Chapter 15: Lewis And Carroll
It had been nine months since Alice first told Jervis that she was pregnant, and the day had come that she was finally giving birth to their child. They were both currently at Gotham General and in the birthing unit while Alice was currently in labor and in a great deal of pain. She really was having trouble as she had never felt this kind of pain before in her life, but she knew it would all be worth it in the end as she and were husband would become parents. Jervis had been with Alice every second ever since they first checked in and was currently holding her hand as she was going through this painful, but at the same time wonderful endeavor. "You're doing great, Alice. It will all be over soon. You just need to hang in there for a little while longer. Remember, just take some deep breaths and that'll help you get through it easier.", Jervis said to her while still holding her hand. "I'm trying, but it just hurts so badly.", Alice said while trying to calm herself down with some deep breaths and holding his hand tightly. "I know, but just try to breath as calmly as possible. This a happy moment for the both of us and it will all be fine in the end.", he assured her. She nodded in response and tried to focus more on her breathing. The nurse who was helping deliver the baby started to say, "Okay, Alice. I think we're just about there. I can tell the baby is definitely almost out, but you gotta stay strong.". "Okay.", Alice said with seating pouring down her face and breathing heavy again. "I think I see a head. Give one last push.", the nurse instructed her. Alice did as she was told and gave one last push despite how painful it was. Her screams of pain eventually changed into the cries of a baby as the nurse suddenly held their child in her arms. "It's a boy.", the nurse said. Both Jervis and Alice looked in wonder and amazement at their newborn son. The nurse handed the boy off to his father while Jervis was still looking in amazement at his child. "Oh, Jervis. He's beautiful. He looks just like you.", she said to him. "Yes, I suppose he does. And yes, he is beautiful. Welcome to the world, son.", he said as he stared at the boy. Alice began to feel pain again and started to cry in pain. Jervis noticed this while still holding the baby and asked, "Alice, what's wrong?". The nurse went back over to her and saw another head poking out. "Oh, my! She's having another one!", the nurse said as she was getting ready to deliver again. "Okay, Alice. One more time.", the nurse said. Alice gave her last amount of strength to push the second baby out. Another baby's cries began to fill the room as the nurse held their second child. "It's a girl.", the nurse said as she brough the baby girl over to her mother. "She's beautiful as well. I see she gets that from her mother.", he said to her as she held to the baby girl in her arms. Alice held the baby girl in her arms and looked down at her lovingly while Jervis did the same for the boy. "I'll give you two some time to get acquainted with your newborns.", the nurse said as she made her way out. "Thank you for everything, nurse.", they both said as the nurse left. They looked at the kids for a few minutes as they eased their crying before Alice spoke up. "So, what should we call them?", she asked him. "I think it's fair that I name the boy and you name the girl.", he said. "Fair enough.", she said. "I think I would like to name our son, Lewis.", he said. "Just like Lewis Carroll?", she asked. "Indeed. And what would you like to name our daughter?", he asked. "I think I would like to name her Carroll.", she said. "Oh, clever. Are you sure you want to name her that? You don't have to name her that because of me.", he said. "No, I want to. I think Carroll is a perfect name for her.", she said. "Very well. Welcome to the world, Lewis and Carroll.", Jervis said as they continued to look at the newborns lovingly and were looking forward to raising these two to be the best that they can be.
