Chapter Twenty Nine: Sneak In
(Kari's P.O.V)
I sighed as I leaned on the wall. I looked up to the night sky, were we rushing this? I know we needed to know what was going on and what to do but maybe we should wait. I glanced around to see if anyone else was here yet. After we found out about Evan and Storm we agreed that we would head to the Continent of Darkness first, it was a huge risk considering we might just be walking right to the Demon Lords.
"Are you sure about this Kari?" I looked to Gatomon who seemed a bit cautious but then again I don't blame her, she has barely been here two days.
"I don't know, we might be rushing this but I do know that the sooner we know then the better but it doesn't matter if we can't reach our goal." She nodded.
It's been two days since we learned that Evan and Storm were working with us. We almost went the night we found out but not only did the storm stop us but both Evan and Koichi refused to let Storm go with the shape she was in. Since they did agree it wasn't a good idea to leave anyone behind by now we waited two days and from what I heard she was in good shape by now. Evan said it was because they both healed faster than normal thanks to being too so many different worlds.
"Not to mention this is illegal!" Gatomon nearly hissed the words out and I laughed ever so slightly, maybe Takuya rubbed off on me since I wouldn't have laughed at that before.
"Well we don't have another way of getting in." I jumped when out of nowhere Koji spoke.
It took a few moments to find him. He was just walking up out of the shadows. Despite being the Warrior of Light he seriously blended in with the shadows to well. I noticed that he didn't wear what he usually wore tonight, he wore just a black t-shirt and matching pants not to mention his usual bandana was missing too.
"What if we get caught? We could be sent to jail." I sighed but now I began to think about what would happen if we did get caught.
The only way to their Digital World was the Trailmon which we could only get to via train station. We were pretty much breaking into the train station. I was a bit nervous since this was the first time I've tried something like this but Koji didn't seemed nervous at all. He rolled his eyes and shrugged before peeking to the train station.
"Well we just don't get caught then." I sighed and Gatomon wanted to yell I bet.
"Have you done this before or something Koji?" He looked at me and gave a faint smile.
"Twice actually, Takuya and Koichi were with me too." I just stared at him.
"Do we even want to know?" He sighed and peeked in again.
"We were called again, we were helping to defeat some corrupted Digimon before you showed up falling out of the sky. It was late one night when we got called out so we ended up sneaking in the other time well that was something that Takuya made us do. I actually don't know what the second time was about." I just shook my head hearing that.
"Thing is can we manage it again? We're lucky we got away with the first two." This time since I was more ready for people to arrive I wasn't all that surprised when Koichi arrived.
"True we did almost get caught but that was because of Takuya's loud mouth." I chose not to comment and just glanced at Koichi, he wore a similar outfit as Koji but he had a dark grey t-shirt but still black pants.
"For once the twins wore something similar." I muttered it and no one heard it besides Gatomon who laughed ever so slightly.
"We're only waiting on those two then?" Koji tensed as he asked, he must've seen something.
"Actually, we've been here the whole time. We arrived before Kari did." I did jump at that though because they actually seemed to appear from nowhere.
"We learned how to blend in a long time ago." It seemed like them appearing had even thrown Koji off guard while Koichi only sighed.
"Since we're all here are we going to go now?" I pushed off of the wall but Koji looked back inside.
"There's a guard walking around the lobby so we have to be quiet." I glanced at our group, I think we can manage being quiet.
"Let me go first and let Storm pull up the back." I looked to Evan when he said that.
"Maybe Koichi knows you two but I don't and we've done this before so let Koichi or I lead." I should've seen this coming.
"We're wasting time here." Even if Gatomon said it she barely got glances.
"We've snuck into bases of evil Digimon before; we can manage a human guarded building." I stared at them; they've snuck into bases of Digimon before?
"We snuck into the last base of the Demon Lords actually, we got roughed up quite a bit but we got the information that was needed for the Digital Rulers to gather the team that consisted of Chrono, Takuya, and you three." I was stunned hearing that and Koji sighed.
"Fine but if we get caught you two are taking the responsibility." It didn't even seem to bother them.
"Now that we got that settled let's get going." Evan was careful as he crept forward and fiddled with the lock which he managed to unlock.
"Thankfully their security system got knocked out by the storm." I glanced at Koichi when I realized how silent he was being, he looked weary but then again something told me that the Continent of Darkness didn't hold fond memories for him.
"Then it's a bit easier." After that we began to go in.
I could barely see since the lights were off and I had to wonder if the power had been knocked out and yet to be restored like a lot of other places. I noticed the guard since he carried a flashlight and that's about the only time I saw any light. It took a while for my eyes to adjust, either because they did this enough or they just had good instincts it took them almost no time to go sneaking around.
"Hey, did you hear they almost have the power back up." We all stopped when one of the close guards spoke to another, the power would also bring light.
"That'll be good, I found the front door unlocked so either there's an idiot that left it open or someone's in here." I bit my lip, they already knew.
"You didn't bother to report that!" I felt someone push on my back and after squinting I could see Storm.
Her eyes almost seemed like a predator's eye. I got the clue though and began moving and I managed to locate the others quickly, they were moving slower now. I felt some touch my arm and I barely realized that it was Koji before he was behind me, putting me in the middle of group. As we began to head to a hallway the lights flickered to life down the hallway and a few around the other side of the room.
"Looks like the lights are coming back on. I guess that lazy guy is smarter than he looks." If it wasn't for knowing that the Demon Lords always seemed to know our movements I wouldn't have thought about the word 'lazy' but I did.
"Storm!" I barely heard Evan hiss her name but I heard her sigh.
"Did you hear that?" I gulped and I had a feeling that Koji glared at Evan through the darkness which was getting brighter since the lights were starting to flicker on closer and closer to us.
"Yeah, it came from over by the elevator. Someone must've snuck in!" I saw something move in a rush and then I saw something flicker.
"Surge." I heard the word and before I knew it we were blanketed in darkness once again.
"What the hell just happened?!" I was surprised but I was snapped out if it when I was jerked forward by someone grabbing my arm.
Our footsteps echoed in the nearly deserted place. There were so many twist and turns that I lost myself within the dark maze. I nearly fell when we began downstairs but whoever had a hold of my arm didn't let me fall. By the time we lost the guards and slipped around the others we nearly ran into I had no clue where we were.
"W-we're far from the elevators now, how are we going down?" Koichi's voice came from a little in front of me so he wasn't the one who had my arm, they still held onto my arm.
"There's one just ahead actually, most don't realize that it's down here though." Storm's voice came from behind me well, it was passing me as she walked passed me.
"How do you still remember the lay out even running through all of these twists and turns in the dark Storm?" Koichi sounded surprised but I saw the same flicker and I was surprised when light flooded the hallway when the light inside of the elevator flickered to life and the doors opened.
I looked to who held my arm and I was surprised to find Evan. He seemed a bit out of breath while with a glance behind me I saw Koji at the end of the hallway, probably watching for anymore guards. When Evan let go of my arm I looked at him. He let out a shaky breath and looked Storm.
"We should get going; it won't be long before they catch up with us." I don't know what Storm did to cause the elevator to work or to make the power go out but I didn't question her.
We got in the elevator even though it seemed like we were all a bit hesitant but the approaching footsteps drove us to take a leap of faith pretty much. It was a bit unnerving for me riding down. Gatomon was watching Storm but every now and then I glanced at her too, she never once removed her hand from touching the side of the elevator. I stopped watching the number when we went pass the number of floors there were.
"So it isn't just that one elevator that works to get to the Digital Terminal." I relaxed a bit hearing that.
"The Digital World is a funny thing. We've seen entrances in many different shapes and sizes before." I looked at Storm when she said that.
"We've seen people being able to open portals either through incantations or through the means of Digivices." When she said Digivice she looked at me, she meant the way in my world.
"Incantation?" Evan sighed and I looked at him, as did Koichi and Koji.
"People like Chrono, Chrono can open a gate by incantation. If she wasn't healing we would've gotten her to just open a direct path for us. People in her world can open their own paths since in her world magic is very much real." I was surprised hearing that but I thought about the bow that she can summon, it made sense but it was still surprising.
"Wait, wouldn't that make them DigiDestineds?" Evan shook his head.
"Chrono is the only DigiDestined of her world, she actually wasn't called through to the Digital World but she managed to open her own gate by accident when she was an infant. She was truly a DigiDestined." My eyes went wide; she opened her own gate when she was an infant?
"She was taken in by her world's Digital Ruler since she had no one to return to. Her world nearly fell victim to the Demon Lords but with the magic that they wielded the Demon Lords found it more bothersome to try and over take it so they left it alone but they left millions dead, Chrono's parents among those." I remembered what she said when she attacked Lilithmon; she called them filthy and seemed to completely hate them.
"She's hated the Demon Lords since she found out the truth. She lost her family and they attacked her world again just recently, shortly before she first showed up here in this world. They only attacked the Digital World though since they found out that a world will destroy itself if the Digital World is destroyed." The words seemed to make everyone freeze.
It was then that we all probably realized it. The Demon Lords haven't been attacking us but has instead been staying in the Digital World half of the time. Did they use our hesitance to attack them as a means to attack the Digital World? Were they attacking the Digital World and just going to let us witness the world fall apart before our own eyes?
"Do you think that's what they're doing here?" I didn't want to see this world fall apart, I felt so at home here even if I did miss my friends.
"It would be too easy." I felt like Koichi's words were said to convince himself.
"Yeah, after what they did they'll attack us head on. After all they'll want to make us pay for defeating them five years ago. I highly doubt that they'll take the cowardly way of defeating us." The elevator stopped a few seconds later and the doors opened.
"Just, hold onto your hope. Only time will tell of their plan." Evan seemed like he nearly had to force the words out, he was also quick to get off of the elevator.
"Also remember, the future isn't written in stone. We can always change the future. It's the past that we can't rewrite." Storm removed her hand and she too left the elevator it was also when the light of the elevator flickered off.
If we do everything we can we can prevent a horrible future right? I looked Gatomon; she was staring at them as if she had put things together or something. I looked from her to Koji and Koichi; they both looked a bit tense. The past is an undeniable part of us.
"Just what have they lived through?" I couldn't help the question that slipped out.
"I don't think we want to know." I wondered what they had suffered but I had to agree with their words, Koji and Koichi had managed to speak the words at the same time and from their looks by complete accident.
"Hurry up you guys, we need to get a move on." As I stepped off I thought about the crests that I had given to Koji and Koichi to hold onto.
They could've brought us straight to the Digital World but they wouldn't glow for some reason. Something was wrong with them. I had to wonder what was wrong with them though. I pushed the thought from my mind and continued towards them and I glanced around the platform, there was only one Trailmon. It was black and it had yellow lines on it along with red spots, which kind of looked like eyes to me.
"The Dark Trailmon, I thought we would have to figure out to summon you." If a train could laugh I would say that it did laugh.
"I'm drawn to those who are close to losing hope or those who have no hope." I didn't like what he was implying.
"We do believe that we can protect this world, it might be hard but we can." I don't know what force compelled me to say those words but the only answer I got was the train laughing.
"I wasn't talking about you or the Warriors, I was talking about her." I looked to Storm, as did Evan but his eyes dropped the ground.
"We don't have time to stand around and talk. We need to be going if we hope to find what the Continent of Darkness holds and reach the Dark Ocean without the Demon Lords finding us." The fact that she didn't deny it
"All aboard who's getting aboard." The doors opened and before anyone could question her she got on and Evan was quick to follow her but he cast a glance back at us, as if he knew what we were thinking.
"She's right, we need to hurry. Maybe after everything we'll tell our story but we have no time to speak of such trivial matters." Did he call their past trivial or their selves trivial?
Gatomon was the first to move to get on the train and I followed after her. Koji and Koichi shortly behind me. Something was just off tonight. Something just didn't seem right. Was it because we were venturing into the darkness of our choice or was there something else? As I took a seat I looked to Storm, she was watching out the window and she looked far away.
"We have time before we get there so why don't you tell us now?" Gatomon seemed curious even if she hadn't wanted to know before.
"We need to think of a plan. We almost got caught coming here so we need a plan to avoid the Demon Lords once we reach the Digital World." Evan countered Gatomon nearly seconds after she had spoken.
"They'll pick up on the Digivices as soon as we step foot into the Digital World so we need to do something about that." I pulled out my Digivice and I looked at it, it's been a while since I actually used it if you don't count the brief use of it two days ago.
"How are we going to fix that?" Koji seemed a bit more trusting of them now for some reason, then again maybe it was because the events that occurred during sneaking in.
"The same way we've hidden our Digivices's signals." I looked to Evan when he said that.
"You two have Digivices?" It was a stupid question to ask since they were both DigiDestineds but they didn't have partners and from what I can tell they don't transform.
"We have special Digivice but yes we have Digivices." Special Digivices?
"Since we're working as team why don't we reveal our Digivices to each other? It's only fair to know since we're allies." Evan nodded at Koji's words.
"You three first, don't get me wrong I trust you guys but it odd how you suddenly trust us. Forgive me if I'm rude but I would rather not reveal our secrets to a person that might be controlled." Evan's voice was low but I saw Koji smirked.
"I'm right about you then." Koji pulled out his D-Tector but his words confused me a bit.
"What are you talking about Koji?" As Koichi revealed his D-Tector he gave a confused looked to Koji.
"He was seeing if we held the common sense that anyone who is against the Demon Lord should have. One shouldn't so readily reveal secrets unless their sure you can trust the person you reveal them too." Evan glanced over my D3 before looking at my face.
"Reveal the other you carry." That shifted Koichi and Koji's attention to me but I was a bit surprised.
"What are you talking about? This is the only Digivice that I have." Gatomon glared at Evan.
"You hold a second Digivice, I can sense it." I tried to figure out what he would be sensing, I only had one Digivice.
"She only has one Digivice that I can assure of." Evan narrowed his eyes ever so slightly.
"Why you." He didn't get to continue because Storm elbowed him in the side.
"Don't speak so carelessly Evan, she has no clue as to what she holds in her hands. The Card, it's a Digivice." I was surprised but at that I pulled out the metal card that had formed from fractal code, Koji and Koichi stared at it.
"Ow, was it really needed to elbow me Storm?" Evan looked at Storm but she barely spared him a glance before looking at me.
"It's a special kind of Digivice; it gives one the ability to control elements." My eyes went wide and things clicked.
"Evan and I hold one of those as well." She held her hand out and in a flicker of what I finally placed as lightning a card much like the one I held appeared.
The difference was that the odd symbol was white and the background was light red and the edges were white. When she flipped it there was a fancy white 'S' on the back. I have the same kind of 'Digivice' as them. Yet it didn't make sense how this could be classified as a Digivice. I looked up when Evan sighed once again, he had also summoned a card but I faintly caught sight of fire but I wasn't sure since I had disappeared before I looked up. His card had a red symbol along with red edges and a black background, on the back was a fancy 'E'.
"What does the symbol mean?" Evan and Storm shared a glance at Koichi's question before they sighed.
"It's known as the Digital Hazard symbol." Evan stared at the symbol while Storm pocketed her card.
"It's said to appear on Digimon that has potential to be highly destructive and if the Digimon would be corrupted it could then threaten the existence of both Human and Digital World, we know the later part is true." My eyes went wide and I looked at the card.
"Why are the cards marked with it then?" I asked the question before I really thought because this card, it didn't seem like it could be that strong.
"We don't know. We've yet to figure out why these cards are marked with the Digital Hazard not to mention to figure out what these cards truly are." What could this really do?
"How do know that Digimon marked with that could threaten the existence?" I stared at the symbol for a few more seconds before looking to Koji; he seemed almost intrigued by what they had said.
"Lucemon bares this mark on both of his hands and I would say since he's been corrupted he has threaten more than just the existence of both Human and Digital World." The silence that settled over the train car was thick.
Ok so as I reread my own writing I noticed how poor of a job I did on describing the cards so I drew them [well more like found the ones I drew a while ago] and I put them up on deviantART. The links are on my profile page if anyone is interested in seeing what they look like. I really am sorry for the poor description skills there.
