The holidays come and go without a whole lot of drama, and Beck and Jade are extremely thankful. After the whirlwind that was October and November, they're finally able to enjoy being married. Although it's really only a technicality, they had already been living together before Beck proposed and were already at a very serious point in their relationship, there's something about the idea of the lifelong commitment that just makes them both so...happy.

They host a hybrid engagement party and wedding reception on New Year's Eve. A majority of the people who attend were also at their wedding; Beck's parents, Tori, Andre, Cat, Robbie, and even Chris and Tyler fly in for the occasion. There are some others in attendance though, people they work with mostly, a few of Beck's family members who were still in town from Christmas. It's all around a joyous occasion, and Beck and Jade are absolutely elated to get to ring in the new year together as husband and wife.

From that point forward, life starts to slow down a bit. And the couple once again finds themselves falling into a normal routine. It's not much different than it was before they were married, and before Alyssa came around to momentarily disrupt the peace; they both help Aspen and Cheslea with their morning routines, Beck drops them off at school, and Jade picks them up as soon as she can in the afternoons. They have dinner together as a family every night, and spend their weekends playing, reading, and watching movies together. Life feels about as close to perfect as it can get.

"C'mon..." Chelsea sighs, watching the banner running across the bottom of the television screen intently "C'mon..."

It's a Sunday night in mid-February, and the third grader has been watching the screen, almost unblinking, since her father turned it on after dinner. A major snow storm is set to blow through Connecticut in just a few short hours, and is set to bring no less than fourteen inches of snow with it. The area has already started taking precautions, including but not limited to calling off school in the surrounding counties for the next day.

Chelsea has had a snow day before, but it had been back when she was in Kindergarten and she barely remembers it. The only real memory she has is that Beck still had to go to work and she had gotten to stay with her grandparents, but they hadn't been willing to take her out to play. This time, Beck had promised that if they canceled school, he would call off of work...mostly because he's supposed to work a job in New Haven and Jade is worried about him driving in hazardous road conditions.

Finally, Chelsea sees the words 'Avon' and 'West Hartford' roll across the bottom of the screen, confirmation that both her school district and Jade's had decided to be better safe than sorry and cancel school the next day.

"MOM!" Chelsea exclaims, running out of the room as fast as her feet will carry her "MOM! MOM! MOM!"

"Upstairs!" Jade calls back to her

She had been giving Aspen a bath in the bathroom upstairs that the two girls share. Even after a few months she still absolutely loves hearing Chelsea call her mom, and she doesn't think she'll ever get used to it. Never in her life would she have imagined something so simple bringing her so much joy, but she knows how far her and Chelsea's relationship had come since the beginning to get to that point.

"School is canceled!" Chelsea grins as she appears in the doorway "For you and for me!"

"I guess we're staying home tomorrow then." Jade smirks "You too, Miss Aspen."

"No school?" Aspen asks, splashing around in the bubbly water

"Nope..." Jade chuckles "Too much snow."

"Mama stay home?"

"Yup, and Daddy and Chelsea. No one is going anywhere."

"What's going on in here?" Beck asks as he appears in the doorway beside Chelsea "Did I hear someone say there's no school tomorrow?"

"I did!" Chelsea nods "They just showed it on the bottom of the screen on the news! They canceled for me and Mom!"

"Well once one district calls of, the rest usually follow suit." Beck chuckles "Looks like we're going to get to show Mom and Aspen their first proper Connecticut snow day tomorrow!"

"Yay!"

Jade finishes giving Aspen her bath, and then helps her dress in her warmest pair of pajamas and uses her hair dryer to dry her hair. Chelsea had already showered previously, and patiently waits her turn so Jade can braid her hair before bed.

"Since there's no school tomorrow, can we read two chapters tonight?" Chelsea begs, looking to her parents with big, hopeful eyes "Please...?"

"Well, we could..." Beck shrugs, exchanging a look with his wife "But...we had thought you might want to come watch a movie in our room tonight instead?"

"Really!?"

"Only if you want to."

"Would we get to stay up late?"

"Well seeing as it's almost your bedtime and we haven't even started the movie, yes."

"That sounds great!" Chelsea exclaims "Pen! Do you want to stay up late and watch a movie in Mom and Dad's room?"

"Yeah!" Aspen grins "I wuv movie!"

Beck tells the girls that they have to agree on a movie and after about twenty minutes of bickering back and forth, they finally settle on Fantasia. Jade loves that much like their father, Aspen and Chelsea tend to prefer the classic movies to the more modern ones. Sure, they love Frozen and Moana and Luca just as much as any other two and eight year-olds, but they also actively seek out movies like Fantasia, Sleeping Beauty, and Winnie the Pooh. She just knows that Beck is anxiously awaiting the day that he can begin showing them the classic movies that he loves, especially the ones involving Ingrid Bergman and Elizabeth Taylor.

Beck and Jade each settle into their side of the bed, and Aspen and Chelsea crawl beneath the covers between them as the movie begins. The film itself is over two hours long so neither Beck nor Jade expect either of the girls to stay awake through the very end. It's Aspen that falls asleep first, which is to be expected, after only about half an hour. Chelsea almost makes it the entire way, but finally falls asleep with about fifteen minutes left. Beck and Jade watch the rest of the movie holding hands on top of the blankets. Finally, when the movie is over, Beck switches off the TV and turns on his bedside lamp.

"I'll take Chelsea and you take Pen?" He whispers to his wife

It would make the most sense. Chelsea had fallen asleep on his side and Aspen on Jade's, it would be the least disruptive for them to each take the child closest to them to carry back to bed.

"What if we let them stay here?" Jade suggests quietly "They look so peaceful."

"They also take up a lot of room." Beck chuckles "Besides I thought you and I were going to...you know...tonight?"

Even if they're asleep and completely unaware, it still feels inappropriate for him to say the word 'sex' in front of his children.

"We can do that any night." Jade reminds him "How often will they have snow days?"

"Alright, you win..." Beck smirks, leaning over to kiss her goodnight "But don't be upset when they wake you up at the crack of dawn."

"They would do that anyway." Jade laughs "Goodnight, I love you."

"I love you too."

Sure enough, both Chelsea and Aspen are awake at first light, begging their parents to take them out to play in the 'millions of inches' of snow that had fallen overnight.

In reality, it had actually been closer to fifteen. Regardless, it's more than the city would have been able to clear in time in order to get everyone to work and school safely that morning.

Beck uses the snowblower to clear off the driveway and sidewalks, a task that would have probably taken him close to three hours with a regular snow shovel rather than the one it had with the help of the machine. The mounds of snow in the yard are tall enough for Aspen and Chelsea to race their sleds down, which is a very good thing because there's no way they would have made it out to the sledding hill given the current road conditions.

Jade watches her husband and the two children from inside the front window, more content than anything to watch them have fun with one another. She finds herself having more and more moments as of late where she just stops to be thankful for everything that she has, especially what she has because of meeting Beck. Dropping her life in LA and moving to Connecticut was the craziest decision she's ever made...but it was also the best.

"Mom!" Chelsea yells when she sees Jade watching them "Come play with us!"

Jade shakes her head with a smile, more than happy to stay inside where it's warm. As her husband had once said...you can take the girl out of SoCal, but you can't take the SoCal out of the girl.

"Please!" Chelsea begs, falling to her knees and almost disappearing beneath the many layers of snow

"Yeah!" Aspen chimes in "Please!"

Rolling her eyes playfully, Jade nods with a grin, holding up one finger to the two girls to signal that she'll be out in one minute. After dressing herself in her snow gear, she saunters out the front door and down the freshly cleared front walk to join her family in the snow.

Together they work to build a giant snowman in the yard, which is easier said than done because it's difficult for Aspen and Chelsea to walk in the snow that isn't already packed firmly down. It's mostly Beck and Jade doing all of the work, but they don't mind. They know that in the end, it will turn into a wonderful childhood memory for both of the girls.

When Aspen and Chelsea grow tired of playing in the snow, the family retreats back into the warmth of their house to thaw from the morning of winter fun. Jade makes grilled cheese and tomato soup for lunch while Beck gives Aspen a warm bath to help return her body temperature to normal. Chelsea insists that she's fine, but ends up taking a hot shower after lunch as well. Aspen quickly falls asleep, exhausted from the excitement of the morning, and is carried up to her bed to nap. Meanwhile, Beck builds a fire in the fireplace and Jade and Chelsea snuggle up together on the couch to read, both of them clad in the comfiest winter clothes they could find.

It's no secret that Jade absolutely detests the harsh winter weather that living in Connecticut brings every year, but making memories like this with her family? That's something she wouldn't trade for anything.
