Vlad King's Green Bean
Chapter forty-three: Joint training event shenanigans, part three
The party at the 1-A dorm building was still ongoing as the first year hero course students of UA, 1-A and 1-B alike, were able to just unwind and enjoy the chance to just be normal teenagers. The students of Class 1-A were especially welcoming of this period of unwinding, given how much they had toiled away under the unforgiving rule of their dictator of a homeroom, Shouta Aizawa aka Eraserhead. What was especially surprising, at least to Izuku of Class 1-B, was the fact that it had been Aizawa himself who essentially called for this party, even (technically) making it an order to his students.
The first order that they were actually happy to follow.
Over the course of the party, many things happened. First off, Kirishima and Kinoko actually became an official couple as per the agreement of a bet made between 1-A and 1-B concerning which class would overall win the joint training event they fought against each other in earlier that morning; Class 1-B won the first three rounds in a row, sealing the deal for their overall victory. This denied Bakugo the chance to start a relationship with the girl he had a crush on, Izuku's classmate Pony. However, Pony after she had confirmed that Bakugo wasn't a pervert (for some odd reason Pony thought that Bakugo did the stuff the late Mineta had done) became more open to the idea of being romantically involved with the explosive teen.
The conversation that Izuku and his friend group had eventually took a somber tone when the subject of Class 1-A's late classmate Asui was brought up, given that romance was the talk of the hour and Asui had been the girl that Tokoyami fell in love with. However, Tokoyami did recount some stories he had about Asui; Uraraka also recounted some stories she had on the late frog girl, given that Asui had been Uraraka's closest friend at UA prior to the heartbreaking horror that was the attack on the USJ by the first League of Villains.
After Uraraka had recounted a story Asui had told her and the other 1-A girls about one time when Asui's little sister was put into time out for taking candy that belonged to Asui's little brother, the group of friends looked over when they heard some excited cheering. As a result, they saw that Jurota and Bondo from Izuku's class laying at a table in defeat while Eri, who was brought along, pumped her fists up into the air in victory. "Dudes!" Togaru exclaimed, "Eri just beat Jurota and Bondo in a cupcake eating contest! The little girl was able to wolf down two dozen of the cupcakes while Jurota got fifteen and Bondo barely got to ten!"
"Eri ate two dozen cupcakes?" Izuku said questioningly, surprised by the formerly quirked girl's appetite.
"It's a party in the school UA!" Mina called out, as if singing a parody of a certain song from quite some time ago.
Izuku relaxed from his concerned confusion and smiled; Mina did have a point on how this was a party, and at least things didn't get too wild. Looking all around, Izuku couldn't help but be content; this is the kind of camaraderie that he wanted to have with everyone in his year of the hero course, his classmates in 1-B as well as their peers in 1-A alike. Oh, how the green haired boy so wished that things could have been like this a hell of a lot sooner, how he could have known this sense of happiness with friends a hell of a lot sooner.
...Still, at least he got it now. Izuku now had a good group of friends, as well as many peers who respected him. Even Bakugo, who had once been a friend but turned and stayed as a bully for the longest time, was simmering back down and being more agreeable; Izuku wasn't sure if he and Bakugo could officially go back to how they had once been just yet, but he felt that the ground work had been laid there. He even found people who cared not if someone was quirkless; 1-B when they took over caring for Eri who was rendered quirkless cared only about making sure she got to experience all the treats and fun times kids her age are entitled to, and even Kota had only expressed concern over Eri never having heard of chicken nuggets prior to him telling her about them.
A shame Kota, as well as the Pussycats who now all taught at UA, weren't able to come to the party. Izuku bet that Kota would of had as much of a blast as Eri was having, especialy with-
*HURL*
Izuku was snapped out of his thoughts when he and his friends heard someone throw up; looking over, they saw that it was Jurota who luckily made it to the sink in the kitchen area and threw up into that. "Dudes, someone just threw up!" Kaminari exclaimed, "Now it's a REAL party!"
"Throwing up helps to make a party into a real party?" Eri spoke up, sounding surprised by that revelation, "I wanna throw up too!"
Hearing what Eri cried out just now made Izuku and all of his friends burst out laughing. It was funny because Eri, bless her heart, was still a young child who didn't know better due to her limited knowledge of how the world at large worked. Eri clearly wanted to help make the party as fun for everyone as possible, but Izuku went over and convinced her that her throwing up would not be a good thing, especially since it meant that he or someone else in 1-B would have to take Eri back to the dorm so she could be cleaned up and put to bed.
Eri, not wanting to leave the party just yet, enthusiastically agreed to not throw up, being very much like how kids her age would act. Realizing that made Izuku feel more relieved; Eri by acting how kids her age are usually expected to act was overcoming more and more of her trauma. This would be something that Izuku wanted to bring up with Sekijiro as soon as possible; the green haired boy had no doubt that the Blood Hero would be pleased to hear that Eri was showing more and more signs of overcoming her past trauma.
...Aizawa, who essentially gave Eri up to Sekijiro after the business with the Shie Hassaikai was resolved, probably wouldn't care less. Izuku had a rather low opinion of the underground hero to begin with, but it not only took yet another nosedive (something that Izuku at this point didn't think was possible), but said opinion reached lows that the green haired boy didn't even think was possible, when Izuku remembered what Bakugo had said concerning why Aizawa had essentially given up on Eri and hoisted her off onto the laps of Sekijiro and Class 1-B.
Oh yeah, you guys took over looking after the girl after Ass-awa muttered something about not wanting to be stuck with a little girl Deku.
Izuku remembered that 'Deku' was the name Bakugo gave him as an insulting moniker over how Izuku was quirkless. Aizawa gave Eri up after she had been rendered permanently quirkless due to getting hit with the last ever Quirk Destroying bullet. From that, Izuku had deduced that Aizawa wanted nothing more to do with Eri due to how she was now a quirkless child. The underground hero, by that act and with those points made apparent, had proven himself to be just as bad as the teachers that Izuku had dealt with all his life, had proven that he doesn't care about the quirkless.
A small wisp of black shadowy energy, not that Izuku or anyone else saw it, flared up from the top of Izuku's right hand as he thought about how... enraging... Aizawa was being, before said wisp faded away.
If it wasn't for how Aizawa was the one to call for the party, then Izuku would have decided there and then that there was no hope of Aizawa turning back from the pit of revile that he was digging himself into. But then Izuku thought that, as this was Aizawa that was the subject of the hour being discussed here, it shouldn't come off as a surprise if the underground hero somehow, somehow, found a way to sink even lower. But Izuku couldn't for the life of him even think of one way that Aizawa could sink even lower than he had already done at this point.
It was as Izuku mulled that thought over when the doors leading into the 1-A dorm building were thrown open, and in walked a group of four police officers, followed by two official looking men in business suits. The two official looking men in business suits were a handsome mid-thirties man, lean yet healthy of build, with hair the same style as Sen's but longer and a lighter shade, while the other was a head shorter than his companion, notably well-fed, and looked to be early sixties at a minimum. He also looked like a kindly grandpa, but he as well as his younger companion had apologetic looks to their faces.
Both of the official looking business men took out flip wallets and flipped them open, revealing badges similar to police badges except the badges the two official looking business men had said 'HPSC' in big bold blue capital letters across the upper halves of the badges. "We're with the Hero Public Safety Commission, and we're here on official business," the younger official looking man said, "Which one of you is Izuku Midoriya?"
Holding up a hand, Izuku said, "I'm Izuku Midoriya. Why do you ask?"
"Young man," the older official looking man said, his tone and expression clearly sincerely apologetic, "We need to bring you in for questioning."
"Bring Midoriya in for questioning?" Juzo repeated, "What the hell's going on?"
The older official looking man let out a troubled sigh. "Evidence has been submitted to the Hero Public Safety Commission strongly suggesting that Izuku Midoriya is the individual that the staff of UA High School has dubbed as the 'UA Traitor', a person who is believed to be working as a spy within UA on behalf of the League of Villains."
"WHAT?!" literally every first year hero course student exclaimed in unison all at once.
"We need to bring Izuku Midoriya in for questioning," said the younger official looking man, "He's got a few things that he needs to answer for us." Seeing that this was literally a matter of the law, Izuku saw that he had no choice but to go along. He waved his classmates and yearmates goodbye, promising that he'll be back because it's ridiculous that he'd be accused of being the 'UA Traitor'. To their credit, the two official looking men were sincerely apologetic for having to do this, and even the four cops were being cordial and respectful towards Izuku; those four officers were showing the opposite of police brutality in spades.
After being led outside of the 1-A dorm building, Izuku saw that a few police cars plus a sleek looking business car were parked there. One of the police officers placed a pair of quirk suppressing cuffs on Izuku, again being apologetic about it. "Standard procedure," the officer in question explained, "Given that you're a suspect in a case and you have a quirk." Izuku was then loaded into the back of one of the police cars. The two official looking men got into the sleek car after the cops got into the police cars two per car; the officer who put the cuffs on Izuku was one of the cops in the car with Izuku.
The green haired boy still couldn't believe what was going on. He also could feel One For All still deep within him but it was being fully suppressed; the power of quirk suppressing technology at its finest. Once everyone was in the cars, they proceeded to drive away from the dorms to leave campus. Turning his head, Izuku saw it that everyone who was at the party had run out to see him and the rest of the people in the cars off; it absolutely broke Izuku's heart completely when he saw Eri cry into Yosetsu's stomach as she hugged him.
As the cars pulled out of UA's campus, Izuku also saw a group of UA staff looking on from the front entry gate, although Nezu was noticeably absent. Izuku saw some of them, such as Sekijiro, Ryo, and especially Toshinori look on in heartbroken disbelief as the green haired boy was taken away for questioning. Nemuri was crying as she was held by, surprisingly enough, Higari. Hizashi looked on in disbelief, as well as strong signs of bitter betrayal in his expression. It was clear that the loud pro hero had completely lost all faith in Izuku, despite how nothing had even been proven yet.
However, when Izuku saw Aizawa, he saw that the underground hero, not that anyone else saw him, was smirking deviously at Izuku while giving a slow and clearly sarcastic waive goodbye. Izuku's eyes widened in realization; Aizawa was bound to have something to do with this, if not be behind the lot of it entirely. Izuku even saw Aizawa mouth something at him right before the police car carrying Izuku disappeared around a corner, denying Izuku any more opportunity to see UA. But although the green haired boy couldn't hear Aizawa (chances are neither could anyone with Aizawa if he just mouthed the words), he could tell what it was all too well that Aizawa had mouthed at him before he disappeared around the corner.
I win.
Roughly an hour later, Izuku found himself in a police interrogation room, sitting alone in a metal chair at a metal table. His hands, still with the quirk suppressing cuffs on, were further cuffed to the table. Izuku was scared, worried what it was that made the HPSC think that he was this 'UA Traitor' that the staff of UA thought was in the midst of the populace of Japan's top heroics academy. Izuku also wanted to know where this whole 'UA Traitor' idea had come from in the first place, and was worried what it could mean for the future of the heroics academy Izuku had always wanted to go to all his life.
Then, as if to relieve Izuku if only to show that time was still progressing forward, the door into the room he was in opened. The same police officer who had put the quirk suppressing cuffs on him came in, followed by a face that was familiar to Izuku thanks to All Might; Detective Naomasa. "I hope you'll understand when I ask that you don't even bother trying to lie," the police officer said to Izuku, "Detective Naomasa here has a Lie Detecting quirk that lets him know if the person he's asking any questions to is lying to him. He's regularly brought in by order of the HPSC when questioning suspects in particularly important cases."
Naomasa sat down in the chair opposite of Izuku, gave a sigh that made it clear that he thought that this was a complete and total waste of time due to not believing that Izuku was guilty of anything. "Alright, recorder on," Naomasa said, "Izuku Midoriya, in accordance to the law, you must be informed of the fact that this conversation will be recorded for legal reasons. You must also be officially informed that I will be using my quirk, Lie Detector, during the whole of the investigation in order to confirm if whatever you tell me is true or not. Do you have that down?"
Izuku nodded once, saying, "Yes."
"Good," Naomasa replied, "Now then, let's get the big one out of the way. Are you the individual that the staff of UA High School has dubbed as the 'UA Traitor', yes or no?"
"No," Izuku replied.
Naomasa nodded in agreement, writing it down that Izuku had told the truth. "Did you ever, to your knowledge, do anything to betray anyone who isn't a villain or criminal to someone who is a villain or criminal, yes or no?"
"No," Izuku said, gently shaking his head.
Naomasa noted that Izuku told the truth again. "Do you have any idea at all who might be the individual that the staff of UA High School as dubbed as the 'UA Traitor', yes or no?"
Izuku gently shook his head. "No."
Another truth was added to Izuku's tally by Naomasa. The good detective then reached into the briefcase he brought with him, pulled a vanilla folder out, opened it, and pulled out a printed out photo that, to Izuku's surprise, was a picture taken of a page from the composition notebook he was working on right now, filling it up with his analysis on various pro heroes' quirks. Specifically, it was the page on Majestic. "This photo is the evidence submitted to the HPSC that gave them reason to believe that you are the UA Traitor, along with the claim that you admitted to have done similar analysis on many individuals who are either staff or students at UA."
Seeing the photo, Izuku said, "Yeah, that's one of my composition notebooks I fill with analysis I do on the quirks of various people." Seeing something in the photo that seemed off to him, Izuku asked, "How come this doesn't show the whole page?"
Naomasa arched a wry eyebrow. "...The whole page?" Naomasa sounded like he was going to get proof that Izuku really is innocent, and that made the good detective happy although he had to conceal his amusement.
Izuku nodded in confirmation. "Yeah, it doesn't show the part where I list ideas on how Majestic can counter the weaknesses in his quirk that I was able to pick up on." At Naomasa's request, Izuku went into detail on what all he does when he writes down any analysis he does on a quirk. Izuku was also asked to explain why he analyzed quirks, and he said that it's been a hobby of his for as long as he could remember. Not once did Naomasa ever pick up a lie from Izuku. After a while and many questions having been asked and answered, Naomasa got up from his seat, yawned and stretched.
"Recorder off," Naomasa said, then after he, Izuku, and the cop still in the room heard a signaling beep, the good detective let out a breath. "Hoo boy, that was a pain and a half in the fanny," Naomasa remarked. Turning to look at Izuku, Naomasa told him, "Yeah, I knew from the start ever since I was told that you were brought in for questioning that you couldn't of been guilty of being the UA Traitor. Toshi trusts you, and that's good enough for me. We just had to do all of that procedure stuff because the law says it's a requirement. Sorry about the process, by the way."
"So..." Izuku said, "...I'm not in trouble or arrested?"
Naomasa let out an amused bark of a laugh. "No, of course you aren't in trouble, Midoriya."
"And you were never arrested," the cop in the room said, similarly as amused as Naomasa and clearly being on the same page as the good detective, "You were just brought in for questioning is all."
Naomasa popped his neck a bit before checking the time on his phone. "Well holy geez, time sure did fly. It's now half past five in the morning."
"I've been up for almost twenty-four hours at this point?" Izuku nearly exclaimed.
Arching a wry eyebrow at the green haired boy, Naomasa said, "Yeah, you probably ought to get some rest soon. Although I wouldn't deny you if you asked for some coffee. I could actually go for a cup myself." Since Izuku had been officially cleared of all suspicion by the HPSC approved investigation, the cuffs binding him to the table were unlocked, and then the quirk suppressing cuffs were removed from him as well. Izuku couldn't help but smile as he felt the reassuring warmth of One For All begin to flow through him once more.
That warmth, plus the excitement from what all had happened, jazzed Izuku up to the point he felt he didn't need to sleep. The coffee Naomasa got him (with Hazelnut flavored creamer, Izuku's favorite) also helped perk him up some more. After Izuku got some coffee into him, he was escorted back to UA by Naomasa, who also drove the two official looking men from the HPSC over to UA as well as they said they wanted to speak to Nezu about something. Knowing that he was going back to UA, to the school that was currently his home, made Izuku feel elated, that everything was going to be alright.
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN I'VE BEEN EXPELLED?!"
Later at UA in Nezu's office, Naomasa and the two men from the HPSC stood before Nezu's desk while Izuku stood behind the men, and Nezu himself sat at his desk. Upon arriving, the group was informed by Nezu that he had expelled Izuku from UA. "I'm sorry Midoriya," Nezu said, "But you had been arrested last night. If a UA student gets arrested, it's ground for automatic expulsion from UA."
"Nezu, Mr. Midoriya here was never arrested," the older HPSC official said, "He was only brought in for questioning. He has been officially cleared, both by the police and by the HPSC, of any illegal activity."
Nezu had a hint of a surprised look on his face. "Really?" Nezu pulled out a printed sheet that was a copy of the photo taken of Izuku's analysis on Majestic's quirk. "Because this is pretty convincing evidence for arguing that Midoriya is the UA Traitor."
Seeing what Nezu had, Naomasa said, "Ah yes, the photo of some notes in one of his quirk analysis books. Then you should know he writes detailed analysis on the quirks of various people, pro heroes included."
Nodding once, Nezu said, "Indeed."
"And how he also write down possible weaknesses that the person with the quirk may have," Naomasa went on.
"That's right," Nezu replied with another nod.
"And were you also told how Midoriya wrote down ways that those weaknesses can be countered or otherwise covered?" Naomasa asked.
"I'm sorry he also wrote down what now?" Nezu asked. Naomasa then proceeded to fill the animal principal of UA in on everything, leaving no detail spared. After the good detective had given all relevant information to Nezu, Nezu leaned back in his chair, a hint of concerned trouble in his expression. "Oh dear," Nezu remarked, "Well it would seem that I've got some questions I've got to ask. In the meantime." Picking up some papers that were on his desk, Nezu said, "These here are the expulsions papers I've been filling out to expel Midoriya from UA. Although I've decided to expel him, he's not officially expelled yet, given that I still need to fill out about half or so of these papers before it's official. Also, I didn't put my signature anywhere on any of these papers."
Nezu showed these papers to Naomasa, the men from the HPSC, and Izuku, showing them that they were indeed incomplete and proving that Izuku, technically, wasn't actually expelled from UA yet. The men and Izuku then watched Nezu walk over to a paper shredder and put all of the papers through it, completely destroying the papers by shredding them into confetti. "There we go," Nezu said, a clear hint of chipper cheerfulness in his tone, "That takes care of that business. As such, I hereby rescind my decision to expel you from UA, Midoriya. I'm very sorry for any emotional distress that I may have put you through."
As Izuku let out a relieved breath, thankful that he wasn't being expelled from UA after all, the door leading into Nezu's office opened. "Hey Nezu," Aizawa's gruff voice called out, "You wanted to- What's going on here?" The men and Izuku all turned to see Aizawa, along with several other UA staff members who saw Izuku get taken away last light, enter the office.
"Ah, glad you all could make it," Nezu said, "First off, I should inform you all of the good news that Izuku Midoriya is not being expelled from UA after all because it turns out that he was only brought in for questioning and NOT arrested." Looking directly at Aizawa, the animal principal of UA went on, "Unlike what you told me last night, Aizawa."
"I saw him get taken away by police and some representatives from the HPSC," Aizawa defended dryly, "Can you honestly blame me for coming to so obvious of a conclusion?" Not that anyone else could tell, but Aizawa was steamed as all get out that Izuku wasn't going to be kicked out of UA after all. Still, he couldn't express as such right now, so he had to keep quiet.
"First off," Sekijiro began, "I am relieved to find out that I won't be losing a student after all. Second off, what did you want to tell us about?" Seeing the staff members who were there, Izuku could tell that some of them were beyond relief that Izuku wasn't being expelled, taking it as a sign that he was innocent after all.
"I was going to inform you that I was going to call for putting classes on free period so we could hold a meeting," Nezu began to explain, "Originally we would have gone over Midoriya being the UA Traitor and talk about how we'd help the police and the HPSC get information out of Midoriya to help take down the League of Villains. We also would have gone over the subject that is his collections of notebooks he's filled with analysis on the quirks of various people, and how he's been using it to help the League of Villains by supplying them with info."
Gently shaking his head, Nezu went on, "But since I've received confirmation that Midoriya is NOT the UA Traitor, that he's never offered any help of any kind to the League of Villains, things will have to be changed. Oh and by the way Midoriya, I'm still personally interested in seeing those notebooks of yours. If the photo submitted of the notes you wrote down on Majestic's quirk are any indication, I'll be willing to bet that you and I will get along quite well."
The two men from the HPSC took note of Nezu's confidence he's placing in Izuku. "If you believe that Midoriya's skills in this regard are that good, then maybe he can help with building up some profiles on known members of the League of Villains," the older official said, "But as you're his principal, we'll leave it up to you on if he'll help the HPSC or not."
Nezu gave a single nod of understanding. "Very well. I'll call you when I have an official decision." The men from the HPSC nodded in understanding before taking off. Naomasa took off with them, given that he's their ride. On the way out, Naomasa gave Toshinori a knowing wink and a nod, from which the former Symbol of Peace got it that everything is alright now. The good detective and the two men from the HPSC then left Nezu's office.
After thinking for a moment, Nezu said, "Actually, it'll probably be for the best if we cancel classes for the day. I'll announce it over the intercom, but Aizawa, Kan, you two will have to inform your students directly. You'll also have to tell them that Midoriya is not expelled and has been officially cleared of any suspicion." The two men nodded in understanding to Nezu. The men took off, with Sekijiro giving Izuku a reassuring pat on the back. The two men then broke off from one another after leaving Nezu's office, given that their respective students were all waiting in their homerooms.
Upon arriving in the 1-B homeroom with Izuku, Sekijiro told his students the good news, drawing cheers out of a lot of them and clapping out of the others. Sekijiro also told them that Nezu was going to cancel classes for the day because business had to be handled, drawing a round of applause from all of 1-B. Sekijiro then sent all of his students back to their dorm building until further notice. For Izuku, this saw him collapse right onto his bed in his dorm room right after he closed and locked the door behind him. The energy jolt he got from all of the excitement that had gone on was wearing off since everything was relieved, and Izuku, who at that point had been up for a little over twenty-four hours straight, was just plain exhausted.
Now was the perfect time to get some rest.
END, CHAPTER FORTY-THREE
Author's notes;
This chapter covers the rest of the party at the 1-A dorm, which is interrupted when police and two men from the HPSC come in to bring Izuku in for questioning, shocking everyone as Izuku's taken off for questioning. Luckily for Izuku, Naomasa is the one called in to question him, and the green haired boy is quickly cleared of any ill activity. But Izuku still wants to know where the idea of there being a 'UA Traitor' came from, and if there really IS such a person, then Izuku would like to know who it is that would actually betray UA. But those, however, are questions for later.
