"Why are we spending the night with Aunt Tori and Uncle Andre?" Chelsea asks as she watches Jade fold Aspen's pajamas and pack them into an overnight bag "Usually if we have to spend the night we go to Grandma and Grandpa's."
"Honestly, I have no idea..." Jade admits "Your dad is being pretty secretive."
Beck had told Jade that he wanted to take her out for a date night, and that he had already arranged for Tori and Andre to babysit. Jade had been surprised to learn that the girls would be spending the night at their friends' house rather than them coming to their's and leaving when the couple returned home. Jade knows that must mean they're going to be out later than Beck would feel comfortable asking his friends to stay up, and she isn't sure what she's in for. But Beck has insisted that the evening is a surprise, and Jade doesn't know much more than that.
"Almost read to go?" Beck asks, popping his head into Aspen's bedroom
"It's not even noon yet." Jade remarks "Don't we have time?"
"No, we should probably have them there by noon."
"Beck Oliver, what on earth are you up to?"
"I told you..." Beck smirks "It's a surprise! Can you be ready to leave to drop them off in ten minutes?"
"I'll try my best." Jade sighs as Beck leaves the room "Chels? Do you know what he's up to?"
"No clue." Chelsea shakes her head
"Do you think I should be scared?"
"No clue." Chelsea repeats, giggling this time
Jade quickly finishes packing for Aspen, already adding to the bag of belongings she had collected for Chelsea. They take Jade's car, her newly purchased white Hyundai Tucson, to drop the girls off with Tori and Andre. Beck offers to drive home and Jade obliges, but is shocked when he starts driving in the opposite direction of their house.
"What are you doing?" She asks him
"Surprising you." He grins, hooking his phone up to use the GPS feature "Wanna take a little trip?"
"Take a trip where?"
"New York."
"New York?" Jade repeats "Beck, I'm not dressed for-"
"Relax..." He chuckles, reaching over and resting a hand on her knee while he drives "There are overnight bags for both of us in the back. Don't look so scared, I had Tori pack yours for you last night while we were at dinner with the girls. You have everything you need for dinner and a show tonight...with Cat and Robbie."
"Are you being serious?"
"Dead serious." He tells her "Surprise."
"Thank you..." Jade grins, leaning over to kiss his cheek "This is going to be so much fun."
The drive from Hartford to New York City takes about two hours, and thankfully they're able to avoid traffic up until the very end. Jade is thankful that Beck is driving, because she definitely would not have the patience to put up with all of the reckless drivers in the city who don't seem to care about the other vehicles around them. Beck navigates it all with ease though, getting them to their hotel safely with plenty of time to get ready for dinner.
Sure enough, Jade's overnight bag has everything she needs. She shoots a quick 'thank you' text to Tori, because she knows there's no way her boyfriend would have been able to correctly pack it himself.
"So you had Tori in on this whole thing too, huh?" Jade says to Beck as she begins doing her hair "That explains why she insisted I come with her to get her nails done a few nights ago."
"She's known for a few weeks now." Beck chuckles "And Cat was more than willing to jump at a chance to spend time with you."
"Is it selfish of me to want her to quit her job and move to Connecticut?" Jade asks him "I wish I got to see her more."
"I'm sure she'd like to see you more too." Beck nods, fidgeting with his tie "Although she might make the arguement that we should quit our jobs and move to the city."
"Not with two young kids." Jade shakes her head "Hey, are you okay? You're acting like you've never tied a tie before."
"I'm fine." He assures her "I'm just really excited about this musical. Apparently people think it's going to sweep at the Tony's next summer."
"I guess we're in for one hell of an evening then, huh?" Jade smirks
"We sure are." He agrees, fumbling with the button on his suit jacket now
"Are you sure you're okay, Beck?"
"Positive." He nods "Never better, in fact."
The show is phenomenal, as is dinner. Cat and Jade talk about both nonstop as the two couples walk back to the hotel Beck and Jade are staying at. The two girls walk in front of their boyfriends, arm-in-arm, as they discuss the different elements of the show and the score that had made it so enjoyable. Beck and Robbie joke with each other about joining hands and skipping down the street behind them, because it's likely that they wouldn't notice. Neither of them mind though, they know that the two friends rarely get to see each other and want to take advantage of the little time they do have together.
"This is us." Jade sighs as they arrive under the awning in front of their hotel "It was so good to see you guys."
"You too." Cat admits as she hugs Jade "What time do you guys have to leave tomorrow? Maybe we could do brunch before you head home?"
"Do we have time for brunch?" Jade asks her boyfriend "What time did you tell them we'd be back?"
"I told Andre we'd be back in time to watch the Jet's game at three." Beck shrugs "We should have time for brunch."
"Brunch it is." Jade nods, offering Cat a smile
"Perfect!" Cat exclaims "I'll make a reservation and text you the details."
"Sounds great." Jade smiles "We'll see you in the morning."
"See you in the morning." Cat confirms "I can't wait to hear all about th-"
"Hey our cab is here!" Robbie cuts her off, ushering her towards the waiting car at the curb "We're really happy that you guys were able to make it down this weekend. We'll see you in the morning!"
"Alright..." Jade laughs as she waves goodbye, a bit confused "Have a good night! That was weird..."
"She probably just got confused with something." Beck assures her, offering his hand for her to hold "Shall we head up?"
"Yeah." Jade agrees "Let's go enjoy having a bedroom to ourselves with no kids running in at the crack of dawn."
"S'like you read my mind." Beck laughs
The couple walks into the hotel hand-in-hand and heads straight for the elevators. Jade doesn't think it takes all that long for one to arrive to take them upstairs, but notices that Beck seems to be growing a bit impatient.
"Are you okay?" She asks him again as the elevator doors open
"Perfectly fine." He assures her "After you."
When they arrive at their room on the twelfth floor, Beck opens the door with his key card and holds it open for Jade. She walks in front of him and flips on the lights, and gasps at the sight in front of her.
Almost the entire room, from the floor to the bed, is covered in rose petals.
"Oh wow..." She smiles as she walks further into the room "Did you...did you go this?"
"Technically room service did this..." Beck grins, sticking his hands into his pockets "But I arranged for it."
"Well, it's a very nice surprise." Jade chuckles, walking over to kiss him "Really sets the mood."
"That's not the only surprise."
"It's not?"
"No..."
Beck walks over to his own overnight bag and starts digging through it, grabbing something that had been hidden beneath his clothes and slipping it into his pocket before Jade can get a good look at what it is.
"I wasn't looking for love when I met you..." He begins as he walks back towards his girlfriend "I honestly didn't think that I was ever going to be in another relationship after Alyssa...but...all of a sudden, there you were. I know that it freaked out out to hear that I already had two daughters, but you still gave our relationship a chance and...I'm so glad that you did."
"Beck..."
"Shhhh..." He smirks as he stands in front of her "I worked really hard on this so let me finish, okay?"
"Okay."
"The past year has been the absolute best year of my life, and that's all because of you." He tells her "You've made me happier than I ever could have imagined I would be...you've embraced having Aspen and Chelsea in your life better than anyone else would have...you brought joy back into our lives. And I never want to let that go...so...Jade West, will you-"
"Yes!"
She already knows what he's going to ask her, and there isn't a doubt in her mind what her answer will be.
Of course she'll marry him, she would marry him a million times over.
As she looks at the man in front of her, she can't believe there had ever been a point where she questioned whether or not she should be with him. She had reservations because he had children, now she can't imagine her life without those two girls in it. Beck, Chelsea, and Aspen...they're her future...and she wouldn't have it any other way.
"Are you going to let me finish the question?"
"Sorry..." Jade apologizes "I just...go ahead."
"I asked your step-dad for his blessing when he and your brother visited last month." He tells her, kneeling in front of her as he pulls the ring box out of his pocket "Jade, will you marry me?"
"Yes!" She tells him again, practically tackling him to the ground with a kiss
He lays back on the ground, pulling her on top of him as they begin making out, his hands nervously fumbling with the zipper on the back of her dress. They're both lost in the moment at first, but then Beck stops.
"Wait." He laughs as he pulls away from her "Wait, do you want to put the ring on?"
"Oh shit, yeah." Jade grins, propping herself up on one elbow to grab the box "It's beautiful, by the way."
It isn't anything extravagant. The diamond isn't obnoxiously large or shiny, but to Jade it's absolutely perfect. A round half carrot diamond sits on two slightly smaller marquise-shaped diamonds on top of a silver band.
"A beautiful ring for a beautiful woman to wear." Beck grins as he takes the box from her "God, that was so fucking cheesy. I'm sorry. Here, I'll put it on."
Jade holds out her left hand to him and he slides the ring onto her finger; it fits perfectly.
"I love it." She smiles
"I love you." He admits "I can't wait to be your husband."
"I can't wait to be your wife." She tells him, leaning down to kiss him again "Would you like to move to the bed and continue where we left off?"
"Sounds perfect."
He stands up and helps her to her feet, then picks her up and allows her to wrap her legs around his waist as he carries her over to the bed. Gently, but just aggressively enough, he throws her down on the mattress, then crawls on top of her. They make brief eye contact for a moment before he leans in to start kissing her and she starts undoing his belt and the button on his dress pants.
It's definitely a good weekend for them to be alone without any children to wake them up in the morning.
