"No, Longbottom, I'm actually stuck to the Giant Squid - obviously I'm stuck in the mistletoe, you tosspot!" Astra shouted angrily.
"Calm down," said Neville. "It's easy to get you out anyways. All you have to do is-"
"Just kiss someone," finished Hermione.
"Kiss? Sorry, you lot. I don't like any of you that way." Astra shrugged.
"Best get acquainted with the mistletoe, then." Theo said briskly. "You'll be here a while."
She rolled her eyes, leaned forward, grabbed Neville, and kissed his cheek quickly before letting go and stepping gracefully out of the mistletoe bubble.
Neville just stood there, frozen, with his mouth half open. He lifted a hand to his cheek, stained red from his blush.
"Did you just kiss him?" Hermione asked incredulously.
"Uh-huh," Astra confirmed.
"I thought you said you didn't like him!" She protested.
"I don't." Astra said with a roll of her eyes. "I kiss my brother on the cheek. I kiss my mother on the cheek. I don't like-like either of them."
"Fair enough," Hermione shrugged.
"Shall we?" Astra linked arms with Hermione and Luna.
"We shall," said Luna.
"Why do I get the feeling we just missed something big?" Neville asked to empty air, for Theo had followed the three girls away from the broom closet. "Wait for me!"
"Hurry up, Neville," called Luna. "The Blibbering Humdingers tell me that you will soon be attacked by Nargles if you don't."
Neville glanced behind him, and saw a vine of mistletoe set to fall upon his head. It swayed, and began to fall off the broom closet. Neville darted forward just in time as the mistletoe fell just behind him.
"Whoa," he said shakily. "Thanks for the heads-up, Luna!"
"You're welcome," Luna smiled. He followed behind her, Theo, Hermione, and Astra.
"Where to, next?" Astra asked her.
"The Ancient Texts section seems very Nargle-infected to me." Luna said mistily.
"Then," Astra adopted a deep voice, "to the Ancient Texts section we shall go."
Luna giggled.
"Come on, then." Hermione took the lead and the others followed her as they trotted towards the Ancient Texts section.
"Alright, Luna, which book seems to be stuffed with Nargles?" Neville asked, slightly jokingly.
"That one," said Luna seriously as she pointed to a yellowing book titled Discoveries of the 1400s.
"You sure? That looks to be the most boring book I've ever seen since The Pureblood Directory." Astra said with a shudder that only one who had experienced The Pureblood Directory could pull off.
"What's The Pureblood Directory?" Hermione asked, narrowing her eyes sharply.
"Exactly what it sounds like." Theo said, his voice light and amused as he repeated Astra's words. "The most boring book ever, and that's a lot coming from me."
Hermione muttered something quietly that unsurprisingly sounded a lot like bigoted.
'It's the one," Luna dreamily placed a hand on it, attracting the others' attention. "But somehow, the Nargles aren't in this Time. The Nargles don't belong here now. We should leave, but remember." She tilted her head slightly.
"Why'd you bring us here, then?" asked a skeptical Hermione.
"So you could remember," she said simply.
"I'll keep that in mind," said Astra bracingly. "Note to self: remember Discoveries of the 1400s. That good?"
"Yes." Luna said satisfiedly. Astra wondered mildly whether she was a Seer of some sort or if she was just oddly clairvoyant, but dismissed the thought as she continued to muse on the odd thing that was Discoveries of the 1400s.
She glanced down at her watch. "Oh - it's six already," Astra said, surprised as she met Hermione's eyes.
"Dinner ends in an hour!" She whisper-shouted worriedly.
"Two hours." corrected Hermione.
"Have we found all the..the Nargles yet?" Neville asked the resident Nargle expert, Luna.
"Absolutely," Luna assured him.
"Shall we leave, then?" Astra asked.
"Where, though?" Theo wondered.
"Let's surprise Draco," she grinned devilishly.
"Can't, sorry," Hermione shook her head regretfully. "I've got to revise my essay."
"Come off it, Hermione," Neville said with a slight roll of his eyes. "We spent the whole afternoon yesterday revising together. You don't need to."
"But-"
"It's not bad to learn, Hermione," said Theo gently. "But it is bad to be a perfectionist."
"I'm not a-"
"You are." Astra said. "Don't deny it. Now come with us and have fun!" She said, grinning. It was rare that she allowed herself to let loose, but when with her friends, she felt free, relieved of the baggage that came with being a Pureblood heiress.
"The Slytherins don't like it when we go to their common room, though," Hermione bit her lip nervously.
"That's true," Astra admitted.
"So where do we go?" Neville asked.
"Nargles!" said Luna.
"What?" Four voices simultaneously asked.
"Nargles on the seventh floor," she said. "Follow me."
All of them, even Astra, exchanged glances that said a multitude of things…
Before they followed Luna as she scampered out of the library.
Somehow, Luna knew the way around the place, and before long they were on the left corridor of the seventh floor, and by then, the others were at the end of their proverbial rope. Astra was the first to snap. "Care to tell us what we're doing up here, Luna?" She asked, her voice cracking ever-so-slightly.
"Isn't it obvious? The Blibbering Humdingers have found us a place to relax!" She said cheerfully.
"Um, Luna," said Neville delicately, "there's nothing here.'
"Ah-ah-ah!" Luna put a finger to his lips and gestured for them to follow her. "This way!"
She lead them to a funny looking tapestry with a headline below that read, Barnabas the Smarmy attemptes to teachest Trolles to danceth.
"What an idiot," exclaimed Hermione. "Trolls can't dance."
Then, her sharpened eyes reread it, "is that Shakespearean?"
"No," Luna shook her head. "It's Olde Wizard English. Shakespeare got his language from us."
"How do you know about Shakespeare?" Hermione asked curiously. "Aren't you from a Wizarding family?"
"My mother and grandfather approved of his works, and I was told to learn it." She explained.
"Ah," Hermione nodded wisely.
"So," Theo broke in, "where's the fabled place, Luna?"
"Right here." Luna said dreamily.
"Are you sure it wasn't just your imagination, Luna? A hallucination? A phantom? A mirage?" Theo suggested uneasily as he rattled off various synonyms of the word "illusion".
Luna's eyes flared. "It is there. Perhaps you are too narrow-minded to see it, Theodore."
"Easy there," Neville held out a cautionary hand. "We all have our separate beliefs. It's Luna's choice to believe in those things and it's Theo's choice to not."
Luna gave Neville an appraising glance, but then arched her brows and stepped forward. "Thank you, Neville. But I am NOT Seeing things this time." She furrowed her brow and concentrated hard. Then, she did the oddest thing. She started pacing back and forth from the end of the corridor to the beginning of it.
"Um.." Hermione started.
"Stop," Luna said firmly, her eyes still closed. "Busy."
Around the third pace, a blue ornate door appeared right across from the Tapestry.
"What?!" Astra, Theo, Neville, and Hermione shrieked in unison.
"Calm down." Luna said serenely. "This is the Come-and-Go-Room."
"Sorry?" Astra asked, confused.
"My apologies." Luna waved her hand. "The Room of Requirement, said to be created by Lady Rowena herself." Her voice became reverent as she wove a tapestry threaded with precious words. "Ingeniously magical, and few truly know the secret. They come here in search of perhaps a place to conceal them from those who would cause them harm, a place to safeguard a precious treasure, a place to disappear…" She trailed off, her voice light and dreamy.
"No offense, Luna," Astra said cautiously, "but if it's such a secret, how do you know it?"
"You forget, Astra," Luna turned her assessing gaze upon Astra. "My mother was an Ollivander."
Astra, Theo, and Neville's eyes all widened. Suddenly, it all made sense. Luna's alarming way of knowing things she shouldn't, her dreamy tone, the way she always seemed far away, the way her eyes clouded when she was assessing someone's character...Ollivander. Luna Lovegood was an Ollivander.
The Ollivanders may have been commoners, but they were an Ancient family, dating back to the time of Merlin. They were always there somehow, popping up in history, whether in an elderly ancestor's tale of a brave woman with silver eyes, or a young child's journal telling tales of a man with the same eyes gifting them their wand, or even stories of an ancient Seer who guided Armand Malfoy the Great on his path, or Ignotus Peverell to go to his destiny.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Hermione's sharp voice broke them all out of their thoughts.
"Who wants to explain it?" Astra sighed.
"I'll do it," Neville volunteered.
"What's the big deal about Luna's mum's maiden name?" Hermione huffed.
"Be patient, Hermione," chastised Theo.
"Hermione, some families are old, like really old...and…" Neville bit his lip before continuing. "The Ollivanders are a very ancient family. They've been around so long that automatically they are an Ancient House. They are commoners, of course - they have no place in the Wizengamot - but they have influenced Fate herself for a long time. Always, they have made wands. Always, they have had members of their family have the Sight-"
"The what?" Hermione narrowed her eyes.
"The Sight, Granger," still a little wary of the bushy-haired muggleborn, Theo rolled his eyes in turn. "Do keep up."
"Like seeing the future?" she asked sceptically. "It all sounds a bit woolly to me."
"Not exactly," Luna said. "One can have the Sight without being a Seer, you know."
"Explain," Hermione commanded.
"Instead of seeing the future, they see magic." Astra explained.
Hermione's eyes widened. "Oh!"
"Now you get it," Astra grinned.
"No, not really," Hermione said hurriedly. "It's just that I - I read an old book a while back about Assessors-"
Astra, Theo, and Neville all shouted "STOP!" at the same time, raising their hands.
"Why?" Hermione furrowed her brow.
"Hermione, some things.." Theo glanced around a bit nervously, as if the walls could come alive and bite him.
"Let's talk in the Room." Luna interrupted. "The Humdingers tell me the walls have ears."
They exchanged uneasy glances, but followed Luna into the room.
It looked oddly like the Slytherin Common Room, but instead of the bustling sound of the other Slytherins, it was silent. There were nine chairs that were separated into five and four that faced each other symmetrically(other than the leftover one). A large table was sat between them. One side of the room was a deep emerald green crisscrossed with silver while the other side was blue crossed with bronze.
For every blue and bronze chair, there was a green and silver one. When Astra neared a blue-and-bronze one, she noticed it read Theodore, and the one across from it read Luna. They were separated by a long table that was the length of five chairs. The next set of chairs read Neville and Astoria. And so on.
"Whoa…" Hermione was the first to speak. "The Room generated all this?!" Her voice was disbelieving.
"Yes." Luna said. "Take a seat," she added, gesturing to the chair next to Neville's.
Once everyone had been seated(Luna had arranged it so they were all next to one another), Hermione took a deep breath and said, "Luna, can you explain now?"
"Hermione, some things aren't to be spoken of," Astra said, wincing slightly.
"Like Asses-"
"NO!" Again they shrieked in harmony.
"Stop, Hermione!" Theo shouted.
"Why? I don't understand." Hermione looked confused.
"It's a reflex, Hermione," Neville tried to explain. "We've been taught never to mention that word."
"Why?" Hermione asked.
"It's said that if you do...you'll bring down a demon...an incarnation of Death itself upon us." He shuddered.
"They...they aren't normal. They aren't like Seers. Seers are controlled by a force from above, and they never remember what they see. But A-A-" Neville was unable to say it.
"Shall we just call them A's, Neville?" Astra suggested gently.
"Yeah..that seems about right. A's...they see the magic through physical and mental blockings, through space, through distance...even through Time. They know things." Neville shivered. "They're highly coveted because of it."
"Like in the library!" Understanding dawned on Hermione. "If Luna is an Assess- I mean an A-" she corrected herself hastily, "then what she said...do you remember?"
'It's the one," Luna dreamily placed a hand on it. "But somehow, the Nargles aren't in this Time. The Nargles don't belong here now. We should leave, but remember."
"Why'd you bring us here, then?" asked a skeptical Hermione.
"So you could remember," she said simply.
"I'll keep that in mind," said Astra bracingly. "Note to self: remember Discoveries of the 1400s. That good?"
"Not this Time…" Luna echoed. "I remember."
"I wonder if we should remember now.." Theo mused.
"NO." Luna said firmly. "Not now."
"But-" He tried.
"Trust me," Luna insisted.
An uncomfortable silence fell over them.
Astra broke it. "Like Nev was saying, A's are highly coveted because they can literally see everything. If Luna really is one…" She glanced around nervously. "We all have to take a magical vow, pain of death, to never mention this to a soul."
"Pain of death!" Hermione cried. "Surely it can't be that serious?"
"Hermione, Ass- A's are very, very, very rare. We're lucky only we know...if an adult knew about this...no matter how kind or trusty they are, I can't say they wouldn't just grab Luna and make a run for it." Astra said.
"Really?" Hermione's eyes widened.
"Yes." Astra said firmly.
"Who would do that, though?" She asked.
"Dumbledore. The Dark Lord. Any Unspeakable. The entire Ministry." Theo listed.
"Surely Dumbledore wouldn't! He's the Leader of the Light, Defeater of Grindelwald!" Hermione was scandalized.
"That, Hermione…" Neville started.
"Is hero worship." Astra hissed. "Don't believe everything you hear."
"But-" She started.
"No." Astra's tone brokered no argument. "Everyone, wands out."
The others extended their wands and prepared to swear an oath.
"Okay, repeat after me," Astra instructed, "I, (and then your name), do-"
"Wait, wait, wait," Theo interrupted.
"Theo!" Astra glared at him. "This isn't a joke!"
"Think for a second!" He said exasperatedly.
"We are thinking!" Hermione insisted. "We're thinking this is Luna's life!"
"Hermione. Are you, the queen of thinking ahead, seriously agreeing to swear an oath that Miss On-The-Spot here-" Theo waved a hand at Astra, ignoring her cry of protest, "-is literally making up as we speak?"
Hermione had the grace to look slightly ashamed.
Theo took that as his cue to continue. "Let me tell you all a story." He said. "There was once a group of five friends who found a large treasure room."
"Where?" Astra asked eagerly.
"Forget that. Anyways, they found a treasure room. But they knew that they had to make sure it wasn't a trap. So, the most daring of the group entered the room. After all, he was brave enough for anything!" Theo said mysteriously, pausing for emphasis.
"What happened?" Neville leaned in slightly.
"What happened was...the daring one didn't come back. Day after day, they waited." Theo smirked. "After quite a while, they began to grow anxious. They sent the clever one of the group in. Surely, she would find out what was going on!"
"Ooo, suspense," Astra disrupted the atmosphere cheerfully, ignoring the elicited glare from Theo.
"Shhh!" Hermione scolded.
"Thank you, Granger," Theo said magnanimously. Then he continued to tell the story. "So the clever one entered the room. She didn't come back. So the group sent in the third member - the strongest. Surely he would be able to fight whatever mysterious creature lay in the depths."
"Let me guess," Hermione said with a roll of her eyes. "He didn't come back."
"Why, yes," Theo said. "Should I ask how you-"
"It's the typical thing," Hermione interrupted. "And then actually, it was riches galore inside the room and nothing bad happened. Am I right?"
"Nope!" Theo said cheerfully. "Anyways, the strong one didn't come back. So the remaining two had to get smart. They opened the door and instead of storming in, they tossed a pebble in. They heard chomping noises and the pebble was gone. So then, they started freaking out. So the remaining two decided to vow to never speak of this again..."
"Ah, here we are," Astra said knowingly.
"...SO, they did it right on the spot." Theo continued. "But, by accident, they messed up the wording. They said, 'I…' and then their names, 'do solemnly swear on my life and magic to never speak..' and then they coughed…'again.' Neither of them realized what they'd done. So they spoke. The first one said something. The second said something. And then they both dropped dead to the floor."
"Whoa!" Neville gulped. "Gotcha."
"What's your point?" Astra asked.
"We should write out the oath on a piece of parchment first." He rolled his eyes. "Duh."
"Yeah, that sounds right," - Neville said.
"Why didn't I think of that?" - Hermione groused.
"Finally, we're clearing the Wrackspurts." - Luna cheerily said.
"Where's the parchment?" - Astra wondered.
As everyone shared their opinions on Theo's idea, the Room generated a thin piece of parchment along with a feather-tipped quill.
"Awesome!" Neville breathed.
"So how should it go?" Astra asked.
"Well, obviously it will start with I solemnly swear." Hermione said bossily.
"Yeah, that's true, except with a I, insert your name in the middle." Astra agreed as she quickly scribbled it down.
I, {insert your name here}, do solemnly swear
"To never speak of Luna's...A...ability again." Neville finished.
"You know you'll have to say the word, yes?" Hermione raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, but...the less the better." He told her.
I, {insert your name here}, do solemnly swear to never speak of Luna Lovegood's Assessor(while writing that, Astra's hand shook a bit, and Theo sucked in a large breath, but she did it) abilities
"Wait, stop," Hermione interrupted.
"Why?" Astra asked.
"In case we have to tell someone, put without Luna's permission." She explained.
"Ohh," Astra said, understanding.
I, {insert your name here}, do solemnly swear to never speak of Luna Lovegood's Assessor abilities to anyone outside of myself, Luna Lovegood and the others that have sworn this oath without Luna Lovegood's express permission from herself and herself alone
"Without coercion." Luna said suddenly.
"Why-" Hermione started. Then, it dawned on her and her eyes widened to the size of Galleons. "You don't really think someone would force you!"
"Hermione, you don't understand how far someone would go to use the abilities of a bona fide Assessor," Neville said seriously.
"The Imperius Curse, blackmail, torture, hostages, pain of death, Confundus…" Astra rattled off.
"...That's kind of disturbing." Neville muttered.
"Dark families, Nev," Theo shrugged nonchalantly even though he was anything but. "You kind of have to learn it." He glanced around. "Anyone who doesn't know what those are? Granger?"
"Nope. I know them all." Hermione said proudly.
"Wow. You, champion of the Leader of the Light, know spoooooky Dark Magic?" He asked her, waving his fingers to emphasize it.
"I read, you know," She said snappishly. "And just because I defend him sometimes doesn't mean I'm his champion."
"Fair enough." Theo didn't push it.
I, {insert your name here}, do solemnly swear to never speak of Luna Lovegood's Assessor abilities to anyone outside of myself and the others present in this room without Luna Lovegood's express permission from herself and herself alone, given freely without coercion.
"There." Astra said smartly.
"Yes, it's ready," Hermione agreed. So she, Astra, Neville, and Theo raised their wands, closed their eyes, and spoke in tandem, Luna watching on with touched eyes.
"I, Hermione Granger, do solemnly swear to never speak of Luna Lovegood's Assessor abilities to anyone outside of myself and the others present in this room without Luna Lovegood's express permission from herself and herself alone, given freely without coercion." Her eyes were wide open as somewhere, deep in her mind, a lion roared.
"I, Astra Malfoy, do solemnly swear to never speak of Luna Lovegood's A-Assessor abilities to anyone outside of myself and the others present in this room without Luna Lovegood's express permission from herself and herself alone, given freely without coercion." She let green fire burn as threats of obliteration reached the nonexistent enemy that dared try and hurt her friend.
"I, Neville Longbottom, do solemnly swear to never speak of Luna Lovegood's…" He took a deep breath as his jaw, his body, his soul turned to steel as he spoke.. "Assessor abilities to anyone outside of myself and the others present in this room without Luna Lovegood's express permission from herself and herself alone, given freely without coercion."
"I, Theodore Nott, do solemnly swear to never speak of Luna Lovegood's Assessor abilities to anyone outside of myself and the others present in this room without Luna Lovegood's express permission from herself and herself alone, given freely without coercion." He spoke clearly, his mind calm and collected as the clouds masked the raging storm below.
AN: Wow! I didn't think I'd end that there! I honestly thought I'd write the duel in this one, but who knows, if the duel is too short, I'll just add this on and probably delete this AN - I don't get the point of writing this AN at all then, but I'm bored, and I have soooo much homework to do, but I can say I was writing as an excuse when I turn it in late.
And one more thing - Theo's story. In here, you can assume Theo invented it on the spot, so if you spot any inconsistencies, feel free to point them out but know that most of them are on purpose.

If you want to, you don't have to worry about info. I just need a name. You can give me as many details as you want as long as there is a name. If you do choose to do so, I can't promise I'll include all the details if there are many. I am open to the idea of a sibling to a character. This is an AU story- sky's the limit!
Stay safe, my friends!
