Chapter 3: Inner Turmoil

For students, the weekends always take a long time to arrive and for Inuyasha… this was the longest week of his life between Miroku pinging him constantly for his date details and him hovering his finger over the "cancel" option. It's been rough for the teenager, but he can't think about it anymore. Tomorrow was the day. The date with Kagome. The day his credit card will be charged. The day he's going to speak with a real female (albeit… he's paying for it)... but it counts, right?

With one final huff, Inuyasha went to sleep eagerly for tomorrow.

Inuyasha was up bright and early on Saturday morning. Actually, it was more like he barely got any sleep in the first place because his subconscious kept nagging him about his date with Kagome. The website only required a profile picture (so dates can locate each other) and his credit card information so he wasn't sure how Kagome was going to react to his appearance.

Things have gotten somewhat better for him now that he's an adult, but it was tough when he was a child. Demons and humans being together wasn't necessarily a bad thing unless it resulted in a pregnancy… which his parents did.

While Inuyasha loved his parents dearly, he didn't have the best childhood growing up and he knew why. Full-blooded demons considered him trash and humans considered him a monster. If there was one thing both sides agreed on… it was half-demons were the worst of the worst and that left him with a lot of anger and resentment inside… but let's table that thought for now because he has a date today.

With a groan, he got up and started getting ready. Sure it was 8:00am right now and the date wasn't till 11:00am, but no one had to know he was eager, right?

Meeting location was set the night before the date: Harajuku right underneath the Takeshita Street Entrance gate. If there was a miracle for today, it'd be the two of them finding each other right away despite the mass of tourists and locals walking through.

The morning was nerve-racking. Inuyasha doesn't take a lot of time getting ready in the morning, but he sure wished he told himself to slow down even more this morning for his date. After taking a shower, brushing his teeth, and drinking a cup of coffee, it was still a couple hours away from his meeting time with Kagome and his right leg would not stop shaking.

His phone vibrated.

Good luck today! Send me pics of her (insert winky face) the text read. He didn't need to read the name to know who sent that message. With a scowl on his face, Inuyasha replied no and started his journey over to Harajuku. If he was going to be alone in his thoughts he might as well be alone while traveling to the location.

He was slightly early. Girls love that, right? It shows them the guy cares. That he's excited. That he wants this, too. Right? Oh god, his inner voice was silent. No one was replying.

This is the worst he thought as he looked at the mass of people walking by him, his eyes zoning in on any and every woman his age with wavy black hair and shining brown eyes. Having struck out five-for-five so far, he was starting to lose hope he'd ever find her. Sure, the date was confirmed on the website, but the website seemed sketchy and sure, he made the conscious choice to input his credit card number, but banks understand people act under duress, right? So, he could call and claim he was not himself at the time of purchase and fight the charge if necessary… but he really wants this date with Kagome. If she was real. God, he hopes she is real…

At that moment, despite the major turmoil going through his head, he chose that moment to look up and what met him was brown eyes staring right back at him. Brown eyes belonging to a young woman with wavy black hair cascading down her back wearing a simple and modest yellow sundress with white sandals. But what caught Inuyasha's eyes the most was the bright smile she wore on her face as she looked at him. And then she said the words that Inuyasha was waiting to hear all week.

"Hi, you must be Inuyasha? I'm Kagome" she said in a soft voice as she stretched her right hand out to him.

I hope everyone's safe and well.

Last year was rough and I ended up taking time off to focus on my mental health. It helped and now I'm attempting to get back into writing.
