NARRATOR: Diana

JUNE 11, 2067 – TODAYLAND, NORTH MONTANA, USA

My alarm went off in my bed, and I turned over to other side to shut it off. Then I just laid in bed with bliss. Today was my wedding day, and words cannot describe how excited I was to marry the love of my life.

I heard knocking on the door, and I got out of bed to answer it. I opened it to reveal my maid of honor, Emma Hawkins, who was already in her silky red bathrobe.

"Happy Wedding Day, Diana!" Emma said excitedly as she handed me my breakfast.

"Emma, you didn't have to do this," I told her with a grateful smile.

"Your mom insisted. She wanted you to have a good breakfast before you walk down the aisle."

"May we come in?" Maria Flores asked, her head poking in the door.

"Come on in, ladies!" I answered enthusiastically, and Maria, Myra Khandaar, Jade Ali, Amy Jenkins, and Amelia Wheaton all piled into my room and on the bed, and we all ate our breakfast with excitement.

"Are you excited, Diana?" Jade asked.

"I'm so excited," I answered.

"I can't wait to see what you look like in your wedding dress," Myra said with a big smile on her face. "And I can't wait to see the look on Berethor's face when he sees you."

"He is going to be dazzled," Amelia chimed in. "He's been talking about this day for weeks now, and it's finally here."

"Oh! That reminds me!" I exclaimed.

I set my breakfast down on my bed, and I walked over to the dresser and opened a drawer. I took out six gift bags and gave one to each of my bridesmaids.

"This is my little 'thank you' gift for standing with me on my wedding day," I explained with a thankful smile.

"Diana, these are cute!" Maria exclaimed, holding up her red phone case with the letters 'MF' embroidered on them.

"They truly are!" Emma chimed in, revealing hers with the letters 'EH' on them.

"Auntie Tallie inspired me to make them," I explained, and all of the ladies looked at me with shock on their faces.

"You made these?" Amy asked, holding up hers with the letters 'AJ' on them.

"Amy, I love yours," Myra said, revealing hers with her initials, 'MK.' "Because your boyfriend's name is Ajay."

"Oh my lanta," I replied, cracking up laughing. "Now that is funny. Maybe you and Ajay truly were meant to be together, Amy."

"With mine, I feel like I could speak German," Jade chimed in, holding up hers with her initials, 'JA.'

"Mine is so cute," Amelia said, showing me hers with the letters 'AW.'

"Awww," we all said.

"See what I mean?" Amelia replied, and we burst out laughing as I finished my breakfast.

"Well, Diana's done eating!" Maria exclaimed happily.

"Which means it's time to get her ready for her big day!" Emma chimed in excitedly, and we piled in for a group hug.

We heard a 'click' behind me, and we all turned to see our wedding photographer, Autumn Porter, behind us.

"I'm glad you could make it!" I said happily, and Autumn and I gave each other a hug.

"Congratulations, Diana," Autumn replied. "The big day has finally arrived. Are you excited to be married?"

"Yes, I am!"

"Autumn, am I noticing a little bump on you?" Myra asked excitedly.

"It's that obvious?" Autumn answered, rubbing her belly.

"Congratulations!" we all told her excitedly.

"When are you due?" I asked her with a big smile.

"The baby's due in November," Autumn answered with a smile. "Wes is so excited about becoming a dad."

"You are going to be an amazing mother, Autumn," Emma told her before checking the time. "Oh my gosh! We've been standing here ten minutes and we're still in our bathrobes!"

"Emma, you're turning into me," Maria replied with a smirk. "But I agree. We do need to help Diana get ready."

"I hope you don't mind if I stay with you guys," Autumn chimed in. "But I may duck out and take pictures of the guys, too."

"Go ahead and see how Berethor's doing," I told her. "We might be a while."

Autumn came back an hour later just after my bridesmaids had changed into their dresses. All of my bridal party wore floor-length A-line red dresses. Maria, Myra, Amy, Jade, and Amelia had one strap over their left shoulders while there was no strap or sleeve on their right shoulders. Emma had her dress designed like mine and opted for an illusion neckline.

"Hello, ladies!" I heard my godmother come in.

"Tallulah!" the girls exclaimed excitedly.

"You all look amazing!" Tallulah said, carrying my wedding dress and another bag.

"Is that her wedding dress?" Myra asked in awe.

"Yes, it is! And now the time has come when you will help me put it on the bride."

I turned toward the door and saw my mom walking in, wearing a red tea dress with a red jacket over it. Her hair was already up in a braided crown. I was still wearing my red bathrobe.

"Mom."

"Diana."

We walked toward each other and hugged each other as Autumn took the picture.

"Mom, you look breathtaking," I complimented her.

"I can't believe my daughter is getting married today," Mom replied, tears forming in her eyes.

"Mom, don't make me cry!"

"I'm sorry, I get very emotional at weddings. I was emotional at mine. But I'm sure my being breathtaking will not top you being breathtaking."

"Well, Karena, ladies, let's get Diana dressed up!" Tallulah said excitedly, and I started to take off my bathrobe to reveal my white tank top and white shorts.

We worked together to help me put my dress on, and it was the most beautiful dress I had ever worn in my life. It was a floor-length white A-line dress with an illusion neckline with silver butterfly decorations all over the dress and a silver belt. I held the hands of all of my bridesmaids while my godmother and my mother worked together to button my dress.

Then, I sat down on a chair as my godmother and my mother worked together on my hair, which was placed in an elegant bun by my neck. I watched Autumn take photos throughout the whole process. Last but not least, my godmother placed a veil with a small tiara on top of my bun.

I stayed seated as my mother worked on my bridesmaids' hair while my godmother did my makeup. Tallulah had applied foundation, a very light blush, black mascara, a little bit of red eyeshadow, and red lipstick. The makeup that was done on my bridesmaids was very similar to mine, though Jade had more eyeshadow on than I did, and each woman had a different shade of red lipstick.

When my mom finished doing my bridesmaids' hair, I took a look at each of them. Emma's hair was done just like mine with her hair in an elegant bun. Maria's and Myra's hair were only done in waves since they both had shorter hair. Amy's, Amelia's and Jade's hair were all done in buns and placed behind their right ears.

"You all look so beautiful!" Tallulah exclaimed happily, and we all beamed. "But I have one more thing for you."

Tallulah dug into her bag and took out six red rose corsages for each bridesmaid.

"Let me get a picture of all of you," Autumn said, and we all gathered together for the picture.

"Tallulah, Karena, did you two want to join in?" Autumn asked, and she took one more picture of all nine of us.

"Autumn, can you include me as well?"

I turned toward the door to see Sarah Wheaton, my future mother-in-law, at the door.

"Sarah, come on in!" I told her with a smile, and Sarah walked up to me.

"You are the prettiest bride I have ever seen," Sarah said with a big smile. "Berethor's so lucky to have you as his wife."

"Thank you so much," I replied, and we shared a hug.

"Welcome to the family, Diana."

"And welcome to our family, Sarah," Mom told her, and the two mothers shared a hug.

"Thank you for raising a beautiful daughter, Karena," Sarah told her.

"And thank you for raising a noble son," Mom replied. "We're happy to have you and your family become a part of ours."

"Likewise!"

Autumn took one more picture of the ten of us, and then she took pictures of me and my mom, me and Sarah, Sarah and Amelia, and Sarah and my mom.

"Wait, hold on!" Emma exclaimed. "We're missing something."

"What are we missing?" I asked with laughter.

"I think I know," Mom answered with a smile, and she handed me a pair of white cowgirl boots. "Something new."

"Mom, these are gorgeous!" I gasped as I slipped my feet in the boots.

"Something old," Tallulah said, slipping a silver bracelet over my left wrist. "This was my mother's and she wore it to her wedding day."

"Something borrowed," I heard another female Southern voice say, and in came Justine Pride, who owned the ranch Berethor and I were getting married at.

"Justine, hello!" I said, and then I gasped at what she was holding: a white cowboy hat.

"A little bird told me you wanted to be a cowgirl at your wedding," Justine explained with a smile. "I wore this hat on my wedding day. Now it's yours, but just for the day! I want it back tomorrow."

"I will take very good care of it," I replied with a smile, and she gave me the hat.

"And something blue," Sarah said, handing me a bouquet of blue and white flowers. "And each of your bridesmaids get a bouquet, too."

I watched as Sarah gave each of my bridesmaids blue bouquets, and they were all in awe.

"Diana, your daddy wanted to see you," Justine told me.

"I'll meet you girls at the ranch," I told them, and they all giddied and gave me one more hug before they walked out of the guest room in excitement.

After everyone left, it was just me, my mom, and Autumn left, and we walked out of the room. I walked out to find my dad waiting for me, and his jaw dropped at the sight of me. After a few minutes of him admiring me, we walked toward each other and hugged each other tightly.

"Wow!" Dad exclaimed, and he could not find his breath. "You… Berethor is going to think he's in heaven."

"You love it?" I asked, beaming with a smile.

"Your mom and Tallulah did an amazing job. You're just as gorgeous as your mom was on her wedding day."

My dad and I just stared at each other, and I could see tears forming on his face. I reached up to wipe the tears away.

"I'll always be your little girl, Dad," I told him. "I'll always be your princess."

"And you're about to become a queen," Dad replied, and we shared a few more silent moments with each other. "Well, the horse and carriage is waiting for you outside."

"Oh, Dad," I said, hugging my dad one more time. We pulled apart, and I gave him Justine's hat. "You have the honor of putting my hat on."

I watched my dad take the hat from me, and he placed it on my head. He gave me a proud look, and then I started to walk forward with Autumn taking pictures of me along the way. I walked out the front door of my grandparents' house where there was a horse and carriage waiting for me. My dad helped me get in the carriage, and he and my mom started walking in front of the horse. Autumn had gone ahead as well as we headed toward the ranch. Along the way, my dad swept my mom off her feet and carried her the rest of the way, and I smiled, excited at the thought of Berethor sweeping me off my feet for the first time as a married couple.

"Stop the carriage, please!" I requested, and then I turned toward Autumn. "Get in here! I can't have a pregnant woman walking all that way and then stand throughout the ceremony and reception!"

"You have a good point!" Autumn yelled back as she walked toward the carriage, and I helped her in before we took off again. "Thank you."

"You're welcome! I'm glad to give your feet a rest."

"You are so beautiful," Autumn said with a smile on her face. "I'm even more excited to take pictures of the ceremony. It's going to be beautiful."

"Berethor and I spent all day yesterday decorating it," I replied. "It already is beautiful."

"You two are the most dedicated couple I have ever met. Your marriage will blossom over the years to come."

"Thank you so much!"

We eventually reached the ranch, and Autumn and I followed my parents into the barn where we met up with the bridesmaids and groomsmen, who all whistled at the sight of me.

"Whoa, Diana!" Greg, Berethor's best friend and best man, gasped as he walked toward me and gave me a hug. "Berethor is going to cry seeing you. You look amazing!"

"Thank you, Greg," I replied with a smile as each of the groomsmen took their places, all except for my brother Wesley, who approached me.

"Diana, you look stunning!" Wesley complimented me, and we gave each other a hug. "Thank you for helping me be a part of this."

"Thank you for being there for me throughout all of this," I replied. "From when I first met Caleb until his death, and then when I met Berethor until now and beyond. You deserved a spot in the bridal party."

Wesley and I shared one more hug before he took his place next to Amelia.

"Oh my gosh!" I heard my mom yell, and I found her quickly running up to me and escorting me and my dad outside.

"Karr, what's the problem?" Dad asked with shock on his face.

"Berethor is in the barn!" Mom exclaimed. "No one told me the groom was going to be in the barn!"

"Mom, how are we supposed to know when we make our entrance?" I asked.

"I'll have the kids knock on the door when Berethor walks down the aisle," Mom answered, and she hurried back in the barn.

"That was weird," I said with a perplexed expression.

"This must have been a last minute decision," Dad hypothesized as the wedding processional music came on: Pachelbel's Canon in D.

It felt like forever until my dad and I heard a knock at the door, telling us that Berethor was out of the barn and making his way down the aisle. My dad opened the door and helped me in, and we stood behind the flower girl, whom I remember Sarah telling me was one of her students. Ahead of me, the doors were opened, and I watched each pair of bridesmaids and groomsmen escorting each other down the aisle. My dad and I stayed put until the flower girl left the barn, and the barn doors closed before we walked up to them. I started to feel nervous, but I was excited at the same time.

"Are you ready, Diana?" Dad asked me, and I looked up at him to see a smile on his face. I had just now noticed he was wearing a black suit with a red bow tie.

"Dad, don't let me fall," I replied, smiling back at him.

"Never."

We heard the processional music end, and the bridal march began. The barn doors opened to reveal us, and everyone stood up and turned toward us. We started to walk down the aisle, and the first person I looked at was the groom, who would become my husband. First, I looked at his medium-length copper-brown hair that was combed nicely, and then I looked at his face. His jaw was dropped, and his blue eyes were opened wide. I gave him a big smile, and he closed his jaw, wiped his face of whatever tears he had, and returned the smile. Then I looked at what he was wearing: a long-sleeved white shirt with his sleeves rolled up underneath black suspenders, and he was wearing a purple vest with some silver on it over his shirt, as well as black pants. He had a red rose in his shirt pocket.

I could not take my eyes off of the groom as my dad and I made our way to the altar. As the song ended, we gave each other a hug.

"I love you, Daddy," I told him.

"I love you too, princess."

We let go, and I watched my dad shake Berethor's hand before handing me off to him. I watched my dad sit down next to my mom before Berethor finished escorting me to the altar. We stood next to each other and turned toward his father, Pastor John Wheaton, and the guests sat back down and Autumn continued to take pictures.

"You look sensational," Berethor whispered to me.

"You look amazing," I whispered back before his father started talking.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered to witness the union of this man and this woman in holy matrimony. This is a beautiful day of great celebration, for married life – a shared life, is a great blessing. As Berethor and Diana embark on this journey together, they will be able to nurture a love that makes them better versions of themselves. Marriage is a garden we sow with love, and harvest in personal growth.

"Berethor and Diana, on your journey together, keep your spouse in the space of highest priority in your heart. The love that you share must be guarded and cherished forever, for it is your most valuable treasure. Always remember these words: Love is patient, love is kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps not record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

"You have chosen to write your vows, and it is with these words you express your binding promises to love, honor, and cherish one another. If you are ready to make these promises to each other, I invite you now to face each other and declare your intentions."

We turned to face each other, and I watched Berethor take out a piece of paper from his back pocket.

"Diana Evelyn, you are my everything. You are my teammate, my best friend. You are my study buddy and my navigator. You are compassionate, intelligent, down-to-earth, and genuine. You allow me to be myself around you, and you encourage me to go after my goals and dreams. I remember the first day we met. You had just moved to Pacific Bay from Connecticut and were exploring the city by yourself. I saw a story in you when I first laid eyes on you, and I wanted to be a part of that story in some sort of way. Without thinking, I got you a housewarming gift full of fruits and chocolates and bottles of soda."

I chuckled, remembering Berethor's first visit to my dorm room.

"But then, you suggested we go on a walk, and we've walked every day since then, rain or shine. Whenever you flew home, I found myself missing those walks, but now I get to walk with you every day for the rest of my life, rain or shine, sharing our dreams and our visions of our future together. Diana, I promise to support you for better or worse, in sickness and in health. I promise to treat you like a queen, and I promise to honor your past, present, and future. I promise to show our future children the same love I'm showing you now. I promise to love you and everything about you with all that I am forever, as long as we both shall live."

Berethor took a ring from the ring bearer, and he slipped it over my engagement ring on my left ring finger. I took a piece of paper from Emma and began reading it.

"Berethor Joseph, I wasn't sure if I could open my heart up to love again after my late boyfriend passed away. I moved to Pacific Bay alone, because I didn't want to face my past anymore. You showed up on those courthouse steps and told me I shouldn't be alone. Even though I insisted I can live life by myself, you were still there for me. Now, I can't imagine my life without you in it. You stopped by my dorm every day and asked me what I needed, and you always had something with you: food, knowledge, music, your hands that were so eager to work. I had thought you were just going to be a friend, and I'm so happy I'm wrong. Berethor, you are more than my best friend; you are my soulmate, my heart's song. I promise not to steal the bed covers from you."

We heard laughter form the guests as Berethor smiled.

"And I promise that we're going to have the best pillow forts in Pacific Bay."

We heard more laughter, and even Berethor laughed.

"I promise to love you and cherish you as long as we both shall live, in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for better or worse. I promise to take care of you when you're sick, and I promise to sing you to sleep every night. I promise to back you up when we work in the police force together, and I promise to cry and celebrate with you. I promise I'll accompany you on our walks and just be with you. I love you, Berethor, forever and ever, from the courthouse steps to beyond the horizon."

I took the other ring from the ring bearer and placed it on Berethor's left ring finger. I gave my bouquet to Emma, and I placed my hands in his, gazing at each other with love in our eyes.

"By the power vested in me and by the state of North Montana, I now pronounce you husband and wife," John announced. "Berethor, you may kiss your bride."

I smiled my biggest smile as Berethor took off my hat and wrapped it around my waist with his arms as we pulled in for our first kiss as husband and wife. I wrapped my arms around his neck as the guests cheered, and we gave each other another passionate kiss. We shared one more kiss before we pulled apart, smiling lovingly at each other with wedded bliss.

"Ladies and gentlemen, it is my honor to present for the first time, Mr. and Mrs. Berethor Wheaton!"

We gave each other another kiss as the guests cheered again, and the recessional music started. Berethor escorted me up the aisle, hand in hand, while waving to our guests. I waved with my bouquet while Berethor waved with my hat as the wedding party followed us into the barn.

After the ceremony, Berethor and I had our pictures taken. At first, we had our pictures taken by ourselves, and then our families and our bridal party joined us. Tallulah was creative and made us a flag with the White Tree of Gondor on it, and we used it in our photos. It took us about a good one and a half hours before we signed our marriage license. I was now Mrs. Diana Evelyn Wheaton, and I was so very happy. But in my heart, I was happy that I was raised a Robinson, and I always will be a Robinson at heart.

The reception took place at Robinson Industries, and so Berethor and I were escorted there by horse and carriage, and Autumn took pictures of us along the way. Of course, we offered her to sit with us when her feet got tired, and she took pictures of us from within the carriage.

The entire wedding party was announced, and then Berethor and I walked into the room with style when we were introduced. We saw our wedding party, standing and clapping for us at the table against the windows, and then the song we chose for our first dance started to play. I put my right hand on Berethor's left shoulder, and I held his right hand with my left hand, and we started to dance slowly.

I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy.

I'll be your hope, I'll be your love, be everything that you need.

"I love you more with every breath, truly madly deeply do," I sang softly as I gazed into my husband's blue eyes. "I will be strong, I will be faithful cause I'm counting on a new beginning, a reason for living, a deeper meaning, yeah. I want to stand with you on a mountain. I want to bathe with you in the sea. I want to this forever until the sky falls down on me."

"You're so beautiful, Mrs. Wheaton," Berethor told me with a smile on his face as the next verse came on.

"So are you, Mr. Wheaton," I replied. "I can't believe we're finally married."

"I've dreamt of this day since you came into my life. I love you so much, Diana."

"I love you too, Berethor."

We brought our hands down to our side, but we still held on to them as we continued to dance.

"Is this wedding everything you've dreamed of having?" Berethor asked as the chorus came on.

"Everything and more," I answered blissfully. "We did good."

"We did more than good, I'd say. You really are an amazing planner."

"All of that experience in high school paid off. And so does your compassion and nobility."

Oh can you see it, baby?

You don't have to close your eyes

Cause it's standing right before you.

All that you need will surely come.

I wrapped my arms around my husband's neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist as we continued to dance.

"I'll be your dream, I'll be your wish, I'll be your fantasy," I sang again as we put our foreheads together. "I'll be your hope, I'll be your love, be everything that you need. I love you more with every breath, truly madly deeply do."

We tilted our heads and pulled in for a kiss, and we kissed and danced the last of the song at the same time. All that mattered in that moment was us, truly madly deeply in love with each other. Everything around us was oblivious to us until the song ended. When the song ended, I ran my fingers through his copper-brown hair and bangs as he caressed my left cheek and our guests clapped and cheered.

We made our way to our table and took our seats next to our maid of honor and best man. Dinner was served, and we enjoyed our choices of chicken alfredo or steak and potatoes. After we were done, I watched Greg clink the wine glass, and the room went quiet.

"I would like to make a toast to the bride and groom," Greg started his speech. "I've known the groom as long as I can remember, and we grew up together. We both participated in sports, but we're both fond of baseball. I remember when we butted heads together when I rooted for the Dodgers while Berethor rooted for the Angels. And trust me, when Diana told me she was a Dodgers fan, I told him 'in your face!'"

We heard some laughter from our guests, and Berethor and I also laughed.

"It surprised me that Diana was a Dodgers fan who was raised in Connecticut, but when Berethor and Diana debated baseball together, having both agreements and disagreements, I knew that Berethor had found the woman he was going to spend the rest of his life with. Berethor, you have found one heck of a woman who is a class act. Don't let her go, man."

Our guests clapped, and I tapped my husband on the shoulder.

"Greg found his instincts at the baseball party?" I asked in a whisper.

"I guess so." Berethor paused. "Actually, yes. After you left, he kept convincing me to ask you to marry me."

"So, that's why," I replied teasingly before Emma clinked her glass.

"I remember when I first met Diana. Diana had just started high school at Westport High when I found her looking lost and overwhelmed. I did what I didn't normally do and offered to help. I helped her find her homeroom, and when I found out I wasn't invited to a party, I cried. I was not expecting Diana to find me and convince me to crash the party. We became best friends, and we helped each other through high school. I helped her grieve for Caleb, one of the people whom this wedding is in memory of. I also remember her first telling me about a man she met in Pacific Bay. The first sentence she told me was, 'his name is Berethor and he is the most handsome, noble man I have ever met in my life.' That's how I knew their relationship would go far. My instincts about them had gotten stronger when I met Berethor for the first time, and he was everything Diana said he was. Berethor, thank you for taking care of Diana through college and for giving her hope every day. I pray you will have many blessings in your marriage."

We all clapped, and Berethor and I shared a kiss.

"Now, the bride and groom have decided to hold both the father-daughter dance and the mother-son dance at the same time," Emma announced. "Wilbur and Sarah, we're ready for you."

Berethor and I got up from our seats and walked to the dance floor where we greeted our parents. I walked up to my dad, who had a proud smile on his face.

"Hey, princess."

"Hey, Dad. Are you ready?"

"I was hoping you'd ask," Dad answered as he took my left hand and put his right hand on my waist while I put my right hand on his left shoulder.

We danced for a while to Glenn Miller before either of us finally spoke.

"How does it feel to be Mrs. Wheaton?" Dad asked. "Or are you still Diana Robinson?"

"I will always be Diana Robinson in my heart," I answered. "But I already love being Mrs. Diana Wheaton. I have this whole new life ahead of me as a married woman and I'm ready to explore that."

"You were never one to explore. I mean, not as much as I did."

"Berethor changed all of that. One of his stress relievers is going out on drives, and he's taken me with him ever since we got engaged. I can't wait to see where he takes me for our honeymoon."

"You'll love where he's taking you," Dad assured me. "I promise. Your mom and I are going to miss you coming home to Westport for the summer."

"Dad, I promise we'll visit. Or as Berethor says, we'll visit halfway through the country."

"Where is the midpoint exactly?" Dad asked, and I pondered, trying to remember what Berethor told me.

"Lebanon, Kansas."

"That would make for a very interesting vacation."

"Berethor found a better location in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. We could vacation in cabins and enjoy nature."

"Your mother would love that," Dad replied.

"Knowing my husband, he would too," I said, and we shared a laugh. "He loves to hike."

"That would explain how he got those muscles."

"I'm not ready to let go," I told him as the song was almost finished.

"Me neither. It only seems like yesterday I was holding you in my arms for the first time. Now, you're a married woman, and you might be a mother yourself in a few years."

"I can't wait for that," I replied as the song finished, and we all clapped.

After Berethor and I cut the wedding cake, which was red velvet, the rest of the night was dedicated to dancing, and we had the time of our lives, not wanting the night to end.
