Favourite Brown
My favourite brown colour… Every morning, noon or night… When I get to peek at…that soft brown hair…
Ruby blinks as little times as she could while feeling this nervousness she always does when stealing glances at her favourite person, her best friend – Kunikida Hanamaru.
Sweet golden yellow eyes meet timid emerald eyes and Ruby jolts, a hushed "Pigii" hiding behind the textbook she held upside down. At that sight, those eyes Ruby is absorbed and entranced in smiles right at her.
Ah… D-Did I do something funny? Maru-chan is grinning at me… Maybe she caught me staring and find it amusing? Pigii…
"Ru~by~cha~n~" Hanamaru sings as she leans over Ruby's desk, being in school early means the classroom only had Ruby and her, so being more forward came easier. Ruby was her comfortable place after all.
"H-Hanamaru-chan!?" Ruby squeaks, her nerves overflowing out into her speech as she shyly looked up at the girl she holds affection for.
Hanamaru's eyes closed as her smile pulls higher. "Self-studying early in the morning, zura?"
"Ah, um, I…y-yes…?" Ruby fumbles for a reply.
I-I-I can't tell her that I'm just hiding behind the textbook ever since she stepped into the classroom cos I find her so bright and pretty, right?
"Mmm…~" Hanamaru hums thoughtfully, Ruby could hear out that it was purposefully instead of simply thoughtful.
Ruby inhales deep and slow.
Awawawa…
"But your textbook is upside down?"
"Eh!? Ah… That's true! Aaahhh… I… aahh… pigiii…" The redhead's hands were shaking as she checks, realizes, lowers her blush-hiding tool to turn it upright before the realization hits again that her crush would be able to see her blush-covered face so she hastily raises it back up.
D-Did she see…? Ruby's embarrassed face… Ruby's…in-love expression…
Ruby's eyes close involuntarily as a warm hand touches the top of her head – a head pat. Ruby's eyes shoot open after, trained to the folds of Hanamaru's skirt as Ruby could not lift her head. She was doing all she can to battle the way her heart raced from the touch.
"H-H-Hanamaru…-chan…?"
"You're so cute, Ruby-chan," Hanamaru tells, a gentle and radiant smile as she patted Ruby more.
Ruby's heart sighed and raced at the same time; she was so helplessly in love and she could not do anything. She still could not find the courage to confess. It was all she could do to just be in Hanamaru's cosy presence. But it did not stop her defiant mutter, "I think you're the cuter one…"
Looking up to see Hanamaru's sunshine smile framed by those soft brown hair that rested on Hanamaru's shoulder, Ruby's breath catches again.
Ah… Maru-chan… I love you…
