Hey. New chapter. What's up?
Word count: 2556
At Hogwarts:
In the Student Register, a name began to change..
Astra Lily Malfoy: Pure-blooded, age, six years old...
"Come with me." Gornuk had said. Astra had exchanged a confused glance with her friend - no, her brother. Why would they need to go anywhere? The adoption had gone fine, hadn't it?
But Lucius and Narcissa had followed the goblin without question, so the two children had no choice but to do the same.
Now they were at a desk, facing another goblin with a hooked nose staring down at them. "Ragnuk. Pull up the credentials for Astra Lily Malfoy." Gornuk instructed.
Ragnuk nodded and pulled a file. Gornuk turned to them. "As this," he held out the file to Lucius, "says, Miss Malfoy's illegal magical guardian is Albus Dumbledore.."
He didn't finish the sentence; Lucius and Narcissa were beside themselves in rage.
"How?"
"He simply came here and claimed custody, by the looks of it," Gornuk said. "Miss Malfoy was not at the liberty to simply strip him of this position, but now that she is blood adopted, you two are her legal magical guardians, and the both of you are at the liberty to strip him of any entitlement he has to her."
"Let's do it, then.." Lucius was growling.
"It shall be done," the goblin said.
He took a deep breath. "My apologies, Master Goblin. What other damages to Astra's life has that foolish old goat orchestrated?"
"He withheld much money from her." Gornuk said.
Astra could feel her breath getting faster. Next to her, Draco's fists were clenched. "How dare he!" Narcissa nearly shrieked.
"Cissa." Lucius placed a hand on her arm now.
"Fine." She sighed.
"Heiress Potter," Gornuk said.
Astra was shocked to be addressed personally. "Y-yes?"
"The wills of your respective families." He handed her three papers.
Last will of:
The Potter Family:
Iris, if you're reading this, this means I'm dead, or we've kicked it from old age, uh I'll cross that later so Lils doesn't see it..anyways, I love you, I love you so much, so much. You're Heiress to House Potter, and I'm sure someone will teach you...I can't.
You are my baby girl, my sweet baby girl, and I'm so sorry we had to leave this world. I want you to know this: no matter what House you end up in(though I'd prefer Gryffindor), you are my daughter. Never let anyone tell you what they think I'd want - I'd love you no matter where you were - okay?
Love, Dad
Dear Iris, I'm sure James already told you what you need to know - and don't worry, his comment about us "kicking it" did not go unpunished - so I just want you to know that I have no preference on your House - my childhood best friend, Severus Snape, was a Slytherin, and a damn good one. If you meet him, tell him I forgive him, and that I'm sorry.
Never follow anyone blindly. Don't make enemies stupidly. And above all, forgive. I lost my best friend because I didn't.
I love you, so much, my mini-me.
Mum
Astra let a tear roll down her pointed nose. Draco squeezed her hand encouragingly and she read on.
To whoever is reading:
In the unlikely event that we die, our daughter, Iris Lily, should go to these people, in that order should anyone be incapacitated.
Sirius Black
Alice and Frank Longbottom
Severus Snape
Amelia Bones
Minerva McGonagall
If none are available, send her to a Wizarding family, any Wizarding family.
ABOVE ALL: DO NOT SEND IRIS LILY POTTER TO PETUNIA OR VERNON DURSLEY!
James and Lily Potter
Lord and Lady of House Potter
Transfer Money:
Alice and Frank Longbottom: 200 Galleons per month, you can't say no, Alli
Remus Lupin: 500 Galleons per month - you earned it, Moony
(Don't remember any more..)
Contract Terminated By:
Albus Dumbledore
Here the entire family glared at the parchment as they seethed.
There was silence.
Lucius heaved a heavy sigh as he broke it. "I don't understand.."
"I do," Astra seethed. "DUMBLEDORE-"
"Canceled-" Draco continued.
"My-"
"Contracts!" Draco finished.
The children had no idea they'd been talking in twin-speak.
Narcissa and Lucius looked at them in slight awe. Lucius cast a birthday spell.
Both of their birthdays were the same: July 3rd.
"Mother, what are you doing?" Draco noticed first.
"It appears you two have acquired the Twin Bond." Lucius told them.
"What's the..."
"Twin Bond?" Finished Astra.
"You two are twins, by law and blood now. This means..Let me try something." Narcissa was excited.
"Astra, start saying something completely random. Draco, attempt to finish the sentence."
"Okay? I really hate the.." Astra had a word in her mind: Dursleys.
"Dursleys!" Draco finished. "How did I.."
"Do that? AH, stop!" Astra was rather annoyed by this strange new thing.
"You can read the minds of each other, it appears.." Narcissa said. "This will prove useful"
"Okay, Mum." Astra said it before she could stop herself.
Narcissa appeared not to notice. But Astra supposed that she was her mum now, so it would be..interesting..fun to call her that.
She'd never had a mum before...
"Let us figure what else he has done to you." said Lucius.
The goblins were more than happy to check Astra..for the sum of fifty galleons. Astra had readily agreed.
"Alright, Heiress Potter, a magical block, placed by James Potter when you were one, but burnt out in a year, perhaps you had frequent accidental magic? You have quite the strong core, you see. That's all." The Healer inclined his head. "And then.." Hogrod checked his results, and he frowned. "Odd curse scar," he said.
"What is it?" Lucius asked urgently.
"Quite a bit of magical residue. I suggest you glamor it." Said Hogrod.
"Understood," said Lucius.
Hogrod waved his hand over Astra's head.
Ten minutes later
Astra's scar was gone. Gone. Gone! She had been teased and bullied and made fun of for that scar since she was two. And it was gone. The contacts had been renewed, and Dumbledore's damage was undone. A big smile split her face.
"Gone."
When they reached home, Astra expected to play with Draco or something. Instead, Lucius told her, "you are part of the family now, and you will learn etiquette, History, and Magic with us before school, because Hogwarts is getting stale and I doubt they have all the teachings we can give you."
"Okay..Father." Astra tried the new word. It felt good on her tongue.
Lucius gave her a smile as they headed into the house.
The next day..
"Let's get wands from Ollivander's, shall we?" Lucius asked them.
"Yes!" Draco and Astra said in unison.
When they reached the shop, Ollivander looked more than shocked. "Draco Malfoy..Astra Malfoy..my my.."
Lucius looked like he was about to say something, but Ollivander cut him off. "Don't worry, Lucius. I'll be silent.." A little smile appeared on old Garrick Ollivander's face. "Come forth, Mr Malfoy.."
Draco uncertainly came towards him. "Ten inches long, made of hazel wood..dragon heartstring core.." Draco waved the wand. Three shelves exploded.
"No.." Ollivander murmured.
"Ten inches, acacia tree wood, phoenix feather core."
Draco tried.
It didn't work.
He tried fourteen more wands, and no avail.
Finally.."Ten inches, made of hawthorn wood, unicorn hair core."
Sparks flew.
"Congratulations, Mr Malfoy, you have a wand." Ollivander smiled.
Draco took the wand in awe, holding it as if it was an artifact.
"Miss Potter-Malfoy." Ollivander said.
Astra came forward.
"Now," he said quietly, "Albus Dumbledore told me to give you a wand - this wand, with a phoenix feather and holly core which has multiple compulsions and spells on it, and I don't agree. Miss Malfoy, I have a wand I custom-made for you - which incidentally doesn't have the Trace. Fir tree wood, nine inches..I have a feeling you are more strong-minded than Bellatrix Lestrange herself..
"And then phoenix feather...Dumbledore wanted me to use the feather from his phoenix..but no. This feather is from a Dark Phoenix, a phoenix that belonged to no one." Ollivander looked Astra right in the eye. "Legend has it that when an unbonded phoenix gives a feather, it will return to bond with the one worthy of wielding the wand made from the feather it gave."
Astra waved the wand and sparks shot from it, even more brilliant than Draco's. "Miss Malfoy, a Dark Phoenix is not purely light..there are specs of darkness inside it too." And with those parting words, Mr Ollivander shooed them out of the shop.
Astra mulled over Ollivander's words on the way home. She wondered what he meant. A Dark Phoenix..she'd research it if she could.
When they got home, Lucius started their training immediately. "Charms first! Swish and flick your wand and say, Wingardium Leviosa!"
Draco and Astra flicked and swished.
It worked.
Later they had etiquette with Narcissa. She said that they'd present themselves to the world at Yule. Astra paid attention.
By the end of the week, she was a proper pureblood princess, ready to meet the rest. Too bad she'd have to wait three months for it..
With Albus Dumbledore..
Albus was smiling as he heard from his spy.
"A girl with blonde hair and green eyes was seen with the Malfoys.."
He wasn't smiling anymore. Blonde hair? Green eyes? What if..Iris had been adopted by the Malfoys..maybe they dyed her hair?
Oh dammit.
If she had been taken by them..no, it'd be fine, he could just take her back..show her the truth..and come out as a savior!
Perfect..
"Thank you, Daedalus."
The Malfoys would have a very unexpected visitor tomorrow..
AN: Look I'm sorry about the phoenix thing, I know it's very Mary-Sue, but I swear, it will come in handy later.
Also, I'm seriously upset that I only have three reviews! I sound rude but honestly! If you like it enough to follow it, drop a review, won't you?
