Chapter Thirty Eight: Helpful Information
(Kari's P.O.V)
I chewed my lip glancing around at the others. It was rather silent. No one was saying anything. It was actually kind of awkward. When I woke up this morning I found Storm cooking food, I chose not ask what the meat was from. I don't remember her bringing anything with her but I would really rather not ask and find out. I looked back my portion; I couldn't bring myself to eat it. The others were eating, well Koichi was picking at it. Koji just ate with his eyes closed, probably pretending it as something else while Takuya seemed to have little to no problems.
"So, we survived the night here." I flinched slightly.
The first time she's talked since the she told us about her reason to fight. Her voice was low and it sounded nearly dead. Now I also couldn't help but notice how her eyes looked blank, as if she had just checked out. I wanted to say something but I didn't know what to say.
"Yeah but I have no clue where we are." Even if Koji said it he didn't open his eyes until the bowl was out of his sight beside him, I also had to wonder where she got the bowls.
"So um, do I even want to ask what the meat is and where you got the bowls?" We nearly froze at Takuya's question.
Why must he ask the question about the meat? No one knew where she got it from because she got it and was cooking before anyone was up. Koichi had accidentally nodded off during his watch which was when she slipped away.
"One person." I was confused even more so when she pulled out her card.
"It can open a gate for one person." I let out a small sigh of relief, so it's not somehow Digimon meat.
"I went out to get food. I was going to tell you guys at some point." As flipped the card I noticed something, the S seemed to be chipped slightly.
"So anyways, you don't know where we are?" I chose to steer away from that topic back to something that's important; this was meant to have been an in and out one day thing.
"I haven't known where we were since we went through that portal." I sighed hearing that.
"We could try to find the Rose Morning Star?" I was confused hearing Takuya offer that bit.
"That's true, if we can locate that we can back track." Choosing not to point out that Storm and I had no clue what they talked about I took a hesitant bite of whatever Storm had cooked and found that it was surprisingly good.
"Actually, we should find our way out." I looked at Storm; she was staring at the ground.
"I sensed a Demon Lord earlier on, I was sure he saw us but he did nothing. It's probably safe to assume they know we're here. They probably expect us to be going to whatever the history place is so they probably have a trap ready for us." I froze hearing that, they know we're here.
"It's probably because they sent Takuya after us and he didn't return." I saw Takuya's hand shake for the slightest second.
"Even so going back isn't an option. There is no guarantee that we would find our way back to the portal or whatever it was we went though and even if we do it wasn't a one way thing." I smiled slightly at Koji's words.
That reminds me of something. I really the stories Tai told me when I was younger, back about his first few days in the Digital World. When they first arrived they wanted to find a way back and didn't know what to do. Joe wanted to sit there because he was sure someone would come looking for them, they weren't aware that they were in the Digital World at the time.
"Kari?" I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at Koichi.
"Huh?" Is there anything that Tai told me that could perhaps be used in this situation?
"You were smiling, do you know something?" I just laughed slightly.
"No, Koji just made me remember when my brother told me about when he first went to the Digital World for some reason. They didn't know what to do because a Kuwagamon could've come back for them." I miss them.
I really miss my friends. I want to see them again. I haven't seen them in a while. I want to go back and see them. I even miss Davis and Yolei's odd arguments. I'll get to see them when everything is settled though. How will we even defeat them though? We still don't have the answer to that question. In truth I feel like an animal running away from a hunter so are we even fight a battle we can win?
"You realized it huh Kari." I looked to Storm.
The dead look in her eyes it struck me then. She was toyed with by the Demon Lords. She had to run from them for three weeks before she lost everything. Was this what she felt like during those days? No was this what she felt like now? Yet unlike me, she couldn't simply defeat them and go back to her friends. Her friends were dead.
"Are they?" She shrugged.
"They could be. They sure do love to play with people." It seemed like they realized it then; Koichi's hands furled into fists and Koji scowled while Takuya just dropped his gaze to the ground.
"There is no hope for this. I've known it all along no matter what Evan said. In the end, this is just a game for them. There is no end in sight." I bit my lip.
"There has to be a way." I didn't want to believe that this was a hopeless even if I doubt we could defeat them, we could seal them away for another time though right?
"We can't even stand up to them. We can't fight." Storm's given up hasn't she?
"What happened to making them pay for what they did to your friends Storm?" Koichi spoke so suddenly and threw that at her, I saw her eyes flicker slightly.
"Four years we've searched for a way to defeat them. We couldn't find any. This is simply a problem that generation after generation of DigiDestineds has inherited over and over again." Even if we look back who's to say we would find a way to defeat them?
"You simply haven't searched in the right places." They jumped but I froze.
I watched as the voice gained a form. It was merely a ghostly appearance but I knew who it was. I knew that voice. I stared at the ghost and Gatomon who had previously been on my lap opened her eyes. She too stared. No way.
"Wizardmon!" How?
He was trapped in the Human World. He was just a ghost. We were in the Digital World not even connected to my world. How could he be here? Wait; was this the Demon Lords messing with us? Could they know that Gatomon and I would trust Wizardmon nearly completely? Were they toying with us? Yet even if they were how would they manage this?
"I can't stay for very long because it's rather draining." He smiled at Gatomon and me.
"You're the Digimon from that day! How do you know Kari?!" I was surprised by what Takuya exclaimed.
"I come from the same world as her. We met each other five years ago during the fight with one of the evils of her world." That served to surprise Takuya, Koji, and Koichi for some reason.
"How are you here?" I didn't think we would get to see Wizardmon so soon after last year.
"I met someone, a very kind-hearted DigiDestined. She's carries a very special crest, she managed to use her crest to somehow make me more than a ghost." I was surprised hearing that.
A DigiDestined somehow used the power of her crest to revive Wizardmon? Yet how could she use a crest like that?
"What do you mean 'special' crest?" He shook his head.
"I can't explain because all we know is that it's special but we've found something. Recently we gained access to a place none is supposed to have access too." He's come with information again.
"Wait, you're alive?" Gatomon was almost crying again but I couldn't blame her.
"Yes." He came back; I can't even think how happy Gatomon is.
"I don't have much time like this. It's taking a lot of her strength to allow this." Whoever he was with must be really strong.
"If she's strong enough to allow your consciousness pass through the world and come here she has to be strong. A consciousness is easier to send than a person but even so to hold it is impressive. It's unheard of to occur now of days, the only ones who managed it have been Digital Rulers and Chrono thanks to her world's ability." Hearing it surprised me.
"You five will meet her eventually but right now I have to tell you guys what I've come for. I wish we could talk more though." I wonder how this will help.
"We have only found prophecy upon prophecy at the moment so we can't say for certain. Yet one thing that all hold in common is a phrase, 'Harmony shall carry the elements but once they are given to the ruler of the elements the next step will be born'." His words were confusing but for some reason Koji looked at Koichi.
"She managed to find a prophecy that speaks of the Demon Lord; I don't have time to tell you of it b." He vanished.
"Where did he go?" Why did he vanish so suddenly?
"The person allowed his consciousness to travel must've lost the strength needed." I looked at Gatomon and I saw that she was smiling, she was happy this time.
"What would that even mean?" Takuya seemed confused and something made me think of the crests.
"Harmony shall carry the elements do you think Koichi? The next step will be born? That fits what happened earlier on." We looked at him and I tried to figure out what he meant.
"It's the best bet, it was strong enough to manage to get rid of the control the Demon Lords had over Takuya." They did something?
"What are you two talking about?" I noticed that Storm sounded a bit interesting now instead of the cold dead tone.
"While we were fighting the losing battle against the Black Aldamon Koichi did something. I don't know how he did it but he got a new form. At first I was thinking that perhaps it was his version of Unified Spirit Evolution." I watched as Koichi pulled out the black crest that I had given to him.
"I don't know how I did it but I think I managed to use this." He used the crest?
"What do the crests even do? I noticed that Kari wears something similar." Storm's eyes came to me and I noticed they were brighter, something was changing.
"In my world the Crests were used to help our partners evolve past Champion into Ultimate. They're the only way we've found that can do so, we managed once to cause it without them but that was when we fought Apocalymon. It's easier to do so with the help of the Crests though." I grabbed my Crest.
"So they're used to allow Digimon to go to the next level huh?" Storm fell silent with her legs crossed and hands on her legs, she was thinking.
"So what do you all have?" I glanced at Takuya.
I don't know if Koji wanted to mess with Takuya or what but I watched him pull out the white crest that I had given to him. That probably has the power to allow him to do whatever Koichi did. If the crests really could help them to the next level then that would explain. As I thought something bothered me though, even if they could get powered up was there something that Storm and I could do or would we be unable to help?
"Kari?" I snapped out of my thoughts and I reached into my pocket.
"I have one that as the Symbol of Flame on it." I paused though.
There were two things in my pockets. I pulled both out and when I opened my hand I was surprised. The Crest of Flames didn't have the symbol upon it but I put that with the fact that Takuya wasn't being controlled anymore. Agunimon once said that it was temporary. It had a flame like design on it now but what surprised me was that there was a pale yellow crest as well; it had a lightning bolt on it.
"A Lightning one as well apparently." I was surprised to see the crest; I didn't understand where it came from.
"When did you get a Lightning one?" I shrugged and I watched at Takuya plucked the red one from my grasp.
"The symbol must've changed when Takuya got back under his own control." I watched as Takuya just grinned.
"You have a Lightning one?" I looked at Storm.
She looked at the yellow crest. It was then that I remember that during the fight she was using electricity as her means of attacking. Was the Lightning crest meant for her? Yet if it was who had given it to me? How did it get into my pocket without me knowing it though?
"Why are you asking? None of us can use lightning." I held my hand out to her she was a bit hesitant but she took the crest.
"I use lightning as my means of attacking. The card that was given to me allows me the ability to use lightning; it's like a borrowed power or something. I can't explain it very well." She curled her hand around the crest.
"So we all crests now, but thing is how would we get to this 'next step'?" I shrugged.
"I don't know but thing is, what are we going to do now?" Silence fell over us.
"We're still lost." I wonder if there is ever a compass that works in the Digital World.
"The worst thing to be is lost in the Digital World." Storm stood up.
"Well we should get going, let's pick a direction and pray for the best." Eating what we had left we began off.
We walked and despite the fact of Storm still being a little off she was leading. I guess following her for now is best since she might remember the way we had run the other day. As we walked I saw nothing familiar. We went in the wrong direction. Then we made the mistake of letting Takuya lead which lead to us walking in a giant circle. After that Koichi tried to lead the way but we only continued to get lost.
"I really wish a compass existed that could work here." I saw Koji stop; he was the only one who could've heard me.
"Why did you stop Koji?" I just hung his head and pulled out his D Tector.
"The D Tectors have a compass." He grumbled it out and I saw Takuya face palm while Koichi sighed and shook his head.
"That could've helped a while ago." Storm crossed her arms.
"Be quiet, there was usually never a need to use it before." And so now hopefully we can find our way now.
So... is it bad I don't know if I like it or not. It felt necessary and... yeah it doesn't change that I don't like it that much. I feel like I could've made this better than how it turned out. So I might not update next week because I'll be back in school. I feel like I should apologize for both the not so good chapter and that I will more than likely not update next week. Sorry.
