Chapter 2
"Katherine happened."
——
Bonnie entered the wedding venue in a rush. The barn was almost in shambles; there were pieces of glass shattered everywhere, fairy lights squashed on the ground, and people. Lots of wounded people. Bonnie looked frantically for her friend.
"Damon?" She yelled.
There were no signs of him anywhere. Only some gemini coven members scattered here and there on the ground, and Stefan wounded in the middle. Bonnie rushed to the vampire as soon as she saw him, her heels clicking on the floor.
"Stefan? What happened?" She kneeled beside him and checked for any injuries.
"Bonnie, you have to get out of here." Stefan coughed and held his bleeding shoulder.
Kai entered shortly after Bonnie and let his eyes roam around the room. He recognized some familiar faces, although they aged considerably since he hadn't seen them. Kai could see from the corner of his eye that his father was making his way towards him with quick and angry steps. He had a deep frown on his face as he stopped in front of Kai.
"You...You escaped again, didn't you?" His father pointed an accusing finger.
"Hello to you too, dad." Kai tilted his head. "What, not happy to see me? What happened in here anyway?" He gestured innocently around the room.
Joshua had some bruises on him that suggested he got wounded pretty badly, either in a fight or in an explosion of some kind. His furrowed eyebrows were making his forehead wrinkles even more noticeable. This was the first time Kai laid eyes on his father in 18 years-except for the wrinkles, he didn't change one bit, Kai thought.
"Something we couldn't prevent. But we will fix it." Joshua glared at Kai who seemed unaffected. Some of the other guests at last seemed to regain consciousness and slowly got to their feet.
"Where is sissy anyway? We wouldn't want her to get hurt, her being pregnant with future gemini leaders and all." Kai smirked and tried to show some faux concern while Joshua continued to stare.
Bonnie helped Stefan get to his feet. Thankfully, he didn't seem to have many injuries, just a nasty one on his right shoulder.
"Where is everyone? Jo and Alaric?"
"Jo had to hide since she's pregnant." He winced in pain as he finally managed to stand up with Bonnie holding onto him. "Damon is at the hospital with Elena. Katherine hurt her. Bonnie, listen-"
Bonnie cut him off. "Elena got hurt? Oh, no. Is it bad?"
"Elena this, Elena that. Don't you ever get tired of her?" A deep feminine voice boomed from the entrance. Everyone turned to look at her.
"Katherine." Bonnie let go of Stefan and turned to face her. "How are you here?"
Katherine smiled. "You think hell is enough to contain me?" She stepped closer to Bonnie. "To stop me from going for what I really want?"
Stefan stepped in between them.
"Leave her alone."
"Stefan." Katherine fixated her piercing gaze on him. "You know I didn't want to hurt you, right?" She smiled sweetly.
The doppelganger didn't look as if she just came back from the dead-in fact, she looked better than half the people in the barn. Her dark curls were efortlessly flowing down her back and her clothes didn't seem tattered at all. Bonnie even had to wonder if she stopped by at a salon before she showed up here. Ironically, dying again made her look even better than before.
Kai finally stepped in, towering over the doppelganger. "Yeah, sorry to interrupt, Miss Evil-Twin," he mocked her, "but you caused quite the havoc here. Not that I particularly care, but the one who's going to kill the gemini coven should be me."
Kai narrowed his eyes at the doppelganger who only now seemed to notice him. Bonnie grabbed Kai's arm in reprimand, stopping the staring contest that started between those two. The warlock looked down at Bonnie's hand holding him, when suddenly a sharp pain shot through him.
"None of that is going to happen." Joshua spoke as several members of the gemini coven circled the four and began chanting in latin. It happened all of a sudden. Kai, Katherine and Bonnie held their heads as a sharp pain continued to spread through their bodies. Bonnie gritted her teeth as she tried not to let out any screams.
Stefan looked in concern at Bonnie then looked back at Joshua, confused.
"What are you doi-" Stefan didn't even have time to ask a question. He was pushed aside by an invisible force as the other three doubled over themselves from pain. Stefan landed outside the circle and clutched his aching shoulder again.
Joshua spoke to Kai in a deep voice. "You being free is a mistake that I'm going to correct." Kai was now writhing on the ground in pain. Joshua then looked at Katherine who was in the same position as the warlock. "The gemini coven was supposed to protect the doppelgangers, but that's not the case anymore." He finally looked at Bonnie. "As for you, Miss Bennett. It's solely your fault that Kai escaped so many times."
As the chanting became stronger, Stefan got himself off the ground and used his vampire speed to get Bonnie out of there, grabbing her wrist in a hurry. But as he did so, a white light suddenly engulfed the four of them.
——
Katherine was the first to wake up out of all four of them. She was laying face first on the pavement when she opened her eyes, and groaned in pain. The doppelganger massaged her temples. Katherine felt as if hundreds of needles were piercing through her brain.
She looked to her right only to notice Stefan holding onto Bonnie, both of them unconscious, same as the young warlock laying beside them.
She rose to her feet confused. When she looked around, she could see the barn and the cars of the people who attended the wedding parked near it, except...there were no people.
Katherine inhaled a deep breath as she felt the other three begin to stir.
"Where the hell are we?"

As I was writing this, I noticed how much I used to love the Stefonnie ship. Anyways, thank you guys for your reviews and I'm waiting to hear your thoughts on this new chapter!
