Chapter Forty Six: Surprise?
(Koji's P.O.V)
It bothered me. I watched Storm's every movement as Kari tended to me. Something wasn't right with that girl. First she's all distant and frankly gave me the feeling she would betray us in a heartbeat to nearly being a human shell when her brother died. I understood the flip of character when her brother died though; he was the only family that she had left. Yet that last flip, it unnerved me.
"Koji, what's wrong?" I didn't trust Storm.
"Just thinking about something, you ok?" I didn't look away from Storm though even when I replied to Kari.
It was a mere second but I swear I felt it. I swear I felt the overwhelming sensation of another Demon Lord during that fight. It was right when Koichi turned into Duskmon, maybe it was him since he was more than likely forced into that state by Barbamon but something told me it wasn't him.
"I got a few scratches, it could be worse if it wasn't for Storm though." I glanced at her.
She really only did have a few scratches, probably from when she was pushed out of the way or when she dove to grab Gatomon. I was glad that she wasn't hurt but I really wish that it hadn't been because of Storm. I looked back to Storm. I remember what I saw and it bothered me.
"Right before Duskmon attacked, was there something different with Storm?" Maybe it was only me.
It was in the middle of battle but I swear in that split second when I had met eyes with her when I got Duskmon away from them her eyes were redder than before. A blood-red instead of, as Kari had commented to her in remark to her eyes, scarlet. According to Kari her eyes were normally scarlet while Evan had imperial red eyes; I don't get the whole different shades but whatever. To me red is red.
"No, well I mean she didn't respond to me when I said something but she might've been shocked and she did slap my hand away when I grabbed her shoulder then again she viewed Duskmon as Koichi. I don't know she seemed kind of distracted by something though." Another thing bothered me.
I swear in that brief second, there was a ring of blue in her eyes surrounding her pupil. It was distinct too, it stood out. Bloody red to a distinct blue, there was something wrong with her in that moment. I don't know what happened but there was something else that she was hiding. Whatever that is wasn't something that was good, I knew that just by how she had acted. I saw the movement she had made towards Kari before she guarded against Duskmon.
"Was there anything different about her eyes?" My eyesight was kind of blurry after hitting the ground right before that so maybe I had seen things.
"I was paying attention to Duskmon, why?" I watched as Storm brushed her fingers through Koichi's hair, she was so gentle with him.
"Never mind, don't worry about it. I think I was hallucinating that's all. Just hit my head to hard or maybe that last attack from Barbamon messed me up." I still didn't feel comfortable or so trusting of her.
"I would count that as something's wrong." I watched as Takuya approached them.
"I feel fine though so don't worry." I stood up on my own even though I would've been content just sitting there; we needed to move before they came back.
"We need to move before Barbamon comes back or they send someone here." I was a bit annoyed when Storm spoke before me.
"We don't even know where to go; we don't even really know where we are." Her eyes flicked to Kari, something changed about her demeanor though in that moment.
"We go back. At this moment we need to leave, taking a risk to reach that place that may not even hold any answers isn't worth the risk." I was surprised but I narrowed my eyes.
Yes we've wandered into enemy territory by coming here to the Digital World since the Demon Lords seemed to have settled to not attacking us in the Human World but that didn't mean anything. We need to find answers soon, while we're wasting time they're plotting. I don't know what to expect from them but what I do know is that it's nothing good.
"We've wasted enough time; we need to find some kind of information soon." I have no clue as to what we were supposed to do besides defeat them, how we were supposed to was a complete mystery.
I remember Lady Ophanimon mentioning a prophecy in the past. We need to find that. It'll give us some kind of insight as to what we need to do. It would have to give us insight wouldn't it? It foretells what is supposed to happen so it would tell us what we need to do.
"You are aware that if what you're chasing is a prophecy there as cryptic as they can be right? I've once seen a prophecy talk about defeating a minor evil with the words 'the dawn will break when night falls'. They're not easy to understand and will only cause further confusion." Her words surprised me.
"That can't be from a prophecy, you're making that up." She gave me a flat look but I glanced at Kari when she sighed.
"Actually, she's telling the truth. The prophecies are never easy to understand. I've encountered one and well, if it wasn't for some help we never would've figured it out." I was surprised by what Kari admitted.
"The sky will be darkened by the wings of many bats. The fallen people will invoke the name of the undead Digimon king and when the clock strikes the hour of the beast, the undead king will reveal himself in his true form as the beast. Then angels will shoot arrows of hope and light at the loved ones of those they've been sent to protect, and a miracle will happen." Kari turned and looked at Storm so fast.
"How do you know that?" I was confused so I turned to look at Storm, she wore a frown.
"Evan and I were assigned to be cleanup if your group failed; if you guys had failed we were to exterminate VenomMyotismon." My eyes widened, I knew that name.
Kari had told me about the horrific battle that she had faced shortly after we left. How she was forced to sit back and watch as her friends did all of the fighting and she couldn't do much. How that whole battle had happened simply because she was the Eighth DigiDestined of her World. It was something that had caused her nightmares when she was younger. Even having faced three Demon Lords back then she hadn't been ready for that, she hadn't expected what he would do to her world. The Demon Lords back then had toyed with us and we just managed to take advantage of a small mistake.
"Wait, just you two would've taken on VenomMyotismon?" She shrugged.
"Chrono would've fought with us too if that makes you feel better. The three of us were trained by Digital Rulers; we were being trained to fight the Demon Lords." Hearing that stunned me, they were being trained to fight the Demon Lords?
"Why were you three being trained to fight them?" She glanced at Takuya.
"We all have our reasons to hate them; our reasons are the strongest though. We already had the desire to fight them no matter how hidden they were. Also if you want a prophecy, Chrono has it more than likely. That girl knows almost everything that her dear Adoptive Father, the Digital Ruler, knew. He knew the prophecy; did he share it with her? I don't know." I felt anger bubble up.
"Why didn't you tell us that before we came in here?" She looked at me.
Something about those eyes, they made me flinch and take a step back. If there wasn't something different with her then something was just plain wrong with her. I saw a speck of blue in her eyes again. The glare that she settled on me was enough to make even me tense and feel uneasy. It felt like she was looking through me almost, that was something that I did to others. It wasn't something that I was used to being turned on me.
"How was I to know that you came in here looking for a prophecy? You said information on the Demon Lords and a way to fight them; you never once mentioned looking for a prophecy." I hated to admit it but she was right.
"I would think that a prophecy would fall under information on them." Storm looked at Kari.
I blinked when I saw the ring of blue in her eyes but just as quick as it had come it was gone. I really must've hit my head. I'm seeing things I think.
"Ok you want a prophecy? I know where it is for sure. I know where you can find the prophecy of this battle. Hope you don't regret it once you see it though." A chill shot down my spine for some reason.
"Hope you understand it too. Only Evan or Chrono could explain it, Evan knew it and Chrono probably knows it." Evan knew the prophecy?
"I was told it to but I forgot; I wasn't in a very good place when I was told so I can't recall it." She knew but forgot it huh, how convenient.
[Ken's P.O.V]
I stared; I couldn't believe the sight before me. Daemon was free and there he was but what got me was the fact that he held Rin by her shirt. Either she had given up or she had passed, I didn't know which one but both of them made both fear and anger bubble within me.
"Well, well if it isn't one of the DigiDestined that sealed me away not too long ago." Even if I couldn't see it I knew he was smirking.
"Get your hands off of her!" I wanted to look at Matt but I couldn't tear my eyes away from Daemon.
Matt had already been down when I came, Tai was checking on him. I don't know what happened to him or how Daemon got Rin. It was clear that whatever he did must've hurt Matt and possibly Rin as well. My mind connected too many things at once; I couldn't decipher anything that was being connected. Well only one thought actually, all this time Rin lied about knowing about the Digital World. She had to know about if before this if she was a part of this battle.
"I can't do that. We need to start getting rid of them, she's the easiest target. After all, she has no partner." Wait, she doesn't have a partner?
How did she become involved in this battle if she didn't have a partner? Since she was from this world then she would have a partner. Now that I think about, I never even remember something that remotely looked like a Digivice. Maybe she didn't know about the Digital World but had some other connection to the Digital World then.
"How do you know she's even the one you're looking for if she doesn't have a partner? No partner means that she isn't a DigiDestined." Even though I bet Tai doubted what he just said it did sound very convincing as if he did believe his own words but since I knew him long enough I knew he didn't.
"Well, if she wasn't the daughter of two DigiDestineds I would believe that; Rani the DigiDestined of Hope and Kaname the DigiDestined of Kindness." My eyes widened hearing that.
"She ain't my daughter Daemon, how many times do I have to tell you that? My child wouldn't be that pathetically weak." I was surprised when her father seemingly came from nowhere.
His hair was black and his eyes were a cold grey. I didn't understand how Rin could look so much like her mother; I barely remember meeting Rin's mother. Blonde hair and blue eyes, just like Rin. Yet I also realized then what her father's appearance meant. He wasn't just evil he was working with the Demon Lords. He was working on the side that was trying to kill Rin.
"I knew you were a jerk but I wouldn't have thought that you were like that." Matt seemed surprised to find out but Rin's father, his uncle, just laughed.
"Oh you don't know the half of it. You see, I gave up on being good a long time ago when I found out that being good didn't mean that you always won or could protect the person you hold the closest. Oh I lost that naïve view when Rani nearly died, all because I was good." I hated that a small part of me whispered agreeing with what he said.
"You still killed her." Rin's father smirked while Daemon laughed.
"This life was simply too much for her, you see she was so frail and naïve. She just couldn't come to accept that being good was all giving and no getting. I had to save her from her naivety before someone took her away from me." The way he spoke, it gave me a bad feeling.
"That's why Rin will die too. She's as naïve as her mother, she needs to be saved before someone takes her away from me." A smile crossed his face; it didn't fit with his words though.
"Yes, save her from this harsh world Kaname." Was he another pawn to Daemon?
What had Daemon told him? What lies have Daemon told him? My hands furled into fists. I wish Wormmon was here. I wished that there was something that I could do. After all of the times she has helped me I wanted to help her. I didn't want to sit here and do nothing. Yet there was nothing that I could do without Wormmon.
I watched as Daemon raised Rin up just a bit more, they were far from the ground. Was he going to drop her? I was just about to say something, what would've come out I don't know. My words died in my mouth though when Daemon growled as what seemed like black data suddenly was released from him, Rin was dropped from the hand that vanished into data while whatever or whoever wounded Daemon had Rin.
I was surprised. There was something that I was going to assumed to be a Digimon from what he had achieved. He had a white cloak and a blue scarf like thing wrapped around his head. He held Rin cradled against him. He was facing us, his back to Daemon, he was looking Rin over.
"Who the hell are you!?" The Digimon didn't even flinch when Rin's father yelled.
Daemon glared at him but he held where his hand had been. The thought hit me like bricks. Whoever he was just wounded Daemon, he did something that even when we all fought together we hadn't managed. He did something that I thought was impossible. Not only did he save Rin but he hurt Daemon.
"Evil Inferno!" The Digimon surprisingly easily dodged it, even though he was holding onto Rin.
"First you force those naïve fools to stop before collecting all of Lucemon's data, leaving those two idiots as the only two, then you saved the Light and now you have to interfere again. You are truly infuriating Baalmon." I watched as the black data came rushing back and his hand reformed.
"Of course I interfere; I will not allow you demons to achieve what you desire." He dodged the attacks that Daemon sent his way; it was as if they were nothing to him.
"Give me my daughter back!" It seemed liked everything stopped for a split second.
When Rin's father yelled that black data swirled in front of him and the Digimon that formed made time seem to stop. I stared at it because I met it once; it had been in a different form though. Yet I also noticed that Rin's father claimed her as his daughter even though he had told Daemon that she wasn't his daughter.
"Grisly Wing!" Myotismon stood there in front of Rin's father.
Baalmon did something that I didn't expect; it was something that I didn't expect to ever see. He simply moved and pulled his cloak up, ironically like a Vampire would. Myotismon's attack, from what I was told was one of his strongest attacks, it was blocked but I noticed that there was a faint golden flicker from the white cloak.
"How did you block that? Crimson Lightning!" The whip went at him.
He dodged it even though something told me he could've blocked that as well. He dodged it and even though he still held Rin he attacked Myotismon. Yet right before he could land a hit Daemon hit him, an enlarged claw cut into Baalmon's back. Daemon though pulled back, I noticed that something seemed to have burned him. Baalmon jumped back away from Myotismon and Daemon. There was blood starting to stain the cloak which surprised me because I wasn't very used to Digimon bleeding. I usually never saw the blood.
"You are a pain you know that Baalmon. Why do you fight against us? What do you gain from fighting for the losing side?" Baalmon didn't falter or put Rin down.
"If he's a pain we should kill him Daemon, he won't give me my daughter back." When I looked at Daemon I nearly recoiled backwards, I had been watching Myotismon or Baalmon.
His cloak was gone and if I wasn't aware of how strong he was or who he was I might've laughed. He kind of looked like a monkey. A monkey with wings, horns and a third eye but still a monkey; his left hand was larger than his right hand.
"Shush Kaname; Baalmon isn't someone that you can handle. I know why you're so much stronger than you should be. I know why you fight for the losing side." Daemon held out his larger hand towards Baalmon.
"That girl, you're her partner aren't you?" The mere thought surprised me.
Baalmon being Rin's partner, he was strong enough to hurt Daemon. Rin didn't like fighting from what I know and she was always seemingly fragile. As if she could easily be broken but Baalmon, he seemed completely different. He seemed resilient as if he could take anything that was thrown his way. Even though I didn't think Rin was weak I couldn't believe that Baalmon could be her partner. If he was then she was hiding something from me.
"So what if she is?" I saw that he shifted so he held her closer.
I guess that explains why he went so far to protect. He didn't sit her down as if he knew if they had a chance they might attack or take her. He probably risked something by keeping her with him. Yet it was probably what was keeping her alive currently. I saw Daemon narrowed his eyes at Baalmon.
"Nightmare Claw!" Myotismon's sudden attack caught me off guard but it didn't seem to surprise Baalmon.
I don't know what he said; he spoke in some other language. Something appeared before him, it looked like a mirror. The black ghost like thing collided with it but went through it. It was absorbed or so I thought, a few seconds later it burst out of the mirror like thing. It let off a wail that pieced the air and it was much faster. It slammed into a surprised Myotismon but before I could tell the effect he disappeared back into black data.
"That was very foolish Kaname; you should control your partner. I don't feel like fighting you today Baalmon. I'm not as foolish as others, I know that look in your eye. With a partner like her you still have farther you could evolve, I rather not meet your Mega Level." He vanished, as did Rin's father.
"I'll get my daughter back from you if it's the last thing I do! I'll free her from this world!" The words were the last of her father before he vanished completely.
"Rin, is she ok?" I was beaten to asking the question by Matt.
"Rin will be just fine; she's going to need time to recover from the surprise of learning about her parents. She's strong though and she already came to accept things over the years; what pushed her over the edge was learning about her mother's death." He looked at Matt; I saw a small smile cross his face.
"Don't worry; I'll take good care of Rin." I took in Matt's appearance for the first time.
He had a cut on his face, blood stained his face and I bet his fans would go into a fit if they saw that. His shirt was torn in places while his pants had tears as well. Something must've hit him or hit close to him and flung him. He was either ignoring the pain he was bound to be feeling or he had a high pain tolerance.
"Don't take her away." Tai's eyes widened at Matt's near plea.
"Someone has to watch her and be there for her now that she knows the truth, you and I both know that." Matt had his head hung; from where I stood I couldn't see his face.
"I'll watch her. If she goes out there, into those worlds she'll never come back. I know she won't come back because she's always spoken about wanting to be free. Once she's free she won't come back." He stood up but he was unsteady on his feet.
"I know it's inevitable that she'll leave but not yet, there are things I need to tell her, things that I've hidden from her for many years now." Baalmon sighed, he glanced at me and I flinched from how hard his eyes were as he stared at me.
"I would like it if you stayed away from her. I understand your good intentions but she needs space." That stung.
"Why do I have to stay away from her? She's my childhood best friend, she's been through everything with me and I want to be there for her when she needs me." He shook his head and looked away.
"You mean much more to her than you realize yet she means less to you than you mean to her." His words confused me.
"What do you mean?" He didn't answer me, he simple vanished but Matt vanished as well.
It startled both Tai and me. Why is it that he just vanished like Daemon did? Then again he was fast, faster than what he had shown during that fight. That I know because of how fast he had been when he saved Rin. I hadn't even seen him until he landed. He might've just moved faster than I could perceive. His words bothered me. Rin means a lot to me since she's my best friend. How could she mean less to me than what I mean to her? How would he even know?
"So, did you know about that?" Tai's words were low, as if he was almost out of it.
"No." He looked at me.
"You didn't even know about her being connected to the Digital World before this?" I sighed and shook my head.
"I knew nothing Tai. I knew Rin was good at hiding things but I hadn't expected any of that. If anything I expected she was hiding something about things that happened when I was the Digimon Emperor since I don't have all of those memories back completely." He nodded slowly.
"We should go back before the police come. I don't know about you but I would rather not try to explain this." Looking around and realizing the damage for the first time, I had to agree.
"Plus we lost Izzy somewhere along the way." He turned and began to walk away, as if he didn't really want to think about what just happened.
I wish I could be like that but my mind wouldn't focus on anything but what just happened. Rin was a DigiDestined. She had hidden it from me for a while, how long I don't know but I know she's hidden it from me. She's hidden a lot from me. How well do I actually know her? What else has she hidden from me? Also, if she's a DigiDestined then what is she the DigiDestined of?
So, it's been nearly a month. I got busy during the holidays and school work piled up. Sorry about the long wait. I really am. I really need to fix the long gaps between chapters. But I'll probably update more regularly now. Also, I feel like this was missing something. I tried to throw some mystery into the chapter but I'm not sure if it worked. Well hope you like the new chapter. Good morning/afternoon/night.
