Julieta leaves for ONE night and what happens?
It all started when Augustin and Julieta went to visit Augustíns parents, who lived in the next village. Of course they were in the middle of the mountains so 'the next village' was some kilometres away. Normally they'd take at least their daughters with them, but what with all the changes and the recent stress they thought it wasn't a good idea to bring all three girls. So they brought Isa so she could show her abuelos* her new found powers.
"Don't worry, we won't take offence." Luisa said, dryly.
Julieta - well used to her middle daughter humour - smiled and kissed her cheek.
"Have a good time!" Mirabel beamed, hugging her Papá goodbye. "Tell abuela y abuelo* we love them!"
And off Julieta and Augustín went. This part was fine, what wasn't fine was that that meant someone else had to cook, and the person nominated was Pepa. She could cook but wasn't as experienced as Julieta was and quickly roped Felix in to help her.
Between the two of them they managed to create a cena* and presented it to the family with pride.
Abuela looked at the food critically and asked. "¿Está destinado a ser negro?*"
"It's crispy." Felix said cheerfully, squeezing his wife's arm reassuringly as he noticed a spark of lightning appear above her head. "Adds flavour."
Pepa laughed, as did Antonio.
The family managed to eat the dinner - it was actually alright flavour-wise, just a bit burnt - and they spent a bit of time together having a 'family game night' before retiring to bed for the night.

Not even a few hours later Mirabel heard the sound of someone being sick. She grinned and covered her head with her pillow. Who's stupid idea was it to build the nursery right next to the bathroom?
She did her best to block out the sound [as you would] and managed it until she heard a bang which made her jump. Now concerned she got out of bed and padded along to the bathroom, hoping it wasn't Antonio because the youngest Madrigal had never been sick before and Mirabel didn't know how he would handle it. Actually none of them had really been sick before, thankfully Mamá had left them some of her food.
Opening her door as quietly as she could Mirabel gasped softly as she saw her older sister sitting in front of the bathroom door, shaking and moaning softly.
"Luisa?" Mirabel whispered.
Her older sister moaned and rocked herself slightly.
Mirabel turned in the direction of Dolores's door and hissed. "Dolores Madrigal if you can hear me - which I'm guessing you can - then for dioses sake* GET OUT HERE!"
There was a pause and then Dolores's door opened. "Tengo a Antonio aquí*." She explained, voice so quiet Mirabel struggled to hear. "There appears to be a bug going around. Looks like Mamás food wasn't cooked properly." The older girl sighed and leaned against the door. "Camilo is with her and Papá, hark why Antonio's with me. Abuela doesn't want to see anyone and doesn't want to move. You're going to have to look after Luisa. Lo siento. Simplemente no hay suficientes de nosotros.*"
"¡Esperar! ¿Qué pasa con la comida de las madres?*"
Dolores sighed. "Bruno's gone to get it, but apparently it needs to be heated to make sure it doesn't make us worse."
Mirabel was about to argue further when Antonio whined that he'd just been sick.
Dolores looked up to the heavens before assuring her youngest brother she was coming and disappearing.
Mirabel made a 'Are you kidding me face' and face-palmed. This WOULD happen while her mama wasn't here...
She heard mumbling and turned to see Bruno coming up the stairs holding a tray with two bowls of soup on it. He made eye contact with her and froze in his tracks.
"Is she alright?" He murmured, looking at Luisa in sympathy.
Mirabel shook her head. "Can she have some of the soup?"
Bruno handed Mirabel a bowl before heading to Dolores's room.
Mirabel plastered a smile on her face and offered the bowl to Luisa. She looked at it like it was poison and scrunched her nose up.
"It's Mamás food." Mirabel assured her. "It's fine."
Luisa looked critically at the food and lifted a spoonful into the air. Mirabel sighed - she knew Luisa would eat it eventually - and turned her head as she heard Bruno come out of Dolores's room. "He'll be fine." Her uncle assured her softly. "How are you feeling?"
Mirabel was temporarily confused before realising he was addressing Luisa, not herself.
Her older sister nodded and gently put the bowl down. "I'm good." She said, coughing a little. "A good nights rest and I'll be fine." She heaved herself to her feet then seemed to have a dizzy spell and had to grab the wall for support.
Alarmed Mirabel caught her sisters arm and tried to help steady her a bit. The phsyical contact seemed the jerk Luisa into life and she stood up straight and took her full weight back. "¡Míralo Mirabel! Confía en mí, no quieres que caiga sobre ti.*" She stretched - shoulders popping a bit - and yawned. "Alright, night. See you in the morning." And with that Luisa stumbled off to bed.
Mirabel watched her go - still slightly concerned - but had her attention caught by Dolores trying to convince Antonio to return to his own bed. After a whispered argument she heard Dolores sigh in frustration and say. "¡Multa! Pero solo por UNA noche, ¿de acuerdo*?"
Mirabel heard Antonio cheer and Dolores shush him.
Laughing quietly to herself Mirabel waved goodnight to her Tío Bruno, who returned it with a soft smile and headed to bed herself.
Well, no one could ever say the house was boring.
