Diving into the Dreamscape to Erase the Nightmare
DISCLAIMER: Kōhei Horikoshi owns Boku no Hero Academia and its world and characters, not me.
AUTHOR'S NOTE: Apologies if this ends up turning a bit Final Fantasy-ish and Kingdom Hearts-ish. And I'm going to pretend in this AU that the war never really happened... so Midnight-sensei's still around.
IzuOcha Week 2021 – Day Two: Dreamscape/Nightmare
FULL SUMMARY: QUIRK: Nightmare [Knocks a person into a deep sleep and plagues them with nightmares. Either the quirk's user breaks it, or the target overcomes the nightmare to wake up.]
QUIRK: Dreamscape [Allows the targeted person to dive into a person's dreamscape to combat nightmares or to help a healing comatose person to awaken.]
When a villain puts Izuku into a nightmare-induced coma, Ochako will do anything to save Izuku. And when a person with a unique quirk opposite of the villain's quirk is found, Ochako will prove herself to be Izuku's personal true hero.
Izuku Midoriya, Third Year UA Student, was in the hospital. He's been in the hospital for two weeks now, and has yet to awaken. The reason for it was because he was targeted by a man's quirk and it rendered him into this state. And though his friends, and his classmates, all visit him when they get the time to out of the busy scheduled that was high school life and hero work, one person almost dutifully sees him every day: Ochako Uraraka, Third Year UA Student.
Today, she enters his room, just like she always have been for two weeks. She sits down next to him, after she places a new bouquet of flowers into the vase to replace the old ones. The various flowers symbolized recovery, good health, well wishes, and love.
"Izuku…"
She reached forward, and gripped one of his hands firmly. She had her index and middle fingers taped up with medical tape to prevent her quirk from activating.
"Please… wake up, Izuku… I miss you so much," she whispers. Already she has tears forming at the corner of her eyes. "I want to see your smile again. I want to hear your voice again. I want to see your eyes again…"
She sniffles.
"It hurts so much seeing you here. I… I love you. Izuku. I love you so much. P-Please…"
She started sobbing quietly.
"I want you… please… please wake up…"
She rested her head down at his side, and continued crying. Outside of the room was Izuku's mother, Inko. She had heard everything. She steeled herself, and opened the door fully and steps inside. Ochako's head shot up, the tears evident, as she stared at the boy's mom.
"I'm so glad that you feel this way for my son, Ochako." She had such a warm loving smile. The kind of smile all moms have for their children. "Izuku would be so happy. He cares so much for you every time he comes home for a nice home-cooked meal, and he never stops mentioning you to me."
She sniffled. "Ms. Midoriya…"
"My son is a very strong man. I know he'll pull through this."
Inko walks over to Ochako and she envelops the teenager into a warm hug. Ochako clung to Inko and started crying again. Inko rubs her back gently, rocking the young woman back and forth.
"I'm very happy Izuku has you in his life."
A knock on the door interrupts the tender moment, as both women look over.
"Aizawa-sensei?"
Shouta Aizawa (Eraserhead) looked tired, as he usually does.
"Uraraka. Ms. Midoriya."
"You're Izuku's teacher…" Inko releases Ochako and turns to face the man. She then bowed to him. "Thank you so much for rescuing my son."
"I wish I had saved him sooner, ma'am…"
"But you got to him, and you also stopped the persons who tried to hurt my Izuku in the first place."
Shouta waved it off gently.
"Your son can be a handful, especially since his first year at UA. But he's almost one of the most hard-working students I've ever met."
"Sensei…" Ochako wiped her tears away, composing herself. "Pardon me for asking, but what are you doing here?"
The man looks to Ochako.
"We got a lead on the case involving the quirk in question that was used on Midoriya," he answers.
That got Ochako and Inko's hopes up. Anything would be good if it would help Izuku. Ochako personally was praying that it would be news that would help waking Izuku from whatever was afflicting him, having him in this deep sleep he's in.
She remembered… how it all went down… two weeks ago…
Explosions.
A terrifying laugh.
Panicking citizens fleeing from the villain causing the destruction.
Uravity with Ingenium and Froppy was helping with evacuation while Deku was combating the destructive villain who looked like a cross between a wolf and a bat. Super strength and apparently able to breathe fire that can cause explosions. Nasty villain, really. Deku was not alone in combating the villain, for Frost Burn and Dynamight were also helping him.
It was supposed to be a simple run from the dorms to buy groceries. The next, a villain attack. Luckily for them a police squad car was in the area and police back-up had been called in, along with other hero assistance.
"Stay down you asshole!" Dynamight yelled, blasting the villain down.
Blasts of ice surged up, twisting around Dynamight and freezing part of the villain in ice, allowing Deku to move in and unleash a powered kick. It shattered the ice but the villain was sent flying down the mostly-empty street, crashing into a car. But the villain proved its resilience by getting out of the crater his body formed and threw that same crushed car at them, forcing the three boys to dodge.
But from the alleyway was another villain, watching.
"Deku!" the second man yells, rushing out.
Deku turned around, startled as a hand grabbed him by the face and the hand glowed an eerie purple color.
Uravity saw this and she sprinted fast. "Deku-kun!" she cried.
Dynamight growled.
"You asshole!"
But Dynamight had to dodge the first villain's attack and was forced to defend himself.
Deku cried out as the grip on his face tightened and the purple glow grew brighter.
"The League says hello," the man whispers, making Deku's eyes widen in shock.
Then a flash of light and Deku knew no more.
Uravity lets loose her battle cry, grappling the villain and taking him down swiftly and harshly, knocking him out afterward with a firm stomp to the back of the head. She then rushed to Deku's side and picked him up.
"Deku! Deku! Wake up!"
But Deku did not respond.
The other villain suddenly was restrained by a familiar scarf, and Frost Burn and Dynamight took this opportunity to knock the villain out cold, thus ending the skirmish. With the villain now incapacitated, Eraserhead made sure the villain was bound until more police showed up with the quirk suppressant cuffs and chains.
"Deku!" Dynamight yelled, running over to Deku, held in Uravity's arms.
"He needs help," she cried out. "Deku needs help!"
Ochako held Izuku's hand even as the nurses tended to him.
"Uraraka?"
She's jolted from her thoughts by her teacher.
"Visiting hours are almost over. You should head back to the dorms," said Aizawa.
She glanced at the clock on the wall. She noticed time had drifted on by, and she saw that Izuku's mom was now gone. She looks back to her teacher.
"But…"
"Midoriya isn't going anywhere. Hopefully, the police's lead brings forth something to help us."
Ochako wanted to argue, but she sighed softly, looking back to Izuku. She moved over and she gently kissed his forehead.
"I'll be back tomorrow, Izuku…"
With a firm squeeze of his unresponsive hand, she lets go and is escorted out by her teacher. The walk was quiet all the way to the car.
"He's a tough kid. We'll help him."
Ochako didn't respond at first. When she straps herself in the passenger seat and Aizawa pulls out of the parking lot and starts driving back to UA, she speaks up.
"What was this lead you were talking about, sensei?"
Aizawa sighed.
"The person who targeted Midoriya during the skirmish, was working with the first villain. The first villain was all a distraction in the attempt for the second villain to personally attack Midoriya. It took some time, but we learned he was working with the League of Villains. He was basically hired to put Midoriya in the sleep coma he's in. His quirk is called Nightmare. Puts a target into a deep sleep and prays on anything in their dreams that is negative in life."
"Then… why can't you have him break the quirk?"
Aizawa sighed more roughly this time.
"It requires full contact touch to activate and to deactivate the quirk's effects. He refuses to cooperate any further. But a further investigation into the man's background revealed he has a twin sister who has a quirk that is the opposite of his quirk. However, she's currently living in Okinawa. We are currently getting into contact with a Miss Yume Mado. It may take time."
Ochako looked down.
"Right now, what you and everyone else can do is focus on your school studies. We'll save Midoriya. Just have faith."
She nodded slowly, and she now gazes out the car window.
When the car eventually pulled up to UA, and Aizawa parks the car in the faculty parking lot, Ochako gets out and she walks back to the dorms by herself. Aizawa sighed. One of his kids was hurting, and another was in the hospital. He closed the car door a bit roughly, feeling frustrated that he couldn't save his kids faster.
The door opens and the class glanced up to see Ochako enter the dorm house. Several of Ochako's closest friends went to her and helped her, seeing how out of it she was. Everyone else knew that ever since Izuku ended up in the hospital after a villain attack, she's been out of focus most of the day.
Tsuyu sets down a re-heated plate of food in front of Ochako, while Hitoshi sets down the silverware. Momo was preparing some chamomile tea for Ochako to drink. But it was only after two bites of her food, that the tears started welling up again. She couldn't stop thinking about Izuku.
She pushed her plate of food aside and buried her face into her hands, and started crying openly.
"I WANT IZUKU!" she screamed, sobbing loudly. "I WANT HIM BACK HOME!"
She kept screaming and crying. Everybody rushed to her, Tsuyu pulling her best friend into a firm hug. And while everybody was trying to console her, Katsuki was hanging back with his boyfriend. The ash blond was upset with himself.
Deku was in the hospital, and Round Cheeks was slowly unraveling at the seams.
"I feel so god damn useless," he growled.
Eijiro pulled Katsuki into his arms, holding him firmly as the ash blond teen's hands clutched a fistful of the redhead's shirt.
"Everyone's working hard to help Midori-bro, Kat," Eijiro whispers to his boyfriend. "But we have to help each other from breaking. You know how Midori-bro is like. He's always so helpful to everybody here in Class A. We gotta do the same with each other."
Eijiro gave Katsuki a chaste kiss on the cheek.
"It'll be okay… we'll save Midori-bro from this situation."
Katsuki lets go of Eijiro and he grabs his phone off the coffee table, and dials up a number.
It rings three times before it was answered.
"Moshi moshi, Midoriya residence."
"Hey, auntie," he whispers softly.
"Oh. Katsuki. How are you?" Inko asks politely.
"Is… Is my mom there with you?"
A moment of quiet.
"Yes, sweetie, she is. Do you want to talk to her?"
"Please."
Silence.
"Hey, brat," a new voice breaks the silence.
"Hag."
Another moment of silence. In the background, Ochako's hysterics were more quiet as she's still being comforted by her friends.
"Is auntie doing okay?" Katsuki asked his mother.
"Your father and I are making sure she's doing okay. Don't worry."
"That's good." He breathed softly. "Thanks… mom…"
"Izuku's going to be okay, Katsuki," Mitsuki informs her son. "They'll take care of him. You make sure to take care of yourself."
"Yeah. I will."
"Lemme talk to your boyfriend for a moment."
"Whatever." Katsuki hands the phone to Eijiro. "The old hag wants to talk to you."
Eijiro nodded and takes the phone.
"Hello?"
"Eijiro-kun, take care of Katsuki for me, please. You know how moody he can be, and he's often troublesome sharing his feelings. But I know he's worried for Izuku as much as I am and his mother is. I know you're worried for him, too, and all of his friends. Take care of each other meanwhile."
"Don't worry, Mrs. Bakugo. We're all doing our best to keep strong spirits in the dorms."
"Good. Tell Katsuki good night for me, okay? And hopefully… when Izuku's recovered from this shit, we'll all get together for a nice home-cooked meal."
"Sounds good."
Eventually the calls ends and Eijiro sets the phone down and pulled Katsuki back into his arms.
"Kat. We gotta be strong…"
"I know, Eijiro…"
They all have to be.
But without the class's resident sunshine, 3-A has been under gloomy clouds.
At the hospital, Izuku Midoriya lay, unresponsive to the world, deep asleep. But in his mind, he was clutching himself, his hands gripping at his head, fisting some of his hair, as taunts and whispers and shouts echoed all around him. He whimpered from all the painful words that kept smashing into him.
Nothing but darkness enveloped him.

Izuku screamed painfully…
… As the suffocating darkness continued to slowly squeeze him.
Well… it's a first chapter. But it's not going to be a long one. Hopefully it's interesting enough for a first chapter. And yes, primary focus is IzuOcha but please don't mind the background relationships.
