Esme POV

"Edward! I can't believe you're siding with Rosalie on this. I couldn't even see it coming. you're not making rational decisions right now!!!" trilled an exasperated Alice.

"Wait, what?" Rosalie hissed, still with her teeth bared in Edward's face.

"Children Please!" Esme begged eying her favorite dining room table beneath Rosalie, who came across it to get in Edward's face.

"How dare you, Edward? Bringing that stinking stupid human here into our lives. we have to move, start over and you didn't even slip up. No, we are moving because you're going to break up with her? Over a couple drops of blood in front of a hungry vampire. WHAT DID YOU EXPECT?"

"I know," mumbled a forlorn Edward.

"Now I have to hear that you side with me from Alice of all people. I can't believe this first time in 90 years you take my side and it's too late. I'm going to pack." Rosalie huffs and storms off. Emmett a puppy on her heels.

"Edward, we can't just leave," Esme admonishes.

"Oh, yeah 'Mom'... like we could just leave after 2 of your accidents or 6 of Rosalies? Or 3 of Emmetts? Or the times when Carlisle made You, Rosalie, AND Emmet? Why not this time?" This hurt Esme and yet, he was right. Why couldn't they leave? Why was Carlisle reluctant to move this time... she knew he could hear her thoughts and immediately tried to switch of her inner voice.

"Carlisle is only Dr available, he signed a 6 year contract and there is a hospital full of illness and injury. Not to mention your soon to be Ex girlfriend who is a frequent visitor, even without your interference. It is not this towns fault that you can not handle the pressure of relationship with this Human. They shouldn't suffer too." Esme glared at her sometimes son.

"Her name is BELLA. and you know something is different this time." Edward flared.

"If you can't handle me improperly addressing her name, how on this earth, will you handle separating yourself from her?" emplored Esme

"I don't know but I can't stay. I'm leaving tomorrow after school." Edward walked off to get a clean shirt for Bella to change out of her blood soaked ones. "I suggest you come with me if you're going to continue thinking Carlisle would stay here. This town would be more upset if I was a runaway and that you, as a mother didn't care. More upset than if I told them what we ate. I know your tired of being being small town Dr's wife."

"Shh, Edward! That's not fair. Get out of my Head." Esme sighed and looked over her shoulder, back at the closed kitchen door.

"It's not just that. I think you and Carlisle should take some time to talk with each other away from us. You can trust me on this, I respect you both, so I won't share more, but you should talk" Edward said, looking at Esme with a pleading look as he went up the stairs.

Esme returned to the kitchen. Holding her breath, ashamed that she had to so much as even consider her reaction to Bellas blood. There they were, having a quiet conversation that Esme could hear without straining.

A dawning realization hit Bella, she scoffed and said, "That's it then, Edward is worried about my soul?" although she was dismissive at first, the gravity of the sentence hit her midway. She was solem and thoughtful by the end. Looking up at Carlisle with her big brown eyes she began to tear up.

"Am I hurting you Bella, do you need more pain medicine while I work on this glass? There's quite a bit in your hand." Carlisle asked.

"Yes it hurts, but no, it's not that. That's a hurt I'm used to." Bella lauughed but with a sadness to her voice. "It's, well..." Tears ran freely now. "It's that, I dont know if Edward's right. I just feel like I belong with your family, and here Edward is worried about my soul. That's a risk I'm willing to take, but with Edward, I know that's not a fight I'll win. Every time I turn around he's being extravagant about our relationship while at the same time, trying to say good bye. If I lose him, I lose this entire world and Life I never knew was possible. I feel like I belong here, Edward or no Edward." She buried her face in her hands, embarrassed, another weak laugh as the tears contibued to roll.

Carlisle moved from the chair he was sitting in. he knelt infant of Bella. Talking to her more softly he attempted to comfort her. Esme felt a spasm of anger roll over her her muscles breifly tensed and her stomach felt like it was in knots.

Anger? Was that right? Did she breathe? Mentally checking over her body functions, she was not thristy, her venom was in check, this was not from breathing. Looking over the scene again, there was Carlisle and Bella, Bella covered in blood. It must be the ease at which Carlisle tended to her and comforted her. Esme wished she could be there for Bella. Was Esme jealous of Carlisle?

Then it happened. As Esme turned her attention outward, back to the scene in front of her, Carlisle reached out a comforting hand to lift Bellas head. He gently swiped the tears away from her eyes and leaned in to hold her. Bella sagged onto him sobbing. She needed a hug of comfort. The girl was distraught, It was innocent enough. Yet Esme was incensed. She was full of rage and felt betrayed and angry at herself for feeling any of these things. She removed her fingers from the doorframe, leaving claw marks from where she held it so tight.

At the sound of her taking bits of doorframe with her, Carlisle head snapped up. Still with armfuls of Bella he looked to Esme searchingly. Esme placed a small timid smile on her face and briefly waved, excusing herself.

She bolted from the kitchen. She ran. She knew what she was jealous of but she wouldn't dare think it. Not with her in his arms and not with Edward in hearing distance. Could she get away before Edward heard her? She couldn't dare think of the aftermath.
