Chapter 6: Chase's Magical Misbeliefs
It has been two weeks since the Galactic Defenders formed. Ben has told the team that they each has access to 10 forms as a beginner set. Kaz complained about it, but Ben cheered him up by telling the team that they're able to obtain new forms momentarily. Chase supported Ben in his decision, since he has hidden bionics and unlocked them momentarily as well. Jack and Kim then agreed and told them that instead of trying to obtain new forms, they should train with the forms they already have, like training a small army to defeat a larger army. Kaz gave up complaining and agreed with the rest of the team.
(Mission Creek Museum)
The Mission Creek High school students are in the museum because of a field trip that is very mandatory. Chase, Leo, Adam and Bree are currently in front of the student group as protection.

"The Archamada Book of Spells is said to contain exceedingly strong and powerful ancient spells, rituals, witchcrafts, and incantations, dating back to the sixteenth century. Any questions?" asked the museum guide. Leo raised his hand before the guide looked at his student list.
"Yes, Mr. Dooley?" asked the museum guide.
"I've heard that 6 years ago, that book was taken to maximum security because a magician named Hex tried to steal it. Are you sure that it is safe to put it back in display?" asked Leo, making Chase scoff.
'More like an alien pretending to be a magician.' thought Chase. Since Chase is the smartest one out of the whole family, he never believed in magic, seeing it as unexplained science.
"That is an excellent question, Mr. Dooley. Hex is the only one in all of history who attempted to steal the book. Hex hasn't been seen in 5 years, so the museum agreed to put it back in display." answered the museum guide before he moved on.
"How did you know about the book thief?" asked Adam before Leo grinned.
"Hex is the first magician enemy that Ben 10 has ever faced during his first summer with the Omnitrix." answered Leo.
"Are you sure it isn't an alien pretending to be a human magician?" asked Chase annoyingly.
"Yeah. The doctors did multiple scans to prove that he is human." answered Leo angrily.
"Did they check his weapons?" asked Chase.
"Dude, just admit it. Magic. Is. Real." emphasized Adam.
"No, it isn't." frowned Chase.
"Says the guy who can turn into one of 10 creatures from another dimension." deadpanned Bree.
"They're aliens from a different dimension, not magical creatures." corrected Chase.
"If they were aliens, then how come Ben couldn't turn into one of those Bakugan?" asked Leo.
"Because their DNA has some sort of elemental coating. If magic does exist, then let's (sarcastic) just float off onto the roof with no powers." insulted Chase before suddenly, everyone in the museum lifted up to the ceiling by some unknown force.
"YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I WAS JUST BEING SARCASTIC!" shouted Chase angrily, drawing everyone's attention toward him before a pink portal appeared in front of the Archamada Book of Spells. Stepping out of the portal is Charmcaster (Alien Force/Ultimate Alien Appearance) with two of her giant rock monsters looking at the book with a smirk.
"It's about time I picked up from where Uncle Hex left." gloated Charmcaster before she aimed her staff toward the glass case, shattering it invisibly as the spell-book levitated toward her. Meanwhile, Chase is scrolling through the Bakutrix, searching for a useful form.
"Chase, can't you go hero and kick that chick's butt?" whispered Leo.
"Just need to find the right form. Bingo!" whispered Chase before he slammed the Bakutrix dial.
(Chase's transformation scene)
Chase's jeans turned black before his jacket turned into green armor while extending to his knees. A green belt appeared behind his waist before it wrapped itself around it, revealing a blue sapphire holding it together. His shoes turned into knee-high green armored boots. Brown scale-like clothing appeared around Chase's chest and lower arms. Two silver bladed green gauntlets appeared in front of him before he put them on his forearms while his hands turned into black gloves. His upper chest armor closed, covering his upper chest before a silver ninja star appeared on the clothing below it. Chase put on a green helmet before black side-burn-like armor grew out from the sides. A green and blue faceless mask appeared in front of him before he snatched it and put it on, concealing his face.
"Taylean" cried the armored Chase.
(Back in the museum)
Taylean extended his arms toward Charmcaster before a green energy kunai formed between them. The energy kunai flew toward Charmcaster before one of her rock monsters ran toward it with his arms up, trying to defend against the attack. The energy kunai struck the stone creature, destroying it and creating a seismic wave that hit Charmcaster, interrupting her concentration on the gravity push.
"AAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!" screamed everyone in fear as they fall toward the floor. Taylean started to disappear and reappear on the ground repeatedly with a civilian until he put down Leo, Adam, and Bree last. Charmcaster shook off the pain before she turned around and noticed the Davenport siblings.
"Another shape-shifter?! One was already bad enough!" frowned Charmcaster as she points her staff toward the destroyed rock monster's pieces. Suddenly, the rocks began to glow a faint pink before they reassembled into the rock monster previously destroyed.
"I told you magic is real!" exclaimed Leo as he points at the reassembled rock monster.
"This is no time to prove a point! You need to get everyone out of here!" ordered Taylean as he took a fighting stance. Leo looked at the civilians around the area and nodded toward Adam and Bree. Bree nodded before she went to super-speed everyone out of the building while Adam cuts a hole in the wall to create an escape for the others. When the area cleared out, the non-shape-shifters ran through the hole in the wall while Charmcaster's rock monsters stood across from Taylean.
"Get em', boys!" ordered Charmcaster as if the rock monsters were dogs. Nonetheless, they obeyed and ran toward Taylean, who has his arms crossed. As the rock monsters jump toward Taylean, Taylean's gauntlet blades extended before he cut the rock monsters in clean fourths, destroying them in the process. When Taylean looked forward, he noticed that Charmcaster is nowhere in sight.
"Uh! She got away! That miniature assault was just a distraction!" grumbled Taylean before he changed back in a blue flash. He looked at the rock monsters' remain before he put his left index finger on his head, scanning the remains.
'This doesn't make sense! According to the scans, the rock monsters were made of a foreign mineral, but there is nothing that shows that they were even alive to begin with! If they were robots, then I should've detected any amount of electricity inside them. I need to report to Ben about this.' thought Chase as he walks out of the museum.
(Rust Bucket III)
The Galactic Defenders are currently sitting in around the control room. During the first week of their hero career, Ben has managed to convince Kevin to let him use the RB3 as their mobile base.
"CHARMCASTER HAS THE ARCHAMADA SPELLBOOK?!" shouted Ben when Chase finished his explanation.
"I don't get why the book's so important. It's not like magic does exist." shrugged Chase, receiving angered looks from everyone.
"OH COME ON! Don't tell me you believe in that mumbo-jumbo too!" groaned Chase.
"A few superheroes I know are actual magic users." said Kaz.
"Not to mention the time when Jack and I faced a real life ghost possessing Milton's body." added Kim.
"Don't forget the fact that my cousin could use magic, too!" frowned Ben.
"Are you sure they aren't aliens or meta-humans?" asked Chase with a raised eyebrow.
"You serious, Chase? I met a Geochelone Aerio that has a pink flaming head, and that's not normal for that species." retorted Ben, making everyone give him confused looks.
"Terraspin's species." sighed Ben angrily.
"That still doesn't prove that magic's real. That could be a mutated Geochelone Aerio." frowned Chase with his arms crossed.
"Let's refocus on our plan here. Charmcaster already has the Alpha Rune, so why does she need the book?" asked Ben, making everyone give him confused looks once again.
"The Alpha Rune is a mystical artifact that controls all magic in a realm called Ledgerdomain, Charmcaster's home dimension." explained Ben.
"Maybe she doesn't know how to control the Alpha Rune, so she got the book to help her." suggested Jack.
"Good thinking, Jack. There is one way to get to Ledgerdomain, but someone I know is not going to like it." sighed Ben.
(Friedkin University Garage)
"YOU WHAT?!" shouted Gwen as she sits on Kevin's car's hood while he works under the car.
(A/N: Gwen and Kevin have their Omniverse appearances and the first part of the episode, The More Things Change occurred a week before they became Galactic Defenders)
"We need you to teleport us to Ledgerdomain so we can get the book back." explained Ben.
"But it's too dangerous! With both the Archamada Book of spells and the Alpha Rune, Charmcaster is practically unstoppable!" warned Gwen.
"Nothing's unstoppable!" exclaimed Jack with a grin.
"I said practically. Charmcaster could use a spell to destroy the planet, or worse!" frowned Gwen, waving her arms in the air for emphasis.
"Which is why we need to stop her!" exclaimed Ben.
"You can't stop him, Gwen." said Kevin as he moves away from the car. Gwen groaned before she rubbed her eyes.
"Alright! I know this one spell that can get you there, but it's limited to 2 people." warned Gwen. The Galactic Defenders look at each other before Ben stepped forward.
"I know the place the most, so I'll go." assured Ben before Chase stepped forward.
"Me too. After all, I'm responsible for letting her get the book." admitted Chase. Gwen nodded before she took out her spell-book from her pocket. She opened it and pointed to Ben and Chase with her eyes and hand glowing pink.
"Meven Aweg" chanted Gwen before a pink mana dome surrounded Ben and Chase, shortly teleporting them.

A pink mana dome appeared on a black rock path before shortly disappearing, revealing Ben and Chase looking around.
"This is going to be harder than I expected." frowned Chase with his arms crossed.
"Rule one of superhero business: Never underestimate the task's difficulty." quipped Ben before they heard screeching. They looked up to see a swarm of Scrutins flying toward them.
"What are they? Rock bats?" asked Chase as the Scrutins blast mana toward the duo before Chase made a blue force field, surrounding the duo and protecting them from the attack.
"They're called Scrutins. They always travel in packs and if they're here, there's no doubt that Charmcaster knows we're here." answered Ben. Chase nodded before he deactivated the force field and activated the Bakutrix.
"I would suggest using a non-flyer, because the sky and earth aren't parallel." advised Ben with a shudder, remembering when he used Jetray and got dizzy. Chase nodded before he slammed the dial.
(A/N: I am not showing the transformation scene with the same forms repeatedly.)
"Contestir" cried the Haos Bakugan as his shoulder cannons charge yellow energy. The shoulder cannons fired the charged energy at the Scrutins, destroying some of them in the process.
"I have an idea, but I hope it works." muttered Ben as he activates the Ultimatrix shortly before slamming it down.
(Ben's transformation scene)
Ben's skin turned green. He rolled up his sleeves to his shoulders before he reared back his arms. When he pushed them forward, his skin became loose and passed his fingers before they became black claws. They combined with the loose skin, turning them into flippers. His legs pulsed and destroyed his pants from the knee, turning stubby and covering the feet. His faced gained thin black stripes under his eyes. A brown turtle shell spun toward him until he somersaulted, avoiding the attack before he landed on the shell, spinning along with it, and creating a tornado hiding Ben from sight. The tornado quickly descended to the ground, showing that he is wearing the shell.
"Terraspin" cried the amphibian Ben.

Terraspin jumped a few feet in the air and hovered in place. Terraspin's head disappeared into his shell while his arm flippers straightened out, and his leg flippers came together to form a third blade. Suddenly, the three blades began to spin as gusts of wind blew out from the holes in Terraspin's shell. The Scrutins were having a hard time fighting against the wind projected by Terraspin. Contestir's front horn has fired a yellow energy beam at the Scrutins fighting against the wind. When Contestir turned around, he noticed more Scrutins firing mana behind Terraspin.
"LOOK OUT!" warned Contestir as he runs toward his Geochelone Aerio friend. It became futile when the mana blasts left no scratch on Terraspin's shell. Terraspin turned around and blown the Scrutins away. Terraspin stopped his spinning as his leg flippers split while his head poked out of his shell.
"Don't worry. When I'm Terraspin, I'm immune to mana." assured Terraspin. Contestir nodded before rock monsters rose from the ground.
"Are you immune to rock monsters?" asked Contestir nervously. Terraspin sadly shook his head before the rock monsters surrounded them.
"Sorry, rockies. We would like to stay and break, but we got to go." quipped Terraspin before he leapt forward while entering his aerial mode.
"Hop on!" ordered Terraspin. Not needed to be told twice, Contestir shoulder blasted a few rock monsters before he jumped on Terraspin's back while Terraspin was hovering away from the rock monsters. Contestir sighed in relief under his helmet as he sits down before he slapped the Bakutrix symbol on his chest, returning to normal.
"How come you're not affected by the non-parallel sky?" asked Chase, recalling when Ben warned him about the flying disadvantage.
"The sky and earth are non-parallel by magic, and I'm immune to magic." answered Terraspin.
"Oh, here we go again." groaned Chase.
"Chase, I'm telling the truth. Magic does exist." replied Terraspin.
"You're kidding me, right? I read about Charmcaster on the Plumber files during our trip to F.U, and she was born in this dimension. She's just an alien that looks human. Skylar's an alien, and she looks human, too." frowned Chase.
"Just because a human uses abnormal abilities doesn't mean that they aren't human." pointed out Terraspin. Before Chase could talk back, a mana rope entangled around his waist before he got pulled toward a large rock platform.
"CHASE!" shouted Terraspin as he flew to the direction of the rope. When Terraspin reached the platform, he changed back before landing on the ground in one knee. When he looked up, Ben saw Chase being dragged toward a stone castle from the open gate. Worrying for his team-mate, Ben rushed toward the mana rope before grabbing it and pulling it, creating a tug-of-war with whoever is inside the castle.
"Fac Arenam De Terra" chanted a familiar voice from the castle as the ground below Ben turned into quicksand before he started sinking in it.
"How did the ground turn to quicksand? Nothing even touched it." asked Chase as Charmcaster exits the castle while holding the other end of the mana rope.
"Sounds like you don't believe in magic." assumed Charmcaster with a smirk as she pretends to examine her nails.
"That doesn't prove anything. You used a vocal command to make the ground into quicksand with your geokinesis, you alien." frowned Chase.
"Oh, I have much more than earth spells." gloated Charmcaster as she stops examining her nails before two giant rock monsters rose from the ground.
"Petra Monstra Fiunt Viva Adamas" chanted Charmcaster as the rock monsters become diamond. Chase activated the Bakutrix before he looked between Ben (still struggling in the quicksand) and the diamond monsters walking toward him. Not paying attention to the selected form, he slammed the Bakutrix.

Chase's skin turned crimson red while his fingers and toes became stubby claws. He clenched his fists before an extra claw came from his knuckles while his blue jacket becomes ripped as pale yellow dragon wings grew out of his back and connected to his arms. Orange plating covered his front while bright red plating surrounded it. His head became dragon-like before he grew a yellow horn blade from his snout. He shut his eyes as he roared before he opened his eyes, revealing blue pupils.
"Dragonoid" cried the Pyrus Bakugan.

"I recognize that symbol. You were that shape-shifter that was at the museum, weren't you?" asked Charmcaster as she points at the Bakutrix symbol on Dragonoid's chest area while he spread his wings, freeing himself from the mana rope.
"What gave it away? My human form, or the blue eyes?" quipped Dragonoid with a smirk. Charmcaster frowned before shortly smirking.
"Doesn't matter. You couldn't beat me at the museum, so what makes you think you can beat me when I have the home advantage?" asked Charmcaster before a green flash occurred.
"Because this time, he's not alone." answered a familiar voice. Charmcaster and Dragonoid turned to see Humungousaur standing on a miniature crater, possibly from the quicksand that his transformation destroyed.
"Three against two. The odds are stacked against you." smirked Charmcaster, not surprised that Humungousaur freed himself. Charmcaster pointed toward the duo, signalling the diamond monsters to attack. The diamond monsters nodded before they ran forward while Dragonoid took to the air. Humungousaur roared before he ran toward the diamond monsters.
"Chase, go get Charmcaster. I'll take care of her jewelry." ordered Humungousaur. Dragonoid nodded before he spit out a fireball. Charmcaster waved her hand toward the fireball, suddenly redirecting it to Dragonoid. Dragonoid flapped his wings, creating a gust of wind returning the fireball to Charmcaster. Charmcaster extended her palm toward the fireball while Dragonoid continued flapping his wings. Both combatants struggled against the push. Charmcaster's eyes flashed pink before the fireball disappeared in a pink flash.
"Looks like we're in a stalemate." observed Dragonoid before a fireball hit him from behind.
"You sure?" asked Charmcaster sarcastically before multiple fireballs hit Dragonoid from multiple directions.
"If you like the heat, you should definitely like this. Vulcano Deprehensus Pila Captionem" chanted Charmcaster before the ground below Dragonoid rose and trapped him while turning into a sphere of magma.
"NNNNOOO!" shouted Humungousaur before the diamond monsters jumped him. Gritting his teeth, Humungousaur lifted the diamond monsters with one hand each and threw them over to Charmcaster
"Alright, it's too late to go hero, but I can go Ultimate!" shouted Humungousaur as he slams the Ultimatrix symbol before four prongs in an X pattern came out.
(Ultimate Transformation)
Humungousaur turned green with a dark blue chest and torso. His forearms rotated before he smashed them together, stopping the rotation and revealing silver barrels and black claws. His forearms turned into missile launchers before he fired missiles. When they shot forward, the missiles turned back and flew toward Humungousaur. Some of them flew around his head before they became blob like and turned into a solid dark blue helmet with black side horns pointing downward. Others had flow around his tail before they became blob-like and turned into a solid dark blue sphere on the tip of the tail. The remaining missiles became blob like and hit Humungousaur's back before they formed a solid dark blue shell. Silver spikes grew out of the helmet, torso, chest, shell and tail.
"Ultimate Humungousaur" cried the evolved Vaxasaurian.

Ultimate Humungousaur's forearms turned into missile launchers before he fired missiles at the diamond monsters. When the missiles exploded on contact, the diamond monsters slowly cracked until they are completely destroyed.
"Doesn't matter what they're made of. They're nothing but obstacles." smirked Ultimate Humungousaur before the diamond monsters reformed.
"Let's see you try to get through the course." smirked Charmcaster while the diamond monsters ran toward Ultimate Humungousaur. Ultimate Humungousaur continued firing missiles while the process repeated continuously.
'Chase, whatever you're doing in there, I hope you hurry up!' mentally cried Ultimate Humungousaur while looking at the magma sphere.
(Chase's mindscape)
"Wait a minute! Where am I? Last thing I remember was getting trapped in a magma sphere." recalled Chase in a dark void before he looked at himself.
"And I was Dragonoid, how did I change back?" added Chase before a bright light filled the dark void, forcing Chase to shield his eyes. When the light died down, Chase uncovered his eyes to see that he is back in the old Davenport lab with a younger Donald, Bree, Adam, and Chase sitting around a table with objects on it.
"I remember this. This was one of the old magic tricks that Davenport made 10 years ago." recalled Chase before covering his mouth until he realized that no one noticed him.
"Must be a flashback." guessed Chase while Donald grabbed three plastic cups and a ball.
"Pay attention to the ball." said Donald as he sets the ball on the table before putting a cup over it. He sets the other cups before he shuffled them around the table. When he finished, Adam pointed at the middle one. Donald picked up the middle one, and hissed when there was no ball under it.
"Sorry, Adam. Bree, you're next." announced Donald as Bree points at the left one. Donald hummed before he picked it up, showing no ball under it.
"Chase, third time's the charm." said Donald as Younger Chase picked up the last cup, revealing no ball under it.
"How did you do that, Daddy?" asked Younger Chase amazed. Donald grinned before he took Younger Chase's cup and set it on the table.
"It's (picks up the cup to reveal a ball) MAGIC!" cried Donald, making the Davenport siblings clap in applause before they yawned.
"It's getting late. Get in the capsules, sleepyheads." joked Donald as the Davenport siblings get in their separate capsules. Without looking at them, Donald grabbed the ball and plastic cup.
"Ah, it's nice to use science to imitate magic. Too bad I don't know real magic." sighed Donald as the ball touches the cup magnetically.
"Good thing I made a magnetic cup and the ball has metallic springs." smiled Donald before he heard a gasp. Donald turned to see Younger Chase in his capsule with tears in his eyes before he ran out crying.
"Chase, wait! I didn't mean to!" cried Donald as he runs to the direction Younger Chase ran. The flashback turned back into a dark void.
"So that's why you stopped believing in magic." stated an unknown voice, making Chase jump and look around.
"Who's there? Show yourself or else!" threatened Chase as he puts his hand over the Bakutrix.
"As you wish." replied the voice before a fire appeared in front of Chase before forming into Apollonir.
"Who are you?" asked Chase.
"I am Apollonir. Pyrus Legendary Soldier of Vestroia, or I was, at least until I sacrificed myself to give the original Dragonoid my Attribute Energy." introduced Apollonir, making Chase raise an eyebrow.
"So technically, you're a Bakugan ghost?" asked Chase.
"No, my body was sacrificed but my spirit lives on. I already know who you are, Chase Davenport. The teenage genius who can turn into one of 10 Bakugan. Fabia chose a good person in her opinion, but in my opinion, you don't believe that nothing's impossible, mostly magic due to what I've seen lately." explained Apollonir, making Chase sigh sadly.
"It's true. I used to believe in magic when I saw Davenport do those tricks, until I found out that they were all fake 10 years ago." recalled Chase.
"Chase, if magic isn't real, then how am I here if I'm dead? How could that human called Charmcaster use many different spells?" asked Apollonir.
"I don't know. For the first time in my life, I can't use science to explain it." answered Chase angrily.
"Both science and magic are important, but your beliefs must be balanced or neither of them are explainable." advised Apollonir before he started fading.
"Apollonir, wait!" shouted Chase as he reached out toward Apollonir.
"Balance is important, young Davenport. Remember that." advised Apollonir before he faded completely. Chase looked down while his arms fell limp. Chase clenched his fists before he looked up to where Apollonir is with a smile.
"Don't worry, Apollonir. I WON'T LET YOU DOWN!" cried Chase as his body created a fiery aura.

Charmcaster is smirking at the sight of Ultimate Humungousaur dog-piled by diamond monsters. Before she could celebrate her victory, the magma sphere cracked while glowing red.
"What's happening?" asked Charmcaster to no one in particular as the diamond monsters got off Ultimate Humungousaur. The magma sphere completely cracked before it exploded. When the smoke cleared, it revealed...
"Delta Dragonoid" cried the evolved Pyrus Bakugan while flying in mid-air. Charmcaster and the diamond monsters took a step back while Ultimate Humungousaur rose from the ground with a smile.
"You're in trouble now." quipped Ultimate Humungousaur as Delta Dragonoid reared back his head before he spit out multiple fire meteors, destroying the diamond monsters.
"Don't get so happy. I'll just reassemble them again." smirked Charmcaster before a stray meteor hit the ground in front of her, blowing her to the castle wall and knocking her out. Ultimate Humungousaur and Delta Dragonoid smirked before turning to each other.
"You going to explain about my evolution to the others, or should I?" asked Delta Dragonoid. Ultimate Humungousaur gave him a thumb up before they slammed the symbols, changing back to Ben and Chase.
(Rust Bucket III)
Chase is currently standing in front of the other Galactic Defenders explaining everything that occurred in Ledgerdomain, finishing with Dragonoid's evolution. Thanks to the advanced communication function in the Bakutrix and Ultimatrix, Ben and Chase were able to call the others and tell them about their condition, and Gwen got them back with a return spell. Charmcaster is in a Plumber cell, and the artifacts returned to the museum.
"So when you got back your belief in magic, you evolved into Delta Dragonoid?" asked Jack.
"And you met a legendary soldier of Vestroia?" added Kim. Chase nodded.
"Wait a minute. Can all of our forms evolve?" asked Kaz.
"Yes, but not permanently. When we evolve our forms, they subtract a chunk of transformation time, and when we change back, the evolution is undone. Chase is the only one who can permanently evolve his forms." answered Ben, making Kaz fist pump.
"And the best part is Charmcaster is in a special magic-proof Plumber cell." smirked Chase, along with the others, glad that Chase knows magic is real like the rest of them.
(Charmcaster's Cell)
Charmcaster is currently meditating while a few Plumbers passed by. When the coast is clear, Charmcaster took out a folded piece of paper from her shoe. She unfolded it to see a picture of five swords and a purple haired woman above foreign words.
"Good thing I ripped this from the spell book, because when I break out of here, no one, not even the Galactic Defenders will be able to stop me." gloated Charmcaster as she maniacally laughs.
