Elena sat on her bed writing in a medium-sized grimoire that had been bound in leather when Kol walked into the room.
"You made Rebekah cry,"
Kol's steps falter when his eyes land on the grimoire that was in Elena's lap.
"Elena?"
When he doesn't get a response he quickly grabs the grimoire from Elena's lap.
"Hey!"
Elena quickly grabs the grimoire back before giving Kol the look. She had picked it up from Lilith, it was Lilith's way of showing her disapproval. Whenever someone disappointed Lilith, which happened often, she would always turn to Elena and give her a secret look. Of course the person it's directed at never notices or just doesn't mention it. After all, Lilith was the village's sweetheart.
"You practice magic?"
Elena looks down at the grimoire and back at Kol.
"Yes, but that is not what I was doing,"
"And what were you doing?"
"Writing,"
"You sound like Elijah when he attempted to teach us how to write,"
Elena erupted in laughter, and momentarily Kol joined in.
"I didn't know you could do magic,"
Elena nods at him.
"Ayana teaches me,"
"I learned from mother's grimoires,"
"You practice magic?"
Kol laughs in response.
"Let's keep this a secret,"
"You do not want the others to find out?"
"Not yet,"
When it looked like Elena was about to question him he quickly spoke up.
"What were you writing about?"
"That is a secret,"
"Fair enough,"
Kol sighs and looks at Elena. She had on a red apron that was placed on top of her white tunic dress, her curly brunette hair was down, and her posture was proper.
"You've changed,"
Elena pauses before tilting her head at him.
"What are you talking about Kol?"
"Anyone can see it, Elena. You dress differently, you are barely around, and it is no secret that you have been sneaking out at night with father to hunt. Rebekah has been crying her eyes out because she has made herself believe that you dislike her. The only time we get to see you is during the day of the full moon, and even that isn't enough!"
Elena only sits there stunned.
Kol was never one to explode on people this way.
"We miss you, Elena,"
"Forgive me,"
Before Kol could respond Elena raced out of the room, he didn't bother to go after her. Kol sighs as he eyes the grimoire that she had left behind. Grabbing the grimoire, he wraps the leather strap around the grimoire before placing it under her cover. He leaves the room just in time to hear Elena closing the front door behind her.
Elena runs through the village with tears that threaten to fall, ignoring the overwhelming heat of the sun.
She was going to the one person she trusted above all.
Lilith.
"Woah!" a boy shouted, spinning her around.
Elena looked up at the boy, ready to push him off of her, but once she caught sight of him she couldn't do it.
It was Marcus, he had probably just gotten back to the village. Marcus and some of the other werewolves had gone somewhere on the orders of their alpha when she was 11, and Elena hadn't seen Marcus ever since. He looked better than what she had remembered.
His tan skin glowed in the sunlight, his wavy black hair was now down to his neck, and his hazel eyes were practically impossible to look away from.
She was so caught up in her thoughts she forgot he was still standing there in front of her with a worried look on his face.
"Marcus?"
His hand landed on her cheek, quickly wiping away a tear with his thumb.
"Let's get you out of here,"
It was then that she noticed the whole village had stopped to look at them. A small blush appeared on her face as she allowed him to usher her away.
They come to a stop at a beautiful pond she had never seen before.
"I found this pond when I first turned into a werewolf,"
"It is truly beautiful,"
"As are you,"
She blushes and moves her head in a way that allows her hair to cover her face.
"Why were you crying?"
Marcus never knew how not to be blunt, it is one of the things she likes about him.
She sat down before answering.
"It's personal,"
"I understand," Marcus says before joining her.
"It's been a year since I last saw you, when did you get back?"
"Today, did I miss anything?"
"Noah has courted Lilith,"
"I suppose Lilith did not take a liking to that,"
A chuckle escaped his lips, raising an eyebrow when she didn't say anything.
"She said yes?"
She nodded at him.
"I didn't think she was the type considering…"
She didn't need him to finish that sentence. They both knew how Lilith was. She slept with any boy that she considered worthy, and there were plenty of boys in the village that qualified. Most of the boys she slept with never spoke out about it, and the ones who did were labeled liars. The village refused to believe that their sweetheart was… improper.
"You didn't… did you?"
It was not her place to ask and yet he only smiled at her.
"No, of course not,"
They both grew silent, letting the sound of nature fill their ears.
"You had great swordsmanship,"
Marcus pauses before looking at her with a smile.
"You remembered,"
"Of course I remembered, it was the first time I ever saw you,"
His face practically lit up at that.
"I don't think I would ever forget that moment,"
His eyes meet hers and everything seems to stop.
Ever so slowly they lean into each other.
"Elena!" A voice exclaims from a distance.
Her lips are an inch away from his when they quickly move away from each other.
They see Lilith quickly approaching them.
"Lilith?"
Her name slipped from their mouths at the same time.
"Marcus, I did not know you had come back,"
Elena frowned slightly at the way Lilith was looking at Marcus.
"I just came back today,"
Marcus stood up, before looking back at Elena.
"I should be going, it was nice to see you two,"
"Likewise," Lilith said before Elena could respond.
Marcus quickly hurried away as Lilith pulled Elena off the grass.
"What was that?" Lilith questioned.
"What was what?"
Lilith gives Elena 'the look'.
"He is 14, two years older than you!"
"I know that,"
"You can not afford to get your heart broken, it will destroy you,"
"I never implied that I had taken a liking to him,"
Lilith only sighed in response.
"Elena, can I tell you something?"
Elena narrows her eyes at Lilith.
"Anything,"
"Promise me you will not tell a soul,"
"I promise,"
Lilith takes a deep breath as her hand goes to her stomach.
"I am with child,"
"That is amazing news, Lilith! Have you told Noah yet? He is going to be extremely happy when he hears the news!"
Lilith grabs Elena's arms tight enough to cause pain.
"No, Elena! You do not understand, the child is not Noah's,"
Her voice comes out in a harsh whisper.
Elena's eyes widen as she takes her arms out of Lilith's grip and slowly backs away.
"You didn't…"
Lilith showed no hint of being ashamed of it.
"Elena, don't be overdramatic,"
Elena took a deep breath in.
"Are you going to lie to him? Tell him it's his child?"
"Yes,"
"This is wrong, Lilith,"
"He will never know, he won't get a chance to lay eyes upon the child,"
"What are you talking about?"
"After it is born I will give it away to another family,"
"We should just tell him the truth,"
"No one is telling him! Not me, and certainly not you!"
Elena never wanted to admit it but Lilith was frightening when she was upset.
Elena only gave Lilith a shaky nod.
Lilith sighed and gently took Elena's hands into hers.
"I am sorry, I hadn't meant to frighten you,"
"You did not," Elena said, lifting her chin.
A smile appeared on Lilith's face as she laid a hand over Elena's face.
"Good, or else I would have to replace you,"
Lilith had said it as a joke, but it felt more like a threat. Nevertheless, Elena joined Lilith in laughter.
"Please do not tell him,"
Lilith's voice was soft and desperate.
"He is my friend, I can not lie to him," Elena informed as she stood up.
"I love him,"
"If you loved him you would not have laid with another,"
Lilith looks at her with pure shock on her face.
Elena runs off before Lilith could say anything.
