AN; Couldn't help myself. I would highly recommend the story "The Hero Of Zaun" written by "Writing Shop 12". It's the story that's inspired me to write this and I hope you all like it.
I am still writing the next chapter of the Rise of Zaun. So don't worry.
The Wizard of Zaun.
Chapter 01
Earth…
England…
Greyhorn Manor…
As a child. Alex had been a fan of the Harry Potter book and movies series. It was hard not to as it had been filled with a story that could easily suck a person into, with a narrative most children loved. Alex had been one of those millions of children who could not wait for the next book to be released with the following movie. It was hard not to fall in love with the characters as they had all been well thought up who moved the narrative on even though some of them were heartless bastards and more than once had Alex fantasied about killing them.
It wasn't until his untimely death that he found himself reincarnated into an Ancient Noble House as the Greyhorns that had not been in either the Harry Potter books or movies. The moment he saw his new mother do magic and one of the many House Elf 's taking care of him when neither parent was able to, that Alex knew which fictional world he had been reincarnated into and which backward country he had been plopped into.
More than once had the Death Eaters demanded that his parents join them with the Order of the Phoenix doing the same. Alex liked neither of them since he found both groups ridiculous. One wanted to remove what they consider threats to the old families even though they themselves butchered more of the old families than inbreeding had ever done, and the other group wanted to push their morals onto others and use stunners against people who were consistently firing one-shot kill spells at them. Both sides were just morons in Alex's eye's and he was grateful to have been born to a family that shared the same sentiments and way of thinking.
Thanks to David Greyhorn, Alex's new father, that their family, and other families who wanted nothing to do with the war managed to survive and come out on top, unlike the political landscape that was showcased in the movies and books. Alex's new family was firmly in the Gray side of the Wizengamot which included a number of old and powerful families that looked towards building a more modern Magi future rather than the stagnated one Albus Dumbledore wanted to keep around of the barbaric dictatorship the Tom Riddle wanted to bring into existence.
By the end of the war, fifteen percent of the Wizengamot was held by the Dark Factions and another fifteen percent was held by the Light faction. The remaining seventy percent was in the control of the Grey Faction, something the Dark and the Light Factions frowned at as they discovered the war had left both factions with little to no voice in the Wizengamot when it came to the Grey Faction and it had been something Albus Dumbledore had been trying to "Correct" when the man found his plans stonewalled by people who wouldn't listen to him.
Alex had been kept up to date with the information coming in and out of the Grey House Alliance. More than a few times had Albus Dumbledore tried to blackmail members of the Alliance into siding with him over bills being passed or stonewalled in the Wizengamot, and every time the Alliance pushed back and even gone as far to threaten the man. No one in the Alliance had any love for Albus Dumbledore, and Alex was sure as hell that the old man would move his attention to the children within the Alliance families, if he could not get the older generation to listen to him, then the old goat would use his position in as the Headmaster of Hogwarts to take control over the children instead.
This was something that Alex had taken to David Greyhorn. While it was every kid's, teenager's, and even adult's dream to go to Hogwarts, Alex had found little to no interest in the place, with his mature mind and intellect Alex was able to gain third-year training at the age of ten, something that both David and Alice Greyhorn were more than happy about. While they were pleased with his private tutor lessons and independent training, they made sure that his skills were not leaked out to the public knowing the pros and cons of having a talented prodigy.
As for the threat of Albus Dumbledore having freedom over the children of the Alliance. That all changed thanks to the school board stepping in. It was more than easy for the Alliance to remove the Dark faction members; they were simply paid off and would do anything to gain a bit of the wealth they had lost in the war back. By the time Albus Dumbledore or any of the Light Factions members discovered what was happening it was all too late. With the overwhelming majority of the school board on their side, the Alliance was able to force Albus Dumbledore into making unbreakable vows, something which the man was meant to make before he became Headmaster.
Of course, the old man tried to get out of the oaths by using the name he had invented himself. The Wulfic Brian parts of his name would have made the oaths worthless in the eyes of magic itself and the Alliance was not going to let the man get away with it. When pressed the man tried to use his grandfatherly disappointed look on the Alliance who waved it off, when that didn't work the old man tried to use legilimency on the Alliance members including hidden compulsion charms, which backfired in more ways than one.
At the end of the day, Albus Dumbledore had been dragged off to a cell in the Wizengamot with a team of Aurors and Healers that weren't loyal to him or being blackmailed by the man. Even with all the man's achievements Albus Dumbledore was not a god in any sense and was subjected to the full law like any else was. Sure, the man had supporters both inside and outside of the Wizengamot, but that had slowly been cut away over time thanks to the Alliance.
While Albus Dumbledore claimed he was a firm supporter for the muggleborns, or as the Alliance likes to call them "New Generation", the man had done little to nothing to improve their standings in the Magical world they had invested their childhoods in. The Alliance had been making strives to teach the New Generation the laws and traditions of the Magical world they were getting themselves into, while at the same time they were teaching the Wizards and Witches who had never seen the None-Magi world of the achievements the None-Magi had achieved while also being back Magical Traditional Holliday's that had been removed from Hogwarts and much of the public. It had been a large undertaking by the Alliance and it had proven prosperous on both sides.
In less than a decade, the Alliance had done more for the New Generation than Albus Dumbledore had done in his lifetime. When brought to trial the old man had found little supporters in his corner, when it had been discovered he had been using his invented name to get away with the oaths that protected their children from the Headmaster himself and to ensure that they were properly protected by the Headmaster, more than a few of the Light Faction had lost their trust in the man. His attack on the school board members had been an added bonus in the Alliances' eyes.
It became worse when veritaserum had been used on the old man that a lot of dark secrets started spilling out. Not only had Albus Dumbledore figured out a way past the oaths before becoming Headmaster of Hogwarts, but he had also used his unchained position to mind read and steal secrets from both Noble and Ancient Houses through the use of both legilimency and veritaserum, when caught he would use obliviate on the children which tended cause mental problems as they grow older. There were also a number of compulsion spells and potions used on the children, to the point most of the children were trapped in their own minds and had completely new personalities constructed that were more than happy to do whatever Albus Dumbledore told them to.
It took a week before they got everything out of the old man, and Alex was more than pleased the world wasn't following the narrative from the books and movies. While he and many others who had watched the movies found it odd that Albus Dumbledore failed to do a lot of things to better the Magical world as a whole, it was becoming clear to Alex why. Albus Dumbledore loved being in control of everything and believed he was the only one who was worthy to lead the Magical world in his own twisted way.
The reason he had kept Voldemort's real name hidden from the rest of the world was so that he had another Dark Lord to defeat and spread his name and glory around, this also allowed him to get rid of the families that refused to listen to him while trying to show the Dark families the "Light" as he called it. Albus Dumbledore didn't care how many died in the crossfire as he believe the New Generation could easily be replaced over time and those in the Grey families needed to be removed for their radical ways of thinking. He also said he wanted to remove the Grey families so he could use their children in pilfering their Vaults of riches and tomes that had been locked away for generations.
Needless to say, that many were pissed. The Light Faction left they had been betrayed while a few diehard believers thought the Grey Factions was making Albus Dumbledore say those things. The Dark Faction was inwardly cursing after being hoodwinked by not only Albus Dumbledore who wanted them to follow their Dark Lord, but also the Dark Lord himself who had been born out of love positions, a muggle, and a squib.
When asked about the living conditions of Harry Potter, many paled at what was happening to their little savior. Not only had the boy been put into a family who hated anything magical, but was being treated worse than a House Elf and had no knowledge of the Magical world or even his parents. When the Potter Will was brought out, more and more questions had been asked and answered in turn, with the latter trying his best to not answer anything.
Not only had Albus Dumbledore ignored the Potter Family Will as he had been a witness to the Will, but he had been stealing from the Potter Family Vault ever since he had become the Heirs Magical Guardian. A lot of the money had been moved to members of the Light Factions with much of the Potter property being sold to them. The Grey Families voted to have all the money returned to the Potter Vault along with all artifacts and property ownership to the Potter Family, members of the Light side had tried to argue but were quickly silenced when they found themselves dragged into another court hearing with themselves being judged as compensators and willing participants.
Alex found it more than amusing, that the so-called Light Faction had a number of money grabbers and thieves amongst them. He guessed Albus Dumbledore had been that desperate to get people on his side when the Grey Alliance continually grew stronger over the years. Along with Albus Dumbledore, members of the Light Faction had found themselves being forced to pay back the money the old man had given them and the properties he had sold to them for favors.
By the end of it, all the Light Faction had been decimated to the point they only had a messily nine percent of the Wizengamot votes. Sirius Black had been bought out of Azkaban when it was discovered Albus Dumbledore had left him in there to rot even though the old man knew Sirius was innocent of killing the Potters and Peter Pettigrew as the latter was not only alive but had given Tom Riddle the location of the Potter family when they went into hiding.
Albus Dumbledore was stripped of his titles and thrown into Azkaban at the end of it all. When he was forced to confess what really happened with is fight against Grindelwald and the fact he had done nothing but shoot the man in the back after someone else had done all the hard work while also keeping Grindelwald alive and locked away in his own personal prison, many lost what remaining respect they had for him. The members of the Light Faction that were caught robbing the Potter Family were also sent to Azkaban while also forced to hand back everything they stole.
At the end of the day, Alex didn't need to lift a finger to deal with any of the issues that had been plaguing the Magical world, his father and the Grey Alliance had done everything themselves and were working on removing the Death Eaters who had bribed their way out of prison and who were imbedded in the Ministry of Magic Departments. They were aware of the Horcrux's that Tom Riddle left behind and was doing their best to remove them, Alex had sent a letter to the Grey Alliance through the Goblins who not only knew how to destroy the vile soul-objects but had one unknowingly locked away in one of the Vaults, the letter gave the location of all the Horcrux's and the best ways to quickly destroy them.
Before his first year of Hogwarts, Alex could breathe easy knowing he did not have to deal with any Dark Lord or his Death Eaters. He could move forward ad study magic while also discovering new spells and improvements to add to the Greyhorn Grimoire which was growing in volume, already within two years of his schooling at Hogwarts which had been completely overhauled in its teaching methods to get up to date with the rest of the world had Alex created five spells, three runes and discovered a method in bringing magic and None-Magi technology together.
Through logic, his understanding of many types of magic, and None-Magi technology had Alex was able to create a new form of magic and technology. Upon its discovery and reveal to the world that Alex was brought to the spotlight, he was already at the time was considered one of the world's greatest young prodigies, his discovery of what was quickly being called Magi-Tech.
The ICW and the British Ministry of Magic were practically acting jumping up and down when Magi-Tech was revealed, neither the Light nor Dark Factions wanted their status quo to change and used methods to sabotage and even kill people who were trying to invent the technology, which led to the None-Magi technology and the Magical community being separated for so many decades. Now that Alex had created there was a wave of optimism between the governments and businesses who saw Magi-Tech as one of the largest investment opportunities to hit the Magical world.
The British Ministry of Magic and ICW wanted to use Alex as the poster boy for Magi-Tech, something Alex found to be a waste of time and effort in his mind. Rather than Cornelius Fudge the British Minister of Magic the job had gone to a Cherry Blackfeathers who had been instrumental in capturing and occasional killing Death Eaters during the war could trace their family history back to Rowena Ravenclaw. Alex knew his father had something to do with Cherry coming into the position of Minister of Magic but never questioned it, Cornelius Fudge had been a person who was more than happy to take bribes and do whatever Lucius Malfoy would tell him to as if the man was Merlin or God himself.
Rather than forcing Alex to become her poster boy, Cherry Blackfeathers left him alone to do his own thing. Alex's father and mother were more than enough to promote the Magi-Tech and were members of the Grey Alliance.
Alex was left to his own devices he started working on a project, that if worked like he believed it would, would change both the None-Magi and Magical world forever.
Sprawled across the cold metal floor were a number of runes carved and melted into it. What Alex was trying to perform something had never been attempted due to the lacking Magi-Tech and the methods he was using that would have been considered impossible five years ago.
Being someone who had been reincarnated into another world, one that had been based on fiction, he believed there were other worlds out there that could be traveled to and all he needed was to discover the magic and technology that would allow him to create a gateway between world. The Greyhorn Ancestral Manor had been built on top of a Ley Line connection point much like Hogwarts, using the Ley Lines as a medium and power source Alex believed he could physically create a gateway to another world.
Alex was more than prepared in case something was to happen to him or he was trapped in another world for a time. His little sister, three years younger would be more than perfect as the heir to the Greyhorn family, Alex had left documents and information on the transportation runes he had been creating. Survival gear had been packed and shrunken away into his pocket along with a zoo of magical animals and creatures that produced a number of potion ingredients.
Everything had been completed within a year, no one besides his father knew what Alex was trying to perform and the man had been less than pleased when Alex brought his idea to him, there were a number of things that could go wrong and there was a chance that Alex would find himself trapped between worlds rather than arriving in one. But compared to the None-Magi world and the Magical one, the None-Magi's had discovered by taking the first steps into the unknown. Mankind had stepped on the moon decades ago and the British Magical world had been completely unaware besides the New Generation, but it would be the Magical world that traveled across dimensions to other worlds.
With everything done, Alex stepped into the center of the runic circle. The protective gear he wore had been made out of dragon hide and enchanted with its own runes for protection. Spreading his arms out and reaching into his overly large magi-core Alex called upon his magic to kickstart the power in the runic circles. Once the runes powered up, they started absorbing the Ley Lines power keeping the constant runes powered while Alex's magic focused on other things.
"Here we go" Alex said.
"Magicam veterem et novam invoco ut ianuam aperiat et ostende mihi mundum novum" Alex said in the dead language.
While the Magical world might have forgotten the dead language, the None-Magi had ensured to keep records of it with even people who knew how to speak it fluently. Latin, while used amongst the None-Magi centuries ago, the mages and sorcerers of that time were capable of many powerful things with the use of the language, it was only when the language died out was when the spells and feats those generations were able to perform dimmed down and became more refined like it was now.
The type of magic Alex attempting to use would be on the same level as the mages and sorceresses from the past. While the rest of the Magical world was content with the magic and power they had now, Alex wanted to go further and outdo them all.
With the spell activated, Alex felt the gravity around him dim down and his own body started to lift off the ground. The floor started to open up revealing cogs and gears turning underneath, runes had been carved into the gears and would create patterns and larger runes for moments only to create new ones moments after.
The raw amount of magical energy that was being sucked into the machine underneath Alex could be tasted and he could feel the magic itself twisting and turning in ways he never imagined.
"All a part of the plan" Alex said trying to keep himself calm.
The magic in the room was getting thicker Alex was noticing the room around was being blocked out from his view as a sphere of magical energy encased him with runic symbols being carved into them. Alex took note of the symbols and sighed thankfully as the symbols matched with his design. Outside the sphere of magic were robotic arms with runic carving tools as fingers carving the runes into the sphere from the outside.
Cross his arms and legs in a meditative pose. Alex breathed in and out. There was nothing else he could do now, everything he had been working towards would either bear fruit or wither and die.
Runeterra…
Piltover Undercity…
The Jack and Taylor's Steel Mill and Refinery…
The Jack and Taylor's Steel Mill and Refinery had been long abandoned when the company had been brought out by its new owners from Piltover's Topside city. Unlike the previous owners who understood how to run the business properly and made a yearly profit, the new owners turned the once-thriving business into a former shell of itself until they faced bankruptcy and later complete shutdown. Many knew the original owners were forced into signing over their business to the new owners, which left a lot of resentment between the workers who had lost their jobs towards people from Topside.
Right now, the steel mill was left unattended with a brick wall barb wire and steel fence that kept people out. While it did indeed keep most people out, it didn't stop the desperate and those looking for shelter in the Undercity from getting in. Racks of makeshift beds were all over the place with the fire-bins lit to keep people warm or heat up what little food they could scrounge up.
In the refinery part of the factory were a number of children playing together. They were all scruffy looking wearing clothing that was dirty with shoes that had holes in them. Yet they smiled as they played simple games with toys that had been pulled from bins and cleaned or cobbled together by some of the adults. One of the older teens who weren't out pick pocking for coins or looking for food was watching over the children as they played, it was something that was expected by the teens and adults to look after the children, even those that lived in the factory who had been abandoned by their parents were looked out for by the people who lived there.
As the children played, something odd could be smelled in the air. Suddenly sparks of electricity were sent flying everywhere, bouncing off the metalwork and frightening the children. Sensing the danger, the teen who had been looking after the children order them out of what they called the play area. More and more sparks of electricity were sent flying and parts of the refinery machines started to heat up and melt, runic symbols started to appear on the concert ground and parts of the machinery that had not melted, this went unnoticed as both the children and their watcher had long fled looking for help.
If the children and teens stayed a little longer, they would have seen a bright blue sphere appear in the air with the runic symbols carved into it floating downwards resting on the floor. Slowly the sphere vanished with revealing Alex Greyhorn still in his meditative position floating off the ground.
Opening his eyes, Alex looked around at his surroundings and frowned at the mess he had invertedly made. He knew there would be damage around the area he would be reinterring reality and dimension. But he didn't expect the area would be affected so badly.
"God… I hope I didn't hurt anyone"
Throwing over an invisibility cloak he made his way from the crime scene and out into the open city.
"This better not be still earth" Alex muttered under his breath "The ICW will be pissed at me if they find out I breached the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy"
It wasn't until a few hours later the Hound of the Undercity was made aware of the homeless shelter anomaly and came to investigate himself. Word quickly spread amongst those in the Undercity of the strange occurrence which later reached the Enforcers, it didn't any further than that as the Enforcers never bothered to write it down or inform their superiors. Mainly due to the fact they would be forced to investigate and spend more time in the Undercity than they would like.
During the hour after Alex arrived, he discovered he was in fact in another world. With some quick questioning with one of the locals, he found he was in a world called Runeterra and thanked the Gods, Goddess and even ROB that he was in a world he was familiar with and not one like the Warhammer 40K. Alex sometimes shivered at the thought of being sent to that reality, could imagine the massive witch hunt the Inquisition would send out due to the fact he ended up on Holy Terra itself.
But rather than the bleak and bloody reality of the Warhammer 40K, Alex had found himself in Runeterra, a world that had been based around a massively popular online game. While he had played the game a few times, he found himself more invested in the lore of the game rather than the online matches. This was good as he had an understanding of the world, but at the same time, he had little to no understanding of the political standing within each nation. And from the way he had seen Piltover Enforcer's patrolling the streets of Zaun, in his mind, Zaun was meant to be a separate nation from Piltover, but from the looks of it and the way the residents of the city gave less than pleased looks at the Piltover Enforcers said otherwise.
"Were they always one city?" Alex questioned out loud to himself.
Exploring the city, he placed a bubble charm over his head. The number of toxins and horrid smells that were in the air made it hard for him to breathe, looking around he noticed it was only the Enforcers with air-filter masks on while the rest of the people moved about as if the smell and toxin in the air didn't bother them.
"Then again" Alex said comparing the Enforcers uniforms to the clothing the people in the city were wearing "I'm sure they must have gotten used to it"
The city streets were pressed together with pipes sticking out most of the buildings. Neon lights illuminated the night sky much of the city while also illuminating the green glow the city produced. Alex guessed the green glow was pollution in the air from the many factories and chemical plants in the city. There were also a few vehicles moving by and he could hear the sound of steam engines and locomotives chugging along the rails
Zaun was obviously in the industrial age right now. Something every first-world nation on earth had gone through. While he had only ever watched a few documentaries of the work the laborers went through and could only imagine the type of grinding work these people went through. From the tired looks some had and their attire, Alex doubted these people were being paid fairly or at all. He passed more than a few homeless people on the streets and in alleyways begging for scrapes, he even came across a group of Enforcers who were beating down on one of the beggars.
Deciding to step in, Alex everyone in place and started to… make an example of the Enforcers. Before any of the None-Magi knew it, the Enforcers were stripped naked and were dangling upside down by their ankles with brands on their chests and backs with the words "I like beating homeless people".
He kept the Enforcer's firearms including their clothing and air-filter masks for his own use. Weapons were always something that needed to be studied, and while these firearms the Enforcers might look old fashion compared to the None-Magi back on earth. The material the armor was made out of a need to be studied as well, while there was no doubt still some in the Magical world that would simply rip the information out of the None-Magi heads, Alex was more than happy to simply use deductive reasoning above legilimency, that spell, and type of magic was something Alex considered a last resort.
Leaving the Enforcers hanging and the residents and homeless laughing at them, Alex went on to explore more of the city while continuously using a Notice-Me-Not charm throughout his exploration. The more he saw Zaun the more he felt sorry for the people that lived in the city. The streets were filthy with piles of trash lying about, and he took notice of the sewer system that was overflowing with god knows what.
The infrastructure of the city was falling apart in Alex's eyes. Unless something was done soon, he doubted the living conditions in the city to rise, in fact, Alex could see it plummeting even further. Alex understood capitalism, he understood the need for industry, but there was a level of living the workers and their families needed to keep them happy to work in the factories that were required for any prosperous nation. Alex knew the people that were in charge of Zaun were the Chem Barons who ran the biggest industries in Zaun, yet it looked like those men and women had no intention in raising the living conditions for the people of the city, or were unable to, and the Enforcers were roaming around as if they owned the place.
Something that fascinated Alex was the number of different species that lived in the city. He knew there was a large amount that lived in Runeterra as a whole, much like the Magical world, but unlike the Magical world, the species that lived here moved freely and weren't openly looked down upon or called out by the human race. It took a lot of self-control to keep himself from asking too many questions or staring at them, the last thing Alex wanted was to look like a nut job.
It wasn't until Alex decided to get to the rooftop that he notices the difference between Piltover and what many from Zaun called the Undercity. Unlike the Undercity which had road or mud cobblestone and rotten planks of wood with buildings that looked like the Weasley household that could fall apart at any minute. Piltover on the other hand looked like one of those shining cities from a fantasy storybook, building that looked to be made out of marble with beautiful bronze and ironwork showed off the wealth the people in that city relaxed in.
"Topside" Alex said.
That was what the people of the Undercity called it. Topside was where all the wealth and food were being kept and where the heads of the government lived, while Topside was considered the "City of Progress", just spending a day within the Undercity told Alex that the Piltover government, otherwise known as the Council was only interested in making money for themselves. It shouldn't bother Alex as much since it had only been a day since he had arrived to Runeterra, but walking past all those beggars and children looking in bins for scraps of food, it was hard for Alex o look the other way, his mother would smack him from behind the head if he tried.
'An Ancient and Noble House is meant to lead the people, not leave them behind!'
While his mother might have been married into the Greyhorn family. The woman had taken the Greyhorn tenants and followed them like someone who had been born into the family. It was something the Dark Faction families hated about his mother considering the woman was a New Generation witch and knew her way around the political parties. It was later discovered her bloodline reached back to the Peverell brothers through a blood test Gringotts was happy to provide which allowed her to claim the Peverell Vault that had been located away for generations.
The Greyhorn family and the Alliance had done more for the Magical World and the New Generations than anyone else had for generations. Alex never had much of a hand in it besides giving his father hints towards things that people like Albus Dumbledore and Tom Riddle wanted hidden, he was never the decision-maker and kept his head in the books studying magic and science, right now however he had brought himself into another world where he was cut off from home for now and in a city that was practically begging for help.
"Salvation comes, in a blink of an eye" Alex murmured to himself.
"Come Powder. Come and have a look" called out a voice from another rooftop.
Still, under the Notice-Me-Not charm with his inviability cloak packed away, Alex watched a group of teens climb a wall to the rooftop of a building in front of him. There were two boys and two girls. One of the boys was skinny while the other was larger but looked to be growing muscles underneath. The girls were both thin but looked to have been fed properly and not starving like the people in the streets. Alex wondered if the blue and dark pink hair were natural or not, while he had seen people with different color hair in the Undercity, Alex doubted they would spend money that could be used for food to simply change their hair color. If they were natural, Alex guessed it would be due to a mutation.
"With all the toxins and chemicals in the air in the Undercity… I wouldn't be surprised"
"Good to be above it all" the pink-haired and perhaps the leader said.
Both Alex and the blue hair girl were in awe at the blimp that flew above them. Alex never thought he would ever see one, but looking at the sky above Piltover's Topside city, he saw a large number of blimps floating above.
"Helium?" Alex questioned out loud "Or something else"
"One day, I'm going to ride one of those" said the younger girl who Alex assumed was Powder.
"One day, I'm going to shoot it down" said the skinny boy.
From the look Powder was giving the skinny boy, he doubted those two got along.
"Are you sure we should be out here Vi?" the larger boy asked "If Vander finds out, he's going to be pissed"
"That's if he finds out" said the pink-haired one, whose name was Vi "Which he's not going to. Besides, it not like anyone in topside is going to hungry anytime soon"
Alex froze upon hearing Vi's name called out. While he knew there was a chance that he might come across the characters of the game, he would never have guessed he would come across one of the most iconic, and to him personally, one of his favorite characters. And by the look of her age, it was just a few years off from becoming the Gauntlet Hex-Tech wearing juggernaut Deputy Sheriff of Piltover.
Looking closer at the blue hair girl made Alex believe she was Jinx. Mainly due to the hair color she had, which was a one of a kind so far as he had yet to see anyone else with blue hair, it was grimmer than the bright blue twin pigtails Jinx had, but with a shower with shampoo and conditioner Powders hair would light up.
"Vi and Jinx" Alex said shaking his head.
And by the looks of it, the two girls and two boys were attempting to rob someone.
Following the group while still under the Notice-Me-Not charm, Alex watched as the four climbed, jumped across, and run across with ease. Out of the four, it was Powder, or Jinx in Alex's mind, who was having the most trouble. Considering she was the youngest, and sadly the weakest, she had the hardest time moving about above the streets and roads. But he had to give complements to all of them as they were three or five stories high at a time and could easily die if they weren't watching where they stepped.
"Young and free-running across buildings to rob a place"
Alex stopped when he noticed something. Powder, who had also stopped, was looking right at him while grabbing Vi's attention and pointing right at him.
"What is it" Vi asked.
"That guy's follow us" Powder said pointing to Alex.
While the two boys froze and turned around. Alex made sure that the Notice-Me-Note charm was still working, which in fact it was, but for some reason, Powder was clearly able to see him even though she was a None-Magi.
"Or is she?" Alex wondered.
He knew there were wizards and witches that could get past the Notice-Me-Not charm, but they needed incredible skills in occlumency just to see shimmers of the person under the Notice-Me-Not charm. Turning around, Alex spotted no one behind him and paled as Vi and the two boys looked towards him.
"I don't see anything" said the skinny boy.
"Neither do I" said the larger one.
"Are you sure you're not just seeing things Powder?" Vi asked.
"But he's right there!" Powder said waving her arms in Alex's direction.
When Powder turned her attention to Alex from Vi, her face went from panic to… ridged. Alex was looking at her as if he had seen a ghost. Sending out a wave of energy towards Powder, he watched as she reacted to it while it flew over the boys. Vi also visibly reacted to it, but in a small twitching way, like it was an irritation if anything to her. But to Powder, she could feel something inside her that had been begging to be acknowledged.
"Can we go now?" said the skinny one who was getting irritated "Before she Jinx's us again?"
Alex just stood there looking at Powder. He couldn't take his eyes off the girl as the Vi pulled her away and they headed on with their… less than legal job. For both his own and Powder's sake, Alex threw over his inviability cloak. His mind was racing a mile a minute after this new discovery. He knew there was magic in Runeterra, if the lore from the game was something that could be relied upon. But he would have never guessed two of the popular characters of the game that never showed an ounce of magic before, had the potential of using the stuff, more and importantly, they might have the same type of magic Alex himself had.
"Dad's going to have a fucken field day about this"
Earth…
Greyhorn Manor…
David Greyhorn was staring at the mirror his son had left him. It was a portrait-sized one that had a simple wooden frame around it with some metal runes metaled into it. He had always known his son would do great things along with his younger siblings, but when he heard that his son wanted to jump to another world just to prove they existed he wanted to stop Alex before he went ahead and create the machine that would help him to do so. It was one thing to bring about a new age of magic and technology working as one, but to go so far and prove not only other worlds existed and could be traveled to was just far too soon for his liking. But it was something they needed.
And with everything that was happening after the trials of Albus Dumbledor, the discovery and means to travel to another world would help lighten the mood across the continents.
Right now, the Magical world on the British Isles and Europe was going under a massive restructuring. With the confessions that had been brought out of Albus Dumbledore, the Ministry's and ICW had to deal with a lot of the mess the old man had left behind, people who should have been jailed or executed were out any about because Dumbledore wanted to use them for his own benefit, the man had more connections within other Ministry's than people had originally believed and it was taking a lot of time and effort in rounding up his supporters and people he had kept out of jail. The more they dug, the more the ICW and officials discovered atrocities that had been covered up by the man, and it was becoming quite clear to everyone what the old man's endgame was.
Control. Something that Dumbledore's former lover had plunged the world into war to achieve. While Grindelwald had used force, Dumbledore had used so manipulations into creating the Merlin and grandfatherly figure many had fallen for while expanding his influence across the continents. Assassinations, blackmail, bribery, and so on…. They were some of the few methods Dumbledore used to grow his ever-expanding Empire, right under the noses of everyone.
The Alliance was being thanked left right and center by many, but there were still those diehard supporters Dumbledore had created, some the man had personally created through less than moral means. There were men and women that had been locked away for decades in their own minds were finally released and wanted nothing more than to burn the man alive, David could not help but feel sympathetic towards them as they had been forced into relationships with people they didn't love and either cut ties or were forced to watched as they murdered their loved ones without any control to stop it.
When ICW agents and Aurors came to collect those who had been listed as "Dolls" it became apparent that the spouses were fully aware of what had been done to their "Loved Ones" and more than willing to use lethal means to cover up their acts or make a quick escape. There were arrests being made left and right with even more horror stories about those trapped in their own minds with a constructed personality made many throw up and want nothing other than to beat and break the "Owners".
The public was being informed of what was happening, and support for the arrests and clean-up was high. But there were groups out there that refused to believe the facts and were outright pushing back against the authorities. A group called the "Sons and Daughters of Dumbledore" or "The Followers of Light" had tried organizing attacks and breaking Dumbledore out of prison when he was being held.
David just shook his head at the thought of those people. Half of them already had arrest warrants against themselves and were just dragging others down in a last-ditch effort to save themselves. One was an "Owner" who had a number of "Dolls" who would do anything he ordered them to. The sick and depraved stories that came from the victims made even the most hardened people sick. The man had earned himself the death penalty since many of his offspring's were used for horrific experiments and… organ harvesting.
That group had been quickly discovered and arrested before they could do any real harm. David and many others cursed Albus Dumbledore for everything he had caused. The man was already branded a Dark Lord, but there were those out there that thought it wasn't enough. The list of taboos and crimes the man had committed to his "Greater Good" was far too numerous to the point a new level of criminal had to be invented.
David wondered how a man could fall so far until his son said something the frightened him.
"He thinks he's the Leader of Light and messiah of the Magical world. Anything criminal or taboo in his eyes can be acceptable as it helps him with his goals. It's the same with everyone who thinks of themselves as Heroes. As long as they can reach their goals and endgame, anything is acceptable, they'll just claim it's for the Greater Good"
It made sense, and it frightened David.
Alex was insightful and intelligent. He brought honor to House Greyhorn through his achievements and was never one to boast about them. There were many families that were willing to have their daughter betrothed to Alex and were more than willing to pay extreme amounts of money to make it happen.
David had gone to Gringotts to make sure there weren't any uncompleted marriage contracts between House Greyhorn and another House, he was glad there wasn't as David didn't want his son to be forced into a loveless marriage like so many others were, his son would do his duty but David did not force something on his son that not even himself would agree to. David had married out of love and respect for his wife, while the Dark families hated the fact, he married someone from the New Generation while the Light families and the Grey Families were happy about it. But David knew there were a few amongst the Light families that were against his marriage, some wanted Alice for themselves while others wanted to be the next Lady Greyhorn.
Right now, he was wondering what he was going to tell Alice if Alex didn't make contact soon. Alice Greyhorn was not a woman anyone wanted to mess with and was protective of her children. They had three children altogether, Melisa and Jessica were twins and Alex's younger siblings. Both were bright children and looked up to their big brother who also adored them. David didn't want to imagine how he would have to break the news to the twins about his brother's death.
Just as David was about to get up and call it a night the runes on the mirror frame lit up with a blue glow. The reflection in the mirror vanished and was replaced with his son's face with a city in the background.
"You there dad?" Alex called out.
David let out a tear from his eye seeing his son was still alive.
"I'm here son… how are you?"
"Alive and well" said Alex who smiled at his father "The transit left a mark at the landing zone, had to get out of there before some spotted me"
David let out a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding "That's good son, very good. Are you in another world or just…"
David didn't get to finish his question as his son turned the mirror around and showed him a city he had never seen before. It looked like something from a fantasy book with blimps flying around.
"Yeah… turns out my machine and spell worked. I'm in a city called Piltover and just currently exploring the place. I landed in a place called the Undercity, a second city to what is called Piltover, not a nice place and is heavily covered in industrial factories that create toxins in the air. Right now, I'm just outside from that city going into Topside, Piltover's more… clean and tidy city"
David didn't say anything and just listened. His mind was working a mile a minute as the fact alone his son not only discovered another world with humans in it but managed to travel there as well. The None-Magi managed to make it to the moon, his son managed to make it to another world.
"You just had to go and flip the table again, didn't you?" David said with a smile.
"Can't help it father" Alex said with a smile "Everyone else is too slow, I want to get things done!"
David could only sigh at that. While his son might be energetic about his discoveries in both magic and technology, he acted as if it wouldn't affect the world as a whole.
"There something else father" Alex said, his voice had gone from happy and excited to more forced "I've found untrained New Generation witches"
Explaining while on the move David listened intently to what his son was saying. While the idea there could Old or New Generations of Magical blessed people in other worlds fascinated both David and his son, the idea that there could be unknown magic out there in the cosmos waiting to be discovered would make anyone who sought to learn and cultivate their skills. But from what he had been told about this "Powder" girl who seemed to have the ability to see through the Notice-Me-Note charm showed ether how powerful she was or had an ability that allowed her to see through perception spells.
"Are you sure they are untrained?" David asked.
"The older sibling Vi seemed irritated with my magic-burst. Powder on the showed the most reaction to it, but neither seemed to have any idea what it was"
"What do you intend to do?"
"They're off to rob someplace, I'm just shadowing them right now and by the looks of it they have just reached their target"
"Please keep me informed" David said "We need to know as much about this world as we can, we need to know what these people think of magic and if they can be negotiated with"
"No problem, I'll report back to you tonight, keep one of the House Elf's by the Dimensional Mirror and go get some sleep dad. You get to be the one who explains to mom that I'm in another world"
David paled at that.
How he let his son go off into another was beyond him.
Piltover Topside Rooftops…
Alex shrank his Dimensional Mirror and placed it in his pocket. The two untrained New Generation witches and the two boys entered the apartment from a balcony. While still under his inviability cloak and Notice-Me-Not charm, Alex was able to sneak into the apartment and see the four pilfering whatever looked valuable.
So far Powder had not noticed Alex, but he made sure to stay out of their way and look around the place himself. Upon doing so he felt his right eye twitch as he looked at some of the diagrams and blueprints that he recognized from his own Magi-Tech. If Alex was right, he knew whose apartment he was in and who Vi, Powder, and the two boys were robbing. It was one thing to come find Vi and Jinx/Powder, it was another thing to find the apartment they were robbing belong to the person who was currently developing Hex-Tech.
'This is fucken mental'
Looking back at the information Alex remembered about Jayce Tails he remembered the bio and lore called the man a flamboyant person who didn't think about the consequences of his own actions. And from the looks of it, the man had yet to fully create a working model of his Hex-Tech. Looking at some of the man's notes, Alex could firmly stay that Jayce was on the right path, but was lacking the method to turn a Hex-Crystal into the refined orb that was more sustainable rather than the little blue balls that could crack at any moment.
Alex realized how dangerous the place was and started looking around for the Hex-Crystal. While his information was nothing but lore from a video game, he wasn't about to throw it to the side as if it was nothing. Moving swiftly and not making a sound Alex found the small room Powder was in who had found herself sandwiches and was stuffing her mouth with them. Powder then proceeded to open the reinforced chest revealing eight Hex-Crystals inside of them. Alex could feel the power radiating from the Hex-Crystals and noticed the glint in Powder's eyes, she could feel the power with her own just awakening.
Tossing a few Gallen coins from Gringotts to the floor behind Powder allowed Alex to swipe the Hex-Crystals before Powder noticed they were gone. The gold coins were no doubt the most expensive things she had ever seen and could be melted down for the pure weight and value of the gold.
Upon picking up the eighth Hex-Crystal felt something off about it and saw the number of cracks increasing. The power within the Hex-Crystal violently swirled around without restraint and cursed Jayce Tails for not bothering to make sure the Crystal itself was even stable on its own. The amount of energy inside of it was screaming to be let out, and with something that powerful contained in something so small and fragile…
"I'm going to kill Jayce Tails"
Hearing Alex's voice, Powder turned around and reached out pulling the inviability cloak off of him. With wide eyes, she was about to scream out until both she and Alex heard footsteps coming from the front door and someone knocking.
"We need to leave now" Alex said without leaving any room to argue.
Hoisting Powder over his shoulders, Alex walked into the main room where the two boys were panicking and Vi was looking for her sister. Upon seeing Powder over Alex's shoulders, she charged at him with full force.
Raising a hand, he mentally sent out a spell.
'Petrificus Totalus'
Vi went ridged and fell to the floor with the bag of stolen goods.
Alex sent the same spell out to the two boys who also fell down.
Turing to the door He shoved a number of shelves and cabinets in its way before Jayce Tails could open it.
"What did you do to my sister!" Powder demanded as she struggled to get of Alex's shoulders.
"Just knocked her out for half an hour" Alex said as he started shrinking everything in the main room and placed it all in his expansive pockets "She'll be fine when the spell wears off"
Finally getting out of Alex's grip, Powder went to check on her sister and turned to Alex. Only for her jaw to look like it had dropped open when she saw everything flying about around them and into Alex's pockets.
"You're the guy on the rooftop!" Powder pointed at Alex.
"No…. I'm the guy from the rooftop. I'm clearly standing in a room right next to you" Alex said cheekily
Powder continued to watch as every document, book, and anything of value was transported into Alex's pockets.
"How are you doing that?"
"Magic" Alex said with a light smile.
With everything collected he grabbed Vi and the two boys and laid them on each other.
"What are you doing?" Powder asked.
"We need to get out of here and there is only one way that we can do that and get that Hex-Crystal to a safe location before it blows up everywhere is by using one of the nauseatingly means of transportation" Taking a seat on top of the pile, he grabbed Powder and wrapped an arm around her "Try to not throw up"
CRACK!
Piltover Undercity Ports…
It had been calm by the docks of the Undercity. For most who lived in the area, ether listened to the sound of the factories or tried their luck at fishing in the murky and contaminated water. On occasions, someone lucky would actually catch a fish that could either be sold to some who would use it as ingredients for their personal concoctions, or eat it as it had not mutated to the point it was poisonous for consumption.
But whatever calmness there had been was ruined with Powder bending over the walkway and throwing up in the water. The moment she and the rest went through the apparition spell, she felt like everything she had eaten for breakfast and the sandwich she found in the apartment wanted out.
Following Powder throwing up was an explosion in the water. Alex had thrown the unstable Hex-Crystal in the water, there was no other way of containing the unstable power, and the only answer Alex had been throwing it as far away from the proximities of civilian life. Powder was thrown back from the shockwave while Alex was able to stand his ground.
"You lot are extremely lucky I followed you lot"
Powder turned to look at Alex who was kneeling over Vi, Mylo and Claggor. She paled when she didn't see any of them breathing.
"They're still alive" Alex said.
Snapping his fingers, the three woke up.
Vi looked around her until she locked her eyes on Powder who in turn jumped into her sisters' arms. Mylo and Claggor were looking left and right wondering where they were and how they got there. With Vi eyes locking onto Alex, Vi immediately tried attacking Alex who easily dodge each attack and even tripped Vi to the ground.
"Perhaps we can talk rather than…" before he could finish, Vi charged at him again with both Mylo and Claggor following behind "You know what… fuck this. I'm too tired!"
'Petrificus Totalus'
Once more all three froze and fell to the ground.
With a sigh, he turned to Powder.
"Are they always like this?"
"Magicam veterem et novam invoco ut ianuam aperiat et ostende mihi mundum novum"
"I call upon the old magic and the new to open the gateway and show me the new world"
