Beck and Jade don't say anything to anyone about the pregnancy at first. Although she takes a test and the results are positive, they want to confirm with a doctor before they start making announcements. It's also recommended to wait until the second trimester to tell anyone, as the chances of losing the pregnancy go way down.

The first visit to the doctor tells them that everything looks exactly as it should, and that the baby is due in mid-February. Both of them are absolutely elated, although Jade is a bit nervous because of the experience she had in college. Beck assures her that this time will be different, that her pregnancy back then hadn't been meant to be...and this one is.

Still, Jade spends most of the summer taking all of the precautions that she can to make sure that nothing happens to the baby. Thankfully her symptoms are mild, she has a bought of morning sickness here and there, but nothing too horrible...and nothing that she can't easily excuse to Aspen or Chelsea when they ask. Sudden fatigue? Didn't sleep well last night. Random bought of morning sickness? The leftover Chinese food she had for lunch must've gone bad, they should throw the rest of it out so no one else gets sick too.

Although she manages well, Jade finds herself breathing much easier once Chelsea's ninth birthday passes and she enters her second trimester. Not only are there less chances of something going wrong now, she also doesn't have to keep the secret for much longer. Beck and Jade know the first two, and arguably the most important, people they have to tell first.

"Is this about my new school?" Chelsea asks as she flops down on the couch "Because I told you, I'm not nervous. I'm great at making friends!"

"We know you are, kiddo." Beck chuckles as he sits down on the coffee table across from her and Aspen "No, this isn't about your new school."

"Is it about Aspen's new school?"

Now that she's three, Aspen will start attending a half-day preschool program three days a week. She'll also start at a new daycare, closer to their new house, with a bus that will pick her up from school on the days that she attends and bring her back to their building until Jade can pick her up in the afternoon.

"No." Jade laughs as she sits down beside Beck "We have some belated birthday presents for you two, and we wanted you to open them together."

With both of them having summer birthdays, it was an easy excuse to make to set up the conversation they're about to have.

"What does 'belated' mean?" Chelsea asks

"Late."

"Oh." She nods "Were they backordered?"

"Something like that." Jade smirks, exchanging a glance with her husband "Here, you can open them."

She hands a box to each of the girls, then grabs Beck's hand and laces their fingers together as they watch.

"Who are they from?" Aspen asks as she rips at the paper

"They're from us." Beck tells her, then lowers his voice to speak to Jade "Should we be recording this?"

"Way ahead of you." She winks, gesturing to her phone that is propped against a cup beside her and recording everything

"Big sister." Chelsea reads the text off of the white t-shirt as she pulls it out of the box "This is cute. What did you get Pen?"

"I got a shirt too!" Aspen cheers, holding up her own shirt "We match!"

"Well yeah but yours probably says...wait..." Chelsea's eyes grow wide as she reads the text on her younger sister's shirt "Yours says 'big sister' too! Mom?"

"What's up, Chels?"

"Are you..." Chelsea gasps "Are you having a baby?"

"I certainly am." Jade grins "You're going to have another little sister or brother in February."

"Apsen!" Chelsea exclaims "Mom is having a baby! You're going to be a big sister!"

"I'm a big sister?" Aspen squeals "Really?"

"Really!" Beck nods "Isn't that exciting?"

"I'm excited!"

"We need you to wear those shirts to dinner at Grandma and Grandpa's tomorrow night." Beck explains "Okay? But you're not allowed to tell them anything. We want to see how long it takes them to notice."

"It's a secret?"

"Kind of, but just for a little while."

"Can the baby hear me?" Chelsea asks, kneeling on the ground in front of Jade "Hello? Little baby? Are you in there?"

"It's in there, I promise." Jade laughs placing a hand on Chelsea's head "It can't hear us quite yet, but soon. So if we keep talking to her or him, eventually they'll be able to hear us loud and clear."

"I'm so excited." Chelsea giggles "I can't wait to have a baby around again!"

"How's it going over there, Pen?" Beck asks his younger daughter, who now looks more confused than excited "You okay?"

"Will I still be your baby?" Aspen looks a bit sad

"Of course you will." Jade assures her, moving off of the coffee table to sit next to her on the couch "No matter how old you get, or how many siblings you have...you'll always be my baby. All three of you."

"Okay." Aspen nods "Good."

"We're going to need your help, Pen." Beck tells her, sitting on her opposite side from Jade "Babies need a lot of things done for them, and you're such a good helper."

"I am." Aspen agrees with a smile

"Get over here, Chels." Beck waves his oldest over to the couch again "Let's have a group hug!"

"Alright." Chelsea rolls her eyes with a smirk, then sits down beside Jade

In that moment, Beck and Jade are both thinking about how lucky they are that things went well. They both knew that Chelsea would be excited, but Aspen had been a toss up. It's never easy for the youngest to go from being the baby one minute, to a middle child the next. They're going to have to proceed with caution for the next six months or so, but hopefully Aspen's thoughts about the baby stay positive.

"I love you girls." Jade says, pressing a kiss to the top of each of their heads "You're going to be the best big sisters."

Between the school year starting and her having to return to work and Chris's having to help her brother move into his dorm at University of Arizona, it had been hard for Jade to find a time to call and tell her step-father her and Beck's good news. Finally, the Saturday afternoon of Labor Day weekend, she's able to get him on the phone.

"Hey there!" He answers "How's my girl?"

"I'm good." Jade admits "How are you? How did things go moving Tyler in?"

"Good, good." Chris responds "Got him all in and ready to go, he seems to get along with his roommate. I think he's off to a great start."

"That's great to hear." Jade smiles "I'm going to try to call him later tonight to check in."

And to tell him that he's going to have a new niece or nephew, but Chris doesn't need to know that part yet.

"I bet he'd like that." Chris tells her "So to what do I owe the pleasure of your call? Or are you just saying 'hey'?"

"It's a little of both, honestly." Jade tells him "I wanted to say 'hey' because it's been a while since we talked with school starting and everything, but there's also something I wanted to tell you."

"Which would be?"

"I'm going to send you a video, okay?" Jade tells him as she texts the video of Chelsea and Aspen opening their 'big sister' shirts to him "Watch it while you're still on the phone with me, then tell me what you think."

"Seems like a surprise." Chris laughs

"Might be."

"It just came through." He tells her "I'm watching it now."

Jade waits in silence, waiting for any sort of reaction on Chris's end of the call to indicate what his feelings may or may not be.

"Jade...is this real?" He asks her "Are you really...?"

"I am, yeah." Jade smiles "He or she will be here around February 16th."

"Oh my god, wow..." Chris gasps "When you said you had something to tell me, this isn't at all what I was expecting."

"I hope that's okay?"

"S'more than okay." He assures her "I'm so happy for you, Jade. Your mom would be so happy for you too."

"Yeah." Jade agrees "I know she's up there right now grinning from ear to ear."

"She definitely is." Chris affirms "Wow, she'd be so excited to be a grandma...she would be the best grandma."

"You're going to be the best grandpa." Jade assures him "Or Papa...or whatever you want to be called."

"I think I kind of like Papa." Chris admits "That's what Chelsea has started calling me...I think the way it sounds."

"Papa it is then." Jade smiles

"I love you, Jade." Chris tells her "I'm so proud of you and everything that you've done. You're already such a great mom to those girls, I know it will be the same with this baby."

"Thank you, Chris. I love you too."

"Maybe we should have waited a bit longer to tell Cat..." Jade chuckles as she looks down at her phone "I mean, we don't even know the gender yet and she's already gone...overboard."

"Overboard how?" Beck asks as they walk up the stairs to the second floor of their house

"Overboard like, the kid already has an entire wardrobe." Jade tells him, turning the phone so her husband can see the picture of all of the baby clothes her friend has purchased "Look at this!"

"She's just excited." Beck assures her "And she works in fashion. It's kinda her thing."

"That's true, I guess." Jade nods as she slides her phone into her pocket "Alright, why are we up here?"

"I want to show you something." Beck nods towards the room that will eventually become the nursery "Come on, this way."

Jade isn't sure what exactly her husband could have to show her in the baby's room, it's been empty since they moved in. Originally they thought they would use it for storage for a few months, until they had a purpose for it. But then Jade got pregnant much sooner than they expected, so they opted to just keep it empty in order to avoid having to re-home things later.

"Close your eyes." Beck tells her, reaching for the doorknob

"Are you serious?"

"Yes..."

"Alright." Jade obliges "They're closed."

"Okay...the door is open. Keep them closed! Take a few steps in..." He guides her "A few more...a few more...okay! Stop! Alright, you can open them now."

As Jade opens her eyes, she isn't really sure where she should be looking at first. Then she focuses on the object in front of her, and can hardly believe what she's seeing.

"Beck..." She gasps, reaching for her husband's hand "Did...did you build this?"

"I did, yeah." Beck grins "What do you think?"

"It's beautiful..." Jade admits "I love it."

A hand-crafted crib is sitting in the middle of the room. Beck had put in a few extra hours over the course of the past few weeks, and then brought it home on his lunch break earlier that day to surprise Jade. He loves building things and working with his hands, that's why he had made a career out of it. He's even more proud to have made something for their child...something that will get more than it's fair share of use.

"Do you think the baby will like it?"

"The baby already loves it too." Jade assures him, resting a hand on her abdomen

She's four months now, and just barely starting to show. As long as whatever shirt she's wearing isn't super tight, most people can't even tell that she's pregnant.

"I'm glad you like it, little one." Beck presses a kiss to the same area where Jade is resting her hand "I can't wait to bring you home so you can sleep in it."
