A/N: I wasn't going to write a fic for the holiday, but here's a tiny thing.

For split-n-splice, just because she's awesome.

Independence Day

Drakken grumbled as he paced back and forth in front of the hover-car on the abandoned suburban roof top in Middleton, pulling his glove down to check his wristwatch nearly every thirty seconds. Adding to his frustration was the fact that it was hot and humid, being July 4th. In the distance he could see fireworks at Middleton Park.

"Nghn... Shego said to meet her at nine o'clock... It's almost nine-fifteen—"

Drakken was interrupted suddenly by a ground-shaking explosion that knocked him off of his feet and down to his rump. Or rather, several explosions as loud pops began going off seemingly continually on the street below him.

"Gah! What...?"

Drakken blinked to awareness to see the brightness of fireworks going on directly overhead, filling the sky in a chaotic rainbow of color with sparks that showered down all around him. And then, a dark silhouette leapt over the edge of the roof lithely. Drakken didn't need to hear the mischievous cackle that accompanied the slim feminine figure and luscious mane of hair to know who it was.

"Shego—!"

"Come on Dr. D.! Plans changed a bit but I still saved the best for you!"

Drakken sputtered in confusion as he was hauled to his feet and dragged into the hover-car, which Shego swiftly piloted up and along the row of houses, many unlit as families had all gone to watch the festivities at the park. But as he glanced around he saw a flaming car on the street from which he realized many of the fireworks were emanating. And the vehicle had a very familiar shape...

"Shego...is that...?"

"Possible's car?"

Drakken blinked at the smirk on his former side-kick's face and slowly mirrored her expression. He laughed in glee, kicking his feet a few times as he looked again at the wreckage and was about to praise Shego's cleverness, when she thrust a remote toward him. He paused and took it reflexively, first blinking at the big red button and then looking up at her knowing grin.

He realized the hover-car was idling and he leaned over the side to see they were one house down from Possible's home.

"This show will be even bigger," Shego said, nodding at the remote.

Drakken cleared his throat and tried to contain his gleeful smirk.

"But pushing buttons is your job," he said teasingly.

"I figure, the honor of destroying the home of your arch-foe and your former college nemesis should be yours," Shego replied, sitting back in the driver's seat.

Drakken stopped trying to withhold his grin and let it hurt his cheeks as he stood up to get a full view of the destruction he was about enact. He began to laugh slowly with the idea of ruining Kim and James Possible's home, and as the laugh turned into a wild cackle he felt Shego stand next to him and slip her arm through his.

It was while feeling her shake with silent laughter against his side that he finally pushed the button, and the house below suddenly vanished in a blinding flash of yellow and orange. The shock-wave knocked them off their feet as had the former one, and Drakken found his rump sore again, though not as much as his front as Shego fell across his lap, still laughing. The shrill whistles of fireworks covered her voice, however, as well as his grunts of pain as she shifted not off of him but to simply lie down with her head on his thigh and stare up at him.

Drakken glanced up at the colorful flares filling the sky and then down to Shego's face, reflecting back the flickering rainbow the fireworks created. Her grin hadn't faded, but something in her eyes had grown softer. She looped her hands around his neck, and he tugged her nearer by the shoulders at the same time she tried to pull him down closer to her.

"Happy Independence Day," she crooned ironically into his ear.

Drakken chuckled again, but their laughter was ended as their lips met in a kiss, the both of them tuning out the explosions around them for the greater swell of fire in their hearts.
