Situation: Meredith discovers she is pregnant

While I was preparing for surgery, I became nauseous. I vomited in a nearby trashcan. A stomach
virus and a fainting spell kept me out of the operating room. This is not how I imagined my first day
at work would go. Adding to my health problems, my period had been late. It never crossed my
mind that I was pregnant until Arizona told me. Derek was shocked but happy about becoming
a father again for the fourth time. Our good news delighted Bailey, Ellis, and Zora.

Situation: Derek and Meredith (seven months pregnant) discover Joy will be born with missing limbs
Derek's p.o.v
The gender of our fourth child turned out to be girl. I wanted Bailey to have a brother, but I was
glad Ellis and Zora had a playmate. Meredith and I didn't know what to name our daughter until
we visited Arizona for a check up. After many tests, Arizona concluded our daughter
would be born with missing limbs. Her prognosis broke our hearts. "Count it all joy" I
encouraged my emotional wife. "We should name her Joy" Meredith suggested.
