*Flashback*

The seventeen year old teen appeared out of nowhere. Billy Batson opened his eyes, he felt like he was taking a nap, even though he knew what really happen. He then looked around at his surroundings.

"Woah... That big punk of garbage." Billy muttered, couldn't believe that own idol killed him in cold blood, just for protesting and mentioning Superman's deceased wife, Lois Lane.

"Hey kid."

"What the? I-It can't be..." Billy thought. He turned around and couldn't believe hie eyes. "D-Dick Grayson?" He asked in pure shock.

"What's up, Billy?" Dick Grayson said.

"I-I'm okay, I guess... W-Where are we?"

"This is the Afterlife, kid." He explained to the young hero. "You went hard ground... Big time."

Billy chuckled, despite knowing what he meant. He was just overjoyed to see him,"I-It's so good to see you!" He said, hugging him. "Superman told me that Damian killed you by accident... What happen?"

"Well... " Dick Grayson started. "It was at Gotham City in the Arkham Asylum... Batman and I were protecting the most dangerous villains and psychotic killers from the World's Greatest Heroes, which was Superman, Wonder Woman, and my old teen titan partner, Cyborg... It didn't end well."

*Dick Grayson's Flashback*

The Regime, Robin, Nightwing, and Batman were fighting the inmates in Arkham Asylum. Before the whole mess started, Batman and Nightwing went to the asylum to stop Superman from sending the dangerous criminals to a much more secure facility, or worse, their deaths. However, Damian Wayne, also known as Robin at the time, ratted them out.

"Robin, what are you doing?" Nightwing asked in shock.

"Bringing criminals to justice. I'm standing with Superman. Look who you're standing with, Bane, Killer Croc, and whoever that is."

When Cyborg was sending Victor Zsasz and The Mad Hatter into a boom-tube portal, which led the both of them into a much more secure facility, Batman activated the virus, which shocked Cyborg. Nightwing, not wanting to see his friend in pain, stopped him.

"Alright, enough!"

That was when Harley Quinn, seeing the error of her ways and deciding to become a hero, let out the inmates. However, the inmates had their scores to settle with the Justice League.

"I recommend putting aside our differences."

"For now." Superman added, looking at Batman.

While fighting the inmates together, Robin was beating the crap out of The Riddler, who was on the ground. Nightwing didn't like what he was seeing.

"Hey, Robin doesn't punch people after they go fetal."

"You're not Robin, so shut up!" Damian angrily said, throwing at one of his kali sticks at Dick Grayson's head. While he would normally dodge them, or catch them with his hands, since he was distracted by the fight, he didn't have time to react.

After the fight, Batman saw what Damian did, accident or not. He picked up the dead body of Nightwing and carried him away, but Robin grabbed his father's cape.

"I didn't mean to. I'm… I'm…"

"I thought I could redeem you. I was wrong."

*End of Dick Grayson's Flashback*

"Wow..." Billy said in awe, couldn't believe what he just heard. "I-I'm sorry that happen to you." The teenager lowered his head in shame, realizing too late of what the Regime has done.

"Hey, it's not your fault." Grayson assured, putting his hand on his shoulder. "It's not Damian's fault either. It's Superman's. He's the cause of what happen."

Billy nodded in agreement. That was when he was checking out Dick Grayson's new outfit he was wearing... That's when he realized something.

"You were the Deadman?!" He asked.

"More like Deadwing." Grayson corrected him. "The old deadman, Boston Brand, gave me his powers while a certain friend brought me back as a ghost."

"Wow" Billy was still shocked and amazed. He realizing that it was Deadwing that possessed him the first time around. He was also the one who asked for his help once. However, he had a confused face. "A certain friend?"

"Come on. You're going to love this." Deadwing stated, going to the gates, with Billy Batson following him.

After a few minutes, they finally got to the main center of the Afterlife. Looking up, Billy saw the patron goddess, Rama Kushna herself.

"I-Is that-?"

"Yep, the same one who gave me these powers." Deadwing said. "Meet Rama Kushna."

The goddess looked at the teenager. "Welcome, Billy Batson."

"Rama. It's an honor." Billy said.

"This is not where you will rest. I, Rama Kushna, brought your soul here to ask for your help. The world's existence is balanced on a knife's edge." She said, showing Billy two orbs that appeared out of nowhere. The left side shows Superman fighting another Superman, shocking both Deadwing and Billy Batson. The right side shows that Regime found the Insurgency's hideout and fought the Insurgency members. This gave the teenager the chills. "On one side, a future. On the other, a void. Your soul, so recently departed from the mortal coil, may tip the scales. Though I fear, even this direct action may not be enough."

"How can I help?" Billy asked, looking down. "After everything I've done?"

"Kid, you didn't kill anyone in the Regime. Superman and his cronies did." Deadwing reminded him.

"Maybe, but I was still with them... I saved Clark three times from either being captured or from being killed. Yet, he repays me by killing me."

"True, but you're getting another chance of life to make up for everything, including Lex Luthor.

The teenage boy knew that they were right. He was actually the light of the Regime, well, he used to, anyway. Speaking of Lex, Billy once again looked down in shame when he heard that name. While it was Superman who killed the billionaire in cold blood, the teenager was partly the reason why he was dead.

Deadwing saw his reaction. "S-sorry, I didn't mea-"

"It's okay." Billy assured him. He then looked at the goddess. "How can I make things right?"

"First, you will be revived, but you will also be sent to an old friend."

She zapped Billy with her powers, making him disappear from the Afterlife.

"Good luck, kid." Deadwing said, "You're going to need it."

The Rock of Eternity

"Owww..." Billy groaned, "Well, at least I'm alive."

He got up off the floor and looked around his surroundings. This place looks familiar, but it didn't ring him any bells.

"What is this place? It feels familiar."

"Billy Batson..."

The teenager knew where that voice came from and knew who said that.

"The Wizard?"

Billy walked forward, kept on going until he saw his old friend.

"Hello Billy Batson." The wizard said, smiling at his successor. He can see that Billy was no longer a young boy, but a young teenager. "You've grown."

"Y-Yeah." The young teenager then looked down in shame. "I'm sorry..."

"Sorry? Sorry for what?"

"For joining Superman and his regime." He said. "You were right... I shouldn't have joined him. I first thought he was protecting us from harm, want what's best for us... I was wrong. Even Harley was telling me that, but I didn't listen. And I should have... After what Superman did to Green Arrow, Hercules, Martian Manhunter, the Green Lanterns, their home planet, Jason Bard, Hawkman, Batwoman..., And Lex Luthor... And it's my fault that he's dead."

"Batson, you may have joined the Regime, but unlike your former allies, your heart and actions are still pure." The Wizard said. "You knew there are lines that must not be crossed. That was why the wizard decided to let you keep those powers." He then smiled. "You may not have the power to bring them back, but you do have the power to make up for their deaths."

The teenager nodded in agreement. "Y-You're right. But what do I do now?"

"You must head to the Insurgency's hideout, tell Batman what happen, and maybe, he might go easy on you." The Wizard then slammed his staff on the ground as he holds it in front of Billy. "Put your hand on my staff."

Billy then chuckled a bit. "You still know that it sounds wrong, right?"

Despite being serious, the wizard indeed laughed, happy to see that Batson hasn't changed. "Yes, I know Billy. Now, do as I say."

"Got it." He places his hand on the staff as he felt the same energy as before.

"Say my name."

Billy nodded. "SHAZAM!"

The lightning bolt hits them, as the staff's powers transferred into him, reviving him fully and transforming him into Shazam once more.

"Now go go forth, Billy Batson! Become... Shazam once more!"

"I won't let you down!" Shazam said, before he disappeared, returning back to the world of the living.

The old wizard smiled, happy that his champion was alive and that he was on the right side once again. "I know you won't, Billy."
