Disclaimer- I do not own Pokemon, or the characters from the show, I only own my O.C. Now, let's get right to it!
Lyra looked at the Pokemon that was nestled under her hat, saying, "Woah! What kind of Pokemon are you"?
The Pokemon kept looking at Lyra, not leaving its spot under the hat, but smiled, saying, "Le Meloetta"!
Chesnaught and Dedenne were surprised to be witnessing it as well, while Silverstream looked rather confused.
Lyra pulled out her Pokedex to see what it had to say about the Pokemon she was witnessing.
Meloetta, the Melody Pokemon. The melodies sung by Meloetta have the power to make Pokémon that hear them happy or sad.
Silverstream was looking at Meloetta, who soon came out from under the hat and flew around Lyra, chirping and giggling happily.
Lyra watched as she couldn't help but chuckle, saying, "I guess you just wanted to play, huh"?
Meloetta nodded, picking up Lyra's hat and placing it back onto the human's head.
Silverstream took her place back on her trainer's head while Meloette floated over to Chesnaught and Dedenne, who gave her warm greetings.
Meloetta smiled and bowed her head at each of them, before she heard Lyra ask it, "Say, Meloetta, what are you doing around here anyway"?
However, before Meloetta could answer, suddenly, there was a loud BANG noise that got everyone startled, especially Meloette, who got scared and became invisible.
When Lyra turned her head to see what made the noise, it turned out to be from a fallen trash can, which perked her attention and made her say, "Let's go see what's making that noise."
She pulled out her two Pokeballs, saying, "Chesnaught, Dedenne, return for now," and returned them to their Pokeballs while Silverstream climbed over to her trainer's shoulders so she wouldn't fall off when Lyra got up and ran over to the trash cans.
Both she and Silverstream saw the fallen trashcans, littering garbage among the streets, as Lyra shook her head, saying, "What happened here? Who would litter like this," and picked up some of the fallen trash and placed it back in the trash cans, setting it upright again.
Suddenly, she heard someone shout, "Hey, you scoundrel! Come back here with that baguette"!
Silverstream heard the shout and tipped to alert Lyra, who stood up, saying, "someone needs help; let's hurry," and ran towards the sound of the shout.
Lyra ended up stopping by a bakery, where a male baker looked very frustrated, saying, "that's the tenth time that little blue runt's made off with my freshly baked baguette"!
Lyra took this into account, saying, "Little blue runt? Did you see where it went"?
The baker replied, "It went that way, but-," before Lyra answered, "Great, thanks," and went down the pointed direction.
Lyra kept running down the street, looking for what could've taken eh baguette, while saying, "i wonder what he meant by "little blue runt." You think it was some sort of Pokemon, Silverstream"?
The shiny Fennekin shook its head,d unsure of what to answer, before suddenly, its ears twitched, meaning it heard something. She immediately leaped down from her trainer's shoulder and darted off, following the sound, with Lyra following close behind.
Silverstream kept following the sound before it turned a corner and spotted the "little blue runt", who had tripped over a stick and dropped its baguette into the basket of a nearby shopper, who was leaving a flower shop and didn't see the baguette that landed in her basket
The "little blue runt" looked really sad when it saw the lady leave with its baguette, before Lyra arrived, saying, "Silverstream, did you find it"?
Silverstream nodded and pointed to the "little blue runt" which turned out to be a Pokemon. A small Pokemon that was light blue and had a black torso and legs, a blue tail, and a yellow collar, along with rounded bumps on the backs of its forepaws, a black "mask" and red eyes, and it appeared to be standing on its toes instead of its entire foot, or feet.
The Pokemon then turned to face Silverstream and barked angrily, blaming her for making it lose its food, while Silverstream tipped back that it shouldn't have stolen the bread in the first place.
Seeing the two Pokemon fighting, Lyra soon stepped in, saying, "Hey, easy, easy. No need to fight."
The little blue Pokemon then jumped back and made a "Bring it on" motion with its left paw, challenging Silverstream.
The shiny Fennekin, seeing this, growled a bit, not liking being put on the spot like that, while Lyra, seeing this, commented, "Looks like that Pokemon is angry. Guess there's only one thing to do. Silverstream, you up for a battle"?
Silverstream nodded and stared down the Pokemon, set to fight it.
The little blue Pokemon then drew its arm back and sent a powerful wave of force towards Silverstream.
Lyra, seeing this, stated, "That's vacuum wave! silverstream, dodge it"!
Silverstream jumped to the side to dodge the move before it used the bottom side of a basket to leap up into the air.
Seeing the chance, Lyra declared, "Silverstream, use flamethrower"!
Silverstream unleashed a stream of fire towards the blue Pokemon, who backflipped to dodge it, before it ran forward, making a lot of copies of itself that circled around Silverstream, who was nervous, seeing all of these copies around her.
Lyra, seeing this, mentioned, "Now, it's using double team! Silverstream, it's ok! A lot of the copies are fake! Stay calm and sense the real one! Then, use iron tail"!
Silverstream nodded and stayed calm, paying close attention to the copies that surrounded it. Suddenly, its ears twitched, making Silverstream look behind her and see one copy eerily moving towards her. It gave the Fennekin enough time to jump back and spin, using iron tail, and swinging its tail, hitting the real copy of the Pokemon.
The blue Pokemon skidded back, holding its arm from feeling the hit, as it grinned, seeing Silverstream as a worthy opponent.
Silverstream stood her ground, set to make another move.
Lyra then said, "Now, spin and use ember"!
Silverstream started to spin around and use ember, showering it with an orangy, glistening cloud, making it hard to see her.
The blue Pokemon grimaced and charged forward, trying to use its right paw to eliminate the cloud by drawing it back and then hitting it with its palm, using force palm. However, when it hit the cloud, Silverstream was gone.
The blue Pokemon gasped, unsure of where it went, that it didn't get the chance to look up, and see the little silver firefox right above it.
Lyra grinned and said, "Now, use flamethrower"!
Silverstream unleashed another stream of fire at the blue Pokemon, who got hit head-on and was knocked to the ground. It struggled to get to its feet, before dropping down on its knees and falling over, becoming unconscious, as swirls were seen in its eyes.
Seeing that they won, Lyra cheered and said, "Silverstream, we did it! We won our first battle"!
Silverstream cheered happily and leaped into its trainer's arms, both of them hugging and cheering together, as Lyra praised Silverstream, saying, "I'm so proud of you"!
Silverstream tipped happily, wagging its tail, and nuzzling her trainer's cheek.
Then they both turned their attention to the Pokemon they had just beaten, as Silverstream climbed up onto its trainer's head, while Lyra approached it.
The blue Pokemon groaned and started to try and sit up, when it saw Lyra offering it a hand, asking it, "Want a little help"?
The little blue Pokemon looked up at Lyra, pouting that it lost to her, and turned its head away to hide its embarrassed blush as it accepted the help, letting Lyra help it back onto its feet.
Lyra couldn't help but smile, saying, "You know, you're a pretty interesting Pokemon. You're gutsy, and you like to battle head-on. i can respect that."
The little blue Pokemon raised its eyebrow, curious about what the human was talking about.
Then, Lyra stated, "But, you do need to go say sorry to that baker you kept stealing baguettes from."
The Pokemon pouted and crossed its arms, turning its head, not wanting to admit it had to d such a thing.
Lyra didn't give in though, as she simply crossed her arms and said, "Do we have to do this the hard way"?
The Pokemon did not give in still, remaining adamant about not apologizing for anything.
A few minutes later, Lyra was seen, carrying the Pokemon in his arms, while Silverstream was giggling, as Lyra explained to the baker, "We found your "little blue runt" who took your baguette, and I think it has something it wants to say to you. Go right ahead, little one."
The Pokemon groaned and muttered an "I'm sorry," in its own language.
The baker sighed before saying, "Well, I'm happy someone finally got this little one under control. He keeps stealing my baguettes and i don't know why."
Lyra answered, "Well, they do smell very good, and i bet they taste just as delicious. so, i bet it probably was hungry, am I right"?
The Pokemon nodded, feeling its stomach rumble in hunger.
Lyra chuckled, saying, "That explains everything. Well, if you were hungry, why didn't you just say so"?
Lyra fished through her backpack and pulled out a chocolate chip cookie, saying, "Here. I was gonna eat this later, but you seem to need it more than I do."
The Pokemon was confused, accepting the cookie before it sniffed it, unsure of trying it. When it took a bite, it immediately loved it, gobbling down the cookie quickly, making the baker chuckle and say, "Well, that's one hungry Riolu. He sure has quite an appetite."
Lyra, hearing the name of the Pokemon, commented, "Oh, so that's kind of Pokemon this hungry feisty guy is. I thought it looked familiar," before Silverstream fished through her trainer's bag and pulled out her Pokedex, giving it to her.
Lyra accepted it and used other Pokedex to identify Riolu in her arms.
Riolu, the Emanation Pokemon. Riolu has the power to see and understand emotions like happiness and anger in aura waves.
Lyra smiled, saying while giving Silverstream the Pokedex so it could put it back in her bag, "Wow, a Riolu, that's pretty cool."
Riolu chirped happily before it then wanted to be let down, and jumped out of the trainer's arms.
Lyra, seeing this, chuckled, saying, "guess you don't like being carried around like that, huh? I get it; I wouldn't like it if someone carried me around like that too."
Riolu nodded in agreement before it then started to turn around and run away, as Lyra called out, "Wait, come back"!
However, the Pokemon was gone before she could even catch up to it, as the baker commented, "I wouldn't chase after it. That Riolu tends to be a bit stubborn and follow its won thing. Trainers who have spotted it mention that it seems like it's waiting for something."
Lyra couldn't help but look on at where Riolu had run off, feeling worried about where it might be.
Suddenly, Lyra heard some voices calling out to her, and turned to see Ash, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie, running up to her, with Ash saying, "There you are"!
Serena added, "When you didn't come back, we got worried, and tried to find you"!
Lyra sheepishly chuckled, saying, "Sorry about that, guys. I ended up finding my hat and getting it back, and then, I got distracted by a Pokemon that stole a man's baguette, and it turned out to be a hungry Riolu. Silverstream and I battled it and we won, and then, it left."
Ash, hearing this, commented, "A Riolu? Wow, that's so cool," while Pikachu chirped in agreement.
Meanwhile, Clemont commented, "Perhaps it probably doesn't trust humans to a full extent. That could it be why it disappeared."
Lyra replied, "I guess so. It's a little sad, though; i was actually kind of hoping of maybe asking it to join my team. But, I don't want to pressure a Pokemon to joining if they don't want to. Besides, I'm sure it'll soon meet someone special to be with. In the meant time, let's head to the Pokemon Center."
With that, the group all started to head to the Pokemon Center, which was happily nearby.
At the Center, while their Pokemon were being healed, Lyra was taking the opportunity to register for the Pokemon League and the Showcase Circuit.
She had played her Pokedex on the scan panel, as it was analyzing her information.
Once it was done, Nurse Joy gave Lyra a badge case, saying, "I'm pleased to say that your registration was a complete success. You are now all set for participating in gym battles. And , you've been officially registered for the next upcoming Showcase, which is in Laverre City."
Lyra accepted back her Pokedex, and the badge case, saying, "Thanks, Nurse Joy."
While Nurse joy went to check on the Pokemon, Lyra commented to herself, "Laverre City, so that'll be my next stop."
Ash mentioned, "Laverre City also happens to be the sight of my next gym battle, too."
Lyra chuckled, saying, "Awesome, that means you and I can race to see who challenges the gym first"!
Ash nodded, saying, "You got it," while Clemont asked, "So, Serena, are you gonna take part in the next showcase as well"?
Serena thought about it before answering, "Actually, I want to skip this one. I still have a lot of work to do for my routines, and I'm not sure if I'm ready to return to a showcase stage that quickly yet."
Lyra, hearing this, asked, "Since I'm registered for the Showcase, you think you can give me some pointers, Serena? I want to make my debut look as good as possible. But, I don't know the first thing about making a routine."
Serena smiled, saying, "No problem, I'm happy to give you some tips. And hey, it's ok if you get nervous, I was nervous my first time too, but I know you'll do great."
Lyra smiled, saying, "Thanks, Serena."
Suddenly, Lyra noticed something outside the glass door of the Pokemon Center. On the outside, sitting by a fountain on a wooden bench that was in front of it, was the same Riolu she had met earlier. It seemed to be sitting there, kicking its legs, as if it was waiting for something.
Lyra gasped, shouting, "That's it! That's the Riolu I saw earlier," and ran outside, with her new friends following her.
Outside, Lyra approached Riolu, saying, "Hey, Riolu, what are you doing here"?
Riolu looked up and gasped, recognizing Lyra, as it shrugged, returning back to looking around while it sat.
Lyra, feeling curious, asked it, "Are you waiting for something"?
Riolu shook its head in reply as it stood on the bench, trying to get a better view.
Lyra then asked, "Are you waiting for someone"?
Riolu nodded, chattering something as it kept trying to look.
Bonnie couldn't help but comment, "Maybe it's waiting for it's trainer to come back," while her Dedenne chirped in agreement.
Clemont added, "Or maybe it's waiting for a particular Pokemon to arrive."
Lyra, taking these into thought, asked, "Riolu, are you waiting for your trainer"?
Riolu nodded, trying to climb higher onto the top arhc of the bench for a better look, but slipped and fell, almost landing in the fountain if not for Lyra catching it, saying, "I got you"!
Riolu looked up at Lyra and sighed in relief, chattering a thank you, as Lyra placed him back on the bench, saying, "You're welcome. Do you know when your trainer is coming back"?
Riolu shrugged and shook its head, as a way of saying it didn't know when its trainer was coming back.
This struck Ash close, saying, "You don't know when the trainer is coming back"?
Riolu started to stand on the bench seat and look around again, nodding its head in reply, as Lyra asked, "Uh, how long has your trainer been gone for"?
Riolu looked at the human in reply before it leaped down and pulled out two things: a folded piece of paper, and a calendar that had been marked off with mud, indicating Riolu has been keeping track of the days that its trainer had been gone.
Clemont looked at the calendar, gasping as he exclaimed, "It says here that according to Riolu, its trainer had been gone for three months"!
Everyone gasped and shouted, "Three months"?!
Lyra then looked at the paper Riolu was holding, unfolding it to look at it, saying, "And this is a note. Dear Riolu, i need to take care of some personal errands. I need you to stay here at this bench and don't leave until I come back. I'll be back to pick you up once I'm done. Signed, TJ."
Clemont then said, "So, Riolu has been waiting here for three months because his trainer has been doing some errands"?
Lyra had a bad feeling about this, saying, "I don't think this is just "running for errands." If anything, I think..."
Lyra then looked at Riolu, who was too preoccupied with looking around, as she whispered to her friends, "I think Riolu mkight've been abandoned, and he doesn't know it."
Everyone gasped in shock, with Bonnie replying, "But why would he want to abandon him!? Riolu looks so cute"!
Ash answered, "We need to find this TJ and get some answers! He can't just abandon his Pokemon like that"!
Serena then commented, "But we don't even know where TJ is, or where he could be. We don't even know what he looks like."
Lyra then answered, "Well, we have to do something! I'm not gonna just sit here and let this innocent Pokemon be fooled by his bad trainer's charade any longer"!
Suddenly, the group heard the Pokemon Center bell chime, indicating that their Pokemon had been healed.
Seeing this, Ash commented, "Sounds like Nurse Joy is finished healing our Pokemon. Let's go pick them up."
With that, the group went inside the Pokemon Center to pick up their Pokemon. What no one knew was that when they went inside, Riolu watched and became sad, as he leaped down from the bench and walked over to a rock. He lifted the rock and saw pieces of a broken Pokeball laying in the dirt. The Emanation Pokemon sighed sadly before he lowered the rock down and returned back to the bench, pretending to look again.
Inside the Center, the group was picking up their Pokemon, mostly putting their Pokeballs away, while Ash and Lyra picked up Pikachu and Silverstream since they weren't in their Pokeballs.
Pikachu happily leaped onto Ash's shoulders, chirping excitedly, with Ash saying, "Looking great, buddy," while Silverstream climbed back onto her trainer's head, wagging its tail, while Lyra said, "And you look fighting fit, Silverstream," with her Fennekin chirping in agreement.
Then, Lyra decided to ask Nurse joy if she knew anything about Riolu, asking, "Um, Nurse Joy, you...wouldn't happen to know anything about that Riolu outside...do you"?
Nurse joy nodded, saying sadly, "I'm afraid that Riolu was abandoned by its trainer not too long ago."
Everyone gasped in shock, as Lyra grimaced, saying, "I knew it! Why did the trainer abandon Riolu"?!
Nurse joy answered, "For the reason, I don't know, but I do know this: ever since, Riolu has just been waiting here constantly, thinking that he will come back. I believe it may be going through a case of denial."
Ash, curious, asked, "Denial," while Clemont explained, "It means Riolu probably doesn't want to believe that his trainer is not coming back, and is making himself think that the trainer will return, even though it knows the truth."
Serena couldn't help but say, "Poor Riolu, having to go through this," while Bonnie saying, "It's so sad," while her Dedenne chirped sadly in agreement.
Ash himself felt angered, saying, "I still can't believe he would do this; he shouldn't have just abandoned his Pokemon like that"!
However Ash's anger was nowhere near how angry Lyra felt. Seeing Riolu sitting out there, acting like his trainer was gonna come back, but was simply in denial about it, it just upsetted her. no, it angered her. No, it infuriated her.
Silverstream could sense her trainer's anger and yipped in concern.
Lyra, seeing her partner looking at her, calmed down, saying, "It's ok, silverstream. I'll be ok."
Silverstream smiled, giving her trainer a gentle lick on the cheek to help her feel better, as Lyra then had an idea, saying, "I'm gonna go talk to Riolu."
Lyra walked outside and sat next to Riolu, who saw the human sitting next to it, but didn't think too much about it.
Silverstream gestured Lyra to talk, as Lyra nodded, saying to Riolu, "You know, when i was young, i would always sit like this on the couch. I'd wait by the window every day, waiting for...my mom to soon come through the door."
Riolu, interested, turn his head to listen to the story, curious about it.
Lyra continued, "I'd wait hours and hours and hours with Chesnaught and Dedenne, hoping to see my mom come home so we could be a real family again. Of course, i was very young, i...never really knew the truth. Then, when I found out about...my dad's divorce...it was hard for me to accept...she wasn't ever gonna come."
Riolu felt a bit bad for Lyra, as it scooted close to her, wanting to hear more of the story.
Lyra continued, "I...didn't even want to accept it at first. And often, i...kept waiting by the window, every day. I just...didn't wan to believe she would never come. I...just felt like if I just kept at it...maybe a miracle would come and...maybe she would've come. But...that was all...just a facade. In reality...I was just...heartbroken. I was sad, I was angry, i was confused, but most importantly, I was...scared."
Riolu gasped in realization, realizing that this trainer...felt the same way it did.
Lyra continued, commenting, "I was scared to accept i'd never meet my mom. And I was scared i'd never be happy again. I thought just remaining in denial about the divorce would help...but it didn't. It seemed like it did, but in reality...i was still sad. I didn't want to accept I was sad, I didn't wan to accept i was angry. i didn't want to accept...i felt scared. Because...I worried if i showed how i was actually feeling about it...feeling like...my mom just abandoned us and left us alone...that...i'd be seen as...unworthy...or weak."
Riolu whimpered, feeling bad for Lyra since it knew that those were the same exact feelings it was feeling.
Lyra then said, "but...I've grown over time since then and...I've learned to accept the divorce. It's not an easy thing but...it's something I've just grown to do. I didn't do it right away, of course, but...the love form my dad...and knowing, he was always findigna way to comfort me, even when he couldn't;t be there physically...it made things easier. Because...when you're with someone who actually cares about you...who loves you...then, it becomes a bit easier to handle...feelings like these. Because, it's ok to feel sad, it;s ok to feel angry, it;s ok to feel scared. Because...they're here for you. the real people...who really love you...and care about you so much...that they'll never want to leave your side."
Suddenly, Lyra felt something drape by her hip, and noticed Riolu, who had come closer to her, and was not only hugging her arm but...the human was surprised to see tears in Riolu's eyes.
The Emanation Pokemon sniffled and looked up at Lyra, letting her know...it was feeling sad about...the truth of...being abandoned.
Lyra smiled and picked up Riolu, letting it sob gently in her stomach, while Silverstream sat next to Riolu, trying to comfort it.
Lyra hugged Riolu softly, saying, "I'm gonna guess you were abandoned too, huh? But you felt worried about admitting it"?
Riolu sniffled and nodded, resuming back to crying softly in the trainer's stomach.
Lyra didn't say anything, but she just kept the fighting type close and hugged it, rubbing Riolu's back, like how Chesnaught would with its vines when she felt sad.
Riolu continued to cry for a few more minutes before it felt all of its tears had dried up, and it felt...strangely better.
Lyra, seeing that it looked better, asked, "How do you feel"?
Riolu gave it some thought and showed a small semi-smile while doing a so-so gesture within its left paw.
Lyra chuckled, saying, "Well, you don't have to feel totally happy right away, but with time, you'll feel better soon. For now, I'm just grateful i was able to be a shoulder, or stomach, for you to cry on. I'm always here if you need any help."
Riolu seemed to bow his head in thanks before suddenly, it felt in thought.
Lyra, seeing this,a sked, "You ok"?
Riolu then leaped down from the bench and walked forward, before facing Lyra, chirping something while patting a fist on his chest.
Lyra was a bit unsure of what riolu wanted, but then, when she saw Riolu do the "bring it on" gesture, she smiled, saying, "you want to battle again, huh"?
Riolu smiled in determination, nodding before getting into a fighting stance.
Lyra adjusted her cap, saying, "Ok, you got a deal! Silverstream, what do you say"?
Silverstream smiled and nodded, leaping from her trainer's lap and onto the ground, facing Riolu again.
Riolu took the first move this time, charging in with double team, as it and a swarm of copies came forward.
Lyra smiled, saying, "Silverstream, mow them down with flamethrower"!
The shiny Fennekin shot a stream of fire that made the copies disappear, but missed the real one, who used the smoke to shield itself and shot a vacuum wave at it, which silverstream quickly dodged.
Meanwhile, Ash and his friends came out of the Pokemon Center after hearing the sound of an explosion, with Ash saying, "Look, Lyra is battling Riolu"!
Bonnie and Dedenne cheered for Lyra, with Serena adding, "You got this, Lyra," while Clemont mentioned, "And Riolu seems to be in good fighting shape. Lyra's talk with it must've reignitied its spirit."
Lyra then shouted, "Alright, use iron tail," as Silverstream's tail became metallic, while she swung it at Riolu, who intercepted it with force palm, creating a stalemate. Lyra, seeing an opportunity, shouted, "Quick, use ember," as Silverstream sent a cloud of ember straight at Riolu.
Riolu shot a vacuum wave at the ground to make the ember disappear before it charged in with force palm again.
Silverstream backflipped to dodge it, with Lyra shouting, "Flamethrower again"!
Silverstream shot a stream of fire at Riolu, who grinned and intercepted with vacuum wave, making another stalemate.
Both sides didn't want to give up, as Riolu then pointed at Lyra, chattering something.
Lyra looked at riolu, who had determination in its eyes, and a huge smile on its face, making the human smile and ask, "Riolu, are you saying...you want to join us"?
Riolu nodded, grinning while giving Lyra a thumbs-up.
Lyra smiled and pulled out a Pokeball, saying, "Alright then, Pokeball, let's go," while tossing it up into the air.
Riolu yipped happily and jumped up, pressing the button in the middle as it got absorbed into the Pokeball, as the device descended into Lyra's hands. It shook three times before stars sparkled around it, signifying that Riolu was successfully caught.
Lyra smiled happily, saying while holding the Pokeball up high, "Alright, we made a brand new friend: Riolu," while Silverstream leaped up beside her trainer cheering alongside her.
Lyra petted Silverstream, saying, "Well done battling," as Silverstream yipped happily before returning to its spot on Lyra's head.
Ash approached her, saying, "Congratulations, Lyra," while Clemont mentioned, "You definitely made a great new friend."
Lyra smiled, saying while looking at the Pokeball with Riolu inside of it, "Riolu, I know you and I are gonna be great friends together. Let's train hard, and reach the top, my friend."
Ater receiving her starter, and meeting Ash and his friends, Lyra Yvonne has already taken the first step in her journey as a trainer, with a brand new friend in tow: Riolu. Now, with her Pokemon by her side, our protagonist's first gym battle is set to take place, as the journey continues!
