History Repeats
Most mortals think that time exists on a straight line. It doesn't, mind you. Time is more of a spiral. Certain events tend to repeat despite how much things change. The only definite way to tell is to live as long as I, or for a better example my master, has. And from what someone once told me a long time ago, I am a very very old person.
I supposed that since I was relatively born in an apex of history, I have seen much of these events. Peace, Discovery, Unrest, War, Revolution, and many others. Many of these events were sometimes caused by my kind. After all, we thrive off of humanity's negative emotions. We need such energy for our goals. But we too are subjected to the spiral of fate and more than often, we quarreled against our oldest of enemies. One such encounter led to a secondary War of the Monster's Fall. And that was followed by the unexpected result of a cataclysmic event.
Whether it was the awakened powers of both God and Dark Lord or some unforeseen force, one thing was certain. The world was on its way to destruction. But yet this was not the destruction my kind had sought. In a raging storm, unfathomable energies tore bits of the world while others sank into a fiery pit. In desperation, the servants of the Gods sought us in hopes of preserving one last refuge of the world. We agreed, of course. But only so we could lead it to true destruction.
With mixture of Black and Holy magic, we managed to recreate the barrier that once circled the region of old. It was a different barrier since the magic generated a range of mountains that seem to go up to the heavens. A curious side effect of such magic so to say. But still, we managed to save at least one bit of the world.
Afterwards, both sides decided to lay low and watch the remnants of mortal kind rebuild. A necessary tactic due to lack of success for either. Much to say those inside the barrier had found an interesting discovery. The same force that shattered the world had also changed its founts into vessels of primal energy. Crystals, if harnessed correctly, could destroy astral beings such as myself and kin. Unfortunately, the vexing race of humans had found such methods and reestablished their civilization.
And much like their ancestors before them, they found their own paradise small. They soon found ways to bypass the barrier to venture into the realm beyond. Surprisingly, humans as well as beastmen had managed to survive on mountain tops. They too found usefulness in the crystals, but their methods were vastly different. It wasn't long until both sides started to exchange and flourish from each other.
Like most of these periods, both sides became separated and much of that knowledge was lost. And from the ashes of that age came a force that could have rivaled the old Capital of White Magic. One that would be known as Cyclonia.
They united the mountain kingdoms under their wing. And while their intentions were noble, they soon fell to the same vice that had plagued past kingdoms. For centuries, Cyclonia reigned with an iron fist while those lived under them endured. Until one day, a bold human stood up and became what you would consider to be the first Sky Knight.
The Sky Knight went on to free terras under their control while inspiring others to join his cause. Cyclonia, of course, did not take this lying down. The two sides, much like us before, clashed and have continued to clash to this day. I would be honest to say that my kind had their hand in extending this squabble, just to get some delightful chaos. But personally, war can get dull after five-hundred years or so.
During those years, the Sky Knights had dedicated their services to their own homes. This, unfortunately, was a terrible plan as aid from one could leave another open to attack. Thus the Atmosian Sky Council called for a squadron to be form to aid against Cyclonia and other threats. The Storm Hawks as they were called. Their former leader, a brash human by the name of Lightning Strike, led a charge to end the war once and for all. Unfortunately, one of his own had other ideas.
Now, it seems the fate of this so-called battle of good and evil is rested in the hands of the youth. The newly-reformed Storm Hawks is now lead by the descendant of Lightning Strike. And though he is young and brash like his father, his spirit reminds me of a powerful sorceress I once shadowed.
As for Cyclonia, their leader is just as young as him. And while she is malevolent and devious, the tide does not seem to favor her objectives. Cannot be helped that her servants are for lack of a better word, useless. Even her most skilled of servants, the Dark Ace, have failed her on many occasions. If I was capable of such sentiment, I would pity her.
Even so, I have other things to worry about. My kind is now preparing for another war against the Gods, one that we hope does now repeat the others before it. It's most likely that these humans will be involved. But for what we have planned…
Well, that is a secret.
Author's Notes:
Man, I haven't updated this in forever. And it's not like I haven't had ideas. It's just that I just left them in the WIP pile for a looong time.
Why I wrote this is based off two things. One is another interpretation of this crossover in which Atmos is the future of the Slayers'. The other is a reflection of how this year, especially recent events, have been going. Now I won't say anything about it other than we especially need to watch out for each other. It's just I've kinda view time as a spiral and so far, it's been downward.
Well, this is pretty much it. See ya next time!
