We've done it. We've reached the end of the movie. Sorta.
Emily's feet hit the ground, and she stumbled, leg throbbing. But she began to run, gunshots and Indominus roars sounding behind her. The paleontologist sprinted toward the Spinosaurus skeleton, which was fake, she'd checked, around when she'd first arrived at the park. She ran between its legs, and then down one of the long, steel and concrete access tunnels.
She splashed through a puddle, and came to a halt outside of a large metal door. Emily shoved the flare in her back pocket, fumbled to turn on the walkie talkie and looked around for a security camera. She found one, and activated the walkie talkie, "Lowery, open paddock nine."
It took a second for the control room technician to respond, "What?! Why?"
Emily sighed, "Just open the damn paddock!"
"Alright, alright."
Immediately after Lowery agreed, another voice came through the walkie talkie, "Wait, Emily, what the hell are you doing?!"
Emily stared incredulously at the camera, "Sam?"
"Yeah, what are you doing?"
She sighed, he was supposed to have evacuated, "We can't kill the Indominus," Emily gestured to the paddock door with her free hand, "But she can."
"Emily, you're crazy. You'll be eaten!"
There was a series of warning beeps, and the paddock door began to raise. Emily could hear Sam shouting in disbelief at Lowery, before she tossed the walkie talkie aside, pulling out the flare. Her heart was beating fast, and her leg was throbbing.
But she could do this. She was Dr. Emily Grant. A force to be reckoned with. A survivor. And she'd be damned if she wasn't going to survive again.
The water near her feet was rippling, and the ground shook with thunderous footfalls.
The door stopped rising, and the Rex stomped into view.
Emily lit the flare, holding it out to the side, then waving it above her head to get the Rex's attention. And it worked, because Rexy roared, and Emily ran.
Back down the concrete and steel tunnel, Rexy right behind her, her footfalls nearly making Emily fall. Water splashed all over her leg as she stepped in a puddle, but she kept running, flare in hand. If she stopped now, she and all of her friends would die.
The park survivor rounded the last corner, the Spinosaurus skeleton ahead of her. And the Indominus Rex, who's head was shoved halfway into the kiosk. There wasn't a raptor in sight.
Emily ran back between the legs of the Spinosaurus, flare still held out to the side, and the rex still following. She could feel the throbbing pain of her leg more and more clearly, so she threw the flare at the Indominus. It bounced off its side, and the Indominus pulled its head out of the kiosk with a roar, directed at the Rex.
Emily's hiking boot clad foot caught on a crack in the pavement and her injured leg gave way as the Rex smashed through the Spinosaurus skeleton behind her, roaring. The park survivor curled inward, covering her ears with her hands. The fake bones rained down around Emily, narrowly missing her.
Rexy stomped past her, and Emily raised her head a little. The Indominus had backed away from the kiosk, and roared at the Rex. Briana and Lizzy's face were peering at Emily from inside the kiosk, which hopefully meant that Emily's friends were still alive.
Both dinosaurs were roaring at each other now, and Rexy surged forward, slamming into the Indominus and clamping her jaws around its neck. Rexy's tail slammed into a lamp post near Emily, knocking it over in a shower of sparks. The two massive carnivores continued to snap, claw and bite at each other.
Emily shakily began to half drag, half crawl toward some cover, knowing her leg wouldn't support her. Rexy roared in pain behind the paleontologist, now being pushed back by the Indominus. Emily pulled herself behind some fake rock display as the Indominus slammed Rexy to the ground and picked her up by the neck, slamming her head into the kiosk.
The paleontologist could hear Zach and Gray screaming in terror. Emily pushed herself upright a little more, she could see Owen pulling the boys as far out of harms way as possible. Rexy roared, and the Indominus pulled her head back out to continue the fight, leaving an opening for Emily's friends to escape. The paleontologist shouted, "Run!"
Owen pushed the Zach and Gray out of the kiosk, then Claire and jumped out himself, Lizzy and Briana right behind him. The ACU woman was the only one that still had a gun.
The Indominus slammed Rexy down directly on top of the kiosk as Emily's friends reached her, crowding around beside and behind her. Gray's shaking hands found purchase on Emily's arm once more.
Rexy roared, thrashing on the ground as the Indominus stalked toward her, moving in for the kill. It put its forearm down on Rexy, holding her in place. Its head pulled back, jaws opening to clamp down on Rexy's throat.
A raptor screech echoed down the street and Emily had never been happier to hear that noise in her life.
The whole group could see Blue racing toward them, head lowered, and claws raised, ready to attack. The raptor leapt on the Indominus with another screech, and raked her claws along its back. The Indominus stepped back, away from Rexy, and tried to pull Blue off of it. But Blue hung on tight, scratching and clawing and biting.
Rexy pushed herself upright and charged the Indominus, clamping her jaws around its neck. It occurred to Emily that this was the second time the Rex had saved her life, even if the first time was a hazy memory.
Rexy slammed the Indominus into the side of a building, Blue now balancing on the T-Rex's back. The battling dinosaurs began to move toward where they were crouched, and Briana spoke up, "We need to move."
Lizzy pulled Emily to her feet, taking most of her weight again. Owen and Claire shepherded the boys away, Briana covering them all as they ran into one of the gift shops. They ran through it, toward the Mosasaur pool, but Blue was flung through the glass. Claire yanked the boys back, but Blue scrambled to her feet and launched herself back onto the Indominus.
They were about to run out the other end when the battling dinosaurs once more got too close for comfort. Owen stretched out an arm, stopping them.
Rexy slammed the Indominus into yet another building, sparks flying and glass shattering. The T-Rex grabbed the other carnivore by the neck, swinging her around and tossing her on the ground. Blue leapt onto the Indominus' head with a high-pitched screech. Rexy continued to bite at the Indominus, before slamming it to the ground and into the fence of the Mosasaur pool.
The Indominus roared in pain and slowly got to its feet. Emily could see large pieces of metal embedded in its side, and all three dinosaurs were covered in scratches. The Indominus was the worse by far, its sides were torn to bloody ribbons.
The Indominus faced Rexy head on and roared. Rexy and Blue roared right back, but the Mosasaur had other ideas. It leapt out of the water, jaws open wide, and clamped them onto the Indominus' neck. Emily gasped as it drug the flailing Indominus back into the water.
It fell completely silent, and Gray latched onto her arm again. Zach was huddled close to Claire, who looped an arm around him as one last faint roar of the Indominus echoed up out of the water. It was dead.
Rexy slowly faced Blue, and Emily could have sworn that she almost looked tired, no, exhausted. Blue backed up a step, chittering lowly. Rexy just stared for a moment, then turned and began to walk slowly away.
Emily limped forward a step, shrugging off Lizzy, "She's choosing not to fight," her head tilted slightly to one side.
Blue watched the Rex leave, then turned to look at them. Emily backed up a into a pillar, leaning on it. The raptor's piercing gaze fixed itself on Owen. The raptor trainer stepped forward. Blue tilted her head to one side.
Owen shook his head. Blue turned her gaze to Lizzy, who murmured, sounding a little sad, "Sorry Blue…"
Blue glanced away, then back at them before slowly running away, her speed increasing as she ran back down Main Street. Owen walked down the steps, watching her leave. Lizzy followed him, softly asking, "Think she'll make it on her own?"
Owen was silent, but Blue screeched one last time. A sound Emily recognized as one raptors used when calling for their pack members. Gray hesitantly went after Lizzy, Zach following a second later and then Claire. Emily slowly sank down to the ground, using the pillar as support.
She'd done it. She'd survived again. And this time, she'd helped others to survive as well. The survivor could feel tears of relief forming in the corners of her eyes.
"You alright Dr. Grant?" Briana asked.
Emily scrubbed a tear off her cheek, "Yeah."
Claire cleared her throat a little, voice shaky, "I had Lowery call in a helicopter earlier, we can leave on that."
"He's still in the control room." Emily's voice was nowhere near level, "Sam's there too."
Lizzy nodded, "I'll take the mobile unit and go get them, you guys wait here."
"I'll come with, this place isn't exactly safe." Briana checked her gun, heading down the steps. Lizzy nodded and they set off.
Claire and Owen began softly talking, Zach and Gray meandering back over to sit on the steps near Emily. The survivor rested her forehead on her hands. She'd actually survived. Her dad was probably out of his mind with worry, and he'd probably called Ellie. Actually, it was probably all over the news, which meant Ian would know, and Tim, Lex, Billy… Emily was going to have to make a lot of phone calls.
"Dr. Grant?" Gray's quiet voice startled Emily.
She lifted her head, "Yeah?"
"How were you so brave back there? With the T-Rex?"
"To be honest kiddo, I don't know." Zach was watching her now too. "I just knew I couldn't let you guys die."
"Oh. Well, it looked so cool." A little excitement crept into Gray's voice.
Emily smiled.
It was over.
I literally cannot believe that I've actually gotten this far. So thank you to everyone who's read, reviewed, followed and favorited this fic. There will be an epilogue after this, then I'm probably going to focus on the prequel, and Jurassic Park, of which I've posted one chapter. After that, onward to post this movie and Fallen Kingdom!
