Tripp got them back up in the air and headed home. Daisy ran the satellite search the whole time, waiting for the magical ding that told them they had a match.
After landing back home, Coulson held a mission briefing. Hydra had the obelisk and someone who knew how to use it but they needed to go to the temple in the alien city. They wanted to launch an extinction level event to kill millions.
But Hydra didn't know where the city was while SHIELD did. It was located in San Juan, Puerto Rico underground. Most of the entrances were under the ocean floor except one. And they were going to use that tunnel to blow the city to hell before Hydra could get to it.
While on the plane, Daisy got word that Senator Ward was dead. She pulled up a news cast and saw his home was set on fire with him and his parents inside it.
"You know Ward did this." Daisy said to her mother who was standing right next to her.
"Not a doubt in my mind." May confirmed.
Daisy said the senator should have let them help and now they needed to put Ward down.
Coulson came in at that moment and said they would be splitting up teams. At first Daisy thought they would be going after Ward but no. Hydra had tried to grab Raina in Vancouver but not kill her. They wanted her for something. They obviously knew SHIELD had found the city.
May, Natasha, and Daisy would be going with a team to meet the Koenigs and extract Raina while Coulson went with everyone else to the city.
"Wait, I'm not going to the city?" Daisy asked.
"I want you to head up Raina's interrogation. I think she'll respond to you." Coulson told her.
"I'll spread the word." Daisy nodded and walked off.
"You don't want her anywhere near that city do you." May approached her ex-husband.
"Neither of you." He told her.
"We don't know that I have the gene. No ones tested me." May said.
"We don't need to, I don't have it and Daisy had to get it from somewhere." Coulson told her. "Just keep away, both of you."
May sighed but agreed. She would be taking the bus to Canada to get Raina and Coulson would be going to San Juan on the quinjet.
Daisy went to grab Raina while everyone else took down the Hydra agents surrounding the perimeter. They hadn't made it 10 feet out of the door when agent 33 who was stuck impersonating May after she was electrocuted in the face with the nano mask on attacked.
"Go for the stairs!" Daisy yelled at Koenig and Raina as she fought back.
They ran while Daisy handled 33, who proved to be difficult until Hunter showed up.
"What the hell is that?!" He exclaimed when he saw the burned face.
"My mom's evil twin, formerly known as agent 33." Daisy answered.
"And I thought the Koenigs were creepy." Hunter still stared.
"Tell Coulson we're on our way." Daisy wiped blood from her nose and mouth.
They went looking for May to regroup but couldn't find her. Hunter left Daisy and Raina, who found out Hydra had the obelisk and tried to catch their attention to make a run for it. Apparently she could hold the obelisk without being killed and that meant Hydra didn't want to kill her, they needed her.
"What the hell happened to you?" Natasha tilted Daisy's face to get a better look when they all met up.
"Agent 33." Daisy said.
"Lovely." May retorted, examining her daughter as well. "Anything broken?"
"I'm good." Daisy said when Natasha let go.
They boarded the plane and took off for San Juan to meet up with everyone else. Daisy made tea for her and Raina.
"My very own SHIELD ID. We match." She showed her badge to Daisy. "I'm sorry I tried to run. I just got swept up in the moment."
"You're lucky my dad's the forgiving type." Daisy said.
"Yes I need to hear that story one day, how Coulson and May and you-" Raina said.
"That's personal." Daisy said.
"I understand. I actually feel very lucky we found each other." Raina told her. "Be honest, haven't you ever felt lost?"
"Of course, but I found my family." Daisy said, confused.
"Yes, but haven't you felt like something inside you is missing?" Raina asked. "Like you were part of something bigger? Like you're special?"
"When you say special, what you really mean is alien right?"
"Is that what you believe? We're human Daisy, we just have the potential to be more. But the diviner, now that is most definitely alien."
"Where do you get this stuff?"
"My grandmother came from a long line of special people who believed in a story about the blue angels that fell from the heavens. The ancients called them the Kree."
"And what did the Kree want?"
"Change. That's why they left the diviner, as a guide to the temple. So the worthy would inherit the earth."
That caught Daisy's attention.
"And do you know where this temple is?"
"That's what the diviner shows you. Only the worthy are allowed inside to witness it's true power."
"And what happens to the people who aren't worthy?" This conversation was making Daisy nervous.
"Let's just say I've hope they've said their goodbyes." Raina smiled slightly.
Daisy rushed from her seat and found her mother.
"Mom!" She grasped May by the arms.
"What's going on? What is it?" May grabbed her daughter.
"We can't let them go down there!" Daisy rushed to the holotable.
"Calm down." May followed her. "Don't let Raina get in your head."
"She's not lying." Daisy said. "She said the diviner would lead the worthy to the temple. You see this?"
She pointed at a symbol on the blueprint of the city. "It's the same symbol I saw. It's got to be the temple!"
"You're sure?" May asked.
"Trust me it's seared into my brain." Daisy tried to communicate with her father, but got no signal. "Dammit!"
She slammed her hand on the table.
"We're getting some kind of interference." May pointed out.
A voice came on their system and told them not to engage their defenses or they would be shot out of the sky.
"Whitehall." May was pissed. Hydra found them and surrounded them with jets.
Whitehall announced that he wanted Raina and would be sending someone aboard to get her.
"Destiny calls." Raina said from a corner.
And to their horror, Ward came on board. He had turned Hydra on to Raina's tracker which ran on a SHIELD frequency, enabling them to find the bus even in cloaked mode.
"We give up Raina and they have another advantage over us." Daisy said.
"I don't care. I'm not having you in danger, I'm not risking the lives of everyone on this plane for her." May told her daughter.
Everyone on board surrounded him with guns aimed at him.
"Let's go." He said to Raina.
She happily went with him and then he turned to Daisy.
"You too." He simply said.
May and Natasha both felt their tempers boil.
"What?" Daisy was confused.
"I'm taking you to find what makes you complete, what makes you special. You'll thank me later." He said. "You're coming with us."
"The hell she is." Natasha moved closer to him.
"You are not taking my daughter." May spat.
"She's not going anywhere." Natasha said.
"I see the guard dog is back." Ward smarted. "She comes or the deal's off."
"Shut up." May said.
"Mom..." Daisy started. "If I don't go with him he's going to blow the plane to pieces."
"They're Hydra. They'll do it anyway." Tripp chimed in.
"You can't trust him." May said.
"Yes you can." Ward smirked. "Daisy look at me."
"Don't talk to her." May warned him.
By this point Daisy had lowered her gun so Natasha had stepped in front of her.
"Daisy I give you my word, come with me and we won't fire a single shot. Everyone gets out alive." Ward told Daisy.
"Daisy, you can't." May said.
"There's no other way." Daisy shook her head with tears in her eyes.
May felt sick. Her daughter was being abducted right in front of her and she couldn't do a damn thing about it.
"Whatever happens I can handle myself." She said.
She nudged past Natasha and touched her arm, nodding. Then she handed Ward her gun with an angry expression on her face.
"Oh Daisy don't forget your tablet." Raina said. "You know, the one with the map of the city on it."
Daisy rolled her eyes but went and got it. Then she went up the stairs to the jet Ward came in on.
As soon as the jets flew away May ordered Tripp to find some cloud cover. There was no way they weren't coming back. May had a plan and ordered everyone to buckle in.
She dropped them twenty thousand feet, jettisoned some store pods, and cloaked. This led Hydra to believe they had shot down the plane.
They made it to San Juan in one piece.
"You made the right call." Coulson said to May as they reloaded weapons.
"The right call would have been to put two of these in Ward's head." May held up a bullet.
"The Hydra would have blown the plane out of the Skye, and my whole family would be dead." Coulson smiled.
May smiled back weakly.
"You've turned her into a capable agent, if she has a chance to turn the tables she will." Coulson assured her.
They were going to return to the city to place bombs. The city had killed Mack, or at least they thought it did, so they would be wearing hazmat suits and placing the mechanical bombs and running like hell since the city also shut down any electronics.
To add on to the pile, Hydra was there. They were in a theatre that was almost directly over the temple. They would be drilling down to it.
May, Coulson, Natasha, Hunter, and Bobbi would be trying to put a stop to them while the others planted the bombs and tried to recover Mack's body.
"Nat, you find Daisy, we'll stop Hydra." Coulson told Natasha.
The woman nodded and went in search. The rest spread out. Coulson managed to take out Whitehall. Natasha found Daisy tied up in a kitchen with Ward. She easily took out the agent guarding them.
"What happened here?" She asked as she untied Daisy.
"Just get me out so I can help." Daisy said.
"Me too." Ward suggested.
"You're kidding right?" Natasha said darkly. "You're lucky I don't kill you."
"For what? I'm just trying to help."
"Go to hell." Daisy said as she and Natasha walked out.
"We can't let the obelisk go down into that city. That's what Hydra wants so whatever it is it can't be good." She told Natasha.
"So next goal is to get it away from them." Natasha agreed.
They made it down to the basement but it was empty and the obelisk was gone.
"Oh god." Daisy realized Raina had taken it down.
She went to climb into the harness.
"No!" Natasha pulled her back.
"You can't go down there, we have people down there. Raina can't activate whatever hell it will unleash." Daisy said. Then she grabbed Natasha's hand. "I'll be okay. Just go find my parents, tell them what's happening."
Natasha took a deep breath and nodded.
"Please, just be careful. Get the obelisk and get out." Natasha squeezed her hand and ran to find May and Coulson.
Natasha never found them, they ended up going to the basement where Coulson tried to go in.
"No! It's not safe for you." May stopped him.
"I'm going to get our daughter. Go tell the others that Daisy and I are down there." Coulson stated.
"If I have this alien DNA I'm going, the city won't harm me." May said, grabbing the harness.
Coulson sounded like he was about to argue but he knew May could do it, so he just kissed her forehead.
"Bring her back to us." He said. She smiled at him before he lowered her down and took out his phone to tell the others.
Coulson managed to get ahold of them and tell Tripp that Raina escaped into the tunnels and Skye and May went in after her. He had Bobbi and Hunter clear the whole place in case they didn't make it out before the bombs went off.
Before long, the very earth shook.
"Daisy! Melinda!" Coulson shouted into the hole.
He fell to his knees, everything he loved was in the tunnels being crushed. The shaking seemed to last for hours.
"Where are they?" Natasha yelled as she came in after it was over.
"Still down there." Coulson shakily said as he stared into the hole.
The rest of the team arrived, and saw what was happening. And by some miracle. There was a tug on the line.
Natasha rushed to bring it back up. She prayed it was May and Daisy.
The pulley seemed to take forever but there they were, Skye clinging to her mother, strapped into the harness, May pressing her daughter into her chest.
Not even hesitating a second, Coulson pulled them off and away from the hole to hell. They backed into a corner.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Both May and Coulson said in unison.
"It had to be stopped!" Skye said.
"Don't ever do that to me again." May cupped Daisy's cheek.
Natasha watched, smiling through tears. She was elated Daisy and May were okay.
The family sank to the floor together as the parents held their daughter between them.
May smiled at Coulson, and when he pressed his forehead to hers she smiled and enjoyed the closeness of them all.
The rest of the team left to give them some privacy. When they finally emerged from the basement, Natasha pulled Daisy to her.
"You're okay." She said more to herself than Daisy, burrowing her face in the other woman's hair.
"I'm okay." Daisy confirmed. "I'm glad you are too."
They headed back to the bus, May holding Daisy by the shoulders and Natasha having her by the waist. She was still very shaken up at being in the center of an earthquake.
Suddenly, Hydra appeared.
"Give us the girl, no one gets hurt." One agent said with a gun aimed at them.
Natasha and May moved in front of Daisy and pulled out guns, as did everyone else.
"Let's all keep our heads." Said an unpleasant voice.
Ward stepped directly between both sides.
"Daisy," he turned to her, "go with them. They just want to run a few tests. Is it worth everyone's lives?"
"Last time she went with you you said you wouldn't hurt anyone, and you tried to blow us out of the sky." Natasha stated.
"That wasn't my call, it was Whitehall." Ward said.
"Convenient that the person you blame is dead." May rolled her eyes.
"Enough!" The Hydra agent stepped forward.
At that, Ward pulled out a gun and aimed it at him, circling around to stand in front of Daisy, leaving everyone confused.
"Easy." He said.
"Grab her and let's go." The Hydra agent commanded.
"Daisy..." Ward warned.
Another Hydra agent fired a shot and that's when all hell broke loose. Everyone took cover and a firefight ensued.
In the end, SHIELD was left standing with a few wounds. Ward emerged from his hiding place and Daisy stared, dumbfounded.
The man raised his hands and dropped his gun, then realized everyone was looking at his stomach. When he looked he had a graze wound he hadn't even noticed.
Then May iced him and he dropped, snapping everyone out of it.
"What the hell." Daisy said.
They cuffed him tightly and threw him in the cage for the ride home. Once there, he was zip tied down to a bed so Simmons could stitch him up and let him heal. Once he was cleared he would be going back to his cell.
Daisy had to be placed in quarantine just in case, until they figured out what the mist that struck her had done.
Simmons remained in San Juan, searching for Raina's body and assessing the structural integrity of the tunnels before she blew it to flood the city. Mack had returned to normal after being possessed by the city.
Daisy blamed herself, saying if she hadn't gone down there and her mother hadn't come after her they could have blown the city. She screamed for all she was worth at her father, while Natasha and May watched from farther away. Coulson had asked to talk to her one on one, seeing what a mess she was.
May looked over at Natasha and saw her staring, glossy eyed and emotional.
"She's strong, she's going to be okay." May rested a hand on Natasha's arm.
"I know." Natasha gulped. "I just hate seeing her like this."
May sighed. It was obvious how Daisy and Natasha felt about each other, at least to her. They, of course, couldn't see it yet but she would keep her observations to herself.
"Has anyone questioned Ward yet?" Natasha asked.
"He's still sedated. One problem at a time." May grumbled.
Natasha nodded. Coulson pounded his fist on the glass and Daisy sat down, tears in her eyes.
Later that day, Simmons called to say they found Raina and she was alive. Or rather, she had found them. She was covered in thorns and killed two agents before running. Simmons shot her and managed to get tissue samples and said she would be coming home to study them.
As much as May didn't want to leave her daughter, she trusted Natasha to look after her while she went off on a mission to hand Bakshi over to the government and to vacate Ward's cell when he woke up. That left Daisy with what felt like no one.
"Where's my parents?" She asked when Natasha approached.
"Gone to hand off Bakshi. They'll be back soon." Natasha answered.
Daisy nodded.
"Are you okay?" Natasha sensed something was off.
"I'm fine. I just want my mom." Daisy admitted.
"I'll tell her to come see you as soon as she gets back." Natasha assured her.
Once Simmons returned she was able to look more into Raina's DNA. It had changed completely. Simmons thought it was an alien infection that could cause an epidemic.
After hearing Simmons' observations, May felt the need to visit her daughter.
"Hey," she said approaching the quarantine room, "feeling like you've been in that glass box your whole life? You doing okay?"
"I'm fine, I just feel isolated and exposed at the same time. I think I just need a hug or a drink." Daisy said.
"It's temporary, I promise when you get out I'll hug you as long as you want." May smiled.
"I just hate seeing everyone like this. Tense. And I've never seen dad like this."
"I've rarely seen him like this myself."
Daisy moved and May saw a spot of blood on the rail of her bed.
"Are you bleeding?" May asked, concerned.
Before Daisy could answer, Simmons walked in and said her DNA results were running and she could be out as soon as they knew nothing was wrong with her.
"Is something wrong?" She looked at the worried May and anxious Daisy, who then showed her hand, bloodied and holding glass.
"What the hell happened?" May demanded.
"Fitz..." Daisy started to say.
"Fitz is clumsy. I was in there wearing one of those ridiculous hazmat suits and knocked over a lamp. I was just coming to clean it up." Said Fitz as he walked in.
"But," he held up a tablet, "I was anxious to double check the results. She's clear, nothing's changed."
Simmons took the tablet and smiled, happy.
May immediately opened the door and pulled her daughter to her, Daisy hugged her, careful with her injured hand.
"Let's go get you cleaned up and tell your father. He could use the good news." May kissed the side of her head before leading her away.
