They had enough to get themselves some food. On the way home, Will tried to tell jokes. It seemed to work a little, because El was laughing. The first day of their new lives was successful. With lifted spirits for Monday, Will kept on telling jokes. He was theatrical, just like Mike was when he was with El.

Turns out Will was wrong. Monday morning was pretty good until they pulled up to the school. Both Will and El looked completely unlike themselves. Messy brown hair and black jeans, and a leather jacket. Will would never go to school in a leather jacket or with messy hair. But here he was. El looked somewhat like him. No messy hair, El's hair looked nice and she didn't have black jeans on or a leather jacket. Baggy blue jeans, a white t-shirt, and an old flannel that used to be Jonathan's. This was a great way to blend in, Will thought. "Are you ready?" El asked. Will just shook his head and proceeded on to the school building.

It felt like everyone was looking at them. Will didn't like this feeling. And he's pretty sure El didn't like it either. Before he could even blink, there was a girl in front of him. "Hi. I'm Stacy. I will be showing you around the school today." the girl said. Will just stood there with an eyebrow raised. "Follow me." Stacy said. Will knew El would pay attention, so he just let his mind drift. It wasn't long before he stopped listening, that the tour was over. "Any questions?" Stacy asked. Will and El both shook their heads. "Ok, just head to the office and they will give you your class schedules." she said. Both of them made their way to the office. When they entered they both were unsure of where to go. "What do we do?" El whispered. "I have no clue." Will whispered back. It was loud and crowded with students. Not too many. But the students were all talking loudly.

"Hey are two new?" a lady asked. Both shook their heads. "Okay, follow me. I'll get your schedules." Will and El followed the lady. "What's your name?" she said pointing to Will. "Um..Will- I mean- William Byers." Will stuttered out. "You. What's your name?" she pointed to El. "Um..El- Sorry. I mean Jane Byers." El stuttered out as well. "Brother and sister, eh."the lady said. "Well I'm Candace. I am the secretary. I help kids find their schedules and more." Candace said. Will saw El fidgeting with the blue hair tie on her wrist. She was nervous. "Are you alright, young lady?" Candace asked El. El stood there awkwardly, but she was still fidgeting. Will saw this and spoke up. "My sister, it's her first time in a public school," Will said. Candace looked at him oddly. "She was adopted and was homeschool for a few years." Will said. He didn't like saying El was adopted. It sounded wrong coming from his tongue. Candace didn't looked convinced. "Her father passed away last year. He homeschooled her." Will said. But Hopper didn't die last year, it was only a few months ago. "There is nothing to worry about. You are going to be fine. I had jitters on my first day too." Candace said.

"Here are your schedules. Stick to em'. And if you need help, ask a teacher. They'll be happy to help." Candace said.

"Are you okay?" Will asked once they were out of the office. "I'm okay." El responded. Will stopped and turned to her, "El, if there is anything wrong, you can tell me." She only nodded. "Okay, let's see where we are supposed to be." he said. Will looked at his schedule and then at El's. "Okay third period, El you are going to the English classroom. And I'm going to history. Ugh." Will said. "Hey, it's going to be okay. I'll see you at lunch." Will said. He gently reached for her hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. "See you at lunch." El said.
