I'm back and happy to say that I will be updating more. It might be slow at first since I just learned that one of my best friends are in the hospital but I found my muse for my story once again.

Chapter Fifteen: Another

(Ken's P.O.V)

I tried to pay attention but it was rather had to pay attention. The teacher went on and on but for once I couldn't focus on anything that was going on. A few nights ago I decided I wanted to learn more about what a 'runner' is. Not to mention I wanted to learn about who were the past runners, according to Kain they were few people who agreed to become a Runner. I don't know why but I want to know why now.

"Mr. Ichijouji." I was snapped out of my thoughts when my teacher called my name, I looked to him and I noticed everyone was watching.

"Yes?" He sighed and shook his head.

"I asked you if you knew the answer to the problem." I looked to the board and looked over the problem.

I was in math class; it was one of the classes I would rather have in the middle of the day instead of the end of the day. It wasn't that hard so I was fine. Either way I was ahead of my class so I would've been fine if it had been harder but it would've taken longer to figure out on the spot. We were supposed to be doing them in our notebooks and well my notebook was empty and closed.

"There is no one answer." He smiled and nodded.

He went to show how to get the answer but I didn't pay attention. I glanced out the window and I watched the clouds. It was going to rain again; I was kind of getting tired of the rain. I wonder how Kari's doing wherever she was. The one question that's floated in my mind for a few days come back, was Kari a runner? I heard that runners were people who crossed worlds so did that mean that Kari was one of them? I sighed but before I could think more I was brought out my thoughts but this time it wasn't by the teacher but by the bell. Thank god school is over!

"Remember we have no school tomorrow." No one really paid attention to the teacher because they were rushing out and as it's become usual now I rushed out of the room.

I still had the top grades but I didn't pay much attention anymore. It was really starting annoy me at how after everything that Kari did for everyone they just kinda walked away. Almost everyone just kind of turned their backs and they don't care about her anymore. The only people who ever worried about her was Tai, Izzy, Matt, and I. Tai was understandable, Izzy just wanted to know as much as he could, while to this day I can't figure out why Matt cares. He could've easily sided with T.K. but he didn't, he chose to side with Kari and I've learned that T.K. won't even talk to Matt anymore because of the fact he chose Kari.

"Ken!" I stopped and I looked over my shoulder, I also realized that I wasn't even that close to the school anymore.

I sighed as I saw her coming running towards me. She the only friend I had at Tamachi, even when I was under the control of the Dark Spore she was there. She was quiet and didn't talk to many people but she was a loyal friend. She's also pretty good at helping people, even if they don't tell her what's wrong.

"Is something up, Rin?" She stopped once she reached me and she nodded her head.

"Y-yeah, what's wrong? You've been spaced out for a few months now." I sighed, she's also very observant.

"Some things have just been on mind that's all." She gave me a look, a look that clearly stated that she didn't believe me.

"Does it have to do with that friend of yours that disappeared?" I stared at her when she said that.

Did I tell her? No I didn't tell her about Kari so how does she know? Even if she's observant and smart there is no way that she would know about Kari. I mean she had no connection to Kari so there's no way she heard about it from someone else. Not to mention no one but the DigiDestineds know that Kari's missing, to everyone else she was being home schooled because she got 'sick' again.

"How do you know about that?" She sighed and stood up straight, having bent over trying to catch her breath after running after me.

"I tried to visit you last week, you forgot all about the project we were working on together. I went to your house and your mom told me that you were visiting one of your friends in Odaiba, said that you've been focused on helping to find one of your friends." I placed my head and I felt bad now slightly.

We had been working on a project together a few months ago for a class. After Kari left I forgot all about it and I've been so focused on helping Tai figure out what happened I forgot all about it. In truth I haven't talked to Rin outside of school since Kari disappeared so not only had I forgot about the project but I've been ignoring my friends too. I also remembered telling my mom about how Kari went missing but made sure she kept it a secret, she understood since she heard about the Digital World last year. Yet I guess she told Rin thinking I had told her since I usually talk to Rin about things for some reason.

"I guess I owe it to you to tell you about what's going on." She shook her head which caught me off guard; I thought for sure she would want to know.

"Only tell me if you want to, all I want to know is if you're ok. I don't want to lose my best friend." I gave her a small smile.

"Come on Rin, you might be able to help actually." She smiled but I turned and I began to walk but she followed me.

"I'll help you the best that I can." I hope Tai doesn't mind that I'm bringing Rin into this; she seems to see things that most people don't at times.

"You can keep a secret right?" I glanced at her and I saw her nod.

"Yeah I can keep a secret." Something flashed through her eyes and I wondered if she was hiding something but I dismissed that.

It was silent between us as we traveled from Tamachi to Odaiba. This was something else that I liked about Rin; she knew when to stay quiet not to mention the silences were usually never awkward. At times I still wonder why even when I was under the control of the Dark Spore she was my friend, why the Digimon Emperor even let her befriend him. Yeah I refer to the past me when I was controlled by the dark spore as the Digimon Emperor since that wasn't me.

"Ken, do you think the world's sad?" I was brought out of my thoughts and I was confused by her question.

"It's always raining now; it's as if the world is sad." I couldn't help the small smile that came to my face.

I watched Rin fidget slightly with the skirt of her uniform. She always hated the uniform since she was never one for skirts. She was watching out the window and I was curious so I glanced out the window. It was pouring once again. The rain really was depressing and I thought about her worlds.

"Yeah, maybe the world is sad Rin." I saw Rin smile.

She was a little shorter than me, only came up to just a little past my chin. I noticed that her blonde hair had a few spots of red. I narrowed my eyes as I looked at the spots of red; they stained the roots of her hair. It looks as if it was blood, but it wasn't because her head hadn't been hurt any time recently. I blamed it on the fact that I wanted to see if she was hiding something about her head, I placed my hand on her head. She jumped slightly and she titled her head up. Her blue eyes were wide and she was staring at me, slightly startled it seemed.

"Is something wrong Ken?" I shook my head and I removed my hand.

"Something's wrong but I won't pry." Just as she was finished the train came to a stop.

"Odaiba Station, please disembark if this is your stop." When I moved she followed me, once we were off of the train I glanced at Rin.

She was glancing around the station, as if she seemed to know something was wrong. I took note of how tense she was, as if she was waiting for something bad to happen. I didn't like that.

"Rin, are you okay?" I waited for her to respond but she didn't.

This wasn't like the usual Rin I knew. No Rin never spaced out and if she did she usual had a smile on her face and would laugh after a few second. She seemed scared and nervous, this wasn't the normal Rin. I sighed and I grabbed her hand, she jumped slightly and once she noticed that I held her hand she blushed and looked at the floor. I wanted to ask but I chose not to, I didn't let of her hand as I began to walk. I led her from the train station and out into the now drenched streets. I was glad since it had chosen to stop raining for enough time to reach Tai's place.

"Rin." She looked up at me and I let go of her hand, I didn't like the fact that the usual peaceful silence had been for once very awkward the whole walk.

"Yeah Ken?" I shook my head and sighed.

"Never mind don't worry about it." Why can't I get the nerve to ask her what's wrong?

"You're worried about me aren't you Ken?" I blinked but she gave me a bright smile.

"Don't worry about me, I'm fine, it's just the last time I was in Odaiba was for my mother's funeral that's all." I bit my lip and since I didn't know what to say to that I just knocked on the door.

"It's open!" I laughed slightly at Tai; he didn't seem to care that it could be someone other than me.

I opened the door and took off my shoes before heading to the living room; Rin had also taken off her shoes. She dropped her book bag right beside mine before catching up to me. I do wonder what Tai would do if it wasn't me, Izzy, or Matt. One time it isn't gonna be one of us. Tai was sitting on the couch with his back facing us. Izzy had his nose stuck in his computer but Matt who looked at me nearly kicked Tai when Tai started to talk Digital World.

"Ow what was that for Matt?!" Tai grabbed his shin and I guessed Matt actually did kick him.

"Who's she Ken?" At Matt's question Izzy and Tai looked to me and they noticed Rin.

"I'm Rin Sylph." Rin sounded a little surprised and unsure.

"She's one of my friends, she knows that Kari's missing and well I just kinda thought she might be able to help." I noticed that Rin began to fidget once again; it was uncommon for her to fidget so it was odd.

"You trust her Ken?" I nodded.

Why would Tai ask me that? If she's here then it should be obvious that I trust her. We talked about the Digital World, Digimon, and so many things that we kept hidden from everyone. If I didn't trust her then I wouldn't had let her come with me.

"Well I guess that solves that issue. I'm Izzy Izumi by the way; it's nice to meet you Rin." Rin seemed surprised that was accepted that fast for some reason but she smiled.

"It's a nice to meet you as well Izzy." I sighed knowing that something still bugged Rin, something other than the fact that the last time she was here it was for her mother's funeral.

"Wait, what issue are you talking about Izzy?" Did they figure something out while I wasn't here?

"We were thinking we should find someone we could trust that wasn't a DigiDestined, someone who might be able to think of other reasons besides reasons relating to the Digital World. We couldn't figure out who we could trust enough though." I glanced at Rin when Tai spoke, she seemed slightly confused but she quickly shook her head.

"I'm Tai Kamiya while the silent one over here is Matt Ishida." After Tai's introduction Rin laughed slightly, I was confused but Matt laughed slightly himself.

"Why are you two laughing?" Matt got up and before I could tell what happened Rin had pretty much tackled him into a hug.

I watched stunned at that. I had never actually seen Rin do that to anyone, not even with her parents well her father. She seemed distanced from everyone but she spoke to me and because of that a few people at our school said we were dating. We weren't but we were best friend, yeah she got the title of my best friend. I watched as Matt returned the hug before patting her head, she pulled away and the smile on her face didn't seem like the others she had given to me today. I felt stupid but it clicked then, all of her smiles until now had been forced.

"Well care to explain what just happened?" Tai seemed rather amused, as did Izzy.

"Well easiest way to explain it is that Rin's my cousin." I narrowed my eyes slightly as I thought.

"I thought you said you had no family besides your father." Rin looked at me and her smile seemed to fade drastically, it was very small now and the joy in her eyes seemed to have died.

"I guess it must've slipped my mind, I don't get to see Matt often or speak to him. My father never liked my mother's family so I guess it slipped my mind." I saw something that I haven't seen since many years ago; I saw that lost look enter her blue eyes.

"So she knows two DigiDestineds, well three if you count T.K., maybe she was meant to help us." It was as soon as T.K. was mentioned when she looked a bit upset, angry actually.

"Maybe Tai, anyways you can keep a secret right?" Rin nodded her head and I saw Matt's blue eyes linger on her head, probably staring at the red roots like I had.

He didn't say anything but I think he wanted to. He let Izzy go off explaining things about the Digital World and Tai told her about Kari. At some point we all ended up sitting in the living. Izzy sat on the floor with his laptop on the coffee table while Tai was sitting in an armchair; I sat in the armchair opposite of him. Matt and Rin ended up sitting on the couch; I noticed the glances that Matt sent her at times. Sometimes looks of assurance when Izzy said something crazy that no one but a DigiDestined would believe but sometimes questioning looks when he would catch sight of her red roots.

"Okay I was trying not to but I have to ask, why are the roots of your hair stained with blood?" Rin froze at Matt's question while Izzy and Tai both seemed confused.

"I had an accident a few weeks ago; I fell down the stairs at my house." She gave us a pained smile.

"I was in the hospital for two week, my skull was fractured and I had a broken arm." I felt ever guiltier, not only had I ignored her but I never knew that she got hurt!

"They say I'm lucky to be perfectly fine, I didn't even know my roots were red till you mentioned it." Rin was always smiling; she was already hiding her pain.
