Chapter sixteen: The summer training camp, conclusion
Mr. Compress and Kurogiri were making their way to the lodge where the remedial class for the summer training camp was taking place. "I just got some info from Mustard who's just shown up at the lodge," Mr. Compress said to Kurogiri while holding a hand to the side of his head, obviously using a communication device, "The hero teachers from UA are occupied with trying to deal with Spinner, Twice, Magne, Moonfish who's been knocked out, and Muscular."
"Did he say anything about the UA students stuck at the lodge due to that silly little remedial class?" Kurogiri asked.
Mr. Compress nodded once in the affirmative. "He found the room that the students are all in without alerting them to his presence. He leaked some of his knockout gas into the room to take the students down harmlessly. He called me the moment that the last of the students had passed out. He already has the third and final capture target secured."
"This is going way better for us than I think any of us could have anticipated," Kurogiri said before he and Mr. Compress turned to face forward as they continued to make their way towards the lodge of the summer training camp. "...Our mission here," Kurogiri said, "Regardless of how well we succeeded or failed, will cause a blow to be dealt to this hero society that runs things. But I have faith, further bolstered by how much success we've seen thus far, that we'll pull of an absolute win here. All of us under Dabi, as well as under the true master, know what it's like to suffer due to how society, how the persons who made themselves into the powers that be, in run. We understand one another, hence why I think we've worked so well so far."
Mr. Compress gave another nod, this one in agreement. "Indeed. The first incarnation of the League, under that Shigaraki fellow, relied on a mass number of fodder. Our group here, though only a fraction of the size of what attacked that USJ place, is composed of elites. Anyway, what will we do when we get to the lodge?"
"Meet up with Mustard, who has the final capture target secured," Kurogiri said, "You use your quirk to compress the child for easy transport, then we gather everyone in the Vanguard Action Squad before leaving the heroes to relish in their failure."
"Sounds like a plan if I ever heard one," Mr. Compress replied as he and Kurogiri continued to make their way towards the training camp lodge. Their mission was getting close to completion, and it was looking to be an absolute victory for them. Yet another blow that will be dealt to the hero society that runs Japan.
Over at the summer camp's lodge, Aizawa and Sekijiro were running on fumes as they struggled to deal with the last of their opposition. They were able to also knock out and bind Muscular, so he and Moonfish were both down. But there was still Spinner, Magne, and most troublesome of all Twice. The two pro hero UA teachers leapt back to get some distance from the remaining villains. Three to two in favor of the villains was unsavory to begin with, but Twice using his quirk tipped the numbers so that it was six to one instead, giving a total of twelve enemies that Aizawa and Sekijiro had to deal with.
"That multiplying guy is the real thorn in our balls here, Shouta," Sekijiro said, huffing out an exhausted breath, "I think knocking out the real one might make things better for us.
Aizawa let out an exhausted huff as well before saying, "That's a logical idea to come to. Only problem is figuring out which is the real one, and then both keeping an eye on him and taking him out."
Spinner raised his katana and pointed it at Aizawa. "You heroes are always so obsessed with taking out folks you deem as threats to your precious society. It's attitudes like that which led to the great Stain being cut down by that flaming blowhard Endeavor before being able to finish his great work!"
"Great work?!" Sekijiro snarled, "He was killing pro heroes! He even killed one of Aizawa's students!"
The underground hero grimaced bitterly at what Sekijiro barked at the lizardman villain, remembering Tenya Iida, and how Aizawa himself was saddled with some of the blame for Iida's death by Stain's blades for failing to comprehend the possibility that Iida valued getting revenge for what Stain did to his older brother Tensei over following the rules as he was known to usually do. Aizawa still thought that it could be guaranteed that iida would have kept his nose clean simply by telling him to keep his nose clean. But ultimately, Iida ended up proving Aizawa wrong.
Being proven wrong. That's something that Aizawa doesn't like being done to him at all.
Getting into a stance for fighting as he and Sekijiro willed themselves to have second winds, Aizawa said, "You all are going to go down and be turned over to the police. You'll be... made to... pay... ..." Aizawa as well as Sekijiro soon lost consciousness as knock out gas flew around and in between them, and after both of the UA pro hero teachers collapsed onto the floor, Mustard came walking out from a hallway leading towards the remedial class's classroom.
Spinner, covering his mouth with a small gas mask he brought along, said, "Good work, Mustard."
The young villain nodded to Spinner in acknowledgement. "I have the final capture target separated from the rest of the students. Now all we need to do is wait for Kurogiri and Mr. Compress to get here and-"
"Speak of devils and they shall appear," Mr. Compress called out, cutting Mustard off and making him and the others in the lodge turn to see Mr. Compress and Kurogiri walk into the lodge via the large hole in the wall that Muscular had made to bust his way in previously. Mr. Compress looked around at the scene before him. "There's been no unnecessary killings, right?" Mr. Compress asked.
"None that I'm aware of," Mustard replied, "I especially made sure the capture target I have secured is alive and well, albeit knocked out." Gesturing for Mr. Compress to follow him, Mustard said, "Now then, I believe you're needed to perform one of your more famous magic tricks."
Mr. Compress let out an amused chuckle. "Indeed I am, it would seem. Lead the way, my good boy." With a nod, Mustard proceeded to escort Mr. Compress right to where the third and final capture target was kept separated from the rest of the Class 1-A students at the lodge. The mission that the Vanguard Action Squad came to the summer training camp to do was about to see a flawless victory in their favor.
Back where Mandalay, Itsuka, Tetsutetsu, Togaru, and Hiryu were struggling with Dabi, Rappa, Toga, La Brava, Gentle, and a hidden Nagant, Itsuka was still grasping her injured hand as she had to jump to get out of the way of an assault coming from Rappa. Right where Itsuka landed, Togaru rushed forward to slash at Rappa with the blades he had grow out of his forearms. ...Or at least he tried to, but was stopped short before getting a meter closer to Rappa when he felt a sudden, stabbing pain coming from his right side. Appropriate, as Toga snuck over and stabbed him there before taking her knife out and falling back.
"Togaru!" Hiryu called out, alarmed to see one of his classmates getting stabbed in the side.
"Grrr!" Togaru snarled in pain, covering his bleeding wound with his right hand, "Blades are only supposed to come out of me, not go into me as well!"
"You heroes are looking worn out," Dabi half remarked half taunted, "Maybe you ought to consider staying down and letting my fellows and I take care of our business here at your little summer training camp."
Growling defiantly, Mandalay shouted, "Never! You won't get away with your vile evil! You won't get away with kidnapping Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob! You won't get away with killing Tiger! You won't get away with your attack here, or your actions against the students from UA! And you certainly won't get away with kidnapping Endeavor's son, or so help me I'll-"
Mandalay was cut off when a large swirling dark portal appeared, followed by Kurogiri, Mr. Compress, Mustard, Magne, Spinner, Twice, an unconscious Moonfish, and an unconscious Muscular who was still wearing the unique cap with two horns, all coming out of the portal with the two unconscious villains being dropped onto the ground like sacks of potatoes, Muscular's hat coming off as he was dropped. Dabi saw the rest of his crew coming here as a boon, even though two of them had been knocked unconscious apparently. "...I take it you got the final capture target?" Dabi asked.
"Mustard proved invaluable by knocking out all of the hero students at the lodge with his knockout gas," Mr. Compress said. Taking out and holding three marbles, the dapperly dressed villain continued, "It allowed us to make capturing the young miss Yaoyorozu a cinch, adding her to the good ladies Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob that we got before arriving at the lodge."
"You guys were after Yaoyorozu instead?" Itsuka said, surprised that the villains were aiming for someone in the remedial class aside from Todoroki.
Shrugging, Dabi said, "Believe you me, the points raised on the value of taking Endeavor's bouncing baby boy are very much valid, and I do aim to eventually go after that flaming sack of crap that Japan calls its number two hero albeit more directly. But that's besides the point." Gesturing to where Mr. Compress stood as he put the compressed capture targets away, Dabi said, "You all seem to fail to realize that the Yaoyorozu brat can be just as if not more valuable of a target for us to kidnap. But I suppose you'll see what I mean soon enou-"
"Ooh!" Toga said as she more or less skipped over to where the knocked out Muscular laid on the ground. Picking up the hat that fell off of Muscular, Toga put it on as she said, "This is a neat hat!"
Mandalay, recognizing the hat in question, went wide eyed in shock. "...That's Kota's hat." Growling furiously, Mandalay snarled, "Where's Kota? What did you villain bastards do to him?"
"I'm going to be completely honest with you," Dabi said as he turned to face Mandalay, "I have no idea who this Kota person is. That's a question you'll have to ask Muscular, given he had the hat upon showing up."
"A question which," Kurogiri began as Nagant dashed up to join the rest of the Vanguard Action Squad, "I'm afraid, you won't get the chance to ask. We got what all we came here to get, and all of us in the Vanguard Action Squad are here and accounted for. This is where we'll be taking our leave, heroes. Take the time between now and when Dabi applies his plans involving the young miss Yaoyorozu to lick your wounds." Kurogiri then cast a portal around himself and the rest of the Vanguard Action Squad, disappearing with all of them as he said a final line before he and the other villains vanished.
"You're going to be needing it."
With those last words from the misty villain calling out, the whole of the Vanguard Action Squad disappeared, leaving Mandalay and the four 1-B students behind. They were unable to stop the villains from taking Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob. They were unable to stop the villains from taking the student in 1-A they were gunning after which as it turned out was Yaoyorozu. They had seen Tiger get killed, and Mandalay upon seeing the hat that fell from Muscular and was picked up by Toga had reason to fear the worse when it came to little Kota.
The heroes had lost. The heroes had lost bad.
About half an hour later, medical teams and some emergency rescue personnel came to the summer training camp site. Aside from the missing Yaoyorozu, all of the first year hero course students from UA were accounted for, and they all were going to be fine. The lot of them aside from Itsuka, Hiryu, Tetsutetsu, and Togaru were just knocked out with knockout gas, similar to how Aizawa and Sekijiro were knocked out. The four students of Sekijiro's who fought alongside the Pussycats were going to be fine, even Togaru who was treated for his stab wound which thankfully turned out to be nowhere near as bad as it could have been.
Additionally, many of those who were knocked out by the knockout gas were revived, including Aizawa and Sekijiro, both of whom immediately went about helping to gather the knocked out students laying in the woods. Mercifully, the villains who knocked the students out decided to leave them alone after knocking them out. Aizawa after looking up from where Bakugo, Shinso, Shinra, and Shizuo who were all still out of it were being treated saw Sekijiro carry Izuku over to a stretcher and laid him down on it so that the two medical team members could look over the green haired boy. The underground hero remembered overhearing that Izuku was shown some special treatment, and he was wanting to bring it up.
But he knew that bringing it up now of all times would be the height of being irrational, so he decided to hold his tongue on the matter. ...For now.
Tragically, some of the students saw medical team members zip up a bodybag that held Tiger's remains, as a somber Mandalay looked on while standing near a stretcher that an unconscious Kota was laying on. Mercifully, it turned out that Muscular had merely knocked Kota out, although knowing him he might have been aiming to kill despite what Dabi said about 'no killing unless absolutely necessary'; there was no way in hell it would have been necessary for Muscular to kill the young boy. Granted, Kota was found with a slight concussion and part of his left forearm was fractured, but considering the alternative Mandalay had considered Kota making it out of things here alive to be very good news.
Good news; something that the heroes were wanting to get their hands on as much as possible here.
They failed to protect a student from getting kidnapped, saw two of their own get kidnapped as well and a third one of their own getting killed, most of the remaining UA students at the camp were knocked out, one was stabbed, one broke her hand somewhat although that injury was finely mended soon enough, and a five-year-old child under their watch was helpless against a dangerous and powerful villain to assaulted and could have killed him. The pro heroes had suffered a blow so bad it made the USJ incident look like a mere slap on the wrist. The heroes knew full well that they were going to have to step it up, something that Aizawa and Sekijiro planned to do once they were able to recover Yaoyorozu, Ragdoll, and Pixie-Bob.
Something that the whole of UA's staff planned to do.
A day after the disaster that was the summer training camp, the staff of UA was having a meeting as protesters formed outside of the wall surrounding UA grounds. "Imma just come out and say it," Hizashi said, "This incident has got to be proof that there's a traitor in our midst. Only us staff members of UA and the Pussycats knew of the location of the summer training camp."
"We can't go hurlin' accusations like that now," Snipe said, "Especially since we've got to focus on getting miss Yaoyorozu, Ragdoll, and Pixie-Bob back."
Nezu nodded in agreement. "Yes, and for what it's worth I have complete and total faith in everyone here. But that's getting off subject." Leaning forward, Nezu rested his elbows on his place at the meeting table, covered one paw with the other as he rested his chin on top of that. The principal of UA wore a serious expression on his face. "...It would be a serious blow to UA if this second, newer League of Villains were able to convert miss Yaoyorozu to their cause. Seeing a hero course student turn to villainy would be a political blow that might very well lay UA low."
"Mandalay told Sekijiro and I that she feels that this new League of Villains had kidnapped Yaoyorozu solely to try ransoming her for money," Aizawa spoke up, "After all, her family is rather well known for being bar none the wealthiest in Japan."
Nemuri nodded in agreement. "The Yaoyorozu family is extraordinarily wealthy, yeah. Kidnapping a child from such a family then demanding a ransom would be right up the alley of villains like this Dabi fellow and his brood."
"Not to mention how this will undoubtedly draw the ire of one of the single wealthiest persons in Japan if not the world," Power Loader spoke up, "Considering the legacy that she comes from, perhaps UA should have invested at least some effort for security specifically for Yaoyorozu."
Snipe nodded in agreement, replying, "Yeah, that does make sen-"
"A PHONE CALL IS HERE! A PHONE CALL IS HERE!"
Snipe was cut off when All Might's voice sounded to be coming from an electronic device, only for Toshinori to pull out his phone. "Apologies, everyone," Toshinori said, "I have to take this." The Symbol of Peace got up and left the meeting room, closing the door behind him before answering his phone and holding it up to the side of his head. "Moshi moshi?"
"Hey Toshinori," Naomasa's voice came from the other end of the call, "I got some good news."
"What is it?" Toshinori asked.
"We got a lead that can possibly lead us to the villains who had attacked the training camp," Naomasa replied, "You and the other heroes at UA are gonna wanna get in on this, trust me!" Toshinori felt hopeful with the reveal Naomasa had just given.
The Symbol of Peace gave a nod, although his detective friend on the other end of the line couldn't see it. "I'll inform Nezu and the others right away."
...
As it turned out, Todoroki supplied the police with the tracking device necklace that Yaoyorozu had made and given to him in the off hand chance the villains captured him, Yaoyorozu making an identical one for herself that she put on and hid under her shirt so it could be used to track Todoroki's location. The necklaces worked both ways, meaning Todoroki's necklace can be used to track down where Yaoyorozu had been taken. Toshinori, in his All Might form, praised Todoroki for coming forward like that, as well as praised the foresight Yaoyorozu had when she and the others all thought that Todoroki was the student that the villains came to the summer training camp to abduct.
Furthermore, they saw that the device was pointing out a certain bar that info the police got confirmed saw members of the second League of Villains go in and out of a few weeks prior; this info on the bar came from a completely unrelated investigation. All that remained now was for the police and heroes to plan a mission to raid the bar in the hopes of rescuing Yaoyorozu, Ragdoll, and Pixie-Bob. Naomasa asked Toshinori if he wanted to be in on the raid, to which the Symbol of Peace who was in his strong form at the time put his fists on his waist and gave a boisterous laugh before giving his responce.
"I'd like to see anyone try to keep me from joining in on that mission!"
The mission to raid the bar was already looking to be a success, what with All Might himself taking part. Given the extreme danger that this second League of Villains was posing, more than just All Might and a bunch of police were being called in; many other top heroes were also going to be called in, with Naomasa saying that so far only Endeavor is confirmed. But Toshinori knew that many more would join the efforts, and even Gran Torino was volunteering to help out with the rescue mission as well. Things were looking great for the heroes already, looking like this would be the moment things began to turn around for them.
Toshinori, in his excitement over what all's been built up for the mission to rescue Yaoyorozu and two of the Pussycats, couldn't think of anything that could go wrong.
"With the gift that miss Pixie-Bob has so generously given, Felgrand now has his full complement. He's ready to get to work for you, my dear Dabi."
Dabi, with the rest of the League of Villains, was sitting around in the bar that they had made their hideout as the master spoke from the laptop located behind the bar. The villains were celebrating their sound victory at the summer training camp that the heroes were running. "Well what about Ragdoll?" Dabi asked, "Doesn't she have a quote unquote 'gift' that she could have given?"
"She did and gave it," the master's voice replied, "But I kept the gift for myself. It's such a marvelous gift, I just had to have it. It wouldn't work out at all if given to Felgrand though, given he'll need to be at his best for battle, and what Pixie-Bob offered would serve him far better in that field than what Ragdoll had to offer. But that is getting off subject. I confess a curiosity as to why you kidnapped the Yaoyorozu girl, my dear Dabi."
Dabi took a swig from his mug of beer before saying, "It's part of an ultimate plan that I have to screw with the heroes. The fact that I'll squeeze out a fat paycheck from it in the process is just icing on the cake."
The master's voice from the laptop gave an amused hum of a laugh. "Very well. You seem to know what you're doing, my dear Dabi. You're picking up more things and at a quicker rate than my previous successor did. If I had foreseen that, then I would have recruited you sooner." The other end of the chat turned off, leading to the laptop behind the bar turning off on its own.
After that, Mustard spoke up. "So when will you submit the ransom demand for the rich girl?" the young villain asked Dabi.
"I should probably make the ransom demand video I'll send in soon," Dabi admitted, "I just need someone to operate the camera for me, as well as someone else to help me figure out what all to put into the script."
"I'm a whiz at working a camera," La Brava said as she held up a hand to volunteer.
Mr. Compress said while gesturing to himself, "And I have a way with the written word. I can help do up the script for the ransom demand video."
Dabi gave a smirk of amusement. "Well alright. It looks like we're in business here." Dabi then proceeded to chuckle a bit, which prompted some of the other members of the League of Villains to laugh as well.
The following day at a hospital in the city, Yosetsu, Juzo, and Nirengeki, all of them having recovered from being subjected to knockout gas, were seen walking through a hallway in the hospital. They made their way over to a door that led into a patient room. Inside, they saw Tokoyami and Uraraka from Class 1-A, also having recovered from being subjected to that knockout gas, sitting at the bedside of Izuku, who was still out of it. "The dude still hasn't woken up?" Yosetsu said, a notable hint of worry in his tone, "Is he going to be okay or what?"
"The doctor's confirmed that there's nothing wrong with Midoriya and that he'll awaken on his own soon enough," Tokoyami replied, "Uraraka and I just came here to see how he's doing is all."
Dark Shadow popped out from Tokoyami, saying, "Hey, don't forget about me! I wanted to see how Green Bean's doing too!"
Nirengeki turned to look at Uraraka, Tokoyami, and Dark Shadow before asking them, "How are you guys doing since one of your classmates had been kidnapped by the villains who attacked the training camp?"
"Oh, the girls are all up in a tizzy over Yaoyorozu being taken," Uraraka remarked, worry clear in her expression and tone, "I can understand how they feel. But All Might and a bunch of other heroes as well as a bunch of police will be getting Yaoyorozu back, not to mention those Ragdoll and Pixie-Bob ladies. We just need to-"
"There you two are!" Mina's voice called out, cutting Uraraka off and making her as well as the boys all turn to see Mina standing in the doorway leading into Izuku's hospital room. "Uraraka, Tokoyami, come on," Mina said, "There's something that we need to discuss." Seeing that they were being summoned by their class, Uraraka and Tokoyami got up and left with Mina, leaving the boys from 1-B alone.
Once the 1-A students were gone, Juzo, Yosetsu, and Nirengeki turned to look at Izuku. "...It sucks major donkey dong that the villains took Momo," Yosetsu remarked, "But Uraraka's right. We ought to have faith in All Might, the other heroes, and the police that they'll rescue Momo as well as two of the Wild, Wild Pussycats." Gesturing to where Izuku laid asleep in his hospital bed, Yosetsu went on, "For now, we ought to worry about our bro here."
"Yeah, Midoriya's still out of it," Juzo said, "We owe it to him, as both a fellow classmate in 1-B and as a friend, to keep an eye over him until he comes to. I know full well he'd do the same for any of us if we had our positions swapped." Nirengeki said nothing, but nodded in agreement as he along with Juzo and Yosetsu took to sitting in Izuku's hospital room to keep an eye over him. They hoped that Izuku would wake up soon enough, because they were getting the feeling that they were going to be needing him, now more than ever.
END, CHAPTER SIXTEEN
Author's notes;
Here we see the fallout of the summer training camp disaster, where it's Yaoyorozu who was kidnapped from among the students; although Dabi DOES plan to get a ransom out of having kidnapped Yaoyorozu, that's actually just a side-effect and NOT the main point of Dabi wanted to make in taking Yaoyorozu. The heroes and police are already gearing up to mount a rescue mission, but they aren't the only ones prepping for the inevitable confrontation. Soon enough, things will be seeing the emergence of the greatest villain the heroes will be dealing with here. What will happen will throw all of Japan into upheaval, so don't touch that dial.
