Fly Yoshi Fly
Alrighty welcome back for some more in hopefully this passable work. I don't have much to say besides the usual so I won't waste your time anymore.
Mario and Mario Strikers Charged are owned by Nintendo and Next Level games. All rights go to them.
Light could be seen at the end of the tunnel, hypothetically of course. Stakes were being settled and places were being cemented.
It was far from over as every team had a reasonable chance to clinch a spot in the playoffs. All participated at full potential battling to eek in or keep ahead of the pack in the race for the knockouts.
First on the table The Palace housed Daisy and Wario to start the scheduled trio of games. Big hits were on full display during the rugged bout on the grounds of mutual disdain. Daisy proved to be too much, being triumphant with a final margin of one to nothing.
Next on the books Waluigi had the young Bowser Jr visit him in The Underground. The noteworthy star of the game was Waluigi's defensive back Monty Mole. The burrowing rat scored a hat trick outscoring BJ's side three to one carrying the Thorn Bushes to a win.
Ending the seventh week Mario had the honor of sparing his lovable steed. Yoshi had quite the turn around since his slow two loss beginnings. After their week two showdown the mean green machine rattled three straight wins against Wario, Waluigi and Bowser Jr.
The run of wins gave Yoshi his first taste of a winning record. All was going well until last week. Daisy cracked through the dinosaur's winning momentum besting him in overtime.
Holding a three win two loss and one overtime loss record Yoshi placed respectfully in third place. The tough two week stretch continued today. The unlucky green steed had the unfortunate prospect of competing versus the top two teams.
The primetime match also possessed a disadvantage tailor made against Yoshi, the field. The Lava Pit would be the arena in the week seven rematch.
Yoshi always had an irrational fear of lava. The fear stemmed long ago, from as long as Mario could remember Yoshi would without fail refuse to enter Bowser's fortresses.
It wasn't until Mario was experimenting with his fire hand in his backyard he knew the full extent of the phobia. Yoshi let out a fearful cry seeing the red spark come from his most trusted companion's hand and fled to the woods behind his modest abode.
Mario watched in bewilderment, totally clueless of what he did as the portly plumber entered the woods after his buddy. Mario used the green reptile's line of footprints tracking him under a tree.
Yoshi was trembling with his hands hiding his eyes and body glued to the ground. Little whimpers escaped from his mouth completely overtaken by fright.
Mario silently tipped toed to Yoshi, he stepped on a small branch creating a loud crack sound made worse with the quiet nature of the woods. Yoshi removed his hands seeing Mario, shoe still on the broken stick.
Yoshi panicked, leaving his tree blindly running. Mario cut off the dinosaur's path with his hands out in clear view for the loyal steed to see.
"Steady…, I'm-a not going to hurt you." Mario said in a hush voice slowly approaching the meek steed.
Yoshi almost scampered but his master placed his gloved hand on the back of the orange-shoed creature. In a display of gentleness Mario stroked his head and neck repeating the action soothing the two legged creature.
Yoshi after many minutes rested in a curled up position in a light slumber. Mario never left his side, still petting his first friend through the entire afternoon. From that day Mario learned of Yoshi's phobia of thermophobia.
The captains' teammates and goalies were on the molten rock field waiting for the two's arrival.
Mario's sidekicks knew this pitch all too well. This field held their biggest triumph, lifting the Fire Cup almost a year ago. But the two games were not fun in the slightest.
Vivid memories of the unendurable heat and randomly falling fireballs floated in their minds. The burns and scars might have been long gone but the memories would never leave good or bad.
The reintroduction with Yoshi's sidekicks was amicable enough. Koopa, Toad and Birdo greeted the reds kindly and the Fireballs acted the same. The rivalry had passion and respect not being drowned in hatred.
"We're back where we won it all. It's good to be back, kind of," Kenny said sentimentally remembering their first major cup win as a unit.
Henry eyed the Koopa not seeing his nostalgic faith. "Um no! This is so unfair, this is the second time we've had to play in a inferno! Are they trying to off us?!"
"Come on Henry, this isn't all too bad. Remember, we won our first cup here!" Dean passionately trying to drum up good faith in the miffed Hammer Bro.
Henry sighed in defeat. "I guess but I'm not a fan of this place in general. I think it's hotter here than the Sand Tomb".
Kenny gave an assured grin, placing a hand on Henry's shell. "We made it out of here twice before and I know we can a third time!"
Dean's smile still remained strong, Henry resisted but a smirk grew on his mouth giving in. They've been doing so well, some lava couldn't hinder them.
Yoshi fell in, out of his element the steed shook in his armor. The ocean of lava nearly made him faint by its sheer size. The chants of the locals of Bowser's Kingdom didn't relax his stress, loud and demanding damage at the expense of the players involving the sinister molten liquid.
"Is he ok?" Henry whispered, leaning to Kenny.
"I don't know, he seems scared." Kenny brought to light, never seeing someone so immobilized by fear.
"Maybe he's scared by how good we are." The arrogant right fielder boasted. Dean grinned at his childhood friend's preposterous logic chuckling.
Unaware the red sidekicks were startled by Mario's entrance landing hard but well on his knee. The plumber had a sad expression, under no circumstance did he want to witness the individual who saved his life succumb to a mental breakdown.
"How you-a doing yosh?" Mario asked in a soft voice, a sad smile trying to masquerade his worry.
Yoshi couldn't do anything but whimper hearing a bubble in the lava explode. Mario's miserable smile fell to a sorrowful frown feeling the fear in the animal's eyes. They were moist and shell shocked.
The game would not be fun for either. Yoshi was practically on the verge of losing it. Mario was dishearten at the thrown away spectacle of a game. He enjoyed their first contest and to see the second game be hindered made the plumber doleful.
The select few who came all the way to witness the sport live were hunkered in prepared to watch. The teams' aligned mirroring one another amidst the scorching air. The horn sounded off starting the final game of the Sunday.
Yoshi stayed in place allowing Mario to take the ball. The reds had first pressure within the opening gates. Henry had the Eggs on the run threating his heavy hammer. Dean held back in case something awry occurred.
Mario passed the ball off to Kenny after being pestered by Yoshi's own Koopa. Kenny ventured to the left sideline beginning his dash. Mid march Yoshi stepped in the way of the running Koopa.
Almost reluctantly Yoshi moved in, making Kenny ready himself. Out of the blue Yoshi screamed worryingly fleeing the scene. The perplexed turtle stood in disbelief, he checked around seeing why the dinosaur left.
His eyes expanded, his lips agape. A massive fireball was in the air and free falling, at him.
"Aw crap," he let out before being covered in the boiling liquid.
Toad had the piping hot ball going in Mario's left half of the field. Dean already anticipating, shadowed the mushroom. Toad had minimal space in part of Dean's smothering man to man coverage.
Toad quickly changed his direction of movement on the fly. The relentless Dry Bones wouldn't be fooled as he just as effortlessly moved on a whim.
Dean threw a punch at the nimble fungus' head. Toad acted swiftly flipping over Dean escaping being pinned between him and the electric fence. Dean tried to follow but his feet were swiped from under him.
Yoshi let his tongue out far ahead. He whipped his head clipping Dean's legs coming to the rescue of his Toad sidekick. Even during his most vulnerable time, Yoshi still had fight in him.
Toad chipped the ball high over Kingston. The Kritter kept his cool in the hot climate jumping, capturing the ball. On the ground the red uniformed goalie punted the ball out deep on the other side of the rock pitch.
The Eggs' green Birdo caught the ball in her mouth no problem. Mario dashed at the bow wearing powerhouse only to be caught in a whirlwind. Birdo twirled on one foot, aggressively pulling in the plumber and threw him out scraping his mustached face on the field.
Birdo blew the ball across the middle line dividing the field. Yoshi received the ball, Henry made his way to the metal sphere to take it back.
Yoshi's attention never acknowledged the incoming Hammer Bro, instead he returned to panic and ran mindlessly. The scared steed crashed into Henry knocking him on his shell.
The red offensive player shook his head, regaining his eyesight. Placing a hand on his helmet his heart sank. A giant ball of lava was in his direct eyesight arriving his way.
Henry struggled immensely trying to unstuck himself. Swing back and forth, flailing his arms and legs but to no use. Opening his eyes for a glimpsing moment the great ball of fiery orange all he saw before being struck.
This was all too much for the green leader. Two close calls for being set a blaze he had to get out of here. Yoshi fluttered in the air with the ball leaving the magma lake. At the peak of his jump he inhaled, holding his breath turning his head a dark shade of red. He blew the pressurized air breaking the ball apart in a group of six.
Kingston bunkered in at the fairly slow moving soccer balls. They descended one at a time, every single one being shooed back by the Fireball's goalkeeper. Without stress Kingston held his place as the premier goalie of the league.
Mario made sure to manage some sort of attack, bringing Dean they both neared the opposing Kritter. Birdo stepped in the way only to be decked by Dean leading the charge.
Despite the duo's best efforts they were ultimately denied by the stingy Kritter. Dean passed the ball over to be hit with a power right kick from the athletic plumber. The shot came short, going in the hands of the Eggs' keeper.
The green goalie made a foolish mistake throwing the ball to Birdo. She was ambushed once again by Mario and Dean in a coordinated effort in the skeleton slide tackling her and the Italian man bashing her head on with his shoulder.
The two were set to give it another round but to their disbelief they were thwarted. First three green shells cracking the bones of Dean neutralizing the defensive speedster.
Mario took a step back in the dark of who attacked Dean. His left foot, the foot he stepped back with was gripped. His leg wrapped by a pink slimy tongue, following the wet appendage his eyes linked with Yoshi's.
The gaze was short-lived, ending with Yoshi spinning. Mario went on the whirling unwillingly gaining a headache and off kilter vision. The dizzy torture finished with the green dinosaur throwing the plumber back first in the voltage wall.
Mario suffered the agonizing torment of the damaging electricity had on his body. He couldn't hold in screams of anguish before falling to his knees and collapsing from the pain closing his eyes, unable to keep them open.
Kenny and Henry recovered from their skin torching, able to join back in. Both awoke to more chaos as a full frontal attack of greens and only them two fit to defend.
The Eggs betted all their chips all four fielders crossing using the four on two advantage. To the dismay of the greens the two turtles held firm. Henry to the contrary of his play style made the task of going by him a hassle.
Errors happened, having to keep tabs on four always moving people with half the numbers. Kingston as the final line bent but did not break under the tremendous pressure.
A well powered shot from Yoshi's green Koopa was blocked in a desperate leap by the red's persistent goalie. The ball skidded, bouncing on the dark rock field undisturbed and freely.
Birdo trotted to the ball leaning down sucking the ball in her mouth. The best potential scorer the female striker balled her fists to her chest and held her head a bit back. She was charging her boiled egg skillshot, a definite goal if she was allowed to finish the charging of power she needed to store in the ball.
Milliseconds before the sure fire goal Birdo was blindly attacked from behind. The girl player scraped her face on the rough fielding taking a brutal fall. Standing above her stood proudly was the Fireballs' own defender, Dean.
After being on the receiving end of the hard hitting shells the undead turtle fell apart. All alone he reconstructed his body, the tiresome chore took a grueling amount of time. When able to stand Dean came straight to the aid of his two friends, finding an ideal moment to intervene, checking Yoshi's own defender.
The ball rolled from the impact away from Dean escaping along the sideline. The agile Dry Bones chased hopping over the limp body of Birdo. Almost retaining the shiny soccer ball Dean unsuspectedly was bulldozed in the electric fence.
Toad of all people landed the devastating hit. The pint sized fungus now had control of the ball making a quick pass to the center middle of the home side's half of the pitch.
Yoshi stopped the ball, halting it under his cleat. He once again fluttered jumped soaring in the sky. Kenny gave it his all diving for the legs of the dinosaur missing him before taking off.
Yoshi took in a large swab of air and blew it out. The ball only broke four ways but with a catch, they were falling fast!
Kingston was ill prepared, a second megastrike in such limited space off each other, absurd the Kritter thought. In spite of the great performance Mario's goalie had, even he couldn't be invincible forever.
Two of the four squeezed by Kingston's guard. The last shot crashed hard on Kingston's noggin causing him to fall with the ball in the goal.
Yoshi sprinted to the center of the rectangle field. Yoshi waggled his tail in bliss, the green captain noticed his wiggling tail. Acting on his good will he chased his tail in a circle letting out cheery cries.
Mario weakly raised his eyelids. A nagging headache rocked the plumber's frontal lobe putting a feeble hand on his forehead on a tuft of hair and eye. A small recollection of prior events entered his mind.
Interrupting the red leader's train of thought were the ruckus Yoshi was making. Him running after his tail couldn't be a good sign. Taking a glimpse at the scoreboard he saw the undeniable two.
Mario found himself back to his feet. Patting his attire down, thankfully nothing seemed to be out of order. He was fortunate to come out with no broken or fractured bones and only minor pain at the bottom of his back.
Regardless of the multi goal the Fireballs' captain admired his team's tenacity accepting they were outnumbered playing in the face out unfavorable conditions. The act gave him confidence that if he was knocked out the rest of them could still lead themselves.
It almost made the plumber's question his own viability and worth. The shelled ones and Kritter could very easily win without him, but he would never let'em know the thought.
Both sides returned to their starting positions. Mario lined up at center court, hands resting on hips. Head tilted down, the shadow created by the brim of his hat hid his eyes.
His demeanor sharped, a more stern outlook was required. Even though he and Yoshi's past he wouldn't let it interfere with the atmosphere. They were in a competition, in the restricted time the good times were thrown out, only the score and teams mattered.
Yoshi against all hurdles performed to standards. When the sky wasn't raining lava the green all rounder made his mark handling control of the ball and keeping the reds at bay with the threat of his tongue.
Just on time two massive fireballs landed leaving behind lava pools on two thirds of the midline. If anyone desired to cross by only a tiny section on the top side bridged the two sides easy for defending and countering.
Kenny met in the path of Toad in the minuscule area. The Koopa patiently allowed the quick mushroom to make his way to him awaiting to pounce.
Kenny leaped to action, closing the space mere inches separating the two. Toad in self defense stiff armed the turtle's jaw with a powerful push of his palm.
The wallop caused Kenny to grunt, head pushed back, pain swelling in his neck. But instead of falling back an anger built up in the Koopa.
Kenny's eyes popped and a furious glare began to form. Shaking off the arm thrust the heated Koopa grappled the fungus, teeth tightly pressed.
Toad did not expect Kenny to retaliate so fast. Kenny with no real thought threw Toad in one of the bodies of lava. The little fungus caught on fire soaring the instant he made contact with the skin dissolving liquid.
The heated Koopa made off with the ball cutting around Toad convulsing with parts of him still on fire. He wasn't alone, Henry already happened to be in Yoshi's half. Birdo marked the Hammer Bro following him around the pitch.
Kenny in the middle free from interruption charged the ball. Seconds later a giant hollow white shell formed and kicked forward with a great kick by Kenny.
Henry was sick of the green Birdo, constantly grabbing him back when he managed to keep some space. During the thought he saw Kenny's shell smash shot, the indestructible freight train. An idea formed in his head.
He lured Birdo at the path the shell was taking its way to the goal. He turned and shoved the female striker to the ground. Before the dinosaur could stand she was flatten under the incoming shell in the rock fielding.
The giant shell gained plenty of momentum, crushing Yoshi's goalie. The shell burst open hitting the goal frames, the ball flying out.
The fully charged ball fell by Henry in a showcase of incredible luck. The Hammer Bro put some flash in the goal giving the shot a brilliant curve with a while streak tagged to the ball.
Henry ran and jumped at Kenny hand held up and extended. Kenny matched the enthusiasm meeting him in the air finishing the high five.
A good quick response by the red chipping into the lead of Yoshi. More scores were needed but time was in the handfuls in the primetime match with more than three minutes left.
Yoshi's Koopa had possession, finding his path in the home team's side. Henry, the man of the spotlight not too long ago, stood in the Koopa's way.
Mario's power shooter recklessly engaged in attacking with his mallet. The turtle briskly dodged back letting the swing whiff. The Koopa dashed forward, he struck a damaging elbow in the stunned Hammer Bro.
Henry bellowed from the strike to his neck. He slammed on the ground hitting his head hard on the landing.
An instant replay displayed the gruesome counter. In the video you could see spit coughed out during the grunt. The sick thud his head made with the pitch also twisted the stomachs of even the most hardened veteran viewers of the sport.
The turtle wrestled Dean off his back ducking another failed lunge. Kingston felt the danger and bunkered near his left post.
The balanced fielder passed the ball on a whim catching Kingston blind. Yoshi almost in the goal box fluttered up to head the ball.
The flying reptile was ready to smash his face in the ball, cocking his head. Yoshi had an unpleasant welcome, Mario's goalie catapulted in the air in equal comparison to the Eggs' captain.
Kingston drove his fist in Yoshi's right cheek clobbering the friendly steed. The pummeled dinosaur was directed into the ground, the croc's fist lodged in his face.
The impact created a small crater from the sheer force. The act was brutal but achieved the goalie's aspiration, not allowing the ball to sink in the net. He snatched the ball, tossing it, returning to the open field.
Kenny dribbled the lightly powered ball dashing across the new layer of volcanic rock from the dried lava. Passing the sphere to the plumber, the Koopa went deeper into Yoshi's side of the field.
"I'll keep Birdo out of your hair, stay safe!" Kenny stated his agenda, throwing himself at the green defender distracting her.
Mario would always be grateful for Kenny relisting, returning to his team. The two had a certain chemistry where they already knew each other's next moves. Competing side by side in the original striker games gave them a bond after many games.
He trusted the Koopa entirely. He had full faith in the entire team but the left fielder had his for much longer. The affiliation was a key link to the fluent style of play the squad had no other could equal besides Daisy's own squad.
Easing in his spot the plumber prepared to elevate for a megastrike attempt. Rapid footsteps tapped on the field driven by desperation. The home captain was too intranet in his own world not hearing the marching steps.
"HERE I COME!" went the battle cry of a shrill intense voice.
Mario broke from his trance as his ear picked up the shout. Turning his head, the red leader saw Yoshi's little Toad steaming right at him, on the attack.
Mario swerved in time for Toad to miss. The mushroom didn't give up trying again to which the protector of the Mushroom Kingdom veered.
Mario was in a pickle, his back pinned against the electric fence at Toad's mercy. The diminished fungus revved restarting his assault on the charismatic plumber. Throwing his head the Eggs' playmaker went forward.
Mario stepped to the side and did a full rotation around the Toad's body. The move looked so simple but effective and well implemented.
Toad braked only barely managing to stay out of the voltage fence. He could sense the lines of electricity lusting to pull him in just out of its grasp. The playmaker shivered even in the heat devoured stadium.
Unbeknown to the Toad, Mario was still behind him. The plumber could still evade the charges of the green right fielder but it wouldn't matter. Getting hit or dodging, Toad would keep him distracted and someone else from the Eggs could lay him out.
An idea crossed the fire hand master. He grabbed the back of Toad's head and aggressively shoved him in the electric fence.
Mario however didn't let go, holding the mushroom man as hard as he could in place. He could feel some of the currents, it stung but with Toad soaking most of the damage he could still stand.
Finally letting go, Toad fell on his side limp. Holding his arm the green fielder cried in agony eyes clam shut.
Mario felt appalled by his actions. Never did he think he could do such a vile act with no precaution or second thought. He truly felt remorseful but it was the name of the game, even if allowed it didn't sit well.
Pushing the dark thoughts Mario returned to the ball, the metal sphere despite all odds in the scuffle stayed put. The plumber calmed before leaving the arena in a gust of fire.
Looking below the stadium was nearly unseeable from his height. Pinpointing the opposing net Mario divided the ball five ways. The five shots were coming in fast and with major power.
Yoshi's Kritter attempted his best but fell short. Two shots penetrated the net while three were prevented. The defending was quite passable but the two scores were enough for Mario to take the lead.
Three two score gave the Fireballs their first lead of the night. The match was anything but a landslide besides the greens having been ahead for over half the contest. The tides turned now Mario as the frontman and Yoshi playing catch up
Both sides lined back in reasonable time. Yoshi for the first time started with the ball in center circle. The crowd demanded more thoroughly enjoying the spectacle sport on their day off from responsibility and work.
Restarting the game the Eggs fell flat as the Fireballs struck from the get go. Mario dashed, intercepting the ball midpass from Yoshi to Koopa.
The shelled all rounder was about to pursue the plumber. Before he could jet off a blunt force caved in the left fielder's knee.
"AHHHHHHHHHHHH!" cried the Koopa dropping to the floor holding his leg to his chest.
Standing over the distressed turtle, his assailant held the instrument, a hammer used to bash his leg flung over his shoulder. A wicked smile spread across his face with pure satisfaction radiating off his features.
"Not so fun being on the other end huh," Henry mocked the injured perpetrator, earlier accountable for blasting an elbow in his neck.
"Nothing to say?" the sadistic Hammer Bro said as more of an insult to further hurt the pride of his enemy. Not getting a response Henry scoffed, leaving the Koopa and joining in the push ahead.
Mario boosted forward pushing Birdo out of his path. Face to face with Yoshi's goalie the plumber chipped the ball backwards to the wonder of all.
The ball flew back, set up for a header. Kenny had a running start gaining speed before jumping and diving. Using his crown the ball changed directions going at Yoshi's net.
Many predicted a sure fire score, the attempt seemed too well orchestrated to fail. The lime green uniformed goalkeeper threw his body in the way bearing the brunt in his chest.
The massive force of the full powered ball had carried the Kritter powerless to change the crash's trajectory. The ball pushed him in the left steel post, taking the entire impact on the spine.
The goalie somehow was still on his feet refusing to go down. His eyes displayed tiredness but defiance staring out at the red fielders. He uncovered the maximized powered ball held to his chest. Confidence lit his features showing off the white hued ball.
Kenny grew miffed but didn't let it be known by his monotone look. A goal was what the reds could have used, pushing the game out of single goal range. At least then the home side could suspect and know to not allow a megastrike.
The green Birdo jogged with carefulness, the Fireballs loomed eager to steal the ball from her. She had the good fortune of Yoshi accompanying her as a line of protection.
The middle became a jumbled mess of strife. The ball traveled in and out of the cleats of the players, no one had possession for more than a few seconds.
Henry lost the ball falling over Kenny's back foot. Mario and Toad saw the ball roll between their toes. The two entered a foot race up the middle split line. The nimble fielder gained a step over the plumber who lagged behind.
Toad lost his lead when his gaze shifted up. He stopped, unable to use his legs. Mario noticed the worrisome features of the fungus and slowed his pace. The air became heavier, as if a massive blanket tapped you but you couldn't remove it.
Mario shifted his eyes upwards and gritted his teeth. A ball of lava was in the sky on a course for the two. Toad yelled out a panic scream, Mario closed his eyes bracing for imminent attack.
The fireball landed, a great geyser-like splash happened after the enormous collision. The crash sent shock waves through the arena, everyone holding their ground to not be swept away.
"Oh no," murmured Dean, seeing the devastation of orange and red mix in an unbelievable picture of chaos.
The molten liquid settled revealing its inside. Covering a heap of the field spectacularly two stood in the middle.
Mario and Toad in a brilliant stroke of luck were unharmed on a little island. Toad huffed a relieved sigh looking all over him to see if he was dreaming.
"Just perfect, we're-a sitting ducks." Mario huffed. Stranded in the pond of lava the red leader could do nothing but watch, his jumping would be no good in escaping as the circle's radius was far too great for him to clear.
"Speak for yourself, I'll find a way out!" Toad optimistically said, countering the guardian of the Mushroom Kingdom's realistic attitude.
"Can I-a ask how you-a plan on leaving?"
Toad shrugged his shoulders with a wolfish smile. "I don't know."
General confusion crossed the plumber's face. Here standing by him was the person not long ago he had by the head in the electric fence. Now the speedster was talking to him, no anger or disdain in his voice as to hide.
The Italian leader was about to speak before holding his words back. Yoshi swaddles his soft-toned pink tongue around Toad's waist. He fished him out of the middle of the lava, placing the right fielder safely next to him.
Next the reptile steed suctioned the ball out, to his possession. He waved goodbye to the stun Mario in a adorable way prior to running off.
Mario's jaw dropped. Incredible! He thought, now he was all alone waiting for the lava to cool. As for now, all he could was watch on.
Kenny attempted a flanking maneuver while Yoshi was dribbling. He caught the dinosaur blind and ill prepared but was saved by a brutal force. The Koopa suffered a rough ride bouncing off the ground.
Birdo came to the assistance of Yoshi, repelling the body check. The away team's captain thanked his defender with a small nod. He soon left after returning to the sky.
For the third time Yoshi attempted a megastrike to Kingston's horror. He counted four metal balls and fixed his glare upwards.
The home team goalie dove to the right, breaking the first shot. The second and third were also broken before entry in the net. Lastly the final metallic ball tucked in his chestplate. He held his footing, defiant to the end the crocodile had his second megastrike shutout keeping the narrow lead.
The lava cooled allowing the mustached plumber to rejoin in the haywire. Kingston pointed him out with a smug smile, his eyes connecting with the captain's own captivating blue ones.
"Head up meatball! Here it comes!" Kingston announced tossing the ball with an overhand technique.
Mario was taken back, he brought down the ball with his chest letting the sphere fall to his feet. Conviction lit the plumber's features washing over him. He flashed a thumbs up before invading Yoshi's side.
Mario wasn't let go so easily. Yoshi's Koopa recuperated enough to walk heading in the plumber's direction. The red leader felt the turtle's presence approaching and set his plan in motion.
He traveled following the top sideline tapping the ball. The green shelled fielder took an upwards diagonal angle closing the gap with each step. Mario grinned and turned dramatically.
He threw off the Koopa with a quick cut to the inside. In the process Mario swiped the Koopa from under his feet with his own leg reaggravating his sore knee. Henry's ambush had consequential effects assisting the red leader indirectly.
Yoshi's goalie eyed the nearing capped captain, bending his knees in preparation. Mario steadily got nearer causing the opposing goalie to tense up. More panic sank in the Kritter's head when Mario suddenly kicked the ball away to the other sideline.
Henry snuck through the enemy's lines from the bottom side. His presence brought the opportunity for some trickery. Mario hogged the Kritter's attention allowing the normally rowdy Hammer Bro to slip unnoticed.
Henry went up and with pure power smashed the ball with his hammer without finesse. It connected with the goalie's chest but wouldn't be stop, carrying the crocodile in the net. Horns gave the signal the score was certified.
Henry ran up to Mario jumping in his arms. The plumber caught him and held him up. The hammer wielding sidekick raised his hands to the adoring crowd. The lead stood four two.
With Henry's second goal the game was sealed as time winded down until it reached zero. In the shining lights Mario and Henry excelled, netting two goals. Week seven added another victory in their cap.
The most valuable player had to go to Kingston only allowing two goals out of fifteen megastrike shot attempts keeping his team afloat.
The postgame antics were charming with Mario and Yoshi sharing an emotional embrace. The red captain softly spoke to Yoshi about how proud he was of him playing through his fears.
Another week survived the fragile win streak held by a thread. The streak would be on the line once again against someone who had an everlasting gripe versus the plumber.
The young prince of the Koopa Kingdom had the rematch circled on his calendar of his Father's most hated adversary and would bring honor to his and family's name. The week couldn't go slower for Bowser Jr.
Author's Notes
Hey! Good to see you reached the end, I hope the way down here was fun and left you wanting more.
I had a lot of fun write about Yoshi and the always frantic setting of the Lava Pit. I hope my explaining of Yoshi being afraid of lava made sense, in my headcanon Yoshi having thermophobia made sense since in Super Mario World Yoshi would never enter any of Bowser's castles. So from there I took what the developers gave me and figured Yoshi must of feared lava since almost all Bowser castles are filled with them.
I know that was a bit wordy but I wanted to put forward how and why I added the fear in the story. It added another layer to the chapter to included and work with adding a foil for Yoshi. If you don't like it I totally understand and if you want to ignore it go ahead if it makes it more enjoyable for you.
I catch you next time, have a safe one!
