A/N: This is my first ever fanfiction, so I do hope that you enjoy it. This is technically a crossover featuring some characters from my own original story, "The Saness Chronicles: Rebirth," which I am currently writing at the same time that I'm writing this.

Life is meaningless. It is nothing more than a time for us to suffer. Those who are grateful for their lives are fooling themselves and all those around them. They fully believe that all of their choices in life matter, when in fact nothing does. Neither this world nor the universe has any need for us. Hell, it would probably be better off without us. Just as we all are born only to die someday, so too will the universe. Of course, it won't die in the same way people die. Instead, the universe will expand at such a rate where not even light could reach the planets. Everything will be cold and dark, and soon enough after that, all that the universe will be made up of will be black holes. And there is nothing that an insignificant species like us humans can do to stop it. So why? Why do we go on with our lives in constant suffering? Because we have become slaves to society without even realizing it. Those who are in power do everything they can to stay at the top while we work for them out of necessity for the things we need to survive. Maybe I am wrong, but the way I see it our lives here on Earth should be spent simply being morally good people and doing things for the sake of enjoying life, not worrying about paychecks and bills. Anyway, enough about that. Now my review of my time in high school so far. It has been a living hell for me. While I do admit that there are at least some barely tolerable students in the school, I will also say that I hate every single person here. All just a bunch of normies wasting their time forming superficial relationships and enjoying their oh so great youth. They lie, cheat, steal, drink, and do many other things just for the sake of making their youths more exciting. If you don't agree with them or see things the way they do, then you are considered a threat. Sadly, it seems that this is the reality no matter where I go. I've come to hate many things, and the word genuine would be amongst them. There is no such thing as genuine. It's just a stupid word made to fool people like me. Going back to my schoolmates, I suppose I'm just glad that they do try to avoid me, whether it's due to my intimidating presence or... Nah, it probably is just my intimidating presence that steers others away from me. Either way, I truly believe that those normies should just go and burn in Hell.

"You should be the one to go and burn in Hell. What even is this? And don't even get me started on yours, Hikigaya."

"Funny, already been there and it was still too cold for my tastes," I mumbled under my breath. My name is Nino Andel and I am currently in the Faculty Room with a classmate of mine. Hikigaya is his name, apparently. Reminds me of someone else I know... knew, actually. Anyway, we are facing our homeroom teacher, Hiratsuka Shizuka, after being called in regarding an essay we submitted. What a waste of time and energy, honestly.

"Excuse me?" Hiratsuka-sensei looked at me looking like she was ready to punch me hard in the gut. Don't even think about it, I don't want to hurt you... Or maybe I do. I know there's a part of me that's a tad bit sadistic, although I've never hurt a teacher before.

"Nothing sensei," I say as dully as humanly possible. "That is my essay on my reflection of my first year of high school. I just thought that it would be best to answer the prompt as truthfully as possible. Don't even think about making me rewrite it because I won't. Also, if we were in America you would surely get in some trouble for hitting a student, let alone touching one."

Hikigaya snorted. Good, because with how quiet he was being I was seriously starting to wonder if he was even real or just a part of my imagination. Perhaps I thought I was seeing Her-... that guy again.

Hiratsuka-sensei's eyes snapped to Hikigaya. "What's so funny, eh? Your essay might be a little better than his, but that doesn't change the fact that it was still quite disgusting to look at. Seriously, what is it with you two?"

"Er... Like he said," Hikigaya said while pointing to me, "we just thought that it would be best to answer truthfully. Just thought it was a bit funny how we think in similar ways."

Hiratsuka just pinched the bridge of her nose while shaking her head, leaving me and Hikigaya to our own thoughts. After a few more moments of awkward silence, she finally looked up at us with a thoughtful look in her eyes.

"I won't make you rewrite your essays, but you still need to do something to make up for them," she said as she got up from her seat and walked to the room's exit. "Follow me."

For the first time, Hikigaya and I looked at each other properly, his rotten, fish eyes meeting my dead, sharp ones before we followed after our teacher.

After walking to the school's special building and navigating through the halls, the three of us found ourselves in front of a classroom. Weird. What do we need to do here? Before I can even ask, sensei slides open the door to reveal what's inside. The room seems like it is used for storage since there is a multitude of desks and tables attacked near the back. While I can't help but notice this, what really catches my attention is the room's sole occupant; a girl with long black hair and beautiful blue eyes sitting on a chair and reading a novel of some kind. Her beauty alone tells me that I should know who she is, and yet I have no idea who she may be. Then again I've never actually taken the time to get to know my schoolmates, so it's not too much of a surprise. I glanced at my classmate and saw that he seemed to recognize her.

"Hiratsuka-sensei," the girl spoke, drawing my attention back to her. "I think I told you to knock on the door before entering."

"It's because you won't respond even if I knock," Hiratsuka-sensei counters.

"That's because I have no time to respond before you walk in," the girl counters back. She then turns her gaze upon Hikigaya and me. "Also, who are these tw- who's the one with fish eyes standing around like a dumbass?"

Hikigaya flinched at that remark. So she knows me, eh?

"He's Hikigaya. They both volunteered to join," Hiratsuka started explaining.

"I'm Hikigaya Hachiman from Class 2-F," Hikigaya introduced himself before realizing something. "Wait, what do you mean by join?"

Sensei looks to both of us before continuing, "As punishment for those detestable essays, you are ordered to join this club. I will not take any questions, objections, protests, or any form of complaint. You'd better sit down and reflect on what you've done."

"Already treated like the bad guys, huh?" I said. Sensei's eyes snapped to me. Is she threatening me with her gaze? After a second, she turned back to the girl.

"As you can see, these two are corrupted to the core, so I want you to fix their rotten personalities," Sensei finally stated her true reason for bringing us here.

"... I would have refused if Andel-kun wasn't also joining. Hikigaya-kun's eyes make me fear for my safety," the girl said after a moment of thinking. She's afraid of Hikigaya's eyes but not mine? Not sure what to think about that. Should I be flattered or disappointed that my eyes aren't intimidating to someone?

"If that's the punishment then I'll take it," I say. "It's not like I have anything else to do anyway. And don't worry, I'll keep an eye on Hikigaya for ya, sensei." Hikigaya looks at me with a look of betrayal, which I return with a slight smile. Hiratsuka nods at me before turning for the exit.

"Great! I'll leave you three to it, then," she says as she closes the clubroom's door. As soon as the door shuts, I waste no time getting a chair and placing it a few feet away from the girl. Hikigaya, seeing what I was doing, did the same. Although I preferred to sit away from everyone else, I got the feeling that Hikigaya and the girl would start arguing if given the opportunity so I consciously chose to place my seat where I was certain would be between them. I was right, as Hikigaya placed his seat to my right, opposite of the girl... I need to learn her name if I am going to be a member of this club.

"Yo," I say, catching her attention. "If you don't mind my asking, what is your name? If I am going to be a member of this club, I should know who I'm working with." As soon as I finished saying that, I noticed out of the corner of my eye that Hikigaya was looking at me with shock. What? Is this girl famous or something? Well, excuse me for not being that informed.

"You... don't know who I am? What a surprise that is, for sure," the girl says. "I can tell that even a nobody like Hikigaya-kun knew who I was, but then again, someone such as yourself, who's always at the top, has no need to know about those below him, right?" I had no idea how to answer that. Sure, I may be the top student here at Sobu, but that's not really why I neglected to learn the names of those around me. I just didn't have much of a reason to. She continued, "My name is Yukinoshita Yukino, from class 2-J. It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Nino Andel of class 2-F."

"Likewise, and no, I didn't know your name because as an American who moved here last year, I still have trouble fitting in, and instead of trying to get to know my schoolmates, I thought it better to just keep to myself," I lied as naturally as I breathed. "I apologize for the misunderstanding."

Yukino gave me a look of understanding before speaking again, "I see. So where in America did you live, Andel-kun?"

"Texas. Please, drop the honorifics, Yukino. And just call me Nino. My Japanese may be very good, but I still have trouble referring to others by their last names," I say before turning to Hikigaya, who was reading a light novel. "You too, He- Hachiman."

"Huh? Oh, sure."

"Fine, I'll accept your request, And- Nino," Yukino said, a light blush on her face. Maybe I shouldn't have asked her for that if it's gonna make her uncomfortable. Well, no going back now.

Hachiman closed his light novel and looked to Yukino. "Yukinoshita, what exactly does this club do?"

Yukino first turned to me and asked if I had any idea what the club's purpose was, to which I shook my head no. She then turned back to Hachiman and said, "People who give something that others lack because of their kindness are called volunteers. In the same way that a developed country can provide welfare for those who have no homes to return to, female students can offer help to unpopular male students. Thank you for joining the Service Club."

...

"Pfffft-HahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

I couldn't help but laugh at how she casually dissed Hachiman. I could hear both of them asking if I was alright over the sound of my laughter, but I couldn't answer because of how hard I was laughing. Fuck, why am I laughing this much? It wasn't even THAT funny, right? Dammit, now I'm starting to scare myself. Did something happen last night that I wasn't aware of? Who the hell had the audacity to place a curse on me and get away with it?

Suddenly the classroom door slides open, Hiratsuka-sensei rushing in.

"I came as fast as I cou-... Now, this is a rare sight to see," she says while staring at me with a stupid grin adorning her face. "Nino doesn't ever really laugh or smile, like ever, so when I heard him I couldn't help but think you two were tickling him or something. Apparently, he's very ticklish."

"And how would you know that, sensei?" Yukino asked.

"Because I told her," I said. The truth wasn't exactly that I was ticklish, but rather that some... experiences have left me very sensitive to touch. "Ever since I was little I could never stand people tickling me. Even just someone running their hand against my arm makes me react strongly."

"...Are you really that sensitive to touch?" Hachiman asked with disbelief. I simply nodded to him in reply before turning to Yukino.

"Anyway, so what you were saying earlier is that this Service Club of yours is meant to help students who need help with different things?"

"Precisely. Students come here with requests and if we deem them worthy of help then we accept them. However, we do not solve their problems for them, we give them the tools needed to solve it themselves."

"I see. So we don't feed a starving man fish, we teach him how to fish so that he could feed himself," I said in understanding. I then turned back to Hachiman and asked, "Did you understand that, Hachiman?"

"Yeah, of course I did. What do you take me for?" He said in a bothered tone.

"Alright, alright. Let's not get into an argument here, shall we?" Hiratsuka-sensei stepped in before anything else could be said. "It's good to see you all having normal conversations. I have an idea! To make things more interesting, let's do what they always do in shoujo manga and have a contest!"

Hachiman and I just shake our heads while Yukino looks confused. Never read manga, eh?

"So what does this contest of yours entail?" I ask.

"Whoever can fulfill the most requests will be able to ask anything of the losers."

"A-anything?" Hachiman blushes.

Yukino covers up her modest chest. "I refuse. Hikigaya poses a danger to my virginity. And besides, it's nearly impossible to beat Nino in anything."

"Hey! It's not like you have anything to offer, washing board! And it's not like that's all I think about. There's also... world peace?" Hikigaya yells out.

"Just because I always manage to get the best scores academically and do really well in sports doesn't mean that there are some things I am bad at," I say. "In fact, although I love to help people, I consider myself very bad at it."

"Are you scared of losing, Yukinoshita?" Hiratsuka-sensei asks. I swear if that's what actually gets her to comply.

"...Fine."

Seriously?!

"Then it's settled. I'll decide who the winner is, so everything will be based on my own opinion. I'll start sending you troubled students soon," Hiratsuka-sensei says as she walks towards the exit. "Good luck."

After she left, we all packed our own things and went our separate ways. As I was walking to the exit, I got a notification on my phone.

...

"Time to go to work, I suppose."

Hikigaya's POV

As I was walking back home with my trusty bike in hand, I heard some strange noises and an orange glow coming from around the corner I was approaching. I knew from the news that ever since last year a strange group has been moving around and causing a lot of crime, but I've never seen them before. This could possibly put me in great danger, but I was curious to see what was going on. I arrived at the corner of the street and saw...

The entire street was a horrifying mess. The buildings were on fire and bloody corpses were lying around everywhere. Cloaked figures stood in a half-circle. And facing them with a sword in hand, a single cloaked figure.

The Demon Hunter.
