Dyson lead Kenzi through a maze of barrels and boxes before pausing to push open a large wooden door. It opened into a surprising large room with a fireplace, a couple of comfortable sofas and armchairs and two of the walls were covered in bookshelves that were stacked with books. A solid chest stood in the corner. A second door in the room lead to other rooms, Kenzi assumed.

Dyson pulled her into further into the room before turning around to slam the door behind them and then locking it to leave them in their own private world. "You have your own room here?" Kenzi asked as she surveyed the room. She was slightly envious, imagine having 24/7access to all of Trick's fabulous booze and trinkets whenever you wanted.

"A suite actually." Dyson replied "This is the lounge room, the door back there leads to our bedroom and a private bathroom. And don't get any ideas of helping yourself to anything in the bar."

Kenzi had a brief smile when Dyson said "our bedroom", he wasn't even aware that he had said it. Kenzi was reminded again that Dyson was a good guy. Now she knew why she had always been Team Dyson even when he'd done something really stupid or upset Bo but she ended up pouting slightly over the ban on swiping Trick's alcohol.

Dyson walked over to the fireplace "I'll get a fire going to warm this place up. We're still under the Dal so it can be cold in here."

Kenzi plopped herself down on one of the sofas and watched Dyson set to his task. She enjoyed watching him, his mind and body focused on a physical task. He was rather hot when he was like that. "It doesn't matter what he's doing...he's hot!" Kenzi thought. "This must be what he was like back home before he became a lone wolf but maybe even then he made places feel like his own."

Within minutes a roaring fire was dancing about the fireplace, throwing twisting shadows into the room. Dyson came over and sat in the corner of the sofa opposite Kenzi. He looked at her curled up, her eyes focused on the flames.

Kenzi" he said softly, she swung her head around to face him. "Come here." he opened his arms to her and she scuttled across the distance. With her back against his chest, her body between his legs. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her to him.

A silence descended upon them as they sat watching the hypnotic flames, each one caught up in their own thoughts about what they had just heard from Trick and the Morrigan and where any of their choices were going to leave them.

Breathing in Kenzi's scent calmed Dyson so he could think more clearly. He knew what he wanted, he wanted to protect Kenzi at all costs but he knew that this needed to be her decision and she wouldn't appreciate him trying to make the decision for her. He pulled her a little closer kissing the top of her head gently.

Kenzi sat feeling the warmth of Dyson seeping into her, his arms wrapped around her keeping her safe. She could feel his chest rise and fall as he took deep breaths trying to calm himself. Kenzi could feel the odd surge of panic rise within herself but they are anchor that Dyson physically provided meant she didn't go off spinning off in a million different directions.

She eased herself back into his arms, appreciating the fact that they didn't need to talk about what was happening. She knew he wanted her safe and that he'd leave with her if needs be but she didn't want to leave. Their family were here and she didn't want to leave them, she'd left too many others along the way. She held her breath trying to study herself for what was to come.

The pair remained nestled together on the sofa, the fire crackling, sending up small sparks with soft pops. They found themselves in a drowsy stupor, caught somewhere between being asleep in each other's arms and being completely awake.

A soft rapping at the door caused Dyson to fight his way towards consciousness. Kenzi was still sleeping in his arms, he didn't want her disturbed so he manage to extract himself from her and made his way over to the door.

He pulled the door open a fraction to be greeted by one of the barmaids carrying a tray of steaming food and drinks for them both. "Thanks Maeve" he said quietly trying not to wake Kenzi taking the tray from her. She smiled briefly at him "Trick says if you need anything else, just let us know someone will bring it to you."

Dyson nodded then slowly retreated into the room. Closing the door behind him he walked over to the table and deposited the tray with a minimum of noise.

The delicious smell had however wafted over Kenzi's way, bringing her from his slumber. She mumbled something and so Dyson turned in her direction "Hungry Milady?"

"Yep D-man! And whatever that is, it smells delish. She slid down onto the floor closer to the fire shivering slightly.

"You cold?" Dyson asked, concerned for her.

"A little."

Dyson placed the tray down and disappeared for a minute before returning with a large blanket for her. He wrapped it lovingly around her shoulders in an effort to keep her warm. The need to talk about the Morrigan's visit was still not a priority. The nourishment of her body was a priority and Trick's stew would certainly nourish your body as well as some cement pylons into place.

Dyson set a steaming bowl into Kenzi's hand, as well as a crusty roll perfect for mopping up the thick gravy and leftover bits. He took his own off the tray and dropped it on the sofa. He sat down next to her on the floor, his back against the sofa.

Kenzi held the bowl up under her nose and inhaled the aroma towards her. "Oh my...Trick's stew is the best. I don't think I could eat a thing but my mouth is just watering at the smell of it."

Dyson laughed at her "The only time I think you stopped eating was just after the "soup incident."

"Aaarrrggghhh don't remind me! I think you'd know never to remind me of that day." Kenzi grimaced.

Dyson looked over at her, studying her profile carefully "You do know that's one of my favourite days." he said quietly.

Kenzie met his eyes. "No" she whispered back, realising the magnitude of his statement. "Why?" she ventured.

"Because...because." he swallowed the words, not able to fully express all the emotions that he had felt that day. It was the first time that it had crossed his mind that his feelings for this human weren't brotherly or purely platonic. The idea at she was going to bleed out in front of him and he wouldn't be able to do a damn thing about it, him had terrified him.

"Why?" Kenzi asked again, with more feeling in that one little word.

"Because.." he started again before drawing a deep breath "I nearly lost you that day. You nearly died and I couldn't stop it. I realised that I had feelings for you and it didn't make sense because I was supposed to be in love with Bo." Kenzi gave him a smile. "But when you wanted me to stay with you it gave me a glimmer of hope that something" he shrugged his shoulders "well this could happen between us."

Kenzi put her bowl of food down beside her and then dragging the blanket with her crawled her way over to Dyson. "D-man" she said as she wiggled her way onto his lap "I always had feelings for you that's why when I thought I was dying I wanted you, so that maybe I could tell you in the last minute of my life," she placed her hands on either side of his face, feeling the scratch of his beard, "that I wanted you. But this is so much better because I get to show you." She guided his face to hers and placed a hungry kiss on his lips.
