Caretaker
I love dimension travel fanfic, I love HP, and I love Eragon, so yeah
Why is there so less Eragon-in-hogwarts fanfic? So i decided to make my own haha
Takes place at 5th year
"We have three changes in staff. We are very pleased to welcome back Professor Grubbly-Plank, who will be taking Care of Magical Creatures lessons; we are also delighted to introduce Professor Umbridge, our new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher."
The entire school was thrilled when Dumbledore announced the news that Filch was retiring-something about the sewer pipes exploding into in his room that made him crack.
"Lastly, after twenty-one years of service, our previous caretaker, Argus Filch, has decided to retire from his title."
A noticeable whooping sound rose among the students.
"One less thing to hate." Harry cheerfully said.
"In place of our now-empty spot, we are delighted to announce our new caretaker, Eragon, who is now currently cleaning up the explosion in the first floor's male bathroom."
A large group of Gryffindor turned to the Weasley twins, who simply winked at them.
"I swear on Merlin's beard, if it's something like Filch again-"
"Quite the contrary, in fact," said Nearly Headless Nick as he leaned over them. "I've heard that quite a few females have taken quite a fancy in him. A good looking one, he is."
"What's the good use of that if he's with the Ministry?" Ron grumbled as he prodded at his tart.
"We already know that Umbridge is here to monitor us," Hermione frowns in worry, "If the caretaker really is with the Ministry, then his position would allow him to freely roam around without suspicion."
"It's fine Hermione," Ron assured her. "Harry and his invisibility coat will do the job."
Hermione swats Ron for the sake of swatting.
Fred, on the other hand, turned to George, "A new caretaker."
"A good-looking one." George grinned.
"We're gonna need to prepare a nice and warm welcome for our new Eragon, don't you think so?"
"Why, you just read my mind."
Harry shuddered and pity rose in his heart, then turned back to Dumbledore's continued speech, the new caretaker already put in the back of his mind.
"Tryouts for the House Quidditch teams will take place..."
The next morning, as Harry, Ron and Hermione were eating breakfast in the Great Hall, Harry couldn't help noticing that there were a lot more giggles and chattering.
"What are you guys talking about?" Harry asks Parvati and Lavender, who were being the loudest.
"The new caretaker," Parvati smiles, "We ran into him yesterday."
"And?"
The two simply smiled rather wistfully and didn't say anything.
Harry turned back to Ron, who simply shrugged, "I dunno mate, they're girls, how am I supposed to know what they're thinking?"
Hermione snorts in her orange juice.
The volume in the Great Hall increased suddenly, and Harry looks around in confusion, only to see a black figure walking down the aisle.
"Is that the caretaker?" Ron, who also noticed, nudged Parvati.
Parvati sighs in reply.
Giggles were exchanged and blushes rose in some cheeks as the new caretaker strolls down to the professor's table. Harry couldn't see his face clearly, but he could tell that the new "Eragon" was undoubtedly a much more popular caretaker than Filch.
The caretaker-right, Eragon-stops in front of Dumbledore, and after a brief exchange the headmaster stands up.
"Eragon has requested me to inform you all that the bathrooms are not meant for experiments of any kind, and should he catch any students red-handed, detentions will be given out accordingly."
Ron snorted, "Yeah right, like that has stopped anybody."
George/Fred on the other hand, nods very seriously, "You are very right Ronnie, what kind of a prankster would we be if we get frightened by punishment?"
"Personally, I would wish otherwise," Harry nearly jumped out of skin as he whipped his head around to see a very good-looking man, with facial features that could be described as "ethereal", almost...inhumane.
Speaking of which, how in Merlin's name did he come here so quietly?
Hermione squeaked slightly in surprise as well.
"Mr. Eragon!"
The caretaker smiled at her, and ignoring the numerous other squeaks from the table he looked back at the twins.
"You see, cleaning up explosions are rather annoying, even with magic."
Fred smirks slightly, "Don't worry about that, Mr. Eragon, this is just a welcome tradition. We do it every year someone new comes."
"Just a symbol of our warm welcoming." George helpfully supplies.
"Nothing else."
"No more."
"No worries."
Ron coughs into his pumpkin juice.
Harry notices a stifled amusement in the caretaker's eyes.
"Then you won't mind that I return this to you?" He reached into his robes and took out a small jar with a luscious red sauce-like liquid within. "I'm not a master at potions, but seeing that this was hidden among the Slytherin's basket of jams, I would rather treat it more cautiously."
"Oh, and I also sealed the lid, so don't try opening it. Perhaps it can be a souvenir of your experiments."
Fred and George gawked for a second, before breaking into a simultaneous beam and takes the jar back. Eragon smiles slightly-everyone knows that it's not over-and leaves.
George looks to his twin, "An opponent."
"A worthy one."
"Why, I think we should start trying a bit harder, hm?"
"I cannot agree more, my dear Georgie."
Ron leans over to Harry, "I sense that we will witness a legendary battle."
Harry cannot agree more.
Will probably add more, just don't know when
Probably depends if this actually gets read
