Lyra couldn't help but take notice of the girl that had helped her after she had stated her name. The girl in front of her had white skin and sapphire blue eyes, just like Lyra, but the girl also had short honey-blonde hair that seemed around shoulder-length and was wearing a reddish‐pink fedora, a bright pink dress with a white collar, a gray top underneath and a red waistcoat with a blue ribbon on her chest, along with black stockings that she wore on her legs, shiny brown boots that appeared to bere mid‐knee length and have a strap of darker brown at the front of each boot, with the rims of her soles being brown, while the soles of her boots grey, and lacking a heel, unlike regular boots.
Lyra smiled and shook hands with the girl, saying, "Nice to meet you, Serena."
Silverstream looked up at Serena before hiding behind Lyra nervously, which Serena saw and said while kneeling down towards her, "Awww, who's this"?
Lyra picked up Silverstream while saying, "This is Silverstream, my starter. She's shy around strangers. And behind me is Chesnaught and Dedenne, my dad's Pokemon."
Chesnaught and Dedenne waved hello to Serena, with Serena saying, "It's nice to meet you all. I can tell that you all seem to be great friends."
Cheanaught offered a vine out to shake hands with her, while Dedenne ran up Serena's arm and chirped a hello.
Serena held Dedenne in her hands while saying, "Hi there. You remind me of the Dedenne that a friend of mine has, and it's just as adorable as you are."
Dedenne blushed a little bit before it leaped back onto Chesnaught's shoulder, while Lyra then asked, "Say, Serena, would you mind helping me with some training? I want to do a little preparation before I challenge my first gym."
Serena was a little taken aback by the request, but more than happy to help her new friend, as she said, "Sure, I'm more than happy to help. I was with some friends earlier by the Lumious gym, and decided to take a break to do some training too. There's a battlefield around here if I remember where we could train for a bit."
Srena led the way, as Lyra and her pokemon followed their new friend over to a nearby field, where there was a dirt battlefield, just itching to be used.
As both girls, and the trio of Pokemon, walked onto the field, Lyra stretched her arms up, saying, "Man, this is so exciting! My first training session as a trainer! Let's give it everything we got, guys! We got to be 100% for our first gym battle"!
Silverstream, Chesnaught, and Dedenne all cheered in agreement, before Lyra asked Serena, "So, what should we do first"?
Serena suggested, "Well, why not first see what moves your pokemon do know"?
Lyra took that into thought before saying, "Good idea, especially since I just got Silverstream, and I want to see what moves she currently knows."
Lyra then pulled out her Pokedex and aimed it over Silverstream, as the Pokedex chimed and opened up an entry about Fennekin.
Fennekin, the Fox Pokémon. Fennekin expels hot air that can reach nearly 400 degrees. It likes to snack on twigs.
After the Pokedex read the entry, Lyra looked at where it listed the pokemon's moveset and saw what moves Silverstream knew, saying, "Hmmmm, ember, iron tail, and dig! That's pretty cool"!
Silverstream blushed a bit in embarrassment while wagging its tail, while Lyra added, "You're definitely one special Fennekin! Now, what do you say to us having our first practice battle together"?
Silverstream felt a little bit unsure, whimpering a bit while its ears flattened to show its nervousness.
Lyra quickly reassured Silverstream, petting it while saying, "Hey, it's gonna be ok. I'll be battle right alongside you; we got this together! As a team"!
Silverstream looked up at her trainer and decided to give it a try, tipping in determination as it howled a battle cry of excitement.
Serena chuckled from seeing Lyra's partner's reaction, saying, "Looks like Silverstream is set to go."
Lyra nodded, saying, "You bet, and you better watch out because we're going full-steam ahead"!
Both trainers took opposite sides of the battlefield, while Chesnaught stood on the sidelines, with Dedenne on its shoulder, as both Pokemon cheered each trainer on.
Silverstream was currently on top of Lyra's hat, as Lyra tightened her gloves before saying, "Silverstream, let's do this," while the shiny Fennekin leaped off from Lyra's hat and onto the battlefield, tipping in excitement while its eyes demonstrated a sense of determination.
Serena smiled, saying, "And I'll choose this Pokemon for your training partner! Pancham, you're up," while tossing a Pokeball up into the air, as it opened and sent a beam of light that re-energized and formed a living body out of it, as the Pokemon inside of the Pokeball soon appeared on the battlefield, ready to battle, crossing its arms in determination.
The Pokemon was a panda-like creature with a white head, along with a puffy white tail, a triangular black nose, rounded black ears, black circles around its eyes, and tufts of fur on top of its head and on each cheek, while its upper body and hind feet are black, and the lower body is dark gray, and where the two colors meet the dark gray forms a three-pointed pattern on its chest, and there are also three digits on each paw and small, dark brown circular pads on the soles of its black hind paws, and finally, a green leaf sticking out from the side of its mouth. But the most remarkable thing about this Pancham was that this one also had on a pair of sunglasses on top of his head.
Both Pokemon stared each other down as the battle was soon ready to begin.
Lyra took a deep breath in and out, before saying confidently, "Silverstream, let's start things off with ember"!
The shiny Fennekin leaped up into the air and let out a fiery dust-like cloud that was heading towards Pancham.
Serena then shouted, "Pancham, dodge it," and watched her Pancham flip backward to avoid the ember while Silverstream landed on the ground, feet first. It gritted its teeth in frustration, as Lyra sensed this, saying, "Let's try a new alternative: iron tail"!
Silverstream ran towards Pancham as its tail became metallic, before she started to swing it at him.
"Quick, intercept it with arm thrust," shouted Serena, as her Pokemon's right arm glowed while it clashed with Silverstream's iron tail both moves causing a stalemate between each other.
Lyra saw the position they were in and shouted, "Use ember right where you are"!
Silverstream heard this and smiled, shooting an ember straight at Pancham's face, hitting it head-on, while the panda Pokemon shouted in pain, feeling the damage affect it.
Not too far away, at a nearby tree where the field was, there was something that appeared to be watching the battle going on, but it looked...invisible, to the human eye.
Serena, seeing this, commented, "Not bad, but I think it's time we dazzle the stage, Pancham! Use stone edge"!
Pancham shouted its name loudly while it slammed its hands into the ground and formed a chain of tall, glowing rocks, that was heading towards Silverstream, who looked too frightened to move from seeing the move, and got hit square in the chest, sent flying towards Lyra.
Lyra ran up to Silverstream, saying, "I got you, Silverstream," and caught the shiny Fennekin, who had fainted from the hit and had swirls in her eyes.
Serena, seeing this, commented, "I guess that's it," while her Pancham chirped in confusion.
Lyra held her Fennekin close to her, saying, "Silverstream, are you ok"?
The Fennekin recovered and looked up at Lyra, indicating what had happened, and whimpered, leaping out of Lyra's arms and running into a nearby bush, with Lyra shouting, "Wait, Silverstream! Come back"!
As she watched the Fennekin hide in the bush, Lyra was confused, asking, "I don't get it; why did she just run into the bush like that"?
Chesnaught and Dedenne walked up to the bush, trying to lure out Silverstream, while inside, the shiny Fennekin was whimpering in fright, shaking like a leaf.
Lyra quickly whistled for Chesnaught and Dedenne, saying, "Hold on you two; step back for a bit, we don't want to scare Silverstream anymore than she is."
Chesnaught and Dedenne quickly understood and gave space between themselves and the bush, as Serena asked, "Do you think maybe it's upset that it lost"?
Lyra answered, "I don't think so. It looked more...frightened. Like it was worried something was gonna happen because it lost."
Lyra slowly approached the bush, saying softly, "Silverstream? Are you ok"?
The bush rustled a little bit as the shiny Fennekin peeked its head out, still shaking in fright while whimpering.
Lyra did her best to comfort her, saying, "Hey, it's ok, Silverstream. I'm not upset or mad that we lost; it's ok. This is just a learning experience for us; we can use this battle to grow stronger together."
Silverstream was a bit surprised to see Lyra saying this and nothing else happening, but it still didn't feel like coming out, as it seemed to be anticipating something.
Lyra remembered that Sycamore had told her that Silverstream was rescued from Pokemon poachers who kidnapped her, and thought maybe the experience with them was what was making Silverstream feel so wary.
Wanting to see if she was right, Lyra asked softly, "Lyra, are you feeling scared...that I might do something bad because we lost"?
Silverstream made her ears droop down and gave a mournful look as it sadly nodded, crouching low in shame.
Lyra then asked, "Does it...have to do with something that happened...in the past"?
Silverstream nodded again, remembering an incident that happened back after she had first been captured by the Pokemon poachers.
Flashback...
In an empty field littered with two huge trucks, and cages full of Pokemon waiting outside the trucks, Lyra was shaking in a cage as she watched the two Poachers, who their silhouettes were unidentifiable at the moment, using another shiny Fennekin, similar to her, to try and battle against an unknown Pokemon, who readied a Power-Up Punch and knocked it out cold.
The Pokemon then escaped into the bushes before the poachers could even catch it.
"You weak little s*t! You couldn't even weaken what was supposed to be our prized catch! You're nothing more than a useless asset," shouted one angry poacher, who glared at the Fennekin, who could only whimper in pain and fright.
Then, another poacher approached it from behind with what looked like a black whip and started to flick it, whipping the helpless Fennekin, while Silverstream could do nothing but watch and scream in fear, banging its head against the cage to try and break out to help it...but couldn't.
End of flashback...
Silverstream was close to breaking down into tears, sniffling quietly.
Lyra felt really bad for Silverstream, as she could tell that the Fennekin had probably gone through so much trauma before she even met her.
She carefully picked up Silverstream, holding her close, while saying, "Silverstream, whatever happened, with those "poachers" who took you, I am so sorry you had to go through that. I bet that was really scary, right"?
Silverstream slowly nodded in reply.
Serena, meanwhile, was overhearing this, and gasped in shock when she heard Lyra mention poachers, as she commented inquisitively to herself, in shock, "Silverstream was taken by poachers," while Pancham chattered in shock as well.
Lyra then commented, "I can see that the experience you had must've left you feeling like, if you ever lose, something bad will happen. but, I promise you, those poachers are never gonna hurt you again, because you're with me, and I never treat Pokemon like assets or tools. I treat them like family, because we are a family, together. We share love and laughs, and kindness, and it doesn't matter if we win or lose a battle; no, that's not what's most important. To me, your well-being, my pokemon's well-being, everyone together, is what's most important. I could care less if we are on a 100-battle losing streak, because winning isn't what I care about, nor is who you are physically or what you look like. I only care about who you are as a person, erm, pokemon in this case. Your personality, what your interests are, how you like to chew an Oran Berry blindfolded if that's what you like to do on a Tuesday morning."
That last part made Lyra and Silverstream snicker, because it was a funny made-up quirk, before Lyra continue with, "Those are the things I care about more. And no matter what, I would never want to do anything bad to you, because you're my friend, my partner, my numero uno, and most of all: you're family. Always have, even though we just met today, and always will be. Win or lose, we're in this...together."
Silverstream felt a lot better and smiled, feeling a happy tear stream down its eye, as it yipped happily and jumped into Lyra's arms, snuggling close, while Lyra hugged her partner.
Chesnaught could feel happy tears build up around its own eyes as it used his vine to wipe them away, while Dedenne was straight up happy-bawling.
Meanwhile, by the tree, the thing that was watching Lyra, despite being invisible, also seemed to smile in response, finding some intrigue in this human.
Then, while in her trainer's arms, Lyra suddenly felt something coming up, as it puffed its cheeks and could feel a burning sensation in its stomach.
Lyra, noticing this, asked, "Silverstream, are you ok"?
Serena and Pancham came towards her, with Serena asking, "What's going on with Silverstream," with Pancham chattering inquisitively in reply.
Suddenly, Silverstream let loose a large stream of fire, that narrowly missed Pancham, but it did catch his bottom on fire, making the panda Pokemon shout in pain and run around the battlefield before he quickly sat down and used the dirt to put the fire out, sighing in relief.
Serena and Lyra were both taken aback by the sudden motion, as Silverstream was too, with the Fennekin sheepishly smiling and saying "Sorry" in its language.
Pancham, luckily, wasn't too bothered by what had happened, giving a thumbs-up to show that it was all good, while Lyra commented, "Wow, that was the most surprising way to learn flamethrower I've ever seen! And you got a new move"!
Silverstream yipped excitedly, wagging its tail.
Suddenly, both girls heard a voice call out, "Serena! Are you here," while two other voices followed, calling out Serena's name.
Serena looked around, hearing the voices calling her, and smiled, recognizing them, as she commented, "Oh, sounds like my friends are looking for me. Lyra, do you want to meet the friends I'm traveling with"?
Lyra nodded, saying, "Sure, we'd love to! Right, guys"?
Silverstream nodded, along with Chesnaught, and Dedenne, who climbed up onto the top of Lyra's hat.
Lyra then got a great idea, saying, "Let's signal your friends that we're over here."
Serena liked the sound of that idea, saying, "Good idea," and pulled out another Pokeball, saying, "Braixen, come on out"!
A surge of light formed next to Pancham before it developed into a body and within it, a Pokemon emerged right from the Pokeball.
The Pokemon standing next to Pancham was a fox-like Pokemon, similar to Silverstream, except it was taller and bipedal, and it had yellow fur, black legs, white arms and face, and a dark orange tail tip, with the fur on its cheeks being longer, and it also had a small mane of white fur covers its shoulders and chest, complimenting long, wavy tufts of dark orange fur the grew out of its large ears, with its eyes and small nose match the fur in color. When it opened its mouth to say its name, two pointed teeth could be seen in its upper jaw, and above its legs, the fur swept out to either side, resembling a skirt or shorts, while each of its paws has three small digits. The final trait about it was that this Pokemon also had a stick "sticking" out of its bushy tail fur.
Lyra noticed this Pokemon, saying, "Cool! Your Pokemon looks similar to Silverstream," and pulled out her Pokedex to see what Pokemon Serena had let out.
Braixen, the Fox Pokemon, and the evolved form of Fennekin. When the twig is plucked from its tail, friction sets the twig alight. The flame is used to send signals to its allies.
When the Pokedex finished explaining, Lyra understood better, saying, "Oh, I get it; so Braixen is the evolved for Fennekin. That's why they look so similar."
Serena then commented, "Yep. When I started my journey, I picked Fennekin as my starter too, and over time, we grew stronger together, and it evolved into Braixen."
Braixen chattered happily as Silverstream, who was looking at Braixen, seemed in awe of meeting its evolved form, with her eyes glistening in admiration.
Braixen saw the shiny Fennekin and the way it was admiring her, and she felt touched, approaching Lyra and Silverstream, and patting Silverstream on the heat while chattering with her.
Silverstream seemed to feel so motivated by what Braixen had said, chirping excitedly while its tail wagged back and forth.
Serena then asked Braixen, "Braixen, could you use your stick to signal Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie that we're right here"?
Braixen nodded and pulled her stick out from her tail, pointing it up in the sky, sending a flamethrower straight up into the air.
Not too far away, walking down the sidewalk, was a trio of people, who looked up and saw the flamethrower signal.
One of the people was a boy with tan skin, black spiky hair that was kept under a red cap with a white Pokeball symbol on it, brown eyes, had zig-zag markings on his cheeks, and he wore a blue short-sleeve shirt with white trimming on it, gray pants, and matching red sneakers, as well as black-and-red fingerless gloves, a green backpack on his back, and on top of his head was his Pokemon partner: Pikachu, who had short yellow fur, with two brown stripes on its back, a little bit of black on the edge of its lightning-shaped tail, two long oval-pointed ears, that were black at the tip, black eyes, and adorable red cheeks.
Behind the boy with the Pikachu was another boy around his age, who had white skin, blonde hair that wasn't as spiky as Ash's, and he had a lightning-shaped tuft sticking up from the top, gray eyes, with a pair of glasses that he wore to help him see, and he also wore a blue-and-yellow jumpsuit, with gray sneakers, and a white backpack on his back that had an electric Aipom arm.
Walking behind him was a little girl, who looked younger than him, who had similar features to the boy: white skin, blonde hair, that she wore in a small side ponytail that was held by a golden clip, blue eyes, and wore a brown shirt with a black ribbon tied in the middle of it, a white skirt, short black tights that were like shorts, pink shoes, and she had a golden handbag worn around her shoulders, like a purse.
All three of them saw the flamethrower signal as the boy with the Pikachu commented, "Hey, look at that," while his Pikachu chattered in agreement.
The boy with the glasses then said, "I wonder if that flamethrower might be from Serena's Braixen," while the girl then shouted, "Let's go see," and started to run towards it, with what was guessed to be her older brother, shouted, "Bonnie, wait! You can't run off like that," and followed his little sister, with the trainer with the Pikachu following them.
The now identified girl kept running as she soon approached the battlefield, seeing Serena, and a girl she didn't know (Lyra), on the field, as she shouted, "There they are"!
Both boys caught up to the little girl, while Serena and Lyra noticed the trio coming down the stairs, as Serena ran up to them, saying, "What are you guys doing here? Everything ok back at the gym"?
The boy with the glasses answered, "Everything's good at the gym; Clembot volunteered to watch things over while we went to see how you were doing with training."
Serena replied, "Well, I got a little sidetracked because I ended up meeting a new friend," before gesturing to Lyra, who came forward, saying, "Hi there, nice to meet you guys. I'm Lyra, and I'm from Santalune City."
The boy with the glasses spoke up first, saying, "nice to meet you, Lyra. I'm Clemont," before Bonnie spoke up, saying, "I'm Bonnie, and this is Dedenne," before she showed off her bag, where inside, a little Dedenne popped its head out to say hi.
Lyra saw the Dedenne in Bonnie's bag, saying, "Awwwww, it's so cute; it's just like my dad's Dedenne," while pointing to the top of her hat, where her Dedenne was, as it waved hello.
Suddenly, Lyra looked up at the boy with the Pikachu and gasped, shouting, "No way! You're Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town"!
Everyone seemed surprised by Lyra easily recognizing the boy, as Ash replied, "Uh, yeah, it's me," while Serena asked, "Wait, you know Ash"?
Lyra nodded, saying, "Yeah! I watched the Sinnoh League and the Unova League on television! This guy is amazing in battle! Between your battle against Tobias's Darkrai in sinnoh, and your battle against Cameron in Unova, this guy's incredible"!
Ash scratched the back of his head, feeling a bit embarrassed, while saying, "I guess you saw my battle, huh," while Pikachu mimicked his trainer's actions.
Lyra nodded, saying, "Yeah, and you were so awesome in them! And your Pikachu too! He's so cute up close," while gently scratching Pikachu under the chin, making the electric mouse coo.
Lyra then added, "Watching your battles made me want to become a trainer too, so I can someday be as strong as you are"!
Ash chuckled before saying, "Well, I'm not that strong; I still have a long way to go before I can become strong enough to be a Pokemon Master. And challenging the Kalos League is my next step to achieving my dream"!
Lyra then smiled, saying, "Well, I plan to enter the Kalos League too, so, that means you and I are automatically rivals! Let's do our best to win our gym battles and someday, battle at the league together"!
Ash and Lyra both high-fived together, with Ash saying, "It's a deal, though you better be ready because I'm gonna win"!
Lyra replied back, "Don't count all your showcase keys before you enter the Master Class yet, Ketchum."
Serena, hearing Lyra's metaphor, asked, "Showcase keys? Are you a fan of showcases too"?
Lyra replied, "Yeah! Aside from Pokemon Battles, I love watching the Pokemon Showcases! I also want to be a Pokemon Performer, and try to become Kalos Queen! I know it sounds like I'm juggling a lot, but I don't mind: I love to have fun and be with my Pokemon! That's what counts most of all, right"?
Ash answered, "Yeah! As long as you got great friends and a great team of Pokemon by your side, you can be able to do anything," with Pikachu chirping in agreement.
Serena added, "Ash's right; plus, you're definitely right about the showcases being fun. You know, I'm a Performer myself, though I'm still a bit new at it. So, what do you say we both also try to achieve our dream at becoming Kalos Queen together? Even as rivals, we'll have fun giving it everything we got"!
Lyra nodded, saying while high-fiving Serena, "You got it! But like Ash, i plan to win," as Serena smiled, saying in return, "I'm not gonna lose either"!
Lyra then faced Ash, Clemont, and Bonnie, saying, "Oh, I almost forgot to introduce to you my Pokemon! This is Silverstream, my partner, and on my head, and right behind me, are my Dad's Pokemon: Chesnaught, and Dedenne."
Silverstream shyly yipped a hello, while Chesnaught and Dedenne both waved hello.
Bonnie immediately ran up to Silverstream, saying, "Your Fennekin's so cute! Can i pet it, please"?
Silverstream felt a bit hesitant and tried to hide its face in Lyra's arms, as Lyra answered, "Silverstream's a little shy around strangers, so you might want to give her some time to get used to you before you pet her. In the mean time, Dedenne, why don't you meet Bonnie and her Dedenne"?
Lyra knelt down so her Dedenne could look at Bonnie and chirp a happy hello, with Bonnie saying, "Hi there! You're just as adorable as my Dedenne," before lifting up the flap on her bag so her Dedenne could pop out and say hi.
Both electric mouses approached each other and used electricity to communicate happily together.
Meanwhile, Clemont and Ash were meeting Chesnaught, with Ash saying, "Wow, Chesnaught looks really strong," while Clemont added, "And it definitely seems well-trained."
Suddenly, Clemont felt Chesnaught use its left arm to pick him up, making the boy nervously shout a bit while Chesnaught smiled and held Clemont up on his shoulder, showing its strength, as Ash pulled out his Pokedex to read up about Chesnaught.
Chesnaught, the Spiny Armor Pokemon, and the final evolved form of Chespin. Its Tackle is forceful enough to flip a 50-ton tank. It shields its allies from danger with its own body.
Ash chuckled, saying, "It definitely looks like a tough Pokemon."
Pikachu climbed up onto Chesnaught's other shoulder, waving and chirping a hello, as Chesnaught smiled and chattered its hello right back.
Lyra then commented, "Chesnaught's pretty strong, but deep down he's actually a real sweetheart. He's docile and doesn't like to lash out any attacks unless it needs to."
Clemont then asked, "So Lyra, which gym are you going to challenge first"?
Lyra answered, "Well since I'm in Lumious, I'll challenge the gym here first."
Ash chuckled before saying, "Well, you're in for a treat; Clemont is a tough opponent."
Lyra suddenly gasped, commenting, "You're the Gym Leader"?!
Clemont nodded, answering, "Yep. In fact, earlier today, Ash and I had an official gym battle," while Bonnie declared, "And Ash won, but my big brother fought really well"!
Lyra was really impressed, saying, "Wow! Hey, think I can be able to challenge you, Clemont"?
Before Clemont could answer, Pikachu's ears twitched, as the electric mouse looked around, wondering what it had just heard.
Ash, noticing this, asked, "Pikachu, what's wrong"?
Pikachu chattered how it was looking for something that it had just heard.
Suddenly, Lyra could feel her hat slide off her head, and float in the air, as she shouted, "Huh?! Hey, my hat"!
The hat seemed to float around in the air, as Lyra tried to jump up and grab it, saying, "Hey, hat! Come back here"! Dedenne and Chesnaught tried to grab it too, but whatever was making the hat float also made it hard for them to grab it, as it slipped away.
Suddenly, the hat seemed to start floating away, as Lyra placed Silverstream down and ran after her hat, saying, "Hey, come back here! Where are you going, hat," while Silverstream Dedenne and Chesnaught ran after her, with Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie following.
Lyra kept running down the sidewalk, chasing after her hat, as it then mysteriously led her down an alleyway. It was dark, hard to see, and long and twisty, but Lyra didn't mind so long as she was able to keep up.
Soon, the hat reached a dead end, with Lyra cornering her cap, saying, "Gotcha! Now, come back to me, hat."
Suddenly, the light that was surrounding the hat and making it float vanished, and the cap fell to the floor, landing on the ground.
Lyra was confused, cautiously approaching her hat before she saw something moving around inside of it, making her step back while asking, "Who's in there"?
The hat moved around for a bit before whatever was inside lifted the front of the cap, and just under its rim, Lyra squatted down to get a closer look at what was inside and saw what was lifting the cap and making it move.
Inside the hat, there was a Pokemon that had a large, round white head and a small black-cloaked body with tiny extremities, and its arms and legs were very slender and fragile-looking, and it also had green hair that resembled a musical bar, with matching blue dots on some of the lines on it, blue-green eyes,, along with a round jewel on its forehead.
Lyra was stunned to see the Pokemon that was in front of her, as it looked up at Lyra and smiled, saying, "Meloetta," and chattering softly.
