Chapter 4

"Good morning, Nicole" A voice woke her up wet lips were pressed to her forehead. For a moment Arizona had no idea where she was, her hands went to wipe the moisture off her head and rub her eyes open, but her hands weren't moving something cold was around her wrist restraining her.

The memories came back sluggishly, Graham, Jell-O moulds. Her eyes opened, she was tied to the trolley, dressed in scrubs covered with a blanket that had been tucked in. When had he changed her? She felt cleaner dried blood no longer stuck to her skin, had he washed her? Suddenly Arizona felt dirty and more vulnerable that anything he'd done before, the aching pain between her legs and deep inside made her think she'd been raped more than the one time she remembered it hurt more than it did before she'd fallen asleep. What had happened? How long had she been held here for?

"I realised my problem, there is only so much you can learn from moulds, we need real pregnant women."

"No" Arizona cried, fighting her restraints guessing where he was going with this train of thought. The restraints didn't budge.

"Time for you to get up, I rang the hospital got your surgical list's for the next few days, I told them you were off sick, I also texted Callie she knows your unwell and isn't expecting you to call." Graham released her wrist handcuff holding it tightly. Moving the cuff onto her ankle attaching her to the bed. He left her other hand cuffed to the bed. Then he left the room walking in with a pregnant lady handcuffed with a bag covering her head. He dragged her onto the bed securing her wrists with rope before lifting the bag revealing her face.

Arizona recognised her immediately, Margaret Jenkins she was due for a TRAP. It was a complex procedure done with ultrasound and specialist equipment. None of which was obvious in this room. Still, she had no choice,

"Maggie, I'm so sorry," Arizona cried using her free hand to hold Maggie's.

"Dr Robbins, what am I doing here? Are you okay?"

"This is Dr Herman, not Doctor Robbins, Dr Robbins is dead" Graham screamed, grabbing the scalpel lifting it to stab Maggie. Arizona placed her hand in the way trying to deescalate the situation.

"Graham she is confused, please" Arizona begged trying to talk him down, "Let me do the pre-op."

"This is Dr Maddox, he is a fellow who has arranged for us to operate here today." Arizona smiled trying to reassure Maggie knowing she was failing miserably but trying to encourage her to play along. They were both handcuffed against their will and instead of one of the best equipped hospitals they were in a run-down clinic with limited equipment. "Dr Maddox have you prepared the equipment what do we need?" Arizona asked.

"We need" he began

"Actually, don't tell me, just get everything ready while I consent her" Arizona ordered. Graham left the room,

"I am so sorry Maggie, I have no idea, he has lost it Dr Herman fired him, he wasn't doing well in his fellowship, he is convinced I'm Dr Herman. I will try get you out, you both out" Arizona promised, "If you get free turn left, follow the corridor down about 6 doors, there is one open a green exit sign above it, there's a fire escape. That's as far as I got, get to there don't look back. Don't wait for me, if you get the chance run" Arizona ordered "For you and your baby,"

Maggie nodded. Graham returned with an ultrasound and a surgical tray. It had everything she needed. Arizona took a breath; she had a choice she could do the surgery, or he would. If Graham operated, it was likely Maggie and the baby would both die. If she refused, he was likely to do it anyway. She prayed to God to anyone that this would work that she could pull this off.

"Dr Maddox, prepare the local anaesthesia please while I canulate" Arizona ordered hoping she was doing the right thing. "Maggie you are going to need to keep really still while I operate, I have this, I will look after you both" Arizona promised.

"Okay Graham lets scrub in" Arizona ordered Graham nodded going to the sink. "Graham I need to scrub" Arizona told him. Graham nodded undoing both sets of handcuffs. Arizona knew she couldn't run, not with Maggie on the table and there was no way she could take Graham out, find the keys, uncuff Maggie and get away.

Arizona began before scrubbing by cleaning Maggie's stomach and carefully draping the surgical field. This was normally done before she entered. Then she went to the sink scrubbing her hands. Graham was waiting with her surgical gown and gloves. Before he dressed himself.

"Okay Graham, what's the first step?" Arizona asked, as the procedure began. He took her through it remembering nearly every step, Arizona let him hold the scope, while she placed the probe.

"Okay Maggie we are cutting the connection between your baby and the mass now" she said making the cut. "Nice and still"

Completing the procedure Arizona breathed a sigh of relief. They'd done it both Maggie and her baby were going to be okay.

"We did it, your baby is healthy, good fetal trace. You should carry to nearly full term and deliver both the baby and the mass either naturally or via c-section" Arizona ordered thanking whatever higher power for helping her through.

"I'll take her to post op" Graham offered slickly handcuffing Arizona back to the bed. Before easily lifting the handcuffed women off the table carrying Maggie out of the room.

"Graham where are you taking her, Graham bring her back, don't hurt her" Arizona screamed after him, again trying to escape the handcuffs. Now the procedure was done she could only pray he kept them alive,

The door shut. Arizona knew he'd be back, with another one of her pregnant patients. She had to escape, she had to get help, call the police. This was her chance. The cuff was slightly loose, Graham too distracted to tighten the handcuffs. This was her chance, get out the handcuffs, find Maggie and escape before Graham brought back anyone else.

The ultrasound lube had been left just in reach, she used on her hand applying a liberal amount before trying to squeeze her hand through, it worked as she managed to get it free. Going to the door Arizona listened and couldn't hear anything. Risking everything, she opened it, the corridor was empty.

Quietly as she could Arizona made her way up the corridor checking each door, it was the second one she came to that was slightly ajar. Inside Maggie lay on a stretcher unconscious a propofol drip running. She was breathing for herself. Arizona stopped the drip, hoping it would wake her up, knowing there was no time to wait for Maggie to wake up she took the breaks off intending to push the trolley out the hospital with her to freedom, before realising something else. In the room was a phone. Arizona lifted it hearing a dial tone. She pressed the numbers 911.

"9-11 which service do you require?" a polite voice came over the phone, Arizona could have cried with relief, help!

"Police,"

"Police emergency line, how can we help?"

"My name is Dr Arizona Robbins, I have been kidnapped, drugged, I am being held hostage with one of my patients Margaret Jenkins in some old hospital building I have no idea where we are."

"Are you safe?" the operate asked, Arizona could hear typing

"No, I don't know where Graham is, Graham Maddox. I used to work with him at Grey Sloan hospital. I think he is out searching for my next patient; it will be someone I was booked to operate on," Arizona paused trying to remember her lists of who she was meant to operate in the next few days her mind drawing a blank.

"Look contact Miranda Bailey chief at Grey Sloan, she'll give you, my list."

"Okay, we'll get on that, do you know where you are?" the voice was calm, even though Arizona's anxiety was building up, she might get out, Maggie might get out.

"No, I think we are still near Seattle, I was drugged, he put me in the boot of his car, it's a green truck."

"Okay can you see anything out the window?"

"There are no windows in this room. I made it to the door once, all I saw was trees and car park. I'm sorry" Arizona apologised, "It's a landline so I can go look for a window," she offered

"No stay on the line, we are working on tracing it." The operator said. Arizona nodded shaking, if Graham found her before the police did, she was terrified to find out what he would do.

"Are either of you hurt?" the operate asked, Arizona nodded,

"Maggie, I had to operate on her and her baby she is 25 weeks, under local but now she is under general I guess Graham must have done it, I reduced her sedation she should be waking up soon. She needs monitoring, I did a fetal trap. It went well they should be okay, they should be fine," Arizona babbled, her hands shaking

"And you Arizona? How are you?" the operate sounded sympathetic. Arizona couldn't reply, how could she sum up how she felt how she was after the last few days?

"I'm fine" she replied, ignoring the blood dripping down her arms or the bruising to her face, arms, back, legs, the bite marks on her neck, breasts, and thighs. Footsteps echoed down the corridor; Arizona's heart dropped.

"He's back" she whispered.

"Can you get anywhere safe?" the dispatcher asked, Arizona looked around, even if she could Maggie couldn't and she wasn't going to leave her.

"No," Arizona's voice trembled, "There is nowhere safe"

She let go of the handset leaving it off the hook, so the police could continue to track the call.

The door opened as soon as she moved away, Arizona stood in front of Maggie who hadn't stirred. Graham was there.

"Graham I was just checking on our post op" Arizona lied. He stormed over, hand out slapping her hard. It hit her hard on the head sending her flying. She hit the side of the worktop and felt blinding pain in her head. Then nothing.

Arizona woke finding herself upside down hanging off someone's shoulder, again. Her head hurt, blood was dripping into her vision. She was being carried roughly she was dropped off the shoulder onto the floor. Her worse fears confirmed as another one of her patients was tied to the trolley. Hannah Blund, 24 weeks, needing a Fetoscopic Spina Bifida Repair. It was a complex procedure, one of the newer more innovative procedures that she did, normally with Amelia or another a neurosurgeon assisting. It was a procedure she had done 10 times, only 6 times it had gone smoothly, 3 she'd ended up delivering the baby, and 1 she had lost the baby on.

"No" Arizona cried, her hopes of not operating on another one of her patients in less-than-ideal conditions fading fast. She had hoped the police would be here by now, but the operator hadn't managed to track her. She could only hope Bailey co-operated with the police and the rest of her patients would be safe.

"We have our next patient Dr Herman, we have a very punishing schedule over 50 different surgeries in 4 months." Graham said, "I'll start the anaesthetises you can prep the patient" he ordered,

"Dr Robbins?" Hannah cried,

"Hannah, I promise I will do everything in my power to make sure you both come through this" Arizona promised holding Hannah's hand tightly as she went to sleep. Graham swiftly intubated.

"Graham, I need to scrub" she begged as he stopped her going to the sink.

"Dr Herman I will be performing this surgery solo. You will watch" Graham ordered.

"No, not Hannah, this is risky Graham this is really risky, we need neurosurgery, we need a fully staffed OR" Arizona protested.

"We do not need extra people I am the best, you are the best" Graham screamed,

"We need more people assisting Graham, this isn't safe" Arizona continued, Maggie was a simple procedure, this was a lot more complex.

"Shut up Arizona shut up" he stormed over lifting her up by the neck cutting off her air. She fought scratching his hands drawling blood.

"You bitch" he punched her hard several times in the ribs in the stomach before releasing her. Arizona fell to the floor gasping for air. "if you won't help then I will do it solo" he threatened watching as her lips turned blue, before releasing her. She slid down the wall

"Sorry, I'm sorry Graham I'll do the surgery" Arizona pleaded from the floor her voice scratchy.

"Good, prep the patient get me a scalpel" he ordered.

"No, you will assist, you will tell me every step if you manage it then I will let you perform the next one solo" Arizona bargained bravely, she knew he didn't have the skills, she wasn't sure she did. But Hannah's best chance was if she operated. He nodded moving the trolley to the sink. Arizona scrubbed as he prepared Hannah's stomach.

"Scalpel" Arizona ordered. She began, trying not to let her dizziness take over. Halfway through she passed the scope to Graham going over to the sink vomiting. Nothing but bile coming out.

"I can finish Dr Herman if your radiotherapy is too much" Graham offered.

"My tumour is none of your business" Arizona snarked. She quickly rescrubbed hoping that she could hold off vomiting or collapsing until after the surgery was finished. Her prayers were answered as she finished steri-stripped the keyhole incisions dressing them. Both mother and baby were going to be okay as long as Graham let them go.

Graham waited until the last dressing was on before roughly pushing Arizona backwards intent on handcuffing her again to the pipes. The door slammed open.

"Police freeze" the men screamed as armed police stormed in Graham grabbed the scalpel pulling Arizona in front of him, holding the scalpel to her neck.

"Don't come any closer" he ordered pressing it down drawing blood. "I'll do it I'll kill her"

All Arizona could think was for the police to shoot them both, end her suffering, save Hannah and Maggie. She could feel the blood trickling down her neck, her head was thumping, her vision swimming. This was it, she was going to die and all she could feel was relief.
