Chapter 2: Washington E.D.
Here we can see in the middle of the street there is a building which caught on fire. People are all looking at it as a team of firefighters try and rescue as many people as they can, doing their best to save everyone. Unfortunately, they seem to have missed some, as a woman and her child are still trapped inside. The woman is running frenetically with her child by the hand, trying desperately to get out of there before it's too late. They take a turn to the left, however and unfortunately for them, the ceiling in front of them collapses just before they can get out, making their escape impossible. The woman looks back and grabs her child to go another route, however the flames have grown too much to go back. It seems they are trapped and, to make things worse, the ceiling over them is showing signs of giving up.
The woman embraces her child and the two kneed down while closing their eyes, thinking this is the end of it, just as the ceiling finally fells. However, neither felt the ceiling crushing them to their deaths while the flames engulf them. Instead, they slowly opened their eyes and saw something that made them both gasp in shock and surprise: a creature seemingly made out of the fire was holding the debris that was going to fall over them. The two look at it in disbelief, thinking it may be some hallucination caused by all the smoke, or some sort of post mortem dream. Finally, the kid decides to break the silence and asks, "Who are you?"
"I'm here to help" the creature responded. "My name is Heatblast" he said as he threw the rubble down and put his hands in front of him, somehow absorbing all the fire that was blocking the path. The creature, Heatblast, made a gesture for them to move on and follow him. The kid, impressed with this apparent superhero who was trying to save them, followed him with eagerness, while the mother tried to stop him in vain. She decided to trust this strange stranger, whatever it was it was obviously trying to help them, and she followed through the door.
They got out of the room and ran to the stairs. "This way!" Heatblast told them, just before the stairs collapsed, leaving them trapped on the floor they were in. "Aaah… on second thought, this way!" Heatblast exclaimed as he turned to another corridor. It seemed to be a dead-end, as it only had a window and they were in the third floor, however Heatblast put his hands together and shot a powerful fire blast, which made a huge hole in the wall. He then used his fire bending capabilities to create a small tornado of fire with his own flames, encasing the mother and the kid, as well as himself, while carefully putting the fire to a minimum as to not burn them, to transport them to safety, landing on the street below.
Onlookers watched in awe as the tornado of fire descended to the street and the flames put off by themselves, revealing a huge magma creature standing there, with a woman and a child behind it. Firefighters and paramedics were quick to approach the mother and her son, though surprisingly neither had a single scratch or burn on them. The fire chief carefully approached the fire creature, who was just standing there.
"T-Thanks for your help, sir" the chief told him.
"No problem" Heatblast responded. "Now, I don't like to presume, but-" he was cut off when two boys rushed through the crowd, one had a black beanie and a red t-shirt, while the other wore an olive jacket and a red and white striped shirt.
"Edd-I mean Heatblast, the fire was just a cover up for a jewelry store robber!" the beanie boy, Double D, exclaimed while taking some breaths due to all the running he made.
"The bad guys are getting away!" the tall boy, Ed, exclaimed, not tired at all even when running a sprint. The fire chief gave the two boys a raising eyebrow, not sure how either of them seemed to know this creature, or how they had this information. The fire creature simply stared back at them.
"Oh… I knew that!" Edd-I mean Heatblast said. He then started running through the street, shooting two small flames from his hands to the ground to jump up high, then turning his own feet into some kind of fire surfboard, effectively surfing through the air and chasing after a suspicious black car that was rushing through the street, avoiding any car or pedestrian nearby.
"What did I tell you? Easy money!" one of the robbers told his partners while holding a bag full of money and jewels, a ski mask covering his face. They had been planning this robbery for months, they purposely started a fire on an apartment building as a diversion to keep the police busy while they stole the jewelry a few blocks away. Since Peach Creek had only a few police officers and they would be trying to rescue the people inside, by the time they were reported of the robbery they would already be far away. It was so easy…
"Hey, what's that?" one of his partners, the driver, asked as he looked through the rear view. There seemed to be a huge ball of fire behind them. Suddenly, a smaller fire ball came off from it, almost hitting their car. Then another one came off, almost hitting them again. A third one crashed just in front of them, making their car slide and almost causing them to crash.
The driver tried to keep control of the steer wheel and stay on the road, while dodging the incoming projectiles shooting towards them. He took another turn, trying to lose this fire ball, however the thing did a U-turn and continued to follow them like a dark cloud. The two other robbers leaned out from the car windows with their guns, trying to shot the fire creature down the sky. However, neither's aim was good enough to hit it, and the few bullets that actually hit didn't seem to faze it at all, immediately burning upon contact.
The creature created another fire ball on its hands and shot it towards the robber's car, this time hitting a wheel and causing the driver to lose complete control of their vehicle, which crashed into a brick wall.
"Strike!" Heatblast exclaimed as he landed gracefully on the ground, the fire surfboard reverting back to his feet. He approached the car and ripped the driver's door off. Thankfully, the thieves didn't seem to be badly hurt, just stunned from the impact. However, while Heatblast didn't intend on hurting them, he sure as hell wasn't going to let them go either. "Unless you punks want permanent sunburns, put your hands against the wall!" Heatblast threatened while crushing the metal door still in his hands for better emphasis.
The thieves looked at him in fear and decided to obey, dropping their guns and slowly getting out of the car. They knew better than to try to pull any trick on this creature, since they probably couldn't hurt it and they didn't want to test its flames. As the thieves putted their hands against the wall like Heatblast had told them, the hourglass symbol on his chest started flashing a red light and emitting a beep sound, though he remained unaware of that, too caught in the action to realize.
"You really picked a bad day to be bad-" a red light engulfed Heatblast before he could finish that sentence, "-guys" a now squeaky voice finished. The thieves turned their heads around and much to their surprise, the huge fire creature that was threatening them had seemingly disappeared, and a short chubby boy with a yellow t-shirt and a weird black and red watch was standing behind them, looking rather smugly.
"Hey, it's just a kid! Get the jewels!" one of the thieves exclaimed.
Eddy looked at his arms and body to realize that he had timed out. "Aww, great…" he muttered under his breath. "Wow! Time sure flies when you're having fun! I'll let you guys off with a warning this time…" Eddy said while smiling at them, having realize he was no match for these thugs while in his human form. He was starting to turn around and walk away before they decided to hurt him, when he heard sirens and a group of police cars surrounded them. Luckily, Double D and Ed seemed to have alerted the police about the chase, and they had no trouble following since all they had to do was follow the huge fire ball flying through the city.
"Freeze!" one of the cops exclaimed while pointing his gun at the robbers, who once again proceeded to drop their bags and guns, having realize they were outnumbered.
"They're all yours, officer!" Eddy said as the police officers went to cuff them. "Now, I know ya' all wanna thank me, but-"
"Get back, son. This is not playtime!" an officer cut him off.
"PLAYTIME?! I'm the one who caught them!" Eddy angrily exclaimed, but the police were busy taking the robbers off and wouldn't pay him any attention. "Aww, man…" Eddy let an annoyed grunt.
The next day:
As the sun rises over the Cul-De-Sac, signaling the residents that a new day has started, we zoom in on a certain blue house, where we see Double D, woke up by the sun rays beating over his face.
He got up and made his bed, making sure the sheets were perfectly straight by ironing them, then he went packed himself some clothes, making sure to take his Monday hat, and went to the bathroom to start his daily hygiene routine, after that was done, now with fresh clothes, he made his way to the kitchen to cook himself some breakfast and to do his chores that his parents had left for him today on the thousands of sticky notes scattered around the house, not that it bothered him anymore, after doing this for so long, it was practically normal.
It has been a week already since Eddy had gotten a strange watch from outer space that could turn him into different aliens, fought a giant robot intending on destroying the entire Cul-da-sac to get it and started fighting crime across Peach Creeks and its suburbs. He had slept late yet again, after another night of 'patrolling' the city alongside Eddy and Ed. However he was still content with himself, knowing they were helping, the events of last night still fresh in his memory, in where Eddy had helped in rescuing people from a burning building, and the three of them had helped the police in arresting the culprits.
Double D had to admit Eddy was getting better at using the watch, sure he still needed the occasional nudge to stop him from being too selfish, but he was sure his friend would get on the right track eventually. He finished his breakfast and quickly started doing his chores, and after a few hours he finished and went to Ed's house, to get Ed to come with him to Eddy's house and see what crazy adventure awaited for them today.
Knocking on the door, he was immediately greeted by Ed with his almost plastered smile on his face. "Hi Double D" said Ed, always happy to see his friend.
"Good morning Ed. Have you by any chance seen Eddy" asked Double D.
"Eddy?" asked Ed confused. "Is it time to play again?" asked Ed again, this time more oblivious then confused.
"No Ed, I'm asking because I'm wondering if you saw him using, you know….the watch." Double D whispered the last part so that if anyone was around they wouldn't hear him. Ed just stared at him with his usually goofy face, not giving a single response. "The watch Ed." repeated Double D again, thinking that Ed didn't heard him the first time.
"Watched?" Ed asked, still misunderstanding what Double D said.
"No Ed, the watch. The watch." repeated Double D once again in a low voice, while making sure only Ed heard him.
"Gravy?" Ed asked out of the blue.
Double D sighed. "Let's go and see Eddy, Ed" he said as he started walking towards Eddy's house.
"Yay! Time to play with Eddy!" Ed happily exclaimed as he followed.
They went to Eddy's house, gone to the backyard, and knocked on the outside door of his room, but got no response. They knocked again, still nothing. "Hmm, Eddy must be still asleep" muttered Double D, then went to his room window to see if anyone was in there, but it was too dark for him to see anything. Suddenly, he heard a zooming noise, it was fast, so fast in fact that it was barely audible. He peaked his head from the corner of the house to try see anything, and was immediately met with a faint blue and black blur, and A LOT of raised dust, coming to his way. He immediately returned to the backyard coughing the dust that got in his oral cavity, after that both Double D and Ed noticed an unusual looking figure in the mist of thick dust.
After the dust cleared, Double D could see what appeared to be a semi-armored Velociraptor. It has black orbs on its feet, long blue arms that had scissor-like claws that, when united formed a round pointy tip like spear, and wears a black conoid helmet with a light blue X like visor that is leaving the other features of its head unknown. It has five blue stripes on his tail, and wears skintight black pants and a skintight turtleneck-like shirt with a yellow stripe on the center. Also it had a very familiar hourglass symbol on its chest. Before Double D's mind could connect the dots, the creature's visor got up, allowing the stunned Eds to see its face features; it has a blue face, green eyes, black lips, and stripes above and on the right side of its eyes.
"Hey guys!" the creature saluted the two Eds with its black lips in a faint high-pitch voice. Double D then noticed that, in one of its clawed hands, there was a jar filled full with a lot of quarters and a few bucks inside of it, and immediately connected the dots.
"Eddy! You've been using the watch to scam the kids again?!" Double D questioned.
"I wouldn't say that exactly…" 'Eddy' responded.
Meanwhile at the Playground:
"Jimmy, what happened?" Sarah asked confused.
"I don't know Sarah, it all went so fast!" Jimmy exclaimed. Right now, both were hanging from their pants on a tree, when just a moment ago they had been playing like any normal day and next thing they knew, something had grabbed them and left them hanging on a tree, but it had been so fast they only saw a blue and black blur moving. Also, their pockets felt emptier for some reason.
Meanwhile in the Forest:
"…Well, this is a weird way to start a day" Johnny said to himself as he hung from a tree, his big head stuck between two branches. What's weird about that? Or isn't that always happening to him? Well yes, but this time is weirder. For one, he remembered being in the Lane, searching with his buddy Plank to see if any more aliens appeared, but nowhere near the forest. Second, before he knew it, something grabbed him and left him hanging from a tree. Also his head felt sticky, probably because of the empty bottles of super glue lying on the ground. Also his allowance money he got today disappeared.
"This sucks, but at least Plank went for help" Johnny said happily as he waited patiently for his friend, he could always count on Plank. Unknown to him, Plank was laying down about two yards behind him, lying like the motionless piece of wood he-IT is.
Back with the Eds:
"That is no way to treat my baby sister Edward!" Ed scolded his friend in a disappointed motherly tone after Eddy had explained to them what he had done in this new form, known as 'XLR8'. Said alien merely looked at him confused.
"EDDY!" Double D said, greatly disappointed in his friend's actions, "You've been using the watch for your own fun and to scam people! That's not right!" exclaimed Double D as he let an exhausted sigh, "But of course! Of course you would do that, of course you would use the watch for your own entertainment and selfish, greedy deed's! That is what you do! Never learn anything from your actions, and do what you want without a bit of remorse or thinking about the consequences of your actions! What happened with that talk about responsibility we had when you first found the watch?!" Double D stated in frustration at his friends ruffian antics.
Meanwhile XLR8 wasn't bothered by Double D's scolding as he checked his claws, merely a bit annoyed, "You done Sockhead? Good, cause I was getting bored" XLR8 said as he saw Double D's stunned expression and agape mouth, which he immediately closed with his free claw. "You might want to keep it shut. After all, we wouldn't want you to bullfight an insane Roster, right?" XLR8 asked sarcastically. "And listen, I've been stopping thieves and saving people from fires all week, all I'm saying is I should have a little reward!" he exclaimed as he showed them his jar with the money to prove his point.
"Are you really going to use your duty as a hero as an excuse to take whatever you want?" Double D asked, not believing what his friend was telling him.
"That's low!" Ed booed while giving XLR8 a thumb down.
"Whatever, you guys are just jealous because you don't have a cool watch like mine's" XLR8 shrugged as he put his visor back on and turned around. "Race you to the candy shop!" he exclaimed as he started running, turning into a blue and black blur and quickly disappearing from sight, leaving behind a trace of dust and a gust of wind so big it almost blew Double D's hat away.
Meanwhile in another part of the city:
In a different part of the city, we see a somewhat short and fat middle-aged man incessantly knocking on an apartment's door. He is partially bald and only has brown hair on the side of his head. He wears a brown suit and has wrinkles on his forehead. He has a tie which is a little more reddish than his suit and his eyes are black. The man's name is Roger, and he's not a happy man right now.
"Animo! I know you're in there! Open up!" Roger shouted as he continued to bang the door to no response whatsoever. This made him even grouchier. This Animo guy hadn't pay the rent in the six months he had been living in his apartment.
Luckily, as the landlord he had a passkey to every apartment he owned. He took the key from his pocket and opened the door. As he stepped inside, he inspected the main room. There were a lot of animal cages, of both bars and glass, containing different animals, mostly reptiles but there were also some small mammals and even insects. Other than that the house didn't have much furniture and wasn't in the cleanest of conditions to say the least. The guy wasn't fond of cleanness Roger could tell, not even the cages of his precious animals, since he could smell what seemed to be their wastes.
"Feuw! Smells like a zoo in here…" Roger grunted as he walked past some of the cages, looking for his tenant, who had yet to pay rent. Unbeknownst to him, a shadowy figure came from a room behind him and was watching him without being detect. Roger was too distracted watching a glass cage which seemed to contain some weird kind of frog to notice the shadowy figure stepping behind him.
When he turned around, he was confronted by a man with pale, almost greenish skin and long white hair that went to his shoulders. This was Doctor Aloysius Animo. "How did you get in?" Animo questioned.
"Passkey. I'm your landlord, remember?" Roger retorted as he fixed his tie, trying to regain his composure after Animo had scared him. "Maybe not since your rent is 6 months passed due…" he demanded.
Animo just looked at the man with indifference. "All my funds go into my research! Now get out! You're disturbing me" he berated as he turned his back on him and went to check one of his pet cages.
"Looks like you were disturbed long before I got here, pal" Roger muttered behind his back. "Look! You and you're friends are out of here if you don't pony up the green!" he insisted as he extended his open hand for emphasis.
Animo turned around to look at him with a raised an eyebrow. "Green? Pony up? Interesting choice of phrases. You must be an animal lover!" he said while giving Roger a wicked smile. He grabbed a frog from one of the cages and put it on the ground. "Then you're gonna love this!" he exclaimed as he walked to a nearby table and grabbed some sort of equipment.
It seemed to be some sort of plate that he attached to his stomach, connected by two cables to some kind of helmet, although it looked more like a strainer but with two antennas coming out of it, giving it the impression of horns. Roger couldn't contain his laughter upon seeing the silliness of the helmet when Animo put it on his head. "What's that? Are you part of the moose lodge or something?!" the landlord laughed hysterically.
Animo seemed unfazed by the comment. "This is my Transmodulator, phase 1" he explained while pointing up with one of his fingers for emphasis. "It accelerates mutations at a genetic level! Watch!" he exclaimed as he moved a hand on the plate. Suddenly, a red beam of energy came from the antennas on Animo's helmet and hit the small frog on the ground, altering its genetic information and causing it to mutate, growing many times its size as well as gaining additional features, like horns and even an extra pair of eyes. The end result was a giant, menacingly looking frog which toppled the rooftop and barely fit in the room. It seemed to have come straight out of a B rated monster movie. Roger let out a scream as the monster frog opened its mouth to engulf him. He continued to scream while inside the frog's mouth.
"I'm sorry, I can't hear you! Sounds like you have a frog in your throat!" Animo mocked. "Or is that the other way around?" he laughed. Finally, the frog decided to spit Roger out, sending him into a wall and leaving him stunned on the ground covered in green saliva. Content with having his retaliation for daring to mock him, Animo turned his attention back to what mattered to him, taking a small piece of paper out of his pocket.
"So close to having what is rightfully mine! All I need is a few lousy components to finish my work!" he exclaimed while looking at the paper in his hands.
Suddenly, the television he had turned on for background sound came alive, the commercial airing actually catching his attention. He had been watching the news for the past few days, as more reports about strange creatures appearing across the city, as well as nearby towns, had been more and more frequent, starting last week with what seemed to be a creature made of green diamonds fighting a giant robot at a small Cul-da-sac. Animo knew that these creatures were the next step in the evolutionary line, and all this had actually motivated him to complete his work and finish his Transmodulator. He would help change the world, using his technology to help humanity reach its next level and creating 'perfect' beings, like the 'beautiful' mutant frog he just made.
"So, whatever you need, from light bulbs to electronics, you'll find them under one roof at the Hardware Store!" the announcer on the TV announced. Animo looked at it, an evil smile forming on his face.
"Just what the doctor ordered…" he said somberly.
Back with the Eds:
Here we can see Double D and Ed looking for Eddy. They walked to the Candy Store, where Eddy said he was going, but they found it was closed and there were no signs of Eddy around. That was until they saw something moving inside between the jawbreakers through the window. Upon closer inspection, they saw what seemed to be a grey-skinned, frog-like, bipedal alien that is only four inches tall with large green eyes, which have rectangular pupils and horizontal eyelids. It wore a yellow jump suit with a thin vertical red stripe down the front (Like Eddy's shirt), its forehead had a larger version of the jumpsuit stripe. It also had the hourglass symbol on its back, so Double D assumed it must be Eddy. "Eddy? Just what on Earth are you doing there?" Double D questioned his friend.
"What do you think, Sockhead?" 'Eddy' said in a very squeaky voice. "The store was closed, but that doesn't matter when you have this cool watch!" the small alien exclaimed.
"Eddy, you should be using those powers for good! Not to seek self-gratification!" Double D reproached.
"Relax, it's not like there's anything happening right now. What's the problem with having a little bit of fun?" 'Eddy' responded as he used his small size to jump in between the jawbreakers and quite literary swim in them.
"Haha, Eddy is so puny!" Ed laughed as he watched 'Eddy' swim in the jawbreakers with stars in his eyes.
"Shut up, Neanderthal!" 'Eddy' exclaimed as he reared his tiny head from the jawbreakers. "I may be small, but sometimes being small has its advantages, like in this case!" he stated.
"Uh… what's a Neanderthal, Double D?" Ed asked in confusion, having never heard his friend call him that one.
"It's a sophisticated word for caveman, Ed" Double D explained. He then turned back to look at 'Eddy' through the window. "I'm surprised you actually know this word, Eddy" he commented.
"Well, that's not surprising at all Sockhead, considering you still don't even come close to understanding the Collatz Conjecture" 'Eddy' said in a matter-of-fact tone.
Double D raised his eyebrows at this. It was true he still hadn't been able to solve it yet, but how did Eddy even know about such a complex thing? His best guess was that despite the small size, this transformation somehow increased his friend's intelligence to a much higher degree, one that could even surpass his. Still, it was not nice to hear Eddy talk to him as if he was as intelligent as… well, Ed.
"What's that supposed to mean?!" Double D asked with a shocked, insulted and angry tone. Their argument was cut short though, as they felt the sound of something massive jump and land just on top of the Candy Store and then to the street in front of them, causing the entire ground to shake, even inside the store where the jawbreakers started falling and rolling through the ground with 'Eddy' comically running over a rolling jawbreaker in cartoonish fashion that ended with those same results: 'Eddy' falling face first on the ground, with another jawbreaker rolling over him and leaving him flat on the ground for comedic purposes.
Outside, Double D and Ed saw what seemed to be a giant frog that leaped from the roof of the Candy Shop to the middle of the street. What was even more surprising was that a man with a weird helmet seemed to be riding it. The man got off the giant frog and entered the Hardware Store in front of them.
"What is that thing?!" Double D asked in shock upon seeing the gigantic frog in front of them. Sure he was getting accustomed with Eddy's transformations to the idea of extraterrestrial beings, he knew those alien forms had to have members of those species, and he had even seen giant robots that seemed to be made out of alien tech, but a giant amphibian with horns was something else entirely.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk. People should really watch where they park their giant frogs, huh Double D?" Ed reproached like this was something he saw every day. Double D quizzically looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
Inside the Hardware Store, Dr. Animo entered and started grabbing pieces of tech, putting them in a bag like he was robbing money from a bank. The store's employee walked up to him, clearly confused about the man's appearance and what he was doing. "Huh, sir, what are you doing exactly?" the employee asked. Animo stopped grabbing things to look at him for a moment, before he snapped his fingers and the tongue from the mutant frog came through the window, grabbed the employee and engulfed him into the frog's mouth. Animo resumed what he was doing.
"Oh my God!" Double D exclaimed in horror upon seeing the giant frog eat a man as if he was a fly. "Eddy! You have to do something!" he exclaimed as he looked inside the Candy Store. A 'Hmmph' was all the response he got as his friend was still flat on the ground. "Right…" he realized and turned back to Ed. "Ed! You have to do something!"
"On it, Double D" Ed exclaimed as he gave a military salute, before jumping into the frog and somehow wrestling with it. After a few minutes he managed to grab the mutant frog by its mid-section like it was some sort of dog. "Come on froggy, spit it! Spit it!" Ed said as he pressed the giant frog's stomach until it finally spitted the employee, who was covered in green saliva and visibly stunned.
Just then, Animo walked out of the Hardware Store with the tech pieces he stole, only to find Ed holding his mutant frog in the Heimlich maneuver. "What's the meaning of this? What are you doing to my frog, kid?" Animo asked upon seeing the scene.
"I'm sorry sir, but who exactly are you and what are you doing?" Double D inquired as he looked at the man and wondered why he was wearing goggles and a strainer over his head.
"I am Doctor Aloysius Animo, soon to be ruler of the world after I change it back to its prehistoric nature! You better stay out of this, kids! Don't try to play hero!" Animo demanded.
"Well, usually our friend is who plays hero, but since he isn't available and my other friend is holding your… frog, if you can call it that, I would suggest you surrender and turn yourself to the local authorities…" Double D was saying, but Animo simply ignored him and walked to the store next to the Hardware Store, which unfortunately for them was Underwood's Pet Shop. He stood in front of the window, looking at the pet animals inside before deciding on one, he then moved the hand on the plate in his chest and a red beam came out of the antennas on his helmet, coming through the window and hitting a bird inside its cage. The bird started to mutate, growing in size until it was so big it broke its cage, then continued to grow until it broke the shop's window and continued to grow as it started to fly up to the sky.
"Not good…" Double D observed as it saw the mutant bird flying over their heads, probably as big as the frog Ed was holding.
"Behold the genius of Dr. Animo!" Animo exclaimed as he once again moved the plate, this time shooting its red beam towards a ferret that was running free through the street after the mutant bird broke the shop's window. The beam engulfed the ferret and started mutating it, making it grow in size to rival that of the frog and giving it an extra pair of red eyes. "Nothing will stop me from getting what I deserve, today I will make history! Or should I say pre-history?" Animo declared as he jumped over the ferret's back just as the giant bird flew over and grabbed his arm with its talons, flying him away. The giant frog broke out of Ed's grasp and started leaping behind its master. The ferret however decided to stay, looking at Ed and Double D as if they were mice.
"Run away!" Ed shouted as he and Double D started running from the giant ferret chasing after them. Eddy, who had timed out and returned to his human form, looked at them through the Candy Store's door, trying to open it to no avail.
"Ed! Double D!" Eddy shouted for his friends, but they were too far and too busy to listen. Eddy looked at his watch, but saw it was still red, which mean it was still in recharge mode. "What kind of pet food are they selling?" Eddy questioned as he looked hopelessly at the giant ferret chasing his friends.
Meanwhile, Ed and Double D were running through the street, the hungry ferret hot in pursuit after them. Suddenly Double D had an idea. "Ed! I don't think this creature can chase after both of us if we go in separate directions!" he explained to his friend running by his side.
"What?" Ed asked frightened, not understanding what Double D was trying to tell him. He usually never understood him, but especially not when he was so scared and running from a mutant creature.
"I'll go one way, you go the other!" Double D explained as simply as he could, as he turned to the right while Ed moved to the left, the ferret deciding to go after the hat wearing boy.
"Why does it go after me?!" Double D exclaimed as he tiredly continued to run away. Maybe it saw him as the easiest prey? Maybe his hat reminded it of some sort of bird? Or perhaps it just was down to his plain bad luck. He continued to run until he went through an alley, which unfortunately for him was a dead end.
Double D turned around in time to see the mutant ferret coming his way. He started to throw some of the nearby trash cans to the ground in an attempt to stop the ferret coming his way, however the mutant creature merely knocked them away as it continued to advance towards him. Double D started to tremble in fear, his legs shaking and sweat running through his face as the ferret opened its mouth, showing that its teeth had also gotten bigger and sharper with its mutation. Just as he thought he would wet his pants, he heard a familiar voice shouting.
"Hey furry, leave my friend alone!" the ferret turned its head to see Ed standing on the other side of the alley, looking all brave and defiant. It roared as it charged at him, but Ed was ready to receive it by throwing a trash can right to its head, and although it hit the ferret just knocked it aside and charged back at Ed, tackling him to the ground.
"Ed!" Double D shouted in concern for his friend. However, Ed was ready for the ferret as when it charged at him again, he grabbed another trash can, this time using it to block the ferret's tackle and managing to stick its face on the can. The ferret swung desperately trying to get the trash can out of its face, Ed holding to it while swinging through the airs.
"Oh God…" Double D muttered desperately as he watched his friend fight the giant creature. He tried to look around for something that could help, but all he saw was trash… wait a minute. He quickly started formulating something in his head as he took different pieces of trash, including a trash can, plywood, a fire extinguisher, bike handles, two metal wires, four metal cans and half a crate.
By the time he finished attaching all the parts with duct tape he had on his pocket, he had created a new version of his Garbage Scooter. He hopped into the vehicle, igniting its motor and going off at its max speed, using a fallen trash can as a ramp to jump up high, just in time too as the mutant ferret had thrown Ed into the air. Double D managed to catch Ed with his vehicle and the two swiftly landed on the ground.
"Where'd this wagon come from, hotshot?!" Ed asked as he looked at his friend's new invention that had just saved him.
"Necessity, Ed. Fabricated with everyday suburban litter in order to increase our velocity within our constant battles against evildoers" Double D answered. He then turned his head around and saw the ferret had finally unstuck the trash can off its face and was growling at them menacingly. "Now, come on. We have to stop this mutant mammal once and for all" he said as he put the vehicle back on march and did a turnout of the alley, the ferret following close behind.
Double D did a couple more turns as he made sure the ferret stayed behind them when they entered the Construction Site, in order to lure it to a trap. He then turned his head again to see the ferret was closing behind them. "Ed! I need you to throw one of your shoes to its face! Preferably towards its nose!" he told Ed.
"Okey dokey, Smokey!" Ed exclaimed as he took out one of his shoes, a stream of putrid stench immediately emanating from it. "Tell me fur ball, have you ever experience the mighty smelly shoe beating?" he asked as he threw his shoe with all his might, hitting the ferret on its face and temporarily blinding it with its smell.
The mutant creature roared in agony while Double D used a wooden board over a pile of dirt as a ramp to jump up high, going over a still-in-construction house and swiftly landing on the ground, a few meters away from it. The blind ferret however went through the house, destroying its pillars as it passed, causing the entire structure to collapse over it.
After a few minutes, the ferret broke out of the rubble, still roaring angrily. However, it soon got put down again after a steamroller fell over it, courtesy of Ed. "Road Roller Da!" Ed exclaimed.
"Please Ed, no more anime references" Double D told him. To their surprise, they could still hear the ferret growling at them from under the steamroller, though it was unable to lift it up and attack them. "It's resilient, I'll give it that…" Double D observed.
"Don't even think about it, think about it!" Ed said as he took out his other shoe and threw it on the ferret's face, the stink finally knocking it out cold.
"Well done, Ed! Seems like Eddy isn't the only hero in the team!" Double D congratulated. Ed smiled widely at this, Double D was saying he was a superhero! "Speaking of which, I think we better get back and pick up a certain someone…" Double D said with a bit of disdain in his tone as he remembered why Eddy hadn't been there to help them.
Later on:
After getting Eddy out of the Candy Store, the Eds had to reassemble and think of a way to find Dr. Animo to stop him. Sure finding a guy flying in a giant bird while being followed by a giant frog may sound easy, but the guy was somehow actually doing a pretty decent job at keeping a low profile. Right now they were on Ed's room, the unofficial basement of operations for their team, since no one would try to come and disrupt them in such a messy place.
"I said I was sorry, okay?! Geez!" Eddy angrily exclaimed while lying on Ed's couch, cross armed and with his jar still full of money by his side, looking down and trying to avoid eye contact with Double D.
Speaking of him, the smartest Ed was furiously tapping buttons on his laptop, trying to find some information that could be useful as to what exactly Dr. Animo had planned. He also avoided eye contact with Eddy, still upset at what his friend did. Ed was literary and figuratively just standing in the middle between both his friends, his usual goofy smile uncharacteristically missing from his face. Tension between the trio was so thick, you needed a chainsaw to cut it.
The intense silence filling the room plus Ed's puppy eyes were starting to get into Eddy's nerves. "Look, Sockhead. I'm sorry! How was I supposed to know some wacko was going to leap frog outta nowhere with a giant from by him?" Eddy said in annoyance.
Double D didn't even move his eyes from the laptop's screen to respond. "Eddy. You're being selfish with your powers. If you hadn't go swimming in sugar, you could have been there to stop that madman before he escaped, and now is planning on doing Lord-knows-what with those mutant animals and technology he stole" he paused for a second to look at Eddy, who instinctively moved his eyes away from him. "Me and Ed were in danger, and we could really have used one of your alien transformations' help. You do realize I nearly become lunch for a mutated creature?" he questioned as he moved back to write on his laptop.
"Being a hero is not about abusing your powers to fulfill your wishes just because you save someone, it's your duty, your responsibility of helping people in need. That's what differentiates good willing men from criminals, what differentiates you from guys like… him" Double D stated as he turned his laptop around, the screen showing a photo of a young Dr. Animo, whose hair was still brown instead of grey at the time, as well as his skin not being as pale nor as green like it was now. He was also wearing a white trench coat, like an actual scientist. The profile next to the photo showed information about him, as well as about his work.
"I knew I recognized that name somewhere. Doctor Aloysius James Animo. Five years ago he was a promising researcher in veterinary science. His career was cut short when it was discovered that he was performing twisted genetic experiments on animals. He had hoped that his research would win him the Verities Award, which is an award in veterinary science. Because of the nature of his research, he lost the award to another doctor, named Kelly. This drove him mad and he went off the map for five years until he could perfect his research" Double D explained.
"That doesn't tell us what he's planning on doing, Sockhead" Eddy told him. "How are we supposed to find him? If what you and Ed said is true and he really went flying on a giant bird, then he could be anywhere!"
Double D went silent at this, not having an answer for that yet. The three Eds thought for a moment (well, mostly Edd and Eddy did), using the power of their (two-and-a-half) brains to try and deduce where Animo was going to strike next. Predictably, Double D was the one to come with an answer. "Eureka!" he exclaimed with a snap of his fingers.
"Oh, I want some too! Can I put gravy on it?" Ed asked like they were talking about food.
"Actually Ed, Eureka is not a food, it's an interjection used to celebrate a discovery or invention, attributed to the Ancient Greek mathematician and inventor Archimedes…" Double D informed. "But, that's not important, I think I have correctly guessed where Dr. Animo is going next!"
"Oh! Oh! Oh! Pick me! I know!" Ed exclaimed while raising his hand and tumbling around like a child trying to get the attention of his teacher.
"Uh, yes Ed?" Double D asked.
"He's going to the forests of mother nature to find the animal parents of the animals, reuniting them and give them a big happy ending!" Ed exclaimed happily as he hugged himself. Double D and Eddy actually made eye contact to look at each other over their friend's stupidity.
"Wake up, Lumpy! This wacko has a machine that turns animals into monsters. He's obviously going to the zoo!" Eddy claimed with a proud smirk, like he had been the one to solve the puzzle.
"That's not a bad guess Eddy, but the only problem with your theory is that there is no zoo in Peach Creek, nor any of its nearby towns for that matter" Double D informed.
"What? Then where is he going?" Eddy asked in confusion.
"Well, basing myself in his claims of 'bringing the world back to its prehistoric nature' I think he's going to try to recreate prehistoric creatures back to life, and there is one place to find prehistoric creatures…" Double D was explaining before being interrupted.
"An amusement park!" Ed exclaimed.
"Ed, that was only a movie. I'm talking about a museum, and what better place to go than Peach Creek's Museum of Natural History!" Double D declared.
"Peach Creek has a museum?" Eddy asked. Double D just stared at him in disbelief.
"Why, yes Eddy. Did your parents never take you there?" he asked. Now it was Eddy's turn to stare at him, his blank stare and silence an obvious answer. "Well, that's not important now. I suggest we get on the Garbage Speeder and move as quick as possible."
Later on, at Peach Creek's Museum of Natural History:
We see the Eds arrive on the Garbage Speeder driven by Double D. The three quickly got down and went to inspect the place, finding a huge hole in one of its walls, the size of say… a giant frog would make. Double D also found a big feather amongst the rubble, undoubtedly belonging to the giant bird.
"Something tells me were on the right track, gentlemen" he told his friends and the three entered the place.
Inside they didn't found much other than things you would normally see in a museum, like ancient fossils and exhibitions. However, Eddy also found a small box on the floor that read 'M Mart Electronics'. They followed the path and soon found Dr. Animo, seemingly working on and adjusting his Transmodulator. Animo turned around and saw the Eds arrive at the scene.
"I see you're back, kids. And you brought a friend with you. I have to say you are very persistent. I hate persistent!" he told them.
"Give up, Animo. We're here to st-" Eddy was saying as he looked at Dr. Animo, however he suddenly stopped and brought his hand to his mouth as he started making weird muffled sounds.
"Eddy? Something is wrong?" Double D asked his friend. Both Eds were looking at his friend in confusion, not knowing what was wrong, and even Dr. Animo had stopped talking and was watching him in silence expectantly. Suddenly, Eddy just burst into laughter.
"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" Eddy laughed loudly.
"Eddy?" Double D asked again.
"What's the meaning of this?!" Animo demanded in confusion.
Eddy finally seemed to regain his composure. "I-I'm-I'm sorry! I-It's just… you didn't say he had a strainer on his head! HAHAHAHAHA!" Eddy laughed.
Animo clenched his teeth in anger. "Fool! Soon you and the rest of the world will experience the genius of Doctor Animo in all its grandeur!" he declared.
"We know of your plot to control the world through reanimating dormant cells, Goblet! It is over!" Ed suddenly stated as he pointed his index finger at Animo, in a strange moment of clarity. Eddy and Double D just looked at him, surprised that Ed could even come to think of something like that.
"I see you're a smart boy" Animo said, the irony of who he was telling this to completely going past his head, though not so on Eddy and Double D, who looked at each other in confusion. "But it is has only just begun! Now with the components I needed, I have successfully upgraded my Transmodulator into phase 2 and can indeed reanimate dormant cells!"
"…Buttered toast!" Ed randomly exclaimed, all of his sudden smartness dropping completely.
"Can you translate what the wacko said, Sockhead?" Eddy asked Double D.
"He means he can bring back life which has long since been lifeless" Double D explained. "But that's impossible, you can't bring back the dead!" Double D exclaimed.
Animo only gave a wicked smile at this. "Well, I can now! Observe!" he said as he walked next to an exhibitory mammoth, before moving the hand on the plate in his chest and shooting a red beam of energy towards it. The energy started to surround the mammoth, whose fur started to turn into a darker color and grow a bit more, his eyes also turning red as it came back to life. "Behold the genius of Doctor Animo!" Animo exclaimed as he contemplated his new creation, before running towards another exhibition hall. The mammoth stood in between his path and the Eds, menacingly looking at them.
"E-Eddy, I th-think n-now wo-would be a g-good t-time f-for a hero…" Double D stuttered as he watched in fear another gigantic animal in front of him, but this time a prehistoric one to make things worse.
"No, duuuh!" Eddy stated as it was an obvious thing. "You and Lumpy go after Animo, I'll handle jumbo!" he exclaimed as he pressed the watch's dial and popped up the core, selecting one of the silhouettes in the hourglass symbol and slamming down the core in order to transform.
As a green light covered Eddy, his skin started turning into a reddish color while his muscles and veins started growing, him growing in size as well. A second pair of arms also came from out of his shirt, behind his actual arms, and a pair of yellow eyes appeared above his. When the light died down, Eddy had turned into a big bulky alien with red skin, big muscles, four yellows eyes and, most notably, four well-developed arms. He was twelve feet tall, being taller than most other transformations and had black stripe that goes from his chin to his lower lip. He wore a skintight yellow T-shirt with a red line going down it, skintight black pants, and black fingerless gloves. He wore the watch's symbol on his upper left shoulder.
'Eddy', now in his new form, looked at his huge muscles as he flexed them. "Oh yeah! I like this alien! I think I'm calling it… Four Arms!" he announced.
"Ehhh, four out of ten. Did you come up with that on your first try?" Ed questioned, clearly not a fan of the alien's new name.
"Shut up, Monobrow!" 'Eddy', now known as Four Arms in this form, told him. He then turned to look at the huge mammoth in front of them. "Let's wrestle, Manny!" he exclaimed as he charged at the prehistoric beast, who charged right back at him, the two clashing in the middle of the room as Four Arms grabbed it by its tusks and struggled to stop it.
Ed watched start struck as the two colossus tussled, but Double D brought him back to reality by toggling his jacket's sleeve and signaling for them to go after Animo like Eddy had told them. Ed sighed, unhappy with missing the battle between the behemoths, but nodded nonetheless and the two ran to the exhibition hall Animo had previously gone into. Once they got there, they found Animo standing in front of a perfectly assembled tyrannosaurus skeleton, ready to reanimate it.
"Stop!" Double D exclaimed upon seeing what Animo was about to do. "A scientist like you shouldn't be doing things like this, you should be using your technology to help people!" he tried to convince.
Animo just gave a wicked smile at the duo. "And who's going to stop me?" he retorted. "I would love to keep chatting about, but I need to claim the award I so richly deserve!" he exclaimed with a snap of his fingers.
After that signal, the giant bird broke through the skylight over them, landing in between and growling fiercely at the two Eds. Ed charged at the bird, taking it down with the two rolling and wrestling in the ground. However, that distraction was enough to give Animo the opportunity to activate his Transmodulator, shooting a red energy beam at the t-rex skeleton, which started regenerating its skin and coming back to life. By the time it was done, instead of where the skeleton had been moments ago, a full-fledged red-eyed living and roaring tyrannosaurus was standing. Although full-fledged may be an over extent, since there were chunks of skin missing throughout the creature's body and even its face, showing its flesh. It seemed that Animo's Transmodulator didn't have all the upgrades to restore the ancient creature back to its past glory. Still, Double D looked wide eyed at the prehistoric titan, unable to do anything to stop it.
Speaking of prehistoric creatures, Four Arms was still struggling to stop the revived mammoth, as he was sent crashing into a wall. He had to give it to the thing, it was tougher than it seemed. He got up and charged at it once more, punching its snout a couple times before trying to grab its tusk, however that didn't go well as the mammoth was able to throw him over its head, landing just on top of and completely destroying another t-rex skeleton.
"Man, I hope these dino bones aren't too expensive…" Four Arms muttered while still on the ground, looking around at the destruction he had caused. He then got up and glared at the mammoth. "You're going down, Peanuts!" he exclaimed as he waited for the mammoth to charge at him this time, once he got in the exact position he managed to catch it by its trunk, using its own momentum to lift it up and spin it around, before throwing it away. The mammoth was sent flying up so far that crashed through the museum's ceiling and landed outside the building.
"Alright… I'm gonna hurl!" Four Arms exclaimed, dizzy from all the spinning, as he covered his mouth with his two upper hands. He ended up running towards a nearby exhibition and puking in the caveman's cave. Just then, a huge living t-rex with Animo riding it went past him, walking through a wall and towards the city, leaving another huge hole behind. Double D came running behind them, keeping a safe distance from the mutant dinosaur. He stopped before the huge hole on the wall, as he watched the mad scientific and his creation escaping.
"Double D!" he heard Ed shouting behind. Double D turned around in time to see that Ed had lost his grip on the mutant bird, now simply holding to it by the feathers on its tail, and said bird flying straight towards him. He tried to move out of the way, but it was too late as the bird used its talons to catch him by his shoulders like a prey, taking to the air with him. Ed unfortunately lost his grip on the bird by the time they took up to the sky and fell to the ground, leaving a huge Ed shaped crater on it.
"Sockhead!" Four Arms exclaimed upon seeing his friend being taken by the mutant bird. He tried to chase after it, jumping far up to the sky, however just as he was about to catch the bird mid-air, the hourglass symbol on his shoulder started beeping and flashing the red light, transforming him back just as he fell to the ground, leaving another crater on it.
"Eddy!" Double D shouted desperately. Eddy got out of the crater, bruised and seeing stars, but thankfully not badly hurt since he had endured even worse falls than that. However, he soon snapped out of his dizziness when he heard Double D screaming as the giant bird took him.
"Double D!" Eddy exclaimed as he ran after the bird, however it was too late as it had already flew too far away. "Sockhead…" Eddy muttered as he dropped to his knees while watching them get lost in the distance.
Ed got out of the crater he was in, also bruised but less so than Eddy, although he was coughing the bird's feathers and a strange piece of paper he grabbed once he got up and looked at it. He then went to where Eddy was currently kneeling. "Eddy! Where's Double D?" he asked his friend, who didn't move from his position nor even turned around to look at him.
"They got him, Lumpy…" Eddy managed to say in a broken tone. "Double D… he was right, y'know? I was abusing my powers. I could have stopped this nutjob before if I hadn't been playing with the watch… before he mutated that stupid bird… before it took Double D…" Eddy sobbed, tears rolling down his eyes. "But I didn't, did I? I was just being selfish, plain old me… and now, Double D is in trouble, and it's my fault… some hero I am…"
His cries were soon interrupted by Ed grabbing him by his three hairs and lifting him up, turning him around so they were face to face. "Hey! What do you think you're doing?!" Eddy protested. Ed gave him no response, instead he looked at him with a serious expression, one Eddy hadn't seen many times before, and showed him a piece of paper he had to his face. "Is that…?" Eddy questioned as he grabbed the paper and looked at it. It seemed to be an article cut from a newspaper, which had a photo of Dr. Kelly accepting the Verities Award while shaking another man's hand, who seemed to be some other important scientific or something. However, what caught more his attention was the sights of a young Dr. Animo in the background, watching the other man receive the award instead of him. "Doctor Kelly receives the Verities Award…" Eddy read the title of the article aloud. "So, he's going after him!" he deduced upon reading.
"Double D said I was a hero… and he said the same about you" Ed told him. Eddy looked at him for a second, taking into account his words, before a look of determination just like Ed's came to his face.
"You're right, Lumpy. It's time to right my wrongs!" Eddy said as he cleaned his face, Ed finally releasing him as he got back on his feet.
"But Eddy, we have to save Double D first!" Ed said.
"If we stop Animo, we'll save Double D!" Eddy stated. "Come on, Lumpy. No time to lose!" he exclaimed as he started running towards the Garbage Speeder. Ed just looked at his friend for a moment, smiling as he was finally acting like an actual hero, before following.
Meanwhile in the middle of the city:
Here we can see people running and screaming as a giant T-rex marches through the city, destroying everything in his path as if it was one of those monster movies Ed was so fond of. Dr. Animo was still riding the mutant T-rex, enjoying every second of the mayhem he was causing. "I love my job!" he exclaimed.
In another part of the city, the giant bird was flying through the sky, with Double D still in its clutches. "Oh, let's be superheroes, Double D! Let's fight crime! What can possibly go wrong with that? What's next? A pit of snakes?!" Double D said with sarcasm while still trapped in the bird's talons. Suddenly, the giant bird flew towards a skyscraper, perching on top of it and releasing Double D, who managed to hold on to the top for dear life. "Oh my…" Double D said as he looked down, several meters above the ground. However, he suddenly remembered something and went to search for it on his pocket. He managed to get a cell phone his parents had given him out of it. "Father said I could only use it for emergencies… if this isn't one, then I don't know what it is…" Double D reasoned as he started dialing a number.
Meanwhile with Eddy and Ed:
Here we can see Ed driving the Garbage Speeder while Eddy is perched on his shoulders, looking at the sky in the distance as he tries to find the giant bird that took Double D. "I'll tell you, how can a giant bird be so hard to find?" Eddy questioned as he continued looking for it, having flashbacks from when he was looking around for a regular sized bird that had taken his quarter.
Suddenly, something on Ed's pocket started vibrating and making sounds. "My pockets are hungry!" Ed exclaimed. Eddy looked down at Ed's pocket before realizing what it was.
"No, Monobrow, it's your cell phone!" Eddy informed, having remembered he was the only one whose parents hadn't gotten him a cell phone yet. He had asked them for one after Ed's parents had given one to him for his birthday, but his parents had say they couldn't afford it. He got down from Ed's shoulders and put his hand in his pocket, searching for the phone. After having to touch many slimy and sticky things, Eddy managed to get Ed's cell phone from a bunch of fluff in disgust. He dusted some fluff off the phone before reading who the ID caller was. "It's Double D!" Eddy exclaimed as he answered the call. "Sockhead?"
"Eddy? You have to come get me now!" Double D exclaimed in fear as he continued to look down from the skyscraper.
"Where are you?" Eddy asked.
"The skyscraper in the middle of the city. Please get here soon! I'm starting to get vertigo!"
"Ed, it's the other way around!" Eddy informed as Ed did a U-turn. "Hang in there pal, we're coming!" he told Double D through the phone.
"That's exactly what I'm doing, Eddy…" Double D answered as he used both hands to hold to the skyscraper's top, resting the phone in his ear, although it slipped out and fell all the way to the ground, breaking into a pieces. This scared Double D even more.
"Double D?" Eddy asked as he heard the deadline sound. "Ed, we need to go faster!" Eddy informed as he set the Garbage Speeder to max speed so they could get there as soon as possible. They had to dodge a few cars and do a few turns on the way, but managed to get there on time.
As they stopped and Eddy got off the vehicle, he saw the remains of Double D's cell phone scattered over the street concrete. He looked up to the top and saw the giant bird perched on the skyscraper, and managed to distinguish a small figure which seemed to be Double D holding on. "Oh no, Double D is next! We have to do something!" Eddy exclaimed worriedly.
"But Eddy, I can't fly!" Ed responded.
Eddy looked at his watch, which just then turned back to its green color, as if approving of Eddy's idea and deeming him worthy of using it again. "You may don't, but I certainly can!" Eddy said with a smirk as he pressed the dial, popped up the core and selected the silhouette of a giant insect. He slammed down the core and a green light engulfed him. Inside the light, Eddy's skin started turning to a green color, his eyes turning yellow and sticking out of his face like an insect's eyes, an identical pair of eyes appearing under them. His body started shaping into a different, more insect-like form, with four insect-like legs coming from his abdominal area, a stinger tail coming at the end of his back, and two big insect wings coming from his back.
When the light faded away, Eddy had transformed into a four eyed bug like creature, with four insect-like flat legs and two human-like arms whose hands had three clawed fingers. He also had light green wings and his limbs were a brown-greenish color. He wore a yellow sleeveless jumpsuit with red lining which covered most of his body including his head and tail, his hands had a red coloration similar to gloves, and his eyes were pedunculated and of a yellowish-orange color. These eyes were linked directly to the sides of his huge head. He also had the hourglass symbol on his forehead.
"It's hero time!" 'Eddy' exclaimed as he took off flying, just in time as well, as when the giant bird saw him coming, it took off flying too, the gust of wind made by its wings making Double D lose his grip on the skyscraper and falling down. Luckily, 'Eddy' was there in time to catch him.
Double D opened his eyes, sure of his impending demise, only to find that instead of falling down he was flying upwards. He turned his head around and saw he was being held by a huge bug-like creature, immediately recognizing who it was. "Butterfly?" he asked, trying to remember the name of this transformation.
"Stinkfly, actually" informed 'Eddy', now in this form known as Stinkfly, as he remembered the name Ed had given this alien upon seeing it for the first time.
"I can tell why!" Double D exclaimed in disgust as he pitched his nose, being held close by Stinkfly he could actually smell the odor coming from his arm pits, a smell so disgusting in fact could rival Ed's own, he would tell.
"I should stop letting Lumpy name this things…" Stinkfly muttered as he kept flying with Double D in arms, trying to lower down to the ground. However, they soon heard a familiar sound behind, as they saw the giant bird coming towards them. They managed to avoid it, but the bird did a U-turn and kept going after them. Stinkfly managed to dodge it each time, but he couldn't fight back with Double D in tow or else he risked dropping him by accident. Ed watched from the ground as his two friends were chase by the mutant bird, unable to do anything about it. However, in a rare moment of his, an idea struck his mind, as he entered the skyscraper building and started running upstairs.
"Man, I hate birds!" Stinkfly exclaimed as he kept fleeing from the giant bird flying after them.
"I think I'm going to be sick!" Double D said as he covered his mouth and his face turned green.
"Spew on me, Sockhead, and you better learn to fly quickly!" Stinkfly threatened. Suddenly, his four eyes caught sight of something as he saw Ed rear his lump head from an open window in the middle of the building, waving at him frenetically. He immediately got the message. "Hold on, Sockhead!" he said as he started flying quickly towards Ed, the mutant bird behind them. Double D couldn't help but scream at the sudden velocity increase in their flying. "Trust me!" Stinkfly told him.
"Trust you?!" Double D questioned in disbelief, however Stinkfly suddenly dropped him mid-air and flew down past him. "AAAAAAAH!" Double D screamed in terror, sure of his impending demise for like the third or fourth time that day, he really had lost all account at this moment. Luckily for him, it was just another close call as Ed managed to catch him by his hat, Double D sticking to the hat like it was glued to his head.
"Gotcha Buckaroo!" Ed said as he pulled him from his hat into safe arms and took him in through the window. However, as he did that, they saw the mutant bird flying straight towards them with open talons. Their eyes widened in fear, but Stinkfly soon came flying from behind the bird and spewed goop out of its eyes and into the bird's wings, sticking them and rendering it unable to fly. He then tackled the bird into the building and dropped it to the ground.
"I'll go get Animo, you guys watch birdie down there and catch up!" Stinkfly told Ed and Double D as he flew near their window, then took off into the sky.
Meanwhile at Kelly's Industries:
Here we can see Dr. Kelly, the man shown in the photography of the article Ed had found, giving two other men in suits a tour through the installations of his industry. They soon came to a stop in front of a trophy showcase.
"And here is my Verities Award, of course it was an honor to be nominated along a distinct group of scientifics…" Kelly said as he showed them said trophy. Suddenly they heard a strong commotion coming from outside, followed by a rampaging T-Rex coming through one of the walls, with none other than Dr. Animo riding it.
"Kelly, I think you got something that's mine…" Animo declared as the other two guys made a run for it. He leaped off the T-Rex and went to grab the trophy from the showcase. "I want to thank the committee!" Animo declared as he lifted up the trophy. Kelly just watched in fear at the living dinosaur stood in front of him, unable to do anything. Suddenly, an insect-like creature came flying through the hole made by the T-Rex and smacked it in the mouth.
"What are you, you little pest?" Animo questioned as he got back on the T-Rex's back.
"The name is Stinkfly, and I'm here to kick some tail!" Stinkfly announced as he charged at the T-Rex, however said tail smacked him to the side, sending him crashing into a wall so hard that even the jar of money he had on his pocket was sent flying into a pile of rubble. "My cash!" Stinkfly exclaimed upon seeing his precious money jar in the middle of the rubble. He was about to take it back when he heard screams.
"Someone help me!" Dr. Kelly shouted as the T-Rex grabbed him with his mouth, ready to eat him. Stinkfly looked back at the money jar, realizing what was happening. Suddenly, Double D and Ed's words came to his mind and, reluctantly, he realized what he had to do.
"Oh man, this hero job ain't easy!" he exclaimed as he took a last glance at the money jar, before flying off to save Kelly, the money jar getting buried in the debris due to the gust. Just as the T-Rex threw Kelly into the air and opened its mouth, Stinkfly managed to grab Kelly before he fell inside it.
Animo used his Transmodulator to shoot a red energy beam at him, however Stinkfly managed to dodge it, still carrying Kelly on his arms, and carefully dropped him on the ground so he could be safe before charging back at Animo and the T-Rex. He then spewed goop into the T-Rex's eyes, temporarily blinding it, before shooting a slime thread at the Verities Award on Animo's hands, pulling it out and grabbing the award midair.
"No! My award! Give it back!" Animo demanded.
Stinkfly flied towards him with the award in his hand. "You want it? Then take it!" Stinkfly exclaimed as he used the award to smash Animo's Transmodulator on his head, breaking the award into pieces but also making him fall out of the T-Rex's back and into the ground. Stinkfly grabbed the Transmodulator out of Animo's head and smashed it into the ground.
"Nooo! My Transmodulator!" Animo exclaimed in horror after seeing Stinkfly destroy his creation, which sent a red pulse of energy all around the city. Soon, that same red energy started appearing around the T-Rex's body, its skin starting to revert back into bones until it had gone back to being a skeleton, which crumbled into the ground and over Animo in a pile of dust.
Meanwhile with Ed and Double D:
Here we can see Ed and Double D had gotten out of the building and are watching over the fallen mutant bird, which is unconscious at the minute. "I hope Eddy is okay…" Double D said worriedly as they kept waiting for a sign of their friend.
Suddenly, the red pulse of energy went past them, and they saw the same red energy appearing around the mutant bird, which began shrinking until it returned to its original size and regained the innocent look it had before. The bird, seemingly recovered, flew and perched on Ed's head.
"Hahaha! Watch the birdie, Double D!" Ed laughed as he looked at the bird upon his head, founding it rather cute.
"Please Ed, I don't have anything against birds like Eddy does, but that particular one captured me, tried to eat me, and almost got me killed twice at least" Double D told him, showing obvious discomfort at the sight of the bird.
"You heard that, birdie? Double D likes you!" Ed told the bird, which chirped as a response.
Meanwhile at the Construction Site:
Here we can see many police cars around as the police had marked the perimeter around the area where the mutant ferret is, still under the debris and the steamroller. A police officer is talking to a man in a suit, who is the owner of the Construction Site.
"And as you can see sir, we came here as soon as we could. We don't know what's happening, we've been receiving calls about these mutant animals all day. A lot of people have seen a giant bird flying over the sky in multiple locations, others have seen a giant frog leaping across the city, there's been heavy damage done to the Natural History Museum, and you won't believe this, people have been reporting about an actual dinosaur rampaging throughout the city!" the officer finished explaining.
"All I want to know is who's going to pay for the damages done to my precious Construction Site! And what's that thing under my steamroller?!" the owner questioned.
"Well, from what I can tell it's a ferret, and it definitely has to be one of these mutant animals we keep hearing about" the officer responded. Suddenly, the same red pulse of energy passed and then they saw the ferret get covered by a red aura as it began shrinking, before disappearing under the debris. Soon, a regular sized ferret came out of it, walking past them like any regular animal, to the disbelief of both men.
"What the hell is going on?!" the owner asked.
"Hey, Terrence!" the officer's partner called from one of the cars. "We have to go, there are reports about a T-Rex on Kelly's Industries!"
Later on Kelly's Industries:
Here we can see that it's almost dawn, the police have arrived and two officers are escorting a handcuffed Dr. Animo to one of their cars. The Eds are watching the scene close by, with Eddy having return to his human form before the police arrived.
"Let me go! I deserve that award! I want it! I want it!" Animo cried as he was taken by the police.
"Does that sound familiar to you, Eddy?" Double D asked his friend as their heard Animo's desperate cries. Eddy just turned away his eyes, not wanting to look at the scene anymore. Animo's words definitely sounded familiar to him, and he knew Double D was right. He had been selfish and abused his powers, he nearly crossed a line that would have made him just like Animo.
As Animo was taken away in a police car, the Eds approached Dr. Kelly who was being attended by some medics that had also come to the scene. Luckily, he hadn't suffered any injuries.
"I'm really sorry about your Verities Award, Doctor Kelly" Double D apologized indirectly.
"Don't worry son, the award wasn't really that important. The real honor was to have earned it, and the work done in order to do so" Dr. Kelly told them.
Eddy smiled upon hearing this. "You know what? You're right doc."
"All I would like to know is what was that bug creature that saved me?" Kelly wondered.
"Well, we saw it flying away as we were passing by" Eddy lied. "Tell you what, if we ever see it again, we'll thank it for you" he said with a smile.
Later on Ed's house:
Here we can see the Eds are back on Ed's room, with Double D leaving a box over the table that contains the remains of Animo's Transmodulator, which Eddy had been able to take before the police arrived and took it as evidence, so no one could use it for evil deeds again and besides Double D wanted to study this technology.
"No one should use this technology with evil intentions, but maybe I can study and use it for a better cause" Double D thought aloud as he looked at the Transmodulator.
"Hey, Double D" he suddenly heard Eddy's voice behind him. He turned around to see Eddy, hands in his pocket, head down and still not looking at him in his eyes, using his foot to make a circle around the floor. "Yes, Eddy?"
"…You were right, I was being selfish with the watch, I put you and Ed in danger for being irresponsible… and I'm sorry" Eddy managed to say with all his might, finally looking at him in the eye as he did so.
Double D stood silent for a minute, before giving Eddy a warm smile. "I'm glad you learned the lesson this time, Eddy. And don't worry, I'm not mad at you, for you did the right thing in the end and that's what counts. Besides, you did save my life…" Double D told him.
Eddy smiled back. "Yeah, I guess that's what superheroes do… save geeks!" he joked.
"Haha. Very funny, Eddy. But if you're going to mock me for my intellect, then you should use the word 'nerd' since 'geek' is someone who likes comics" Double D informed.
"Do you ever turn off?" Eddy questioned.
"It's a curse, I'm afraid…" Double D retorted and the two friends shared a wholeheartedly laugh after the tense moment they previously had.
"Hey guys!" Ed decided that moment to rear his head through the door. "Look who I got with me" Ed said as he entered his room with the bird, which on closer look is a cockatiel, perched on his arm.
"Ed, what are you doing with that thing?" Eddy asked.
"Did you forget the talk we had about it?" Double D questioned as he hid behind Eddy, still not comfortable around that particular bird. Eddy merely looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Nope, we have a new member on our team!" Ed exclaimed as he showed them the cockatiel. "Say hello to Nestor Jr!"
The cockatiel, now named Nestor Jr, chirped in response, as if presenting itself.
"Man, I really hate birds…" Eddy commented with Double D still hiding behind his back.
Aaaand that's chapter 2 for ya, hope you enjoyed it and as always leave a review telling me what you think of it. Now, here's some trivia about this chapter.
Trivia:
1) The title and plot of this chapter are based on the original Ben 10 series episode "Washington B.C.", despite the action not really happening on Washington D.C. in this one.
2) The scene of Eddy using XLR8 and leaving Sarah and Jimmy hanging from a tree is based on the final scene of Ben 10's pilot episode, and I decided to include it on this chapter since I didn't put it in the last one on which it was based.
3) Dr. Animo being inspired to complete his Transmodulator by the recent appearances of aliens is actually taken from the original Ben 10's cannon, at least according to the B10 wiki, I just took it and decided to expand on it. Also, yeah Animo's landlord in that episode is actually named Roger.
4) The Hardware Store and Underwood's Pet Shop are actual stores on EENE seen in different episodes.
5) I know it was a hamster rather than a ferret in the actual episode, but I decided to make it one as a reference to a popular fan series concept called "Ed, Edd n Eddy High School", you probably heard of it on the EENE wiki or at least seen some fanart online, in which Eddy has a pet ferret called 'Teddy'. The original idea was for Ed to get the ferret as a mascot and name him that, but I decided to switch to the bird based on how the plot was going, plus ferrets are also sold as mascots, right? I actually had to do some research on what ferrets do and eat, so please tell me if I made any mistake coz I would hate to get my ferret's facts wrong!
6) The Garbage Speeder (or Garbage Scooter) is taken from the EENE episode "Don't Rain On My Ed" and some dialogue is also taken from that same episode.
7) Yep, I did a Jojo's reference in case you were wondering.
8) Ed naming his pet bird Nestor Jr. is based on one of the seagulls he kept under his bed as seen in the episode "Ready, Set... Ed!" which was actually named Nestor. As I mentioned I was going to give him the ferret and called it Teddy, but decided to give him the bird instead and thought that name didn't work anymore so I changed it. Other names I thought of were Eddo, Edge, Edger, Edmund and Nestor II.
