I stared at the white walls. Those same white walls I woke and fell asleep surrounded by. The scent of sterilizer and sanitation products plagued my nostrils. But, since when was that new? My head felt like it was splitting in two and my stomach aches for any type of nutrition.
I was sick of all the lab testing. I'd been fasted for over 48 hours to test the limitations of my body under stressful conditions. I'd overheard the lab technicians talking about something about my quirk's performance capabilities and pressuring its 'reform'.
Whatever that meant.. I was just glad the blood draws were over. I'd felt dizzy due to my multiple samples. No food and excessive blood loss definitely took a toll on my physical strength.
I heard the familiar buzz of my cell door. I groggily stood and maneuvered over to answer.
Per usual, the tray slot opened and my dinner plate was slid through. I glanced over my selection: Tuna onigiri and a can of orange juice.
I sighed depressingly.
Why should I be surprised?
I turned after taking my plate and as I went to go sit at my bed to eat I felt a sudden tremor in the ground.
What-
I suddenly collapsed to my knees dropping my plate, spilling everything.
So many voices, panic, a ruckus of conjoined thoughts and emotions.. my head throbbed.
Then, a loud boom exploded outside the walls of my room. I heard shouting, gunfire, then, silence.
Gripping my head, I scooted backwards into the corner of the wall and curled into myself making myself as small as possible. I squeezed my eyes shut.
Please.. it must have been my test results.. I'm going to be punished. I must've not done well during examination I..
BOOM!
My eyes shot open and I stared at the crumpled remain of my doorway. Out of the dust, a large man stood clothed in red, blue and yellow. He stood grinning proudly in the doorway.
"Hello young lady! Do not be afraid! Because I'm here! Here to rescue you of course!" He bellowed.
I froze at the echo of his words.
Rescue?
~~~
The subsequent events were all a haze. I exited my stall and realized the aftermath of the events that had unfolded. Many of the laboratory workers were being handcuffed and led away. The guards that weren't unconscious followed behind. My rescuer led the way while a group of other unusually dressed comrades followed behind.
As we entered an unfamiliar hallway, I saw light shining through shutter doors and I froze in my tracks.
Is that—?
I began shaking uncontrollably. I couldn't believe my eyes. Sunlight. I hadn't seen natural light in so long. I'd long forgotten what it looked or felt like.
I felt a hand gently grip my shoulder. I looked up and realized I had tears in my eyes.
My rescuer smiled brightly:
"It's alright. You're safe now."
The doors opened and I stepped into the outside world. The sunlight stung my eyes. But, the warmth that enveloped my skin was a comfort I hadn't realized I'd missed until I felt it once again.
Before too long, I was led into a small transport vehicle and was separated from the group that had rescued me. A small group of what I assumed were medics began attending to me as the vehicle drove to our destination.
I had no idea where I was going. But, for the first time in a long time, I felt at ease. I felt safe.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop and I was helped out. I looked up and saw at a tall glass building. Then, I was escorted inside where I was asked several questions about my captivity and any information I had about myself or the people who were also at the facility where I was found.
The buzz of the aura surrounding their inquiries strained on my mind. I could feel their urgency and it made me antsy. I bit my lip trying to shake the uneasy feeling it caused in my empty stomach.
I could tell they were becoming agitated when suddenly the door swung open and my rescuer and a man dressed in black wearing a white cloth around his neck and goggles entered the room.
I felt some sense of relief wash over me.
"Hey there kiddo!" my rescuer called, "We came by to see how you're holding up! Also, to offer you something to eat and drink if you're up for it."
I could barely contain myself at the mention of food. I felt myself begin to salivate and swallowed awkwardly.
"I'll take that as a yes!" He chuckled as he slid a brown bag across the table we sat at.
I hurriedly grabbed the bag and poured out it's contents. The long since forgotten scent of hamburgers and crispy fries filled the air. I began scarfing down the food less than gracefully.
Both the men's' eyes widened.
"Wow kid you must've been starved, how long has it been since you've eaten a proper meal?" the man dressed in black asked.
"Oh.. um.." I coughed nervously, "Let's see.. um.. the intercom went off 12 times and my tests are every 4 hours ... sooo about 3 days now?"
I felt the shock etch across their expressions.
"Well... young lady," my rescuer began, "I'd like to introduce ourselves. This is my colleague Eraserhead and my name is AllMight. We're heroes and we, along with many others, were assigned to raid a facility that was under the suspicion of hosting illegal testing and human experimentation."
It was hard to focus on what was being said to me. My hunger overcame my entire thoughts.
"So, do you know anything about why you were being held captive or what happened to the others being held there?"
I choked on the drink I'd just swallowed. I wiped my mouth with my sleeve, "O-others?"
"You.. didn't know." AllMight sighed sadly.
"N-no.. I was only brought out for tests and.. other things."
"What other things?" Eraserhead pressed.
Bits and pieces of memories of excruciating pain and my own screams filled my thoughts. I squeezed my eyes shut. Suddenly, AllMight began crying out in pain.
I opened my eyes and a purple haze has enveloped his head and he was on the ground writhing in pain.
Other members began rushing into the room in an attempt to aide AllMight. Suddenly, their attention was on me and I felt the heat of their anger flow into me.
"It's the girl!" one of them shouted angrily pointing at me.
"I-" I stammered.
Eraserhead jerked his head upwards and looked at me. His eyes glowing red. I felt stunned by fear then suddenly the burning of the surrounding emotions faded along with the haze surrounding AllMight.
AllMight stood slowly and began reassuring those around him. However, Eraserhead never broke eye contact with me.
"AllMight, her quirk.." he breathed.
"I had suspected, I saw.. things that happened in there. This girl was under some serious experimentation, and severe pain."
I tilted my head in confusion. I'd never done anything like this before, "You.. you saw?"
"Have you ever known the extent of your quirk?" Eraserhead asked.
"N-not really. I honestly was never told what exactly it was, and.. well.. I don't even remember how it came about.." I stated, "I just.. have always been able to.. feel things.. emotions, thoughts, desires of others.. but, when it gets too much.. sometimes it..."
Eraserhead broke his gaze and began discussing something with AllMight. I felt the unease of suspicion creep into my mind. I truly hated my quirk at times.
"Well kid, do you have a name?" Eraserhead droned.
"I don't know," I shrugged, "They always just called me Patient 4-C."
"Hmm," AllMight thought to himself, "I don't think that suits you and.. considering circumstances I think something a bit more cheerful."
"How about Katsumi?" Eraserhead interjected.
"Wow Aizawa," AllMight raised a brow, "Didn't know you were so poetic. Katsumi, means overcome. Fitting don't you think?"
I nodded. Katsumi.. I didn't mind that name. Much better that a patient number.
"Also, since we don't really know much about your past and since this is your first day with a new name, happy birthday Katsumi." AllMight beamed.
