well, we have come to see Charlie, where is he?" Casey said.
"I think he mentioned something about going to the library," I said.
"Really, because we went through the library and didn't see him there, Gunnar and all of Charlie's phone calls home had been coming from information, where is he Gunnar?" Casey said.
"How fid vou bnow?" I asked.
"I'm a parent I know. I know that you are lying to me Gunnar and have been all weekend, so where is Charlie?" Casey said.
"Alright, I can't lie anymore. Charlie is at Veese Brockmeier's house. Has been all weekend," I said.
"Where is her house, I need to speak to him," Casey demanded.
"I have the address somewhere," I said.
"NOW GUNNAR!" Casey demanded.
I started to rifle through my desk until I came up with a piece of paper. "1004 Hennepin Avenue, Edina," I said.
"Thank you, Gunnar," Casey said.
"I am berry, berry sorry for lying to you, please forgive me. Charlie asked me too," I said.
"Gunnar we will discuss this later after I am done throttling my SON!" Casey said and then she and Fred left.
Casey's POV
I was so pissed at Charlie I could not see straight. When we pulled up to the guard house that was protecting Royal Estates, I was ready to kill Charlie.
"Name?" The Guard asked.
"Fred and Casey Jackson hear to see Charlie Conway and Reese Brockmeier," Fred said.
"Sorry you need to turn around, there is no Charlie Conway listed on the guest roaster and Ms. Brockmeier is alone this weekend. Dr. and Mrs. Brockmeier are out of town," The Guard said.
"There has to be a mistake I was told that my son was here," I said.
"There is no mistake, you can speak to Dr. and Mrs. Brockmeier when they returned from out of town," The Guard said.
"When will that be?" I asked.
"Sometime tomorrow afternoon. Now turn around or I will call the police," The Guard said.
"Fine, fine," Fred said as he turned the car around. I was going to get Charlie for this.
7:15 am May 10th, 1999.
Charlie's POV
"Ready to go," I asked.
"Yes,' Reese said as she buckled Baby Charlie into the car seat. 'I can't wait to get rid of him. I am never having children. I wonder if Daddy will let me have a hysterectomy," Reese said.
"Ne-, Never?" I asked.
"Nope, let me guess you wanted a child?" Reese said.
"Well, yeah. Someday," I said disappointed.
"Well, we could have dogs. They are much easier to care for," Reese said.
I scoffed. After we dropped my stuff at the dorm, Reese and I walked down to her parenting classroom was, Henkel Science Building.
"Oh Ms. Brockmeier, Good morning! How was your weekend?" Dr. Cooper said.
"Utterly horrible, I can't wait to dump this thing and get some sleep tonight," Reese said.
"I see and do you have the paper diary I had you fill out?" Dr. Cooper said.
"Yeah, right here," Reese said. As she pulled the paperwork out her bag.
"Very good, Ms. Brockmeier," Dr. Cooper said.
Reese had the whole thing filled out; I could not believe it.
"So, what did you think, Mr. Conway?" Dr. Cooper asked. I had Dr. Cooper as a study hall teacher my freshman year.
"It was different," I said.
"I wish you would take my parenting class. I think you would learn a lot," Dr. Cooper said as she pulled a pair of scissors out of the drawer to cut the key off Reese.
"Yeah, I don't think so! Sorry," I said while itching my head.
"Too bad, Mr. Conway. There you are Ms. Brockmeier you are free," Dr. Cooper said.
"Finally, I will see you later Charlie," Reese said, and she left.
Dr. Cooper hooked the baby up to a cord on a computer.
"Something the matter, Mr. Conway?" Dr. Cooper said.
"Yes Dr. Cooper, Reese was very abusive to the baby this weekend. She was more than happy to let it sit in the car seat. I had to take care of it a couple of times," I said.
"I see; Baby left in the car seat for 60 hours of the 64-hour weekend. Baby not properly restrained in the car twice. Baby dropped and left on the floor to fend for itself. It shows that Ms. Brockmeier was not a particularly good mother. So, she won't be getting a good grade at all," Dr. Cooper said.
"How did you know that?" I asked.
"It has a computer in the back recording everything that is happening," Dr. Cooper said.
"She didn't do her diary until last night," I said.
"I can tell that, because I see your entry Mr. Conway and then it jumps back to Friday," Dr. Cooper said.
"Thanks Dr. Cooper," I said.
"No Problem. Thank you for being honest with me," Dr. Cooper.
Just then the first bell rang, "You better get something to eat before the class starts," Dr. Cooper said.
"No Thanks, I already had something, I think I am just going to walk down to the gym and get ready for PE," I said. As I was walking down to PE, I was hoping the guys would have an idea of how I could dump Reese.
A/N: So, what do you think? Please leave a review! Thanks!
