When I got home from work that night I was completely drained. I immediately put my things down and went to bed. I woke the next morning feeling almost completely back to normal. I ate a decent breakfast, did my home routine and went to work, but as soon as I got there I felt ill again. Today my co-worker Kendall was working with me today, so my work load wouldn't be as heavy and for once I was entirely grateful for her company. Not that she wasn't nice, I just hate talking to people.
"Hey Isabella," she called. Another thing about the people I knew here, they didn't know my preferred nickname and I just couldn't find it in me to correct them.
"How are you Kendall?"
"Ummm I'm good," she paused looking at my face for a second, " Are you ok, you look like you're going to be sick?"
"Uh, yeah one second," I said as another wave of nausea fit me. Once again I covered my mouth with my hand, sprinited to the bathroom, and threw up my breakfast. I heard the click of Kendall's heels on the tile of the bathroom floor.
"Isabella?"
"In here," I called as I opened the stall door. She looked at me with a bewildered expression.
"What," I asked, getting a little frustrated.
"Nothing, are you ok?"
"Yeah I think so. It's just a bug, I haven't been feeling well for a while."
"Ok, are you ready to go back out," she asked. I nodded and we both excited the bathroom.
A couple hours later I felt completely normal again, we were taking out our lunches for break after we had closed up for the next hour. We chatted a bit and caught up, but all for a sudden I felt violently sick again, but this time I knew I wasn't going to make it to the bathroom, so I reached for the nearest trash can and threw up again.
"God this is so annoying," I complained.
"That's so weird you don't really look sick." She was looking at me in a weird way again and I didn't like it.
"Are you going to tell me why you keep looking at me like that!"
"Um, yeah," she paused, " I'm going to run to the drug store really quick. I'll be right back."
"Hey," I yelled at her retreating form, but she was already gone. I went to the bathroom to wash out my mouth and when I came back I started reorganizing bookshelves.
About 30 minutes later Kendall walked back into the Library.
"Hey, why did you just leave like that," I questioned. I looked at what she had brought in and all I could see were two rectangular boxes. She handed them to me. I looked at the label and scoffed.
"Seriously?! I'm not pregnant, are you out of your mind."
"I'm not stupid Isabella. I know the signs when I see them."
"Fuck, no way. I can't!" she grabbed my hands and made me look at her.
"Hey, we don't even know if it's true, let's just see ok?" I nodded stiffly and followed her to the bathroom.
"I'll wait outside," she said. "No matter what happens, you're going to be ok." she looked at me with sincere eyes and I nodded again. I went inside and walked into the middle stall. I followed the instructions and did both of the tests, now I just had to wait. I walked out and Kendall's face snapped toward mine.
"What does it say?"
"3 minutes," I said looking at my feet.
"I can't do this, I'm only 19. I can't be a mom." I started to cry. She pulled my hands away from my face.
"It's your choice and I know you don't have your life together, but do you know who the father would be?" Jake. Shit!
"Yes." We waited the remainder of the time until I looked at the wall clock and saw it was time. I looked down at the tests and burst into tears and clung to Kendall like she was life support.
