A few things before we begin. One, this is my first fanfic, so it will most likely suck. Two, I am being way too ambitious with this, so it will most likely suck. Three, this story will contain lots of gore and death and probably other bad things, expect graphic depictions of violence and self harm and such, read at your own discretion. Four, expect erratic updates. Five, I only own my ideas, I do not own any pictures unless I say I do, and I do not own Nintendo or other affiliated companies. With that cleared up, without further Adieu.
Once upon a time...
There was a hero, and that hero wore green.
The hero saved the princess from the forces of darkness using the power of courage.
After everything, there was peace for a time, until the world was once again plunged into war by the same being.
Time and time again the hero would fight against a darkness that never really changed.
The only difference between the battles of light and darkness was when it happened.
Sometimes the war happened after a great discovery or after years of peace, maybe it was expected, maybe it wasn't.
There are a few questions to be asked. Why does the Goddess Hylia not strike down this great evil? Why do we keep facing off against this threat to our world? Where is true peace?
The answer to those questions can be found in a few simple words. There is no such thing as peace or n the literal sense. The Goddess Hylia realized that if she were to strike down Gannondorf, then someone much scarier, such as Demise, or worse, the hero would take up the mantle of evil.
Why then, does the story mostly happen in the same three steps? Surely the Goddess can at least change the process, but it stays the same. The princess is captured, the hero awakens, the hero wins.
The answer to this query can be found in a simple explanation.
The Goddess isn't the only deity that watches down upon the world, no. Otherwise she would have created a peace that would've lasted forever, because if she was omnipotent, then she could keep killing the evil when it rises up.
Sadly, the Goddess Hylia is not. There are ten gods, Faron, the God of the woodlands, Hylia, Goddess of life, Distari, God of Fire, Minsama, Goddess of the desert, Vinsoraal, God of Ice, Selesanso, Goddess of deceit, Asmodeus, God of Hatred, Zenistros, God of plagues, Tasami, Goddess of slaughter, and finally, Shensuul, God of Darkness. These ten divine beings are in constant balance, and it only takes one small grain of sand to tip the scales in favor of one side.
That grain of sand comes when the God of fire, Distari, begins to get worshipped by a cult of slaughter hungry fanatics. These Gods are forged by their believers, and so Distari is being slowly corrupted as more and more cultists join this cult.
This causes a shift in the power balance, and it allows for the corrupted powers of fire to merge with the powers of the evil Gods to create a black crystal capable of destroying worlds.
The shift in power led to a crack in the protective barrier that the Gods of goodness have around the world, allowing the black Crystal entry into the atmosphere. From there it fell straight to the place of worship for the cultists, the very top of Death Mountain.

The sun shone through the curtains as a man stirs from his slumber.
The man has moderately long dark blonde hair, blue eyes and tan skin. He is moderately tall, standing at about six feet tall with a lean muscular body that is dotted with scars. The most notable of scars is one that goes from the left edge of his mouth, down through his neck moving towards the right side of his neck and ending just before his throat.
A knock at the door is heard that is soon followed by the sound of the man quickly jumping out of bed and running to get the door. A frantic look is set on his face as he maneuvers through his home that is cluttered with weapons and armor of all sorts.
Just before the man reaches the door, it is kicked open, slamming the man into the wall as it swings open.
"LINK! Get out here, Now!".
The man, now identified as Link is dazed by the hit, but shakes it off and reveals himself to the man at his door wearing nothing but a pair of tan shorts.
The man is tall, standing about five inches above Link, with dark brown eyes, silver hair and dark skin. He is wearing grey pants that seem to have armor concealed in them and a silver chain mail shirt. He has a sword at his waist that has a red grip and a gold cross guard.
"Link, I thought I told you to be ready at six O'clock on the training field. It is nearly 7:30, and you aren't even dressed yet". The irritation of the man becoming more evident as he spoke.
"Sorry master, I guess I overslept"
"Of course you overslept!"
"I apologize for this inconvenience, I shall wake up at five tomorrow then"
"You better, now get dressed, I expect to see you on the training field in fifteen minutes"
"Yes Sir"

Pain
That's all she could feel as she bled out in the middle of the great forest known as the Faron Woods.
She had gone too deep, she realized that now. Her father had warned her not to go too far in, because that's where the monsters lived.
Her father had told her that even though Ganondorf was defeated over 300 years ago, monsters still roamed the wilderness, as Ganon was not the only source of evil.
She hadn't believed him as she was taught at school that Ganon was the only source of evil and that humans are good and fundamentally better than every other race.
She had learned the hard way that that was not true.
As she was exploring in her high spirits, she came across a strange tree that twisted around itself at multiple places. At those crosses, it bore fruit.
The fruit was strange, it was black and shriveled, but she was hungry and was immune to most poisons. Her father had made sure of that.
In her arrogance, she climbed the tree, and just before she could grab the fruit, the tree let out a shrill sound that caused her to grip her ears and fall from the tree.
That was not the worst part. In fact, that was heaven compared to what happened next.
Creatures appeared from everywhere, huge birds that were twisted at strange angles, quadrupedal beasts that did not have faces came from the ground around her, snakes that were a crimson color with spines protruding from their backs and at random intervals disappeared.
These creatures started tormenting her. Birds clawed at her eyes, the beasts began feasting on her arms and legs, but the worst part was when one of the smaller snakes made its way into her mouth and down her throat.
The pain became so unbearable that she was about to black out.
Then it was gone, she was fine, there was no blood, there was no pain. She could see just fine, and there was no evidence of any creature around her.
She screamed
That foul memory of pain haunted her. She began to spasm, to itch. The pain was gone, but to rip something away so quickly was not healthy. She began to peel her skin off, she gripped an arrow and stabbed herself in the leg, twisting it, she grabbed at her eyes, making them bleed.
She began to roll around on the ground and her voice went hoarse from all the screaming.
The pain was unbearable, but the absence of it was worse.
When her madness finally died down, she was left as a bleeding heap on the ground, her black hair covered in her crimson blood.
She realized what had happened. She realized that her father must be worried about her. She had only gone out to get food, and she ended up a bleeding pile of flesh and bones on the Forest floor, miles away from any civilization.
She heard a yell and tried to turn her head towards it, but the pain made her seize up. It finally became too hard to stay awake, and she slowly drifted into unconsciousness.

It had only been a normal day of training to become the weapons master of the village.
The current master, Killian, was getting old, and saw something in Link that he had failed to see in others.
Talent.
Link had more talent than anyone Killian had ever seen before.
Link was diligent in training if not a bit too lazy, but he had time to beat that out of him.
At around 3 O'clock, smoke began to rise in the distance. Neither of them knew what it was, but it appeared to be in the distance.
After a moment of wondering, Killian realized.
"It's Death Mountain"
"Death Mountain? You mean the Volcano that hasn't ever had a massive eruption because the Gorons keep it at bay?"
"Yes, the only thing I can think of that would cause that kind of smoke pillar would be if the Faron Woods were on fire, and it is too far away to be that. Death Mountain is the only being in existence excluding divine beings that could cause that. Don't worry, Death Mountain is too far away to cause us any harm."
"Master, why is it that you speak as if Death Mountain is alive?"
"Because it is. Death Mountain is the emissary of the God of fire Distari. Every God has an emissary in Hyrule, Death Mountain is the biggest one, as it covers nearly a ninth of Hyrule".
"Where are the others?"
"I only know of two others. The Tower is the emissary of the Goddess of Light, and the Cave of Ordeals is the emissary of the Goddess of Slaughter. The first can be found in the center of Castle Town, and the Cave can be found somewhere in the Gerudo Desert."
As Link was about to ask another question, the ground began vibrating as the smoke column grew larger and balls of lava began shooting out of the origin of the smoke.
The earthquake intensified and suddenly, link was thrown off his feet and fell backwards, hitting his head and falling into sweet unconsciousness.
Chapter one is done.
I will try to figure out a good chapter size in the future, but for now, I am going to write and see what happens. Please review, as I would love to see what you think and what I need to change. But I will not drop this work. If you don't like it, I don't care. I will write what I want to, and if you don't like it, then stop reading it.
Thanks.
