To answer the reviews, this is Amizona friendship, but likely Calzona end game. Right now Arizona needs a friend not a relationship.
Chapter 9
"How was therapy?" Amelia asked 90 minutes later ignoring Arizona's red rimmed eyes,
"Rough, and we barely covered anything. Natasha it nice though I feel I can talk to her. She wants to see me every day for now" Arizona took a breath, "Can I go home now?"
"I've checked your scans they are still clear, but I want someone with you for 24 hours, so I'll make you a deal. I sleep in your spare room. I have today off, and Meredith hates me, and Owen is drinking a lot. I can't stay with him if I'm to keep my sobriety. Seriously you'd be doing me a favour." Amelia begged. Arizona weighed up her options, in truth she liked Amelia she understood what it was like to have life hit you repeatedly until all you could do was hold on and pray it would give you a break.
"Okay spare room is yours and not just for the next 24 hours. Everyone needs space" Arizona offered, it was going to be her home office, but she was never home long enough to need an office, so it may as well go to a friend in need, "As long as Deluca is cool with it. Rent is due on the 3rd of the month we buy our own groceries. Sofia is around half the week, so clothes are mandatory outside your bedroom"
"In which case I'll grab you a wheelchair and discharge papers" Amelia said. Arizona grinned carefully swinging her leg over the side of the bed and attaching her prosthetic. With Amelia's help she stood the movement jarring her bruises.
Getting home Deluca was out, which wasn't unexpected given an intern's schedule. Arizona headed for her bedroom feeling exhausted even that small journey had set off her dizziness and jarred everything. Amelia followed,
"I'll get you a glass of water and some pain killers do you want anything else?" She asked, Arizona shook her head no groaning as that made the dizziness worse.
"Okay I'll be back you rest of the bed" Amelia carefully placed the pillows so Arizona could be partially reclined before getting the promised pain relief.
"Nothing to strong, just to take the edge off, Tylenol and a small amount of morphine" Amelia promised. "Do you want to sleep, or I can put a film on?" Amelia offered.
"Can we watch Beauty and the beast?" Arizona asked shyly, Amelia nodded
"Sure, I've never seen it" She confessed, Arizona's eyes widened in shock
"You've never seen it; you live with 3 children! You were once a child, how have you never seen it"
"Well Zola watches TV in her room mostly, and Bailey is all about Thomas, Ellis is more a sesame street kind of girl"
"We need to improve your education. Let's watch the animated version first then the live action remake afterwards" Arizona planned her mind taken off her situation focusing more on Amelia's education.
Amelia watched the movie, laughing as Arizona mouthed the words to every song. She'd be singing if her throat wasn't so sore. The tunes were catchy though.
Halfway through her phone buzzed, it was Callie,
"Hey" Arizona said,
"Hey, how you feeling? Any better, I got your text, and I wanted to give you space, I've left a few messages, but you didn't respond, it's only because Bailey said she'd spoken to you I didn't break your door down" Callie started
"Yeah gastro, sorry I've been sleeping a lot" Arizona lied, her raspy voice only giving credence to what she was saying "How is Sofia?"
"Fine, she misses you, she is waiting to chat to you"
"Great put her on" Arizona ordered,
"Hey Mommy, Mamma says your sick" Sofia said
"Uh huh baby but talking to you is making me feel much better" Arizona lied,
"Can I see you?" Sofia asked
"Not yet baby, mommy has bugs making her sick and she doesn't want to get you sick too, but how was school did you learn anything" Arizona asked changing the subject after 10 minutes she heard Callie call,
"Bedtime Sof" she ordered,
"Night mommy, I love you" Sofia said blowing a kiss down the phone.
"Night Sofia, I love you so much" Arizona replied as the phone went dead. Amelia pressed play on the TV sensing Arizona needed some time to process her emotions ignoring her wipe away a tear. There had been moments in her captivity she had never thought she would see or speak to them again.
"So, what piece of furniture would you be?" Amelia asked as a distraction as beauty and the beast ended. "I've always thought of myself as a table. Tripping others up, scuffed and dented frequently, but generally useful."
"I'd be a rug, pretty to look at but always being stepped on and kicked and eventually ripped into so many pieces it gets scrapped" Arizona muttered, there was an awkward silence before she continued to lighten the mood, "Bailey would be a frying pain whacking anyone who misbehaved" She laughed
"Richard would be the grandfather clock, back in my day" Amelia mimicked. "Meredith would be a knife, nice and shiny but ready to stab you in the back"
"Callie would be a bed, supportive, dreamy, and occasional dishevelled," Arizona joked laughing winced at it tugged at her ribs. "April could be Belle, sheltered upbring, initially she was shy and made folders and graphs for everything"
"Does that make Jackson the beast?" Amelia asked,
"No, Jackson is more like the mirror, pretty to look at. I see Owen as the beast"
"Owen" Amelia's voice rose defensively,
"Yeah, gruff hard to like or get to know at first but underneath is a decent guy" Arizona justified,
"Doesn't that make me Belle?" Amelia questioned,
"Nah you're not a Belle if you were a Disney Princess, you'd be Mulan or Merida," Arizona decided, fiercely loyal and independent summed up Amelia,
"Who is Merida?" Amelia asked Arizona groaned
"You are so behind on your education, grab the Brave DVD" she ordered.
After watching Brave Amelia was hooked, "So if I'm Merida which Disney Princess are you?"
"hmm" Arizona thought truthfully it wasn't a question she had thought of after all Disney had no lesbian princesses and certainly right now, she didn't feel like a Princess.
"Right now, I feel like Meg from Hercules trading my soul to save Callie's, living with Hades in hell" Arizona grumbled,
"It gets better" Amelia promised, not wanting to tell the former Peds doctors she'd never seen Hercules, 2 Disney films were plenty for one night "I've been in the dark place, it gets better eventually. So, Maggie is totally Mary Poppins right, the perfect sister, loves to babysit, gets all the kids to take their medicine and into bed straight away"
"I can see that" Arizona agreed, "Bailey is totally Mulan, a leader bravely fighting a war and even when were outnumbered we know we have a secret weapon"
"Yeah, Bailey is badass" Amelia agreed, she'd heard of Mulan and knew the general concept. "Meredith is Cinderella, everyone's favourite Princess finds her own Prince Charming, almost lives happily ever after"
"Plus, she has 2 evil half-sisters, I see the similarities" Arizona joked causing Amelia to glare at her.
"What about Callie?"
"Moana, fiercely independent, stubborn and super protective over her family,"
They carried on debating their colleagues as Disney characters. Arizona able to name far more than Amelia thanks to her Ped's experience. It also meant while Amelia was living with Arizona, she was going to be subjected to all the Disney films she had missed.
At 1930 the doorbell rang Amelia answered, it was Bailey with groceries and Chinese. Amelia led her to the bedroom where Arizona was still resting.
"I thought I'd get your grant recommendations and feed you" she stated.
"Mine is Stephanie or Penny" Amelia said, "Out of those two I struggled to pick"
"I liked Wilson's, but Penny made some interesting points, like Amelia I'd vote for either of those"
"Noted, how are you?" Bailey asked Arizona what was quickly becoming her least favourite question.
"Better now I'm home" Arizona replied,
"Good I have to go, the rest of the attendings are meeting. I'll forward your nominations." Bailey left closing the door behind her.
"Great do you want the orange chicken or beef in black bean?" Amelia asked.
"Can I have a bit of each?" Arizona asked, truthfully not feeling hungry but knowing that Amelia wouldn't let her get away with eating nothing.
"Sounds good" Amelia grabbed 2 plates loading up a small amount of each on both before returning to the bedroom.
"Thanks" Arizona took the plate fighting nausea to take a few mouthfuls most of the rice grimacing as it went past her bruised throat. If Amelia noticed she didn't notice she didn't comment. Finishing half of her small plate Arizona was stuffed. Not one for large portions at the best of times spending 4 days starved had shrunk her stomach added with the pain on swallowing and nauseous feeling. As Amelia finished her plate, she noticed Arizona had fallen asleep. Carefully she extracted herself from the bed pulling the duvet over her friend. Going to the lounge she sat watching TV vegging out enjoying having a house practically to herself.
She was halfway through the tonight show when she heard crying coming from Arizona's bedroom quickly, she made her way in.
"Graham no, please, arrggghhhh" the blonde in the bed cried still asleep tossing in the grips of a nightmare. Amelia immediately went to the bed gently placing a hand on her shoulder
"Arizona, wake up" Amelia called, shaking her slightly, it works as the blond shot awake, sweating, eyes wide open breathing erratically, gripping Amelia's arm like her life depended on it. It took a few minutes for her to calm down enough to realise she was in her room, safe, not locked in a hospital with Graham.
"I'm gonna be" she muttered; Amelia quickly grabbed the paper basket by the bed in time for Arizona to vomit in it.
"Shower" Arizona climbed out of bed grabbing her crutches and hobbling into the bathroom. Amelia could hear the shower starting. It didn't seem wise to remind the Doctor that her stitches shouldn't get wet, instead Amelia changed the sweat-soaked sheets, got out clean pyjamas, and prepared the first aid kit for when the shower ended.
In the shower Arizona scrubbed her skin clean, ignoring the pain she felt as the sponge grazed over bruises, cuts reopening wounds, it didn't compare to the internal pain she was feeling. Blood mixed with tears and water as the shower hit the hottest setting it could reach. She wasn't clean she needed to get clean, he was on her, still touching her, she could feel his hands, his mouth, on her.
"Arizona, can I come in" A knock on the bathroom door interrupted her thoughts, she was safe, she was at home,
"I'll be out in a minute" she replied
"I have clean pyjamas, can I leave them in the bathroom I won't look" Amelia promised,
"Okay" Arizona agreed, she'd feel more vulnerable walking out naked, unable to hold a towel and use her crutches.
The door opened, even if Amelia had wanted to peak the amount of steam that the shower had generated made it impossible. Arizona turned off the shower drying and changing before hobbling out of the bathroom, everything ached, the wounds that had been steri-stripped closed had reopened, and she still didn't feel clean. Amelia was waiting sat on the bed.
"Do you want to talk about it?" she asked, Arizona shook her head no. "Okay can I dress your wounds?" Arizona closed her eyes exhausted and not wanting to face anyone touching her. but nodded her consent. She was bleeding and knew she risked infection if they didn't get sorted.
"Okay, they should be clean from the shower so I'm going to cover them" Amelia spoke slowly, keeping her voice calm. As she dressed each wound she could see.
"Do you want to go back to sleep?" Amelia asked, Arizona nodded seeming unsure. "I can stay we can watch TV" she offered. Arizona hesitated she wanted to be left alone to scream and cry but also wanted the comfort of having a friend next to her, having someone who cared. She remembered Callie's words, "I felt like I was going to be suffocated, the last several weeks I have laughed more I have done more I have enjoyed myself more and I finally feel free!" those words haunted her,
"No, I'm okay" Arizona lied giving up her comfort, she had suffocated Callie, she didn't want to do the same to Amelia. Didn't want her to feel trapped by her, suffocated, stuck. Amelia left the room Arizona sat on the bed remembering what Natasha had suggested writing down her feelings, she hobbled to the desk finding an old blank notepad before returning to the bed starting to write everything she was feeling. It's what Natasha had recommended.
What did you think of the Disney comparison, did you want Calzona ending or just Arizona alone? Let me know
