Harry and Draco need to be roommates before they can work together as Aurors, and everyone knows what happens when those two are stuck in a room together

Harry lay on the beat up sofa in the one bedroom flat, staring at the ceiling. It was difficult being around Draco, it always had been. He was trying his best to be the better man, but the Slytherin had always known how to get under his skin. Draco went out, and Harry didn't even bother to ask where he was going. It was kind of funny, in a sad way, when Harry realized that his feelings for Draco were not what he had previously expected them to be. He had fallen for the idiot during Auror training, and that should have been the end of it, except that Draco couldn't keep from antagonizing Alastor Moody, so they got stuck as partners. Harry watched the door swing open to reveal the subject of his confusion.

"Where have you been?" Harry asked, trying to sound like he didn't care, but he was curious and a little jealous of not being in the loop.

"I got food," Draco replied, showing plastic bags with groceries. Harry was taken aback, was Draco actually taking Moody's challenge seriously?

The aim of the challenge was to see if they could co-exist, potentially in a non-magical environment, and manage to work together despite their differences. Sometimes Harry wondered why he needed to be the one used as "Malfoy's punishment", and then he wondered if Moody knew more than he let on. Perhaps not as much a punishment as one would expect.

"Um, Draco?" Harry started again, watching as the man not only put the bags on the counter but then proceeded to pack things in the tiny fridge.

"Yeah?" Draco asked, looking up from a bag. Harry's heart fluttered as he took in the domestic sight of the blond Slytherin with a bottle of milk in one hand.

"Do you need a hand?" Harry asked, getting up from the sofa.

Draco nodded. "Thank you."

The two of them unpacked in silence, tension growing between them. They both reached for a bag of potato crisps, and their fingers met and it was like lightning sparked between them. The small white kitchen was suddenly very warm. Draco stepped away quickly. "Sorry," he muttered.

"Why have you been so nice to me?" Harry asked. He was still trying to tame his rapidly beating heart.

Draco blushed. His pale cheeks made it immediately noticeable, but Harry's mind could only focus on the redness of his cheeks, and blurted out. "Are you hot?"

Draco let out a snort-like laugh. "Is it so hard to believe I've grown up?"

"Well, you did give Moody hell," Harry responded. It took a moment for him to realize that his second question remained unanswered.

"A Slytherin always has a plan, Harry," Draco said. Harry's name on his lips sounded like heaven.

"You mean you…" Harry trailed off.

Draco took a step closer to him, putting the crisps down on the counter. Harry could feel Draco's breath on his face. He smelled like chocolate chip cookies. Then Draco did something completely out of character, and kissed him. Harry's brain took a while to respond, but once he did, Draco sighed in relief.

"Turns out we can work together, after all," Draco said smugly.
