As promised, another chapter. Also I will say that originally this was the first one that I had out the three. It was also because of this one that I decided to write Chapter 73. If I had posted this chapter or the last stand alone with no hint at context I feel like it could have been interrupted as the end of the story - which it is not. I thought about not giving context so it would just be a type of cliff hanger but then I felt bad so I decided to give context, to a degree, as to what is going on.
Chapter Seventy-Five: Lost
[Kari's P.O.V]
I followed after Wizardmon but sighed after a few moments. This was similar to that day in truth – once again my mother was taken hostage by the enemy that I was fighting. At least last time half way through trying to figure out what to do I was told that my mother was okay but asleep, later hypnotized but still ok. This time though it wasn't anything as easy as that though. I had no clue what was going on with my mother. This time my uncle was also taken so I don't know what was up with him. Not to mention that once the enemy that took them was defeated it wouldn't end the battle. We have to go through whoever runs this place to get them back but even after that we would still have to fight the remaining Demon Lords.
I stopped walking and curled my hands into fists as I hung my head. I closed my eyes to stop myself from tearing up. I don't know why I wanted to cry suddenly. Well I knew why actually. I felt sort of helpless. I don't know why I felt like that because I knew that this time there was something that I could do in this fight. Back then I hadn't even met Gatomon until I was face to face with Myotismon. I had to watch Wizardmon sacrifice himself last time before I could do anything to help. This time though not only could I get Gatomon up to Mega Level but this time I could personally fight with the Card.
I wasn't helpless. I wouldn't have to watch any of my friends suffer like Matt did that day. I wouldn't have to watch as my friends sacrificed themselves for me like Wizardmon had. I could help as much as the others this time because I didn't have to stand back as everyone else fought. I could fight as well. I could protect my friends this time.
"Kari, are you ok?" I opened my eyes, surprised by the voice.
I blinked confused by what I saw. I stared at my hands, they were smaller than they had been. I stared at the orange hand that was in front of me. The orange hand was bandaged. I knew who it belonged to. I raised my head and I stared into the worried green eyes of him.
"Agumon?" I questioned confused.
What's going on? I blinked a couple more times and looked around where I was. I froze though when I realized where I was. I looked at the familiar surroundings of the building that we had hid out in and met up with Matt after Myotismon started to take everyone hostage. I stared at Tai and Matt as they stood a bit away talking.
"No way!" Tai's voice carried over to me easily.
"Way, I saw the whole thing!" Matt seemed a bit bothered.
"That creepazoid, he's cut off the whole district!" Tai's voice trigged my full recognition.
Why was I here? Why was this happening!? Was this another dream? No, if it was a dream why was this happening when I was wide awake? I had just been walking down a hallway. What was going on? Did something happen and I get thrown into the past? No, time travel wasn't possible. I had to be dreaming this up then. If I was dreaming this up then something was wrong. Why would I be dreaming this up now, in the worst possible moment?
Matt made a humming like noise, "It's that crazy fog bank of his."
I gulped because I knew exactly where I was. I knew exactly what was going on. I knew what was going on. This was during the Myotismon fight. Soon enough Tai and Agumon would leave. After that though Phantomon would appear with Snimon and Tuskmon. They wanted me but Matt refuses to let them take me thanks to Tai making him promise to protect me.
Tai curled his hand into a fist and raised it, "This is insane!"
My hands twitched because Tai was right. This is insane alright. Myotismon was long defeated and we were in the middle of a battle with the Demon Lords. I opened my mouth to try and say something but my shoulder was grabbed. I looked over my shoulder, looking to Gabumon since he was the one who grabbed my shoulder.
"Kari, are you sure you're ok?" Gabumon sounded so worried.
"Why wouldn't I be?" Nothing had happened to me.
"You bumped your head a little; while we were coming here." Agumon sounded worried as well.
"I'm fine." I spoke the words but I paused.
Was I fine? Maybe everything that I thought was 'real' was actually a dream? Maybe I had bumped my head and dreamt that stuff up. I'm pretty worried about the others and my parents as well. I was thrown into the world of Digimon as well and I did just finish the battle I've yet to get to tell Tai about – I might never get to tell him in truth. Yeah, I must be worried and that must've combined with the fever. I didn't want to worry Tai and Matt with everything that was going on so there was no way that I could tell them about the fever that I had.
"I'm scared." What would happen?
Would it turn out like it had in my hallucination? Would we defeat Myotismon? We had to be able to defeat Myotismon. There was no way that we would lose to Myotismon. I had faith in Tai and the others. I knew they would be able to deal with Myotismon. I just need to relax a little. Yeah, I just need to take a deep breath and calm down.
"Well don't worry, we won't let anything happen to you Kari." I smiled at Gabumon when he spoke.
"Thanks Gabumon." Gabumon smiled back at me.
"Holding thousands of people prisoner just so he can find the eighth child!" Tai was fired up and I looked back to them.
"There's no telling what he'll do if he doesn't find her." Matt, he actually sounded worried.
I watched as Tai kicked a can. The can rattled as it skipped across the ground. I curled my hands into fists and walked towards them. I felt so helpless. There was nothing that I could do. That dream, it was all wishful thinking. Most of it didn't even make sense in truth. I was just scared about what could happen. My mind was just going crazy or maybe in some twisted way the 'Spirit of Harmony' let me see a glimpse of the future, or some possible future at least.
"This is all my fault." As I spoke my heart ached with guilt.
This is my fault. I know it was. There was no other reason all of this was happening. If I just went to Myotismon then none of this would be happening. Maybe if I turned myself in to Myotismon I might be able avoid what I had dreamed up as I was bandaging Agumon. I didn't want anyone to get hurt.
Tai lifted his head and it whipped to me real quick, "Huh?"
I frowned, "It's all happening because he's looking for me, right? That's why mom, dad and everyone-"
Tai stood up and started towards me, "Now don't say that. It's not your fault," Tai placed his hands on my shoulders, "It's just how things are. It's called destiny."
I gulped and hung my head. Destiny, why was it so mean? Destiny just kept hurting people needlessly. Destiny was just making everyone suffer so horribly. Why do things like this happen and just get called 'destiny' as if that gives it some kind of pass?
Tai knelt in front of me, "Don't you worry; I'm going to bring mom and dad back home safe and sound. You're little buddy Gatomon to."
Tai was trying to sound reassuring but I could tell that he was just trying to cover up some kind of uncertainty. I watched as Tai stood up and turned to look at Matt who was watching us.
"Matt, do me a favor and look after her until I get back." Tai's words made my heart stop.
You can't go Tai!
Matt approached us, "Uh sure, no problem."
"Kari, I need you to be a big strong girl for me while I'm away." I lifted my head to look at Tai.
"Okay," The word tasted bad in my mouth, "Please be careful."
I wanted to beg him not to go but I knew that I wouldn't be able convince him to stay. If I tried to beg him he would just feel bad about leaving me and he would worry as he went off to try and rescue our parents. He would go either way but I could help by not making him worry about me. I was worried though that he would get hurt. I was scared of what might happen. This wouldn't be the first time that I somehow caught sight of an event that would happen when I had a fever induced dream.
Tai gave a thumbs up, "Hey aren't I always?"
His comment didn't help me relax any. Tai pointed the Digivice that was attached to his belt. The time displayed was 7:30 AM.
"Ok, its 7:30, give me two hours and if we don't make it back by then, then you guys get out of here." I stared at Matt as Tai started to move.
"Come on Agumon, let's go." Tai started to run off with Agumon following him, waving back to us.
Matt took a step forwards, "Be careful man!"
Even Matt was worried about Tai's safety.
"See you soon! Everything is going to be alright!" As soon as Tai finished that he tripped over his own two feet.
"I hope so." I stared after him, worried because I had a bad feeling.
I wanted to do something but there wasn't anything that I could do. I couldn't go after Tai though. If I tried to go after him then Matt would go after me and that would end up putting Matt in harm's way and if something happened to him then it would truly all be my fault. I looked to Matt but he looked uneasy. I shifted before going to sit down. I sat down to begin what would be a long wait.
"So, uh, Kari." I looked to Matt, he seemed anxious.
"Yeah Matt?" He shifted a bit.
It was quiet between us. The silence was comfortable. The atmosphere was tense and it my stomach flip flop.
"So, have you met any Digimon other than Agumon and Gabumon?" Matt's question seemed uneasy, as if he was just trying to fill the silence between us.
I nodded, "Yeah I met Wizardmon."
I smiled slightly and I was about to continue but Matt started to speak, "Wizardmon huh, is that your Digimon's name?"
I shook my head, "No, no mine is Gatomon. Wizardmon is like her best friend but he's gone now."
I frowned at that thought. It wasn't easy losing your best friend. Gatomon must feel pretty alone, scared as well. She has to face Myotismon all alone now. Oh, I hope Tai gets there and he's able to rescue her. I hope nothing bad happens to Tai or Gatomon.
"He got caught by the bad Digimon. It must be awful losing your best friend." I looked to my lap as I spoke – even if I knew how it felt it wasn't sure if Matt knew what it felt like or if Digimon felt differently.
"My mommy got captured by them to." My eyes widened and gasped as I realized something.
I stood up and turned to Matt, "But not my daddy! You think my daddy got away?"
Matt looked to me, "He's alright don't you think? And mommy to because Tai's going to rescue her, right?"
Matt looked away from me, "Uh sure he will Kari, but let's remember that Tai's just one kid and he's fighting hundreds."
I tried not to but tears stung my eyes and started to fall. I covered my eyes as I started to cry. I knew that Matt didn't mean to be hurtful but it did hurt. I was worried about Tai and my mom.
"I want mommy to come back." I took steps back and sat down once again.
"Nice work, have some compassion. Can't you see that she's worried about her family? You're worried about yours aren't you?" Gabumon scolded Matt.
We sat in silence after that and Gabumon held my shoulders softly, trying to comfort me. Eventually I stopped crying and my eyes settled on the ground. Matt ended up just staring at his Digivice while I kicked my feet, my feet sliding across the ground. A beep broke the silence that had settled – neither of us had tried to break it this time.
"Huh, you're brother should've been back by now." Had it really already been two hours?
Matt began to walk forwards, "Where is he?"
"Hey, is anybody there!" The voice carried and both Matt and Gabumon were surprised but seemed happy to hear the voice.
Matt took off running towards the entrances, "Sora, what's up!"
I followed after Matt and Gabumon just a little cautious and unsure.
"Matt, thank goodness! Myotismon has rounded up the whole district!" My eyes widened and I began to approached Matt and Sora slowly.
This is my fault. So many people were being dragged into this because of me.
"He's holding everyone at the convention center." That's where mommy was then.
"So, what do we do now?" Matt's question had an obvious answer – we need to help everyone.
"I have a suggestion." My eyes widened and I looked to the thing that appeared, it looked like a grim reaper.
"You see, I never understood why the master was wasting all this time looking for the eighth child when it would be so much easier to destroy you all!" The thing moved its scythe the ground began to shake.
Out of the ground came a green dinosaur that had pink eyes along with black and red striped horns. Spikes came from its spin as well.
"Say hello to Tuskmon, and watch out avoiding his razor sharp horns are no easy tusk." The thing laughed at its own bad joke.
"Sorry." The apology didn't sound sincere and was also accompanied by him raising his scythe to the sky.
There seemed to be a green vortex in the sky and from it came a big praying mantis. The blades that it had was enough to make me take a step back. I wish there was something that I could do. There was nothing that I could do if this came to a battle. Matt and Sora was out numbered as well, two to three.
"Snimon, a deadly praying mantis Digimon. Which is appropriate because you're all about to become his prey." I gulped because I didn't know what would happened now.
"Watch out!" Sora called out as Tuskmon took a step towards us.
"Gabumon!" Matt called back.
"Gabumon Digivolve to Garurumon!" As it finished Garurumon ran forwards and pounced on Tuskmon.
"Don't worry, we can take these guys." The fire bird rose in the sky so it could face off against Snimon as it spoke.
I stared at the scene in front of me nearly paralyzed from fear and worry. All of this fighting was because of me. Someone was going to get hurt if not worse. Why couldn't I do something to stop any of this? Why wasn't there something that I could do?
"Twin Sickle!" Snimon sent purplish blades at the fire bird, the fire bird barely dodged the attack.
My eyes followed Garurumon as he was punched by Tuskmon and sent flying. Garurumon hit the building and flipped in the sky. Garurumon didn't stop either – he was getting farther and farther away from us.
"Hey, you're going the wrong way!" Matt's words didn't help the situation any.
Garurumon exited my field of vision but I heard the rattle of a chain. I turned around just in time to see the chain that was held by the grim reaper wrap around Matt's neck. The grim reaper came at Matt with the scythe raised.
"Shadow Scythe!" The scythe was swung at Matt and Matt barely dodged the attack.
"Get back!" Sora swung at the Digimon with a stick but it was easily cut in half by the Digimon.
Sora was flung backwards and landed hard on her back. I stared at what was going on before my eyes. Was there really nothing that I could do? I curled my hands into fists and my heart started to ache. I wanted to do something.
"Birdramon Digivolve to Garudamon!" My eyes briefly went to Garudamon – the battle against Snimon still on going.
"Twin Sickle." The attack hit Garudamon and sent Garudamon into the building.
I looked back to Matt when I heard noises.
The chain was wrapped tightly around Matt's throat, "Kinda chokes you up doesn't it?"
The Digimon that held the chain was laughing as he stared at Matt. I stared at the sight feeling helpless. Flashes of that dream coming back – it felt so very real. It was like I was living through this a second time. Would it work? Could I?
"Stop it! Now!" Somehow I finally found my voice.
"That's enough!" I felt something spark inside of me.
I began to walk forwards knowing what had to be done. I had to do this to save Matt. I could do this. It couldn't be scarier than what I faced alongside of the others right? I tried hard to keep my body from shaking. I couldn't show how afraid I was of what may happen.
"It's me that you want! I'm the eighth child! If you'll just stop hurting my friends, I'll come with you quietly, wherever you want." I stared the Digimon down because I didn't have the strength to look away because if I did I might crumble.
"My, what a refreshingly helpful attitude," the Digimon moved his scythe once again, "it's a deal."
Snimon backed off of Garudamon while Tuskmon disappeared below ground once again. He released Matt from the chain. Matt was quick to fall to his knees, gasping and coughing. Garurumon began to approach us once again. It was taking a lot to hold myself together.
"I'm ready." I stood still and some kind of energy bubble appeared around me.
"Hurry Matt, stop her!" Sora practically cried the words out but I closed my eyes and hung my head.
"No, Kari!" Matt yelled the words but I felt myself moving and lifting off of the ground.
"You don't know what you're doing!" Matt called out the words and a tremor shot through my body.
"Kari!" I opened my eyes slightly at Matt yelling my name.
I gulped back the tears of fear that wanted to fall. I was far from the ground and still moving. I had a feeling of what might happen but I couldn't stand back and watch what was happening. There was nothing besides this that I could do. I didn't want anyone else to get hurt because of me. This was all my fault so I would take responsibility for what was happening.
I closed my eyes once again trying to find some fragment of the previous courage that I had had. I couldn't show any kind of fear. I had to remain strong. I took a deep breath and tried to focus. Remember everything that I learned standing alongside of Takuya, Koji, and Koichi. They told me that through anything they would be with me.
For some reason I felt like they were here with me. I felt the fear slowly melting away from me. I felt courage starting to bubble up. I could do this. I could stand for myself. I had to do this to protect everyone. Hopefully everyone would be ok. I had a feeling that someone would save me. Even though I felt helpless like I couldn't do anything on my own I had a feeling soon enough I would be able to help out.
I opened my eyes and I found that I was within a building. I was no longer within the bubble either. I stood tall and looked forwards unwavering. My hands were curled into fists as I held tight to the fire of courage that burned within. The grim reaper like Digimon was rather close to me but I didn't back down. When a male came into the room, he looked like a vampire and he was staring down at me.
"Little girl, why have you chosen to show yourself to me? Do you have any idea of what is about to happen to you?" He sounded so cruel.
"I got a guess." I felt the fear welling up again.
"Then why?" He stared at me.
"Cause you were hurting all of those people." My words seemed to surprise both him and Gatomon.
I felt a spark of bravery, "Someone had to stop you from hurting all of those innocent people!"
A part of me liked the caught off guard look that the guy gave but something told me that nothing good was going to happen when he started to laugh.
"My, what a thoughtful little girl you are." He looked at Gatomon who was looking away from me.
"Gatomon, why won't you look at the eighth child's face?" I watched Gatomon when the question was asked, what would she say?
"Because she's not the eighth child." I was surprised to hear Gatomon denial.
"Who is she? I've never seen her before in my life." Was she trying to protect me?
"Is that right?" As soon as he finished his snapped his fingers.
Something grabbed onto my hair and started to pull it. I couldn't help but let out a small shriek since it had been unexpected.
"Kari!"
"Ow, my hair!" My words came seconds after Gatomon had called my name – blowing her own cover story.
"Kari, interesting that you know her name since you never met her before." Gatomon looked so dejected now at his words.
Gatomon managed to get out of his grip and she ran towards me, "Kari!"
Gatomon stood in front of me and she looked ready to fight anything that came our way. I looked back to the vampire like Digimon and curled my hands into fists. With Gatomon I could fight somehow, right? If we worked together there was something that we could do.
"Together again, to bad it'll be short lived." He raised his arms and crossed them in front of his body.
"Grisly Wing!" He moved his arms and held his cape out to the sides and I didn't know what to expect.
No, I knew what was coming. Kabuterimon would show up and blast Myotismon with his attack, Electro Shocker. The interference would save Gatomon and me from an attack. That's what happened in that dream at least and so far nothing had strayed from what I had dreamt. Once again that fever induced dream is proving to be a miraculous glimpse of the future. We would escape this alive and hopefully like in that dream we meet up with Wizardmon again. Then again, maybe I could change what would happen and save Wizardmon.
"Electro Shocker!" The attack cut off my thoughts – Lillymon would also attack.
"Flower Cannon!" The two attacks went at Myotismon but with an exhale the attacks change course and slammed into the ceiling.
I really did have a chance to change what would happen. That dream really did seem to have told me what would happen. If I can change one thing then maybe I can save some heartache. The two attacks that slammed into the ceiling caused the roof to break and start to fall. I was caught off guard when I started to float upwards.
"It's getting a little noisy in here, let's fine some place quieter." As Myotismon spoke Gatomon and I floated out of the hole in the ceiling alongside Myotismon, the bat Digimon and Phantomon.
"Not so fast!" Matt bolted to the shattered window.
"WereGarurumon!" At Matt's call WereGarurumon started to move, coming after us.
I was sat on the ground and not even a couple seconds later WereGarurumon was in front of us. A lot of things happened all at once. Kabuterimon Digivolved to MegaKabuterimon as well as Garudamon brought up another Digimon.
"We need you! Get Kari MegaKabuterimon, go!" Izzy yelled the words.
"Horn Buster!" MegaKabuterimon exclaimed as he came towards us, aiming at Myotismon.
The only response that Myotismon gave was raising his hand and turning it towards WereGarurumon. To my surprise Myotismon managed to make MegaKabuterimon turn completely and go straight at WereGarurumon. WereGarurumon was knocked back and over the edge but grabbed onto the railing to stop himself from falling to the ground.
"Crimson Lightning!" Myotismon whipped WereGarurumon with the red energy which resulted with WereGarurumon losing his grip and starting a descent to the ground below.
"Oh, that's got to hurt." I looked at Myotismon and everything in me urged me to do something.
Before I could lash out and do something I would probably regret I watched as a ball of light crashed into Myotismon's back. I turned to look and to my surprise it was Wizardmon. Wizardmon was still in some kind of stance.
"Kari here, catch!" Wizardmon moved and threw something at me and I caught it even though I thought my body wouldn't move.
"It's Wizardmon!" Gatomon sounded overjoyed but she had every reason to be – he was her best friend after all.
"So, you're still alive?" Myotismon on the other hand sounded far from happy.
"That's right, it'll take more than the likes of you to destroy me." Wizardmon stared Myotismon down, unafraid while I put the necklace on.
"We will see!" I looked back to Myotismon to see him raise his hand and some ball of light appeared – the ball of light was shot at Wizardmon and when it hit him it drove him backwards through the air.
I gasped as I watched Wizardmon slam into the wall. Cracks appeared which was testament to how hard Wizardmon had hit the wall. Wizardmon fell forwards from the wall and hit the ground. He laid there motionless.
"No, Wizardmon!" I thought Gatomon was going to run to him, I wouldn't have been surprised.
"Now, give that to me you little brat." I turned to face Myotismon, I caught sight of Gatomon doing the same from my peripheral vision.
I grabbed the tag and crest that I had put around my neck and backed away, "No!"
"That wasn't a request!" Myotismon raised his hand and I gripped the necklace tighter.
"Wait!" Tai's voice cut through the air and actually caused Myotismon to pause for some reason.
"You just picked on the wrong guy's little sister mister fang face!" I grinned when I was able to see Tai.
"Kari, here catch!" Tai cocked his arm back before throwing the Digivice.
I caught it and held it up showing Tai that I had gotten it. Yet just as that dream flashed through my mind where that would only get it stolen by the pesky DemiDevimon it was too late to correct it because he had already swooped down and stole it from my hand.
"I got the Digivice, you can thank me after you take over the world boss." I glared at DemiDevimon as he spoke.
"That's nice work, go and get them Phantomon!" I looked to Phantomon only to witness him starting to head towards Tai and Greymon.
"Greymon Digivolve to MetalGreymon!" Tai grinned and pointed at Phantomon.
"Time out!" Phantomon retreated from the much bigger and threatening looking MetalGreymon now.
"Go get him MetalGreymon!" At Tai's words MetalGreymon stood straighter.
The thing on MetalGreymon's chest opened, "Giga Blaster!"
The missiles that were launched from MetalGreymon only got a certain distance to Myotismon before Myotismon raised his arms. With hands outstretched the attack just vanished, as if deleted from existents completely.
"But how?" Tai echoed the question that I wondered silently.
"Horn Buster!"
"Vulcan's Hammer!"
"Wing Blade!"
"Flower Cannon!"
The four attacks went rocketing at Myotismon. I was certain that the attack would hit him, there was no way that all four attacks wouldn't hit him. Myotismon raised his arms and just like that, the attacks that drew close to him vanished just like MetalGreymon's attack. I was stunned that none of the attacks had hit Myotismon.
"Are you done? I'm bored!" I gripped my necklace tighter and looked at it.
"It's time to finish you off!" As Myotismon spoke I released my necklace and curled my hands into fists.
"Nightmare-!" A burst of light from behind Myotismon made him stop.
"Patamon Digivolve to Angemon!" As Angemon emerged from the light Myotismon turned to look at him.
"Now what?" Myotismon sounded annoyed while Angemon cocked his arm back while an orange aura surrounded it.
"Hand of Fate!" The attack from Angemon slammed into Myotismon and knocked him off of his feet.
Phantomon was also hit but he just vanished in comparison to Myotismon. Myotismon while didn't vanish was actually brought to his knees. Myotismon hugged himself in pain.
"Have you had enough or do you want some more?" Angemon was in the air as he stared down at the shaking Myotismon.
"Actually I was about to ask you the same question!" As Myotismon said that he stood and turned.
He spread his arms out, from knees with arms spread out while facing me seemed to have happened in one motion. I froze because I knew what was about to come because once again the dream flashed into my head. I had to do something!
"Grisly Wing!" A swarm of bats came flying towards Gatomon and me.
My fingers twitched and I thought back to everything I had witnessed while fighting with Takuya, Koji, and Koichi. I tried to move but it felt like something rooted me to my spot. It felt like my body was frozen solid. I felt like I was suddenly an outsider looking in. I felt like I was being forced to watch everything without the ability or possibility to do anything at all.
Watch.
Wizardmon appeared in front of Gatomon and me. The attack was blocked by Wizardmon – he had used his body to shield us. As his torn and tattered hat flew through the air horror washed through my body and when my grip loosened I realized that I could move once again. I stared as Wizardmon flew backwards and landed still on the ground.
"Next time, don't get in my way!" Myotismon snapped but I stared at Wizardmon, horrified.
I couldn't find the strength to move but I did after a few seconds. I rushed to Wizardmon's side and sunk to my knees.
"Wizardmon! You're gonna be alright? Please, don't leave Wizardmon." As I managed to hold back tears Wizardmon turned his head to look at Gatomon.
"Are you alright, Gatomon?" I glanced at Gatomon, tears were falling from her eyes.
"You saved me," Gatomon hung her head, "I'm sorry."
"About what?" Wizardmon sounded like he had absolutely no regrets.
"Sorry I got you involved in all this." Gatomon raised her head slightly and stared into Wizardmon's eyes.
"Don't be sorry. I don't have any regrets. If I hadn't met you, my life wouldn't have had any meaning." Wizardmon closed his eyes and I saw a bit of a smile edge from below the cape part that surrounded his face.
"I'm glad that you and I were friends." Tears stung at my eyes.
"That's forever." Gatomon muttered the words.
"Thank you, for everything Gatomon." Wizardmon moved so he could stare at the sky.
"Wizardmon." I called his name.
"Are you okay? Please answer." This couldn't be happening.
"Kari, here!" Tai's voice barely through but I managed to stand and catch the Digivice that Tai threw to me.
I gripped it tightly. I wouldn't let this go. No, not this time. I couldn't stand back and be defenseless again. I won't let someone else get hurt because of me! Wizardmon shielded Gatomon and me, he took the attack that was supposed to be ours.
"No, not her!" Myotismon sounded so worried.
"Gatomon Digivolve to Angewomon!" I stared at her surprised.
"Gatomon is an angel?" How did she become an angel?
"Myotismon, you've tried to destroy the DigiDestined and attempted to conquer earth in doing so you have ruined the life of Digimon and humans alike. How can you justify yourself?" I just stared at the scene surprised.
"I don't have to explain myself to you. It is my destiny to plunge this world into darkness and become king of the Digital World and no angel or Digimon will stop me!" Myotismon didn't seem shaken at all.
"Myotismon, don't you have any regrets for anything you have done?" Angemon asked it but Myotismon merely chuckled.
"Yes, not ended this long ago!" Something changed – I could feel something shift.
Angewomon raised her arms above her head, "Heaven's-"
Without a word spoke the red energy whip cracked through the air and struck Angewomon in the side. Angewomon's attack stopped and she was flung through the air but she caught herself with her wings so she didn't go far.
"Hand of Fate!" The orange aura went at Myotismon once again but Myotismon held his hand up, stopping the attack this time.
"You had your one time. I am through playing games." Something wasn't right – the air about Myotismon seemed to have changed suddenly.
"With the Eighth Child fighting alongside of you I am through playing games – everyone needs to fall now." Myotismon snapped and I didn't know what to expect.
A vile light seemed to appear around DemiDevimon, it had pulled everyone's attention. DemiDevimon was screaming suddenly. He seemed to be trying to plead for his life but the pleas fell on the deaf ears of whoever had caused that since he obviously didn't.
"Devidramon." Myotismon spoke the name dismissively as the vile light disappeared to reveal a black dragon like Digimon had replaced DemiDevimon.
I didn't get a good look at it because it shot through the air in a blur. I realized where it was aiming and as I opened my mouth to scream to Angewomon to watch out it was already too late. Devidramon had torn past her and it took seconds for the cuts to appear. Instead of blood gushing out data rushed out of the cuts.
"Angewomon!" I called out terrified.
"Flower Cannon!" Lillymon's attack missed Devidramon and he darted towards her while Angewomon barely managed to shoot an arrow before she turned back into Gatomon.
I spun on my feet to see why she had shot an arrow so close to me but the arrow had embedded itself into the ground behind me. The arrow had dispersed into a shield like thing and the bats that belonged to Myotismon's Grisly Wing attack crashed into the shield that had been created.
"Hand of Fate!"
"Giga Blaster!" The two attacks went at Myotismon but Myotismon jumped dodging the attack instead of deflecting it like before.
The two attacks collided and dust went everything. I coughed as I was engulfed in the dust cloud and closed my eyes on instinct. I heard someone scream and something crash onto the ground close behind me. There were so many crashing sounds all at once that it was hard to process at once.
"Kari!" I opened my eyes when my name was shouted – it was Matt though.
Dust still shrouded me but there was mist mixed in. The mist was making it hard to see an arm's length away from me.
"I'm here!" I called out, not sure of what was going on.
"Just run!" Matt shouted it as he barreled out of the mist, grabbing my arm without pause.
I ran but was completely confused. I was about to ask before I heard a crashing sound behind us. I heard an angry animalistic howl break through the mist. There was a strong gust that cleared the mist and when I looked back I saw a sight that I hadn't been prepared to see. The others who had been in the room were missing, I wasn't sure where they had gone. A pink ball like creature was over where Tai had been while Tai was missing. There were other tiny creatures lying around on the ground while Devidramon had his eyes locked on Matt and me. Myotismon was missing but I didn't get to linger on that thought when Devidramon shot through the air towards Matt and me.
I screamed, for two reasons. The first reason was that Devidramon had already reached us and had been slashing towards us. The second was because despite the attack managing to miss us Matt and I were suddenly falling through the air. When something caught us I looked – it was WereGarurumon.
"What happened!?" I stared at Matt.
"T-that's, ah don't worry about that right now!" Matt seemed frantic.
WereGarurumon landed on the ground but Devidramon didn't stop his chase. Something was wrong. Where was Tai? Where was Agumon? Where was Gatomon? What happened to the others? I was terrified and I had no answers at all. The dream had failed me and turned out worse than how it had turned out.
"Where did my brother go?" I demanded that as WereGarurumon ran from Devidramon, still holding Matt and me.
"Angemon grabbed him and flew off while MetalGreymon said he would try to stop anyone from chasing after them since the others managed to sneak off while their partners held off the attacks from Myotismon." Matt kept looking back and he seemed completely rattled.
"This isn't good. Something has to be done, he's gaining on us WereGarurumon!" The panic that was Matt's voice brought back all of the fear that I had managed to bottle up.
"I-I'm scared." Matt looked at me.
That right.
He didn't try to say anything. He bit his lip and looked away, looking conflicted.
"Demonic Gale." The voice was dead.
My eyes widened as there was at first just a gentle gust from Devidramon shooting through the air above us, far faster than he had been before. The gentle gust was quickly followed by a massive shockwave that tore up concrete and flung WereGarurumon through the air. WereGarurumon held tight to Matt and me as we were flung. WereGarurumon slammed into the ground hard but he had lost his grip on Matt and me. Even when we hit the ground Matt took the impact and the breath was easily knocked out of him.
"WereGarurumon!" I called out when I saw him starting to glow.
"Crimson Claw!" I watched horrified as Devidramon just tore into WereGarurumon.
"No!" Matt somehow found the breath to shout the word out while I choked on a sob.
Devidramon shredded the now smaller creature that WereGarurumon had turned into.
"Tsunomon!" Matt cried out the name as the creature, Tsunomon, burst into data.
Devidramon lifted its head as it turned to look at Matt. Devidramon stared us down and something about the look in its four crimson eyes seemed to rob me of the ability to move. I felt like I was paralyzed and rooted to the spot once again. Devidramon shifted and instead of spreading its wings and flying it began to walk towards us on all four of its legs.
"This isn't happening. This can't be happening." Matt was in disbelief, his words gave it away.
Tis only the beginning of your nightmare.
Devidramon charged us suddenly and I could barely register how fast he was going. I tried to move but I couldn't. My arm was grabbed and I was being dragged behind as Matt clumsily ran. My feet barely moved, my body barely registered the fact that it had to run. The ground shook and I feared that Devidramon had used Demonic Gale again but debris were sent flying from behind and most flew past harmlessly. It apparently was only a distraction.
Devidramon rammed into Matt seconds later. My arm was released and I tumbled to the ground while Matt was flung a good distance. Devidramon charged him and I feared what I would witness. I couldn't turn my head. I could find any kind of ability to close my eyes. I couldn't even find the ability to open my mouth to scream something to somehow distract Devidramon. Matt was saved by a golden rod slamming into Devidramon's side and sending him flying though.
Angemon started to spin his rod quickly, "Omni Typhoon!"
A typhoon seemed to just be created and it crashed into Devidramon. Devidramon faulted as it tried to withstand the attack. Devidramon let out a howl as it managed to escape the attack and it was going to dive at Angemon but Angemon cocked his arm back with the orange aura surrounding his hand. He froze though when all four of Devidramon's crimson eyes settled on him. Devidramon dived at him with claws ready to tear through him but Devidramon started to break apart and vanished before he managed to hit Angemon.
"Matt!" I watched at T.K. ran to Matt's side while Tai ran out after him.
"Kari!" Tai ran to me and dropped to his knees beside me.
"Crimson Lightning!" We all looked when we heard Myotismon call that out and no one had time to react – not even Angemon.
Angemon was struck across the back by the whip of lightning. Angemon was whipped multiple times while T.K. was yelling at Myotismon to stop but Myotismon didn't stop. Angemon reverted back to Patamon as he crashed into the ground.
"Seems like even the eighth child won't stop me!" Myotismon laughed as he went to whip Patamon but Patamon didn't get struck.
"T.K.!" Tai screamed in worry as T.K. was struck and sent flying.
"Aw, how valiant!" Myotismon cackled.
"First Wizardmon and now the child." I found the ability to stand and I curled my hands into fists.
"Where is WereGarurumon?" Tai asked the question quietly, trying not to let Myotismon hear I guess.
"Devidramon got him." Tai looked from Myotismon to me.
"Got him, as in?" I nodded and Tai ground his teeth.
"So, why don't you hand yourself over once again? If you do that I'll leave your friends alone." Tai shoved me behind him.
"I'm not giving you my sister!" Tai shouted but Myotismon only narrowed his eyes.
"I'll just take her by force then." Myotismon held his hand out and the same ball of light that appeared when he first attacked Wizardmon.
"Why do you want me so badly?" I couldn't help but ask the question.
Why was he after me? Was he just wanting to stop me from fighting? He already easily had Gatomon defeated. He put on a whole show instead of just deleting Gatomon when he found out that she was the eighth child's partner. Why was he putting up so much struggle to get me instead of just making me unable to fight? There was something that wasn't adding up and it didn't make sense.
"If we get even just one, especially you, nothing will ever touch the plan." His words confused me and I wasn't sure why he even answered me actually.
"Hand yourself over and I'll spare your dear big brother." I curled my hands into fists.
"I said you'll never get her!" Tai stepped forwards.
"What can you do to stop me?! Your partner isn't even here!" Myotismon was right sadly, I didn't see Agumon anywhere.
"Well, to get my sister you have to go through me!" Tai shifted and he looked like he was ready to fight.
"You can't be serious Tai!" He wouldn't seriously try to take Myotismon on himself, would he?
"She's right, you can't be serious. Your partner cannot even take me on and you think that you can?" Myotismon laughed and I ground my feet into the ground to stop Tai from running at Myotismon.
"Tai!" I closed my eyes as I held onto Tai as tight as I could.
"Tai's not alone! We won't let you have her!" I opened my eyes as Sora's words reached my ears.
"Wing Blade!"
"Horn Buster!"
"Vulcan's Hammer!"
"Flower Cannon!"
I watched the attacks and I had a feeling that they would just be batted away but Myotismon didn't get a chance to move. Greymon came from nowhere and managed to grab Myotismon since Myotismon had been focused on attempting to block the attack. Myotismon took the attacks but so did Greymon. The two of them were sent flying, Greymon farther than Myotismon since Myotismon managed to stop himself.
"You pesky brats are getting annoying!" Myotismon made the movements for his Grisly Wing attack but he was stopped, golden sparkles seemed to rain down from the sky.
"Heaven's Charm!" I quickly looked for Angewomon and I smiled when I saw her – she was ok!
"Lend your power everyone!" The circle above her glowed and I watched Myotismon, surprised that he wasn't trying to stop her.
"You'll pay for this! You'll regret this!" Myotismon yelled the words without moving – was he paralyzed somehow?
"Nova Blast!"
"Wing Blade!"
"Horn Buster!"
"Vulcan's Hammer!"
"Flower Cannon!"
The five attacks entered the ring that floated about Angewomon but didn't exit the other side.
"Bukamon!"
"Yokomon!"
"Motimon!"
"Tanemon!"
The five different names were shouted all at once. Zudomon, Birdramon, MegaKabuterimon and Lillymon had gone too much smaller forms and they all seemed to pass out. I looked to Angewomon unsure of what she was going to do. Light gathered around her raised hand and she moved, the wings on the side of her other hand spread out to make it look like a bow. She made the motion of notching an arrow and an arrow of light formed while a string also appeared.
"Do it Angewomon!" Everyone was cheering – could they also feel that the power of that arrow was enough to potentially end this battle?
Ha, ha, ha, ha do you think this battle will end that easily!? No chance in hell!
I watched Angewomon get ready to fire the arrow there was a flicker of something and then thousands of bats descended upon Angewomon. Squeaks from the bats flooded the air and Angewomon released the arrow but it missed Myotismon. As the arrow flew Myotismon managed to move and then the arrow that would've just hit a building curved with a flick of Myotismon's hand, the arrow was suddenly coming straight at Tai and me.
Suddenly my sight was blocked because Tai grabbed me and wrapped me tight in his arms. He held me tightly – prepared to shield me with his body. I heard something hit the ground and slowly Tai released me, turning to look.
"Koromon!" Tai didn't even get to reach Koromon before Koromon vanish, the remaining light of the arrow fading from where it had somehow been stopped Koromon.
As Tai dropped to his knees I noticed it. Something red was starting to stain the back of Tai's shirt. Nothing was going right. Why couldn't we defeat Myotismon? Was something wrong maybe? There was no way that with everyone together we would lose. Well at this rate we would since now both Gabumon and Agumon were gone. I glanced to Patamon only to see that he was gone – shimmering specks that lingered in the air told me a sad truth, Patamon was gone as well.
"Everyone is falling one by one. Why don't you be a good friend and hand yourself over once more?" I looked to Myotismon.
"You have no more hope, there is no one who is able to beat me." My eyes widened as Gatomon was brought to him by the bats however Gatomon glowed slightly and she was in a smaller form and she didn't even move.
Myotismon tossed the now different form Gatomon up into the air, "Without her you pose no threat to me."
"Crimson Lightning!" I had rushed forwards but it was too late – the lightning whip cut into Gatomon and I watched as she cracked before shattering.
"Gatomon!" I cried out her name.
This was my fault. This was all my fault! Everyone was getting hurt because of me. Was there anything that I could do to change this? There was no way that we could defeat Myotismon. If I give myself up then he might leave the others alone. With me then he will have accomplished whatever goal he has, right?
"Kari." Tai's voice was weak as he called my name.
I turned to look at Tai and found that the red stain had grown to cover most of his back. He stared at me, as if pleading me not to give in. As I stared into his eyes I couldn't deal with how much pain was visible on his face. He was in so much pain because of what's going on while what's going on is all because of me. All of Tai's pain was because of me. Not only Tai but Matt and T.K. as well. They were hurt because of me. Gabumon, Agumon, Patamon, and Gatomon were gone because me. Wizardmon as well.
"Don't, do it." My eyes widened as Tai collapsed forwards.
"Tai!" I rushed to Tai's side.
I knelt beside Tai but he didn't respond. I reached out to touch him but I couldn't bring myself to touch him. My hands shook as I stared at him. Tears started to fall and I hung my head while my arms dropped so they hung by my side. I couldn't stand the guilt that was now eating at my heart.
"You'll leave them alone if I go with you?" I barely got the words out of my mouth as I stood up.
"Surrender to me." Myotismon's voice was cold but I curled my hands into fists.
I raised my head to look to the others. Sora was staring at Tai, seemingly in a trance while Mimi had her eyes covered, shaking and probably not wanting to believe what she saw or refusing to see what was going on. Joe held Bukamon but he was staring at me while Izzy wouldn't look up from the ground.
"I'm sorry Tai." I turned towards Myotismon.
I curled my hands into fists. I wanted to do something but I couldn't fight. There was no way for me to fight. Gatomon was gone so the Digivice that I had was worthless. The only thing that I'm doing is getting others hurt.
"Good girl." Myotismon's word made me cringe.
"Kari!" Sora shouted my name when I started to walk towards Myotismon.
The bats that had just been hanging around came at me and I closed my eyes. I waited for pain but no pain greeted. I opened my eyes slowly – terrified to see that maybe someone else had shielded me. I was surrounded by darkness. Within the darkness though there were three flickering lights – one was blue, one was yellow and the last was orange. I watched as slowly the lights took the form of Matt, T.K. and Tai.
They stared at me but they didn't say anything. They all looked so sad. Slowly Matt looked away from me and he looked angry suddenly. T.K. hung his head and his body shook. Tai though, looking at Tai broke my heart. Tai fell to his knees and started to bawl his eyes out. I wanted to run to Tai but once more my body seemed frozen in place and I was unable to move.
This is the end.
Also just to clarify the parts like 'this is the end' Kari does not hear at all. That's why she didn't react to them.
