Chapter 30
May 23rd, 1999
Gunnar had to go to the restroom early this morning. I decided to sleep in a little more this morning since Gunnar and I got a good workout last having sex. When Gunnar got back from the restroom, I heard Gunnar say, "Æ, sonur tíkarinnar sem særði. Heimskur þyngdarbekkur. (Ow, son of a bitch that hurt. Stupid weight bench.)"
"You okay Gunnar?" I asked.
"Já ég er í lagi, ég stubbaði tána á mér." Gunnar said.
"Huh?" I asked.
"I said that I am vine I just stubbed my toe," Gunnar said.
"Ouch. You poor baby. Hey," I said.
"Hey, Vhat?" Gunnar asked.
"You were going to teach me some Icelandic. When am I going to learn?"
"Soon," Gunnar said.
"Come on Gunnar there has to be something you can teach me?" I asked.
"No," Gunnar said.
"Please?" I asked.
"No," Gunnar said.
"Gunnar I am serious I want to learn, please teach me?" I asked.
"No," Gunnar said.
"I just want one word. Just want one word. Please Gunnar, please?' I asked.
"Alright, the word for boyfriend is kærasti," Gunnar said.
"Tirerustinn?" I asked.
"No, kærasti," Gunnar said.
"Say it again," I said.
Gunnar repeated the word three or four more times before I got it, "kærasti."
"Dásamlegt! Kærasti," Gunnar said.
"What?" I asked.
"It means Vonderful! Boyfriend," Gunnar said.
I learned a couple of more words for yes, no, mom, dad, brother, sister, Iceland, Hockey, and the United States of America. When a knock came on the door, "Adam, Gunnar it's almost time for church are you two getting ready?" Annie asked.
"Já," I said.
"I am going to take that as a yes," Annie said.
I and Gunnar quickly changed, and we went to church. We had to be careful with how we acted towards each other. I felt like such a phony in Church and that God was shaking his finger at me.

Gunnar, Ollie, and I were waiting at gate C6 in Reno for Gunnar's plane to board. I was holding on tight to Gunnar. I knew I was going to miss him. After today we would have 52 days until I would see Gunnar again. It was sure to go fast and go slow at the same time. Ollie said that the days will go fast but the nights will pass by so slowly. I sighed heavily.
"It's going to be okay. Ve are going to be okay, I promise," Gunnar said.
"You sure?" I asked.
"Ya I am sure," Gunnar said, and he squeezed my hand. I kissed his hand; I knew I was going to miss him terribly.
"American Airlines flight 546 to Phoenix now boarding at gate 3," We heard the announcement over the speakers.
"Well, vhat's my vlight," Gunnar said.
"I know," I said sadly.
"I need to go and doard," Gunnar said.
"I know," I said sadly.
"Adam, you need to let go, so Gunnar can get onto the plane," Ollie said.
"But I don't want to," I said.
"Sjáðu Adam, ég elska þig! Ég mun alltaf elska þig. Við erum komin niður í 52 daga. Við höfum náð því langt og við munum gera það sem eftir er," Gunnar said.
"Huh?" I asked.
"Look Adam, I love vou! I will always love vou. Ve are down to 52 days. Ve have made it this far and Ve vill make it the rest of the way." Gunnar said.
"Ég vona það, Gunnar, ég vona það sannarlega. (I hope so Gunnar, I really hope so.) I will miss you so much," I said with tears running down my face. I had more of a chance to practice my Icelandic with Gunnar on Sunday afternoon. Gunnar promised that he was going to send his Icelandic to English Dictionary that he used when he was first learning the English language in the fifth grade.
I hugged him, I so wanted to kiss him. But I knew that was not possible. I sadly let go of him and I started to cry as I watched my boyfriend go through the ticket line and get onto the plane. Ollie placed an arm on my shoulder and said, "52 days Adam, you can do it."
"I know Ollie I know," I said. Ollie agreed to let us watch Gunnar's plane take off down the runway, because he knew that it was a 2-hour car ride home and I would not be able to concentrate on anything until I knew that Gunnar landed in Minneapolis.

8:50 pm Minneapolis Time
Gunnar's POV
Despite a light drizzle coming down in Minneapolis we touched down on time at 8:27 pm we were 10 minutes to get to our gate and I was another 10 minutes before I got off the plane. I had asked Charlie to come and pick me up from the airport and bring me to his home. I made my way down to baggage claim where Charlie and I had agreed to meet. I decided to call Adam at Lakeshore and got Ollie on the phone who immediately handed the phone to Adam.
"Did you make it?" Adam asked.
"Ja I am at the virport in Minneapolis. Waiting for Charlie," I said.
"Okay, I love you. I will see you in 52 days," Adam said.
"I am counting down every moment of it. " I said.
"Ég elska þig (I love you)," Adam said.
"Ég elska þig líka (I love you too)," I said.
"Líka?" Adam asked.
"That means too, T-O-O," I said.
"Okay, bless Gunnar," Adam said.
"Vou are doing well with Ísland Language. I vant vait to teach more," I said.
"I can't wait to learn more. I love you," Adam said.
"Ég elska þig, Adam bless," I said.
"Ég elska þig líka, Gunnar bless," Adam said.
We hung up the phone and I went to the windows to wait for Charlie, I knew that he would be arriving soon. An hour later, Charlie still had not arrived yet. I wanted to go home, I called Charlie.
"Hello?" Charlie asked.
"Hey Charlie, it's Gunnar, did vou vorg-" I said and then I was hung up on. I dialed the phone number again and again I was hung up on before I got a word out. I dialed a 3rd time and got a busy signal. I then decided to call Bella at Connie's house.
"Hello, Moreau house," Mrs. Moreau said.
"Hello Mrs. Moreau, it's Gunnar is Bella there I need to valk to her," I said.
"Yeah, I think they are still awake, Paddy, Bella, Connie and Guy are watching a movie. Hang on," Mrs. Moreau said, and she walked downstairs to the basement, I heard through the muffled microphone that Bella had a phone call.
"Hello Gunnar," Bella said.
"Hey can vou pick me up from the virport? I tried to get Charlie and he kept hanging up on me," I said.
"What's going on?" Paddy said.
I heard the phone being covered up and then some muffled sounds again. Soon Bella came back on the phone and said, "Paddy said to give us 20 or so minutes."
"I will be vaiting," I said.
25 minutes later Paddy and Bella pulled up to the door of the Airport and I quickly got into the car that he was driving.
"Thanks for coming to get me Paddy and Bella," I said.
"Yeah, no problem. I had to call mom and the Colonel and tell them that I was going to be late, so as soon as we dropped you at Charlies. I have to go and drop Bella back off at Connie's and then I need to head home," Paddy said.
"Okay," I said.
When we pulled up to Charlie's apartment, I saw a box of my stuff sitting on the porch outside. "Hvað í fjandanum? (What the hell?)" I asked. I took my stuff and suitcase walked up to the apartment door and tried to open the door. It was locked, so I knocked.
Charlie answered the door and groaned, "Oh it's you."
"Vhat the hell Charlie? Vhat's my stuff doing out here?" I asked.
"That's the treatment that the stuff of one low down, no good, ex roommate and friend get;" Charlie said.
"Vhat are vou talking about Charlie?" I asked.
"I am talking about what you did to me the weekend that I went to Reese's. You said that you would cover for me. Well guess what? I am now grounded, and you are now without a place to stay for the summer. So good luck finding a place to live for the summer, and I will see you in August," Charlie said.
"But Charlie, Vour mother and stepfather came to the dorm and," I started to say.
"No buts, Gunnar. Get your shit and get out," Charlie said.
"Vhere, am I going to stay?" I asked.
"I don't know, and I don't care. You can be out with the bums out on the street," Charlie said and then he slammed the door in my face and locked it. I grabbed my box that was drenched from the rain. The box started to fall apart when I got back out to Paddy's car.
"What happened?" Bella asked.
"I just lost my home for the summer," I said.
"Oh no, I'm sorry Gunnar," Bella said.
"I know," I said with my shoulders slumped.
"Well, we have to find you a place to stay for the night, Paddy can you bring Gunnar to your home?" Bella said.
"Nope, you have to go through a background check before you get admitted on the base. There is not enough time to get the background check done before my curfew," Paddy said.
"Vhat about the Moreau's?" I asked.
"No go, the rest of the kids still have school," Bella said.
"So vhere am I going to go?" I asked.
"What about Grandma's, at least until you find a place to go," Bella said.
"Vhat's getter vhen going home," I said.
"You would actually go home?" Paddy said.
"I font vant to go home. I vould miss Adam," I said.
"Come on let's go ask, her. I am sure she will accept once we explain," Bella said.
When we got to Bella's grandma's we explained everything, and her grandma was agreeable to letting me stay at least for the night.
A/N: So, what do you think? Please leave a review! Thanks!
