Chapter 2 Magic Works in Mysterious Ways.
Henry wanted to crush his phone in his bare hands. Why wasn't Paige answering? This was matter of life and death for their children. Was she stuck dealing with a charge? Maybe she and her sisters are in the Underworld fighting demons and she doesn't have a signal. Just after his last phone call a swirl of white and blue orbs of light come and go in front of him leaving behind his wife.
"Henry."
"Paige thank god you're home!"
"What's wrong?" Paige asked.
"The kids are missing," Henry answered.
"WHAT!" Paige screamed.
"They were outside playing."
"One of the girls screamed, I ran over and all I saw was the three of them on the ground hands tied and being taken by something invisible," Henry explained. The mortal didn't have a chance to see any expression on his wife's face as she merely grabbed his hand and orbed the two over to the attic at the Halliwell manor.
"Paige, what are you doing here so late?" Piper asked looking up from a notepad in her hand. Phoebe had left her three girls with Coop, while she came over to update the Book of Shadows and help Piper figure out what potion ingredients they needed more of.
"The kids have been taken by something invisible."
"WHAT!" Piper and Phoebe gasped.
"Okay, Paige, you start scrying. Phoebe, you go downstairs and get whatever stunning potions. We have left in the potion cupboard." Piper started dishing out orders.
"What can I do?" Henry interrupted.
"You stay with Paige. I have to talk with our least favourite people." Piper answered, she then left the attic and made her way downstairs into the conservatory.
In the conservatory, she only had to call out for Sandra to come a good three times. The blond-haired and blue-eyed elder appeared before the eldest Charmed One in a swirl of white and blue lights.
"Piper," The elder said.
"Sandra." Piper replied, "Paige's kids were taken by an invincible force. She was helping a charge."
"We know. The twins vanished off our radar shortly after it happened."
"Where was their Whitelighter, he should have stepped in and helped the kids," Piper said. The Charmed One often questioned whether or not the Elders actually were a force of good or if they were just a force of great annoyance.
"Paige's twin girls, I'm afraid their Whitelighter has many other charges," Sandra explained.
"You could have sent any other Whitelighter. And what about Junior, he's just as much a part of this family as his sisters." Piper replied.
"The Council of Elders do not believe Henry Junior fits the requirements of having a Whitelighter amongst other things."
"Believe he's a child in a magical family, of, course, he needs a Whitelighter."
"Paige and her husband were aware of the many risks of bringing a mortal into a family of witches. The Council of Elders believes it is your sister's responsibility to protect the boy."
"And when they die?"
"The responsibility will pass onto his sisters." The Elder answered. Piper had to fight so hard not to blow Sandra up. Piper's powers had advanced to a stage where she could probably kill an Elder with a couple of blasts.
"Any idea what force could have taken them?"
"Your family is well known in the Magical Community…"
"We're very aware of that now can you answer the damn question?"
"Just after the girls went off the radar, we sensed no warlock or demonic energy. It would have to be some other magical being. Perhaps something only children can see." Sandra said. The Charmed One's eyes grew wild as a revelation hit her hard. She didn't waste time saying goodbye to Sandra. She just ran out of the conservatory to the stairs and made her way back to the attic.
Back in the attic, she saw Paige and Henry standing over the table still scrying for their children. Phoebe stood near them with a dozen potions in her hands.
"This should be working the girls' carry our blood." Paige sighed frustrated. She wanted to throw the small scrying crystal at a wall.
"We're not looking for demons, we're looking for trolls," Piper announced earning everyone else's attention.
"Trolls. They're real." Henry frowned.
"Unfortunately yes," Phoebe responded.
"What have we done to get on the trolls' bad side?" Paige asked.
"Not you, Paige. Me, Phoebe, and Prue. A few years ago we saved a little girl and a fairy from a group of trolls." Piper explained.
"Only children can see them," Phoebe said.
"How does this help? If we can't even see the trolls." Henry questioned.
"Prue wrote a spell to make an exception. To the book." Phoebe answered, the three sisters then walked over to the open Book of Shadows. Phoebe was quick to find Prue's entry. Once found the three started to chant in perfect unison.
"In this tween time."
"This darkest hour,"
"We call upon this Sacred Power."
"Command the unseen to be shown."
"In innocence, we search the skies,"
"Enchanted are our newfound eyes.' Phoebe then instructed Paige to orb the three of them over to Paige's back garden. And Paige did so with no hesitation.
"Keep a lookout for trolls." Piper told her two younger sisters. Unfortunately, they found none.
"We'll head back to the manor and see if there are any trolls there," Phoebe said. The youngest Charmed One frustrated moved away from her sisters. She wouldn't fail her children. If one spell didn't work, she would happily try another.
"Lead me back from whence they came,"
"Help me; help me soothe my children's pain," The moment she finished the spell, Paige found herself feeling lightheaded she stumbled a few steps back. Phoebe and Piper moved towards Paige. But before they could get close to her, Paige was engulfed in bright light so bright it blinded the two older Charmed Ones.
When the light finally, faded away all that was left behind was Paige's clothes and jewellery.
"PAIGE!" Phoebe and Piper gasped.
End of chapter 2.
